I’M VERY HAPPY BECAUSE IT WAS MY FIRST TIME TO SUCCESSFULLY INSTALL A CUSTOM ROM ON MY DEVICE. Although I encountered several problems, I eventually found a way to solve them. Now, my dream rom is finally here!!! I was so anxious at first because I’ve tried installing roms before on my previous handsets (local brands), but I was never successful.
Earlier, while going through the process, I was too anxious that my hands were shaking. Literally. At the same time, I was so excited how it would turn out. So when I flashed the twrp without any problems, I then proceeded on installing the pixel experience rom.
On my first try, after I flashed the rom, it got stuck on the fastboot mode. So then, I went ahead and entered the twrp recovery for the second time, I flashed the rom again, and then it got stuck on the google logo. On my third try, it finally worked. When the google logo finally disappeared and the language setup settings appeared, I literally jumped.
So, that’s what happened and everything was so worth it. I have been planning on flashing this rom for months, and I never had the gut to do so until today. So to anyone out there who already had enough of Xiaomi’s buggy user interface, you should definitely do the same.
If there’s someone here who also wants to install pixel experience, just send me a direct message and I’ll try to guide you through the process. :)))
Can you give us a link on how to do it?
That this ROM’s gonna be a good ROM.
putting custom roms on a phone with mediatek on it is usually scary since most of them are unstable and can end up bricking your phone, AKA you can’t use it anymore
so, I would be very careful
It’s going to be a daily driver
He won
He saw
I liked it fine but changed to EU out of boredom and prefer it.
Got it! Thank you! Thought that it was a plug-in or some sort for Xiaomi
My first Xiaomi phone was Redmi Note 4 and it was great!
btw, redmi 9c is a mediatek device and it’s hightly likely that it will never get custom roms. just putting it out there.
Idk , it’s almost 2 years ago, I was trying to install the Global ROM on a Redmi 5A with China ROM and probably ran into some problems, causing it to be bricked. I also soft bricked my Redmi 5 by accidentally flashing Redmi Note 5 ROM lol.
How did this happen?
Bad
Well kernels are a piece of software which sorta manage the processes thats happening in the operating systems, from cpu frequency handling to memory management, a lot of stuff is handled by kernel. What we do is, take the mainstream linux kernel from an open source repo, use some patches and drivers and tweak the kernel the way we want to. E.g. i am testing a kernel which uses a modified frequency table and its giving me roughly 40% more battery i used to get on miui, with 50% more smoothness etc(According to accurate benchmarks) and 30x better task handling
Im a kernel dev and i flash stuff like 20-30 times a day (mostly kernels) and i have never stayed on a rom for more than 2 days. My emmc is begging me for a relief
Yes you are right. But not every devices is hardware enforced now. It will come sooner or later. Incase of my phone basic checking is done right now.
Hi there fellow Evolution X user 🙂
You will get to a point where even if you brick the phone and it won’t even turn on. You’ll calmly say “oh.. well, time to start over”.
I was very anxious at my first time too, that was back in 2012.
Ok cool, yeah yeah, but is that good or bad?
And then at one point of time you will get tired of all the flashing and go back to using the phone with the stock os

Some roms like pixel experience, Resurrection remix passes for now. but lineage doesn’t pass without magisk. Android 11 roms won’t pass anytime. Android 10 roms are passing safetynet because Xiaomi has official android 10 rom fingerprint which passes google certification.
Personally I like miui, maybe because I don’t have any previous experience with Android phones. But in 4 years or so when they’ll probably stop rolling out updates for my phone, I’ll consider using a custom rom.
That’s not how. Custom rom with patched kernel and used official fingerprint pass safetynet, else it will fail. Custom roms like official lineage doesn’t allow these patching and fails right away and need magisk to pass.
Does it pass safetynet without magisk?
Same, I had a Redmi 5 2 years ago and the first ROM i installed was PE. Made the phone smooth af and quite fast to use. Tried other custom ROMS but PE was the best to use.
Haven’t really flashed another custom ROM since I’m using Mi 9 now with the stock MIUI 12 ROM since there’s no lag on a higher end device. But the PE really saved my 2GB RAM Redmi 5 from the lag on MIUI 10 and was overall nice to use.
That’s how I hard bricked my old Redmi 5A too, after successfully installing Pixel experience on my Redmi 5 lol
There is an argument that stock MIUI is better than custom ROMs because of
* Camera – sometimes it’s difficult to find a working GCam for your phone model;
* Mi Account/Mi Cloud integration – if you use these services, MIUI is best for you;
* MIUI features – e.g. Second Space, Audio enhancement on Mi branded earphones, etc.
So long bootloader is unlock and u keep a fastboot image from the official rom. You will be fine. If things breaks, just fastboot and wipe everything back to the official ROM.
Alright, thanks for the info.
PE+ is great on miatoll devices. I have a 9S (a very close relative) and I was able to use it without any problems. [https://youtu.be/BYOIM6eoTjI](https://youtu.be/BYOIM6eoTjI)
The bootloader unlock and flashing process might be daunting though. If it’s going to be a daily driver, I suggest you stick with stock. It would be painful not having a phone to use because you bricked it during the flashing process.
I prefer PE, more specifically the Plus variant.
For older phones that might struggle with lower RAM and slower processors, I prefer Lineage.
Been using [Xiaomi.EU](https://Xiaomi.EU) for years (since Mi 4/5), and yes, during a MIUI version or Android version shift a lot of things can be broken on the developer/weekly version. I don’t think it’s usually the fault of Xiaomi.EU devs as it might be an issue with the beta CN version they are translating. These devs do respond promptly on their forums in my experience.
Most ROMs are either Lineage or AOSP based and they don’t have these features natively AFAIK, so the answer to your three questions is probably a no.
I can relate but I’m using Paranoid Android, a few bugs here and there but its smooth faf and its Worth the Risk!
Is it worth the effort? I don’t particularly mind miui however if a custom rom helps improve speed and fluidity I would be interested in checking them out.
Everything is great on PE+ with mi9T. Only complain is the in display fingerprint unlock. It’s inaccurate to say the least. Hit and miss to unlock the phone. Still looking around for workaround.
I always do multitasking, and the apps keeps restarting so I have to downgrade it. You can go to Settings > System > Developer Option > Memory or Developer Option > Running Services to check your RAM
I have the same phone on PE+ but I have no ram problems. I don’t even know how much left I have at any time. Where did you check?
And that is what we call “distro hopping”.
Yes it does.
Lol mate I requested root access and flashed to evolution X the day I bought my Xiaomi 9t Pro. Custom ROMs are always better than the spyware and adware laden commerical stuff.
Is everything working on your new rom?
I saw
He came
I’ve been running PE since i unlocked my phone right after i got it and i couldn’t be any happier with it. It’s like a budget pixel phone done right
Nope, it just requires an unlocked bootloader, which is done with the official Xiaomi unlock tool.
The only time you *may* need root before you can load a custom recovery is if the manufacturer doesn’t offer an official unlock – as you may need root to crack the unlock first – but even then it is rare.
Is Pixel Experience better than LineageOS?
I had it on my note 7 pro..worked like a charm for months. I flashed miui again just to see what miui 12 brings in. Sadly they stopped updating note 7 pro..m gonna try flashing paranoid rom next when it comes out for my device.
wouldn’t charge, just power cycled. I don’t know when the charge “command” is sent, but it would turn on when plugged in.
Wait you don’t have to for custom ROMs? I thought a custom recovery image required a root?
I had a note 4 on liberate lineageOS about 2 years ago and even then it was struggling already. You’re a trooper dude.
I also want to install Pixel Experience on my future note 9 pro but I don’t have trust in me and I am afraid to brick the phone…
Thaaanks.
Can you possibly give feedback, looking for a few solutions:
– do these roms offer Share > copy to clipboard functionality (removed in Android 10)?
– do they have built in camera app or gallery that allows for trimming of video files?
– do they have built in audio recorder that similarly allows trimming of audio file?
Hey, did they bring back Share > copy to clipboard?! 😄
Also does the built camera app, or audio recorder, allow for trimming of the video or audio file? If you know…
Running evolution x and I’m really enjoying it.
I’ve been watching videos and reading posts (like this one) about Pixel Experience, and since MIUI 11 is starting to lag and glitch in my Note 7, I think I’ll bite the bullet and try to install this ROM.
The only thing that troubles me (apart from the bootloader unlocking process) is that I use a banking app and I don’t know if this ROM will play nice with it. Does anyone know if the ROM passes the security checks such as SafetyNet?
EDIT: Thanks for the replies 🙂 I will look up how to install the ROM without worrying too much about SafetyNet
Any idea what happened? Did it just not read the battery properly again?
*cries in Poco F2 Pro*
They copy code from other roms
Is that good or bad?
However some apps DO anyway understand you are using a different rom and won’t start in my personal experience.
People who’ve tried Pixel Experience and Lineage, which do you prefer?
you’re fine if you’re fine.
Xiaomi.eu isn’t a example of stability and fluidity. It’s sometimes really laggy and it completely breaks the propose of muiu of being as aesthetic as the iOS
Yes, you will. But it’s fairly easy to relock it
I did and I had to get a new battery to fix it.
Never let the battery go to zero. 🙂 PE is great though. I don’t feel like I’m having all my data stolen by the Chinese.
No bugs is overestimated quite a bit. Just because you don’t have bugs doesn’t mean other don’t encounter bugs. I’m actually sick of the bugs of xiaomi.eu and am searching for a replacement ROM.
do you have any screenshots of the ads you see? I run Xiaomi.eu and haven’t seen an ad. I have a Mi Band 5 watch and sometimes, in their own Mi Fit app, there is an ad sometimes – but I haven’t seen any others
Ah right I’ve always rooted before. Didn’t realise you didn’t have to for custom roms
Custom ROMs don’t need root, so all banking apps work fine.
The only caveat is if you were to install a pre-rooted custom ROM, but most are not rooted.
PE is one of the ROM that keep my phone alive, I’m using Redmi Note 4 Snapdragon 3/32. The stock miui already become laggy, most app can’t keep in the background, switching app will make the app closed. PE much snappier than MIUI plus it’s running Android 10 (MIUI only get Android 7). But my phone can’t keep it up on PE Android 10 (only have 23 MB of free RAM) so I switched to Lineage OS Android 9. It didn’t have many feature like PE but get a lot of free RAM to work with. So if you want cheap flagship phone but didn’t want to have a lot of bloatware, go with poco and flash custom ROM. Profit.
Running BlissRom on RN8 because Xiaomi can’t be arsed to push MIUI 12/ Android 10 to it.
Absolutely amazing. PExp is great as well, I’ve had it on my old phone when the author supported the Moto G5 Plus officially.
But if i will unlock bootloader I will lose the warranty of my device.
I would love another rom on my phone, I’m not a massive fan of this miui 11 so far (note 9s… Might get 12 eventually).
But if I root my phone so many apps stop working like internet banking etc.
EvoX is an absolute kangfest, dev just adds features from other roms non-stop and clutter the rom
I have a Poco F1 and was interested in trying flashing custom ROMs. Could anyone point me to a reliable guide?
weekly update is bêta version. you’r just being lucky.
Can you link it please? I have a MI 10 Pro
and a new custom ROM fanatic 🙂
using evolutionX btw
I came
Yeah, that was a surprise for me too. I wanted a stable 10 version, turned out buggy 11, made out from a weekly CN, even though their device table showed 10.
Edit: not blaming the devs actually, with that much devices supported that would slip in eventually.
Am using evolution x.. oh my god.. so satisfying
Pixel experience have limited customization..
And thats how I hard bricked old Meizu hihihi
Stable switched to android 11? First time hearing that
Stable got borked recently too, with the premature switch to android 11. System was laggy, logcat was filled with endless errors, launcher behaved stragely… Strange decision from the devs.
xiaomi.eu was my goto before, but debloated stock is currently better. Sad that I had to test it on myself.
He’s talking about replacing miui with pixel experience. It’s a different operating system. It’s somewhat complicated and you can easily brick your phone if you don’t do it right.
2 GB of memory and 32 GB storage.
If you like no major android updates after a while and ads built in the OS, sure it’s better.
What is all of this? Can someone explain, thank you! Not a phone guy. 1 month user, Redmi 9C 2GBram 32GB
Why o why is it just me who thinks and feels that ‘factory’ ROM is better than Al these ‘aftermarket’ ones?
I use weeklies from the beginning on Mi Note 10 and no problems at all
I’m flashing since Xperia X8 and Android 1.6(2.3.7 after flash) and with all of my phones was worth it!
Now I’m glad to have RN7 with RR on it.
That’s how I do it as well. I actually like stock Android more but the fingerprint sensor on those roms are always worse than xiaomi.eu.
It is still MiUi and therefore turbo aids
Maybe OP just prefers stock Android instead of MIUI. That’s the case for me.
Once you get the hang of it you’ll be flashing multiple ROMs in a day 😂
I use stable version, so far so good
there are some bugs on the weekly update version . i have it on my RN7. sometimes i lose all my contacts after i activate ultra battery saver i think. and another one is the play store, i was unable to install apps until few days.
I personally use HavocOS, it’s less buggy than pixel experience on my phone. I can’t go back to the ad cluttered Miui.
PE+ was also my first custom ROM and this was exactly how I felt. Try some other ROMS as well as custom kernels. Recommending Evolution X ROM and Optimus Drunk kernel
You should use Orangefox recovery instead of TWRP. You will run into less problems
You could have flashed xiaomi.eu…Stable version, no ads, no bugs, weekly or monthly updates, security updates…etc
What phone you flash it on ?
