Fast charging is really cool and convenient, but I would recommend also getting a slow charger for charging overnight or something like that

in general, I also thought so, but on the other hand, the modern capacity of batteries is pretty good. If you dont drain the battery to the end of day and put the phone on charge in the morning when you woke up, for example, at least while you are doing a routine,, it charges up to 70-80% without problems and for my personal usage this is quite enough

“snobby” cause I don’t consider Quora answers worthwhile scientific studies? Okay bud…

I’ve googled this before and haven’t seen anything that suggests it’s true other than people saying things on forums,, hence the question.

I read …I don’t remember well where.. that fast charging DOES degrade the battery, however the degradation is not extraordinary.

Advantages outweighs disadvantages, and degradation will come (a little bit faster) than a normal battery

Let’s say that degradation will come in (just an example, not actual numbers) 3 years in a normal battery whereas a fast charging one will come in 2.8 yrs . Again… These are not real numbers, but is somewhere around of what I remember the article said.

I’ve been fast charging for years and never had any battery problems. Just keep your phone cool and not under the pillow or something while charging.

It also increases the risk of battery blowing up sooner.

I recommend installing a battery temp monitor app and make sure it is below 35c as the high temperature damages the battery more.

My note 9 bloated despite using a slow charger as i did not realize the phone was running real hot (40c) when playing gacha game for hours a day.

From what i know only latest phones has the option to disable fast charging (i remember really old phones had this when fast charge was new but not newer phones). So unless you have the latest phone the only way to disable fast charge is get a slow charger/usb cable.

My cheap phone does that. Goes from 50% to 100 in 10 minutes. But the battery is wonky it drops to 5% and goes back to 30 on its own.

Ikr my previous Poco FW had defective charging port, so I had to use it along with the power bank literally all the time. From there, to near full charge under 20 minutes is mind blowing.

Mostly I agree with you but I am not sure that it kills batteries.

Fast charger charges the battery with 12V instead of classic 5V so the phone will drain the battery faster after fast charge.

As you said, use fast charger just in unnecessary situations

Why IPhones do not have this ridiculous fast charging speeds? Because Apple already knows it will have a bad impact over the battery.

This is correct and never mentioned enough. If you only keep your phone for a year or two (and don’t care about the experience, that the user after you has, after you’ve sold it on eBay), just go ahead.

I ALWAYS charge via 5W USB, although my phone can do 65W, just keeping it connected to PC while I work anyway.

Because apple are usually years behind android? They are still using the notch from 2017. They’re hardly the most innovative company these days.

Not charging at it reached 54C ? There must be some background app running at full speed to reach this kind of temp, no way it would go this high if it was idle

Don’t even charge overnight, if it charges by 1% every few seconds then just plug it in in the morning when you wake up then when you’re ready to leave it should be almost full.

    It is still fast charging.

Although it is an immature technology, the concept is still the same (most manufacturers either boost the amperage or vary the voltage in order to increase the amount of potential energy). The only difference are marketing name they give to each of their fast charging technology.

OnePlus dash charge, Motorola’s rapid charge, qualcomm’s quick charge, Oppo’s flash charge, and Samsung’s fast charge.

Yes, it is absolutely safe to charge a device with a charger which has more or lower current rating than needed. Since the voltage is held constant (here at 5V), so the only factor that determines current draw is the load (i.e resistance) the device connected to the charger.

Yes, and iPhone 13 has fast charging that Android phones had 3 years ago – 20W. Every charging on more than 5V is fast charging.

The paper is about car batteries that have entire arrays of cells and charge at much higher temperatures and even so the paper just cautions, not flat out says it’s damaging.

Of course fast charging, especially the unregulated old way, has the potential to damage the battery but that’s why the Xiaomi comes with a dedicated charger and (so far) hasn’t accepted fast charge from other chargers I tried.

Upon quick research, fast charging already available in iPhone 8. However, your point still stands since fast charging on qualcomm chip was implemented in 2013-2014. I concede that you are correct with this. Hope OP can accept this fact too.

Every charging more than 5v is fast charging (I agree with this). This is one of the main reason why battery degrades faster with fast charging.

Yes, I do realize Xiaomi comes with a dedicated charger but I think this is most likely due to 2 phase system they use with fast charging high-end phones. Most mid-end phones with fast charging still can use other chargers (not saying mid-end don’t have 2-phase system).

Also, smartphone battery nowadays comes in 2 or 3 separate batteries in one package. This means the phone can charge faster (charging 3 batteries at once) without increasing temperature.

Still, all research paper comes with the conclusion to not go above 70-80% charging capacity to ensure long lasting battery.

That paper and its sources are completely outdated. 20 years old. 1000mah – cute.

It also uses graphs that exaggerate cell degradation, making 10% loss look like 100%. That’s bad science, why would they do that?? To sum up, even with this ancient charge tech you would lose just 10% capacity over 2 years.

my xiaomi note 10 pro can charge around fifteen percent every three minutes, meaning its only around 25 minutes until its full from dead. i dont even use the super fast charger included in the box, because the plug doesnt work in australia, but the 22.5 watt is still so fast.

It isnt outdated smh, it uses the same battery technology and it doesnt matter if the capacity is different. They also tested it on phones from 4-5 years ago and got the same results.

Its common knowledge at this point that lithium batteries dont like extremes, be it full charge / discharge or extreme temps.

    https://batteryuniversity.com/article/bu-808-how-to-prolong-lithium-based-batteries

Here they didnt even include one of the most popular ways people charge – to 100% and let it drop below 10%. You can only imagine how lower that would be on the graph, when 100-25% had worst results.

The results are not night and day difference, but its still a useful and easy thing to implement to prolong the battery life over time.

Dude, Teslas charge fully 6 to 9 hours, not 30 minutes!

Lithium ion and Li-Po are almost the same thing, Li-Po has less chance to ignite and blow up and has much faster discharge rate.

Graphene based batteries are not used by anyone yet. What you mean is lithium ion batteries mixed with a graphene layer to enhance some of its properties, and even that isnt mainstream yet.

That is a Tesla supercharger station speed, not your average home, third party or Tesla charger. So yes it can charge up to that speed, but with a caveat.

That’s dosent matters you will usually do it at these chargers anyway but what i am trying to say you can fast charging a fck Tesla which is a car build to last you rly think a phone super charger is that big of a deal.Yes over 60w is something new for 1 2 years but is a thing and is gonna be a standard .You gotta chill bro xiaomi tested these chargers. I will not contest there are any harm to the battery because i have my phone new i can say anything but if i am gonna have 1 day of full charge( right now i get 3even a bit more) after 2 years of use only this charger i am fine with that because i can charger it in 15 min and get another day for 1 year I hope.Time will tell how much harm i am gonna get but for now i trust what Xiaomi did with my 11t

    > Its common knowledge at this point that lithium batteries dont like extremes, be it full charge / discharge or extreme temps.

But that’s exactly the point. Modern fast charging avoids that. There’s a whole bunch of techniques they ignore, no phone uses brute force charging any more. Well maybe some cheap ones. I don’t even want to praise Xiaomi, they cut corners all right but fact is that my phone battery does not degrade noticably.

Lol true, but them not mentioning it on product page/specification page for eg. “Upto 120W” or “Variable Charging Rate” is kinda sussy. The owner commented that he went from 30 to 98 in around 14 minutes, whereas it takes me roughly 16-18 minutes with my 65W Nord 2 charging. So the 120W charging should’ve been much faster. Buyers should know the product they are buying.

I have watched battery test with this phone before i bought it and it always got around 8 hours of videos, recording, games etc. Tbh i have no way of draining this phone in 4-5 hours with my usage. Even if i watched youtube on maximum brightness and 120hz i would still easily have 7+ hours screen on time

Im not talking about fast charging. As far as I know there are no papers about that degrading battery much, if at all, but one thing is certain; the heat produced by fast charging cant be good for battery, but to what extent, we dont know for sure.

I was talking about charging capacity and faster wearing out of the battery when its always fully charged.

Where did you read that because we only got for some months these phones.Xiaomi said 80% battery life after 2 years not 1 wich is pretty standard stuff.Enjoy you phone mate without thinking about these stuff and even if it gonna die in 2 years is a phone so you change it and get one with less charger speed. But i pretty much trust xiaomi that this 120w speed is safe the 12series is getting this speed as well they wouldn’t fuck it twice for sure

No clue but there was no way i was gona start using my bank card after 3 years of google pay so i made sure that the eu rom supported it and google pay works for me. It is 100% compatible with everything i want my phone to do even if its chinese so i wont be shy to buy my phones from china in the future. Seeing that this phone + the unlocked bootloader was only 640€ totally new the price was insane aswell
