I’ve actually upgraded from my Galaxy Note 9 to one of those Mi 9 phones for £300. I’m amazed. Best phone I’ve ever had…and I love this MIUI thing…really don’t understand the hate. It’s so silky smooth and actually looks and feels way better than stock Android. I’m a fan
I’ve just ordered a 9t pro, (first android phone away from apple) any help or posts on here explaining the MIUI 10 / 11 from the stock android? And if it’s worth changing?
Not really. No warning. Just wanted to know if the experience is worth the while phone + watch.
You don’t have to download firmware and vendor separately btw 😉
Still, I love a completely updated, clean, bloat free, with better ram management and battery without tracking, and a nicer experience on the whole. There’s a reason people love OnePlus and pixel. Also, I can run Android 10 spin a Redmi Note 3 and it runs flawlessly
I still prefer having less apps and app drawer than everything on home. There are some really stupid apps like Mi pay which break OS if you try to remove them.
You can disable both of these. People just need to be a little less lazy.
I have mi 9t pro and i can’t understand whats the case with ads or notifications? No ads and every notification is heard. Only issue is that most apps don’t show up on AOD.
While on end notifications will still make a sound 🙁
mi music is bloatware?
I had no idea, I’ve been using it for ages with no problems
well, many would agree you were being scammed
Ditto. Pixel ROM/Experience is way better than stock MIUI. My phone was almost useless with MIUI, getting almost 0 notifications.
I too flash if there was lineage available for me. Lineage was perfect for me on every phone. It has some customisation that are needed and simple. Unfortunately the available roms for rn7 right now has some annoying bugs and doesn’t feel it’s going in the right direction. Many roms are being dropped and devs fighting each other. I am still waiting for something good like lineage. Luckily miui is not a problem for me until that. It is good minus the ads and tracking.
Exactly the same! 9T Pro. 8/256. Maximum satisfaction 😎
Idk much about it now because my first xiaomi phone is a redmi note 3 at that time miui is a bit aggressive in terms of ram management. Now that phones are starting to come with 3 or 4gb of ram out of the box it became less of an issue.
Nah it’s better now that I have pixel experience Android 10. It’s clean no bloatware 😀
It’s only available in China rom for now. No due date yet for global rom.
That makes sense. But for others like me, the notch is not even visible with an OLED display. I barely ever notice it’s there. Granted, I’m almost never using the selfie camera, so the notch is not needed for me, but otherwise still wouldn’t use that extra screen real estate.
Not at all. Only about bashing other os which they never have used. Have seen a lot of people, a lot of people who simply bash anything other than stock android. People bashing after using it makes sense.
And another thing is i don’t know why so many people nitpick each sentence typed here. What i say doesn’t refer to 100% of the android purists, there are people who like skins, but prefer stock android more. People always nitpick each sentence without using common sense. Everyone doesn’t speak good English too. I am not a native english speaker and as a result it will sometimes cause misunderstanding due to what is written.
You can probably change region and won’t see any ads. Not seeing any ads here in Lithuania. All is great except for not having Face ID working.
What do you mean on DND? I’m not getting notifications for most apps intermittently in normal mode either, ha.
Other than other reasons listed in this thread, for me personally there are two reasons to hate MIUI: lack of pill/horrible full screen gestures and problems with notifications (which is due to aggressive battery saving). I’ve mostly disabled battery saving and I still sometimes spend days without notifications from apps like GMail, Messenger, Instagram. A year before most of the problems I had were with not receiving notifications at all. Now it’s very unpredictable – sometimes I get them, sometimes I don’t. It’s definitely a problem with MIUI, not hardware – installed Pixel ROM and never missed a notification. The only reason I’m on MIUI is I couldn’t get some apps like Swedbank, Google Pay work on a phone with unlocked bootloader (somehow it detects that and stops working even without rooting it).
MiUI fixes some things of Android. Not all, but some. Together with Squarehome / Launcher 10 it gets close to be usable.
I like it too! Upgraded from an honor 8 lite to a mi 9T, only thing I’m a little dissatisfied with is that it haven’t got the Android 10 update yet.. Downloaded MIUI 11, but it’s sadly still running on Android 9. Well we’ll, hopefully it comes within a few months!
Lol 9h SOT is trash. I get like 11-12 on Mi 9T Pro. Full debloat and optimised. No root.
Enjoy!
> and I love this MIUI thing…really don’t understand the hate
Same, i’ve been using many phones and i love MIUI so much, even when i had SD660 it worked perfectly.
I actually have 2 new Mi Band 4 but I haven’t had the time to set them up and try them. Why do you ask? Any warning?
Will you pair your phone with a Mi Band anytime soon?
Personally hate miui because of the performance ,take the same Xiaomi device one with miui and the other with a decent stock Android rom, the custom rom one wins the speedtest eachtime
i dont get the point too, well everybody on /r/xiaomi spamming poco launcher here and there, but you can use literally every launcher and poco isnt even the best one. One of my friends asked me if those huawei watch will work with xiaomi and im just starring wtf bro? we are not apple.
My big issues are the bugs, the killing of background processes, the camera app.
MIUI 10 was good, 11 is just awful. The design is terrible.
Naah just that poco launcher is also by Xiaomi….so it works like charm with MIUI. Thats it. You feel close to the MIUI experience using poco.
That is true, but it’s really easy to stop as well by just using an adblocker or DNS filter, and many people don’t care really. Plus debloating is much, much easier than flashing a ROM is and a lot harder to mess up, as well as you don’t lose any data. Much easier for someone to download Java and the debloat tool than it is to unlock their bootloader, download SDK Tools, download a compatible firmware and vendor, a ROM, flash TWRP and the ROM and potentially stuff like GApps or Magisk which are needed in some ROMs.
Also those permissions make complete sense, you can scan a QR code to connect to WiFi or for a link to a web page, so or course it needs to be able to connect to the internet, just restrict any background data access if you’re that worried. As for personal information, it’s likely to be your shopping/spending habits if you use it for scanning those, which is fairly normal and something pretty much every company does if you use the internet.
Also, notifications are still awful. What do I mean? Why do they disappear from the lockscreen once I lock my phone again??
Mi 9t pro doesnt have wireless charge and mi9 has it. Mi 9t pro isnt the upgrade to mi 9. Its bassicaly the same phone with a different buyer in mind.
What was wrong with the note 9 to upgrade?
>Xiaomi makes a profit with the **data collection** and ads in MIUI, as their phones are dirt cheap.
First of all I am not a fan of any brand. I just purchase bang for buck devices available at the time i buy a phone. Afaik every brand out there collects data. Everyone including samsung, apples, moto, oppo etc. Xiaomi uses that data for targetted advertising purposes similar to google and other companies. They don’t sell data. If they were they wouldn’t be on many countries atleast not in Europe. I am against the advertisements on ui. But data tracking is always there in all phones. It is just a matter of who spies on you. Yeah you are right the only way to get rid of tracking is custom roms for any device out there. Only google will have the data unless microg is used. Now i have debloated the phone and especially those apps like analytics, miui daemon, msa etc and many other shits.
All my previous devices were rooted and running custom roms. But i don’t get that stability with roms nowadays atleast for my note 7. Everything has some annoying bugs.
You ARE getting scammed from Apple. At least price wise. Even more so from there PC’s and notebooks
Ok. Fine. Android purists are those who prefer stock android over anything. Can see those guys bashing custom skins.
While i was talking about miui in the comments, enthusiast community was referred to stock android not the tech enthusiasts…
While I agree, MIUI looks great, remember Xiaomi makes a profit with the data collection and ads in MIUI, as their phones are dirt cheap. Some regions may not see ads, but they sure have a lot of personal data collection! This not only voids your privacy, but also slows down the phone a bit with all the bloat and affects battery life. Sure, you can debloat MIUI but if you’re going through that much effort, it’s best to stick with stock Android 🙂
For example, I saw this today!

My Mi 9T will not maintain a full Bluetooth connection to my Wear OS watch. As far as I can tell this is a result of aggressive power management in MIUI. I also find it very frustrating that Xiaomi choose to disable standard Bluetooth Smart Unlock with all but their own devices. Otherwise, MIUI is fine.
While I agree, MIUI _feels_ good (I love the notification bar!), Xiaomi makes a profit with the data collection and ads in MIUI. Some regions may not see ads, but they sure have a lot of personal data collection!

Or download poco launcher from play store.
I didn’t either because 10 was great.. especially amazing about the UI is the recent apps layout.. but 11 is step down.. ugly big ass rounded icons.. they were perfect before… Annoying notification sounds.. sound like chirping to me.. sure you can probably change it but the defaults were amazing before
>People see me with it and think it’s a Pixel phone
I had the exact same experience with my RN7P running PE
I have been using Xiaomi since 2014. I wouldnt change it for other phone
me too, i came from a huawei p8 lite…. what a difference
I really want to know how do you get those results in the 9t pro. Because if I use my 9t pro the same as you do I’d come home with maybe 10%. And I’ve seen many people on the internet that claimed to get 9 hours Screen On Time at 15% battery. And I didn’t even upgraded to miui11 because of the battery issues that I’ve seen is coming with it. I can say I expected more from a 4000mAh battery but I was a little bit dissapointed, even though I get about 5-6 hours Screen On Time at 13% battery.
Miui is fine when you debloat and get rid of any ads.
I’m otherwise very happy with MIUI. The additional functionalities (integrated scren/voice recorder, IR blaster, dual apps, scanner, calculator…) are very helpful.
As a “hater” of the ecosystem I have to admit that it is well developed and very useful but it lacks the customization options of stock Android. It’d be great if Xiaomi lifted some restrictions for users like myself.
I just want to know whether new phones have it. Mi9 have it. My note 7 have call recorder. But some phones launched recently came with google dialer and messages which didn’t have call recording. Google afaik made it mandatory to use google messages and dialer for new phones that needs certified. One of the user said they have it on google dialer. Pretty confused. My friend needs call recording but doesn’t like to root.
>Occasional hiccup or lag, but nothing too bothersome.
These won’t happen at all on a rom like Pixel Experience or LineageOS
> My point is that if you’re online posting on Reddit, you’re most likely already sending your data to someone. Whether that’s Apple, Microsoft, whatever.
and my point is, why send it to even more then you need to.
> By the way, there’s plenty of proof that the USA/UK government is corrupt. Read up a bit on it. Plenty of legitimate sources too
would like to see some of these 🙂
> Where’s the evidence that Chinese phones are spying on us?
I do not have any proof that I can show you right now, just Install Wireshark and trace your phones send data (thats what I did when I got my Mi 9 SE new). It will show a shit ton of data send to Xiaomi servers. I might be able to get you some screenshots later today as a friend of mine has a Mi9t Pro that he has to wait a few days mor to unlock the bootloader of.
My thoughts exactly. I loved the Mi 5 and I love the Mi 9. Best smartphone experience I’ve ever had and I’ve tried many before I finally switched to Xiaomi.
Coming from Mi 5, 9 months later I still feel like the Mi 9 is a brick. So big and heavy. The Mi 5 is 50 grams lighter.
My brother’s mi9 has call recorder option in stock call app. And root privileges doesn’t broke any proprietary applications forever, like knox on Samsung.
iPhones are alright. Very nice look and feel but I am not a fan of the OS and I hate the company. Also – pricing, but that goes for most major brands when compared to Xiaomi.
they can hardly do anything, so what? I can just drive to a city 100 km away and tell them all my card PIN? I mean they can’t do anything with it when I am back home. Would you do that? Also I do worry about Google/FB as well and do not use there services anymore but as mentioned in another comment for many people thats not an alternative for many people so I gave up on trying to get people stop using them.
I’ve been using MIUI since before they had the ads. It was still getting the same amount of hate. Also, the “bloatware” is pretty standard. You get similar apps with most manufacturers.
I think you should worry more about Google/Facebook etc. than China if you’re in the West (Europe, US). China can hardly do anything with the data to harm you.
Loving my rooted 9T pro with latest MIUI.EU ROM
I have RN7 (4/64) – it feels smooth even without flagship soc. Occasional hiccup or lag, but nothing too bothersome. Still a great performance considering the price.
> Why don’t you stop using Google, Facebook and Microsoft to name a few?
I do not use them. Big suprise what? I just didn’t mention it because for many people not using them is not an alternative. Also they provide a service while the xiaomi spyware does nothing but spy.
also there is a difrence between an imorale (maybe corrupt but there is no proof) gov. and a dictatorship that is proven to to send thousands of people in concentration camps for there belives. Thats is censoring there citizens, that does not take a step to punish police officers who kill young people, who protest for democracy.
People hate it here coz of ads and unnecessary forced scanning of apps you download from playstore while showing ads.
ich hate users like you “oh I already send it everyone one more wont be bad”. I hate every single one of these but you at least have a way of stoping one so why not at least stop that one?
Me too, I don’t understand the hate, I love it how simple and easy to use MIUI is and a great smartphone as well.
I’ve just gotten the Chinese version of the K20 and there’s no ads either (MIUI 11)
Interesting to see these “bought Xiaomi And WOW…” reactions quite often 🙂 maybe more and more people finally decide to buy phone based on what it offers rather than by it’s brand.
Good times 🙂
>It’s so silky smooth and actually looks and feels way better than stock Android. I’m a fan.
The problem is that you need a flagship soc for it to be silky smooth. Speed tests have shown that MIUI is slower than stock Android.
Well, notifications are still messed up in do not disturb on MIUI 11 in my Mi Mix 3, whereas on MIUI 10 it worked perfectly 🙁
Thanks man! I’ve never used gestures and don’t really like Stock Android so nothing to complain about MIUI wo either. xD
Enthusiast community simply hates anything other than stock. Stock is pretty barebone. Everyone needs an additional app and from pie onwards call recording doesn’t work without root. Can’t take long screenshots, no screen recording etc. It is just missing a lot.
Edited: Enthusiast Community = stock android enthusiasts, not tech enthusiasts.
Please do not use stock MIUI, not for the GUIs sake but for the sake of you personal data. Stock Xiaomi firmware phones everything you do home to china.
People hate mi ui because youtube retard reviewers told them so
I was a fan of Android AOSP because of it’s lightweight nature compared to other UIs (Back then in 2014-17), but I fell in love with MIUI, it doesn’t lag like One UI (Galaxy S7) and imo looks better than anything I tested.
Their userbase is rich ass teenagers and Americans who voted for trump
*unpopular opinion incoming*
Switching from a note 9 to a Mi 9 is barely and upgrade. I say you downgraded.
For some reason I don’t get any ads anywhere on my Mi 9T (MIUI 10.3.12), it’s the global version.
Yeah, MIUI is one of the best OEM skins
For me, I don’t really care about any of the better features there. Wireless charging, meh no use for it, G glass 6 – is there really any difference?, IR blaster – have rn, don’t use it often, so meh. The fact that it has a worse battery, no headphone jack and also a notch is just a big no from me. But hey, to each their own and I hope you enjoy using your phone
Couldn’t agree more.
Fuck stock android, miui all the way.
MIUI for phones like redmi 4 and around that range was not that great, it felt too cardboxy and not very smooth, sth like a 2017 funtouch. Now MIUI is actually great. It’s smooth and flowly, it does the job like Oxygen OS and I love it. I am using MI 9T PRO or REDMI K20 PRO in some countries and I fucking love it.
That turns off personalized ads, but you get the same amount of them
I think it might only be on certain roms. I think that the Chinese ROM got it first
I already updated to 11,but under Home Screen there isn’t a second home screen button
You should try Poco Launcher with Pixel Pie Icon pack. Set Launcher layout to 5\*6 with XS size and background transparency to 50%. Looks very cool. I think you might like it. Both are free on app store.
I believe you need to enable it in launcher settings. At least I had to on my Mi Mix 2S. By default all apps were still displayed in my home screen
Doesn’t the Mi9 also do 27W charging?
What i find ironic in this is the section which critiques MIUI on these points is the tech-savvy kind, meaning they can use the solutions you described hence their argument loses credibility because there are simple solutions for them.
And the section which isn’t tech savvy (the core of Xiaomi post 2016, once they stopped being nerd’s choice and Moms and Uncles became their dominant user base) don’t really care and still use it just fine.
It is manufactured outrage for the sake of it. A platform doesn’t reach such expansion if it is so reviled and this MIUI is Bad narrative is ongoing since 2014 or so, it was less at first because it was a novelty and that garnered more sympathy in the nerd crowd.
Welcome to the #XIAOMIFANCLUB !!
As a developer it’s a security and update cycle thing
I had a Redmi Note 4 previously. MiUI was actually quite likeable on that phone, with all the features and theming support. There may still be some features that I haven’t found out about yet. Yes, there is a bit of bloatware, but you can uninstall most of it. One of the main issues (perhaps before MiUI 11, my younger sis got the phone when it was on MiUI 10) was that some of the system apps provided spam notifications, some of which were sexually provocative, or just highly irrelevant. The other was that its non-uninstallable system apps started showing advertisements as well, which would be the last ever thing you’d want on a system app, and you had to go through the apps’ settings and the settings app itself to turn off “recommendations” (ads in Xiaomi speak). Other than those, MiUI is quite likeable, and I hope version 11 has solved the spam notifications and ads issue.
I’m pretty sure most people criticising MiUI for its bloatware, being “crap Chinese software”, laggy, unresponsive etc haven’t checked it out themselves.
If you are saying about call recording, reply here after you get the phone and have call recording.
Ir*
Thank you so much for this. You made it so easy to understand the miui without having to reading bits here and there.
I think it’s only on some phones. My mi8 does not have app drawer on system launcher
you need to open the system app, then click settings, then search for ‘Receive recommendations’, turn it off
Welcome aboard pal! Don’t forget to install gcam
del5eted.
I really liked miui too, this is coming from a AOSP/CyanogenMod kinda guy. I didnt even bother rooting my low end xiaomi (5plus) because miui is good enough for me
Aye that’s my phone. Extremely good value, even at the usual undiscounted price. I got mine at a sale for $300NZD. An absolute steal.
iPhones are good, but extremely overpriced. That’s really it IMO.
>love this MIUI thing…really don’t understand the hate.
People who are used to pure android doesn’t try anything else and they think it is superior to all other out there. And i was one of them. 😅😂 After trying miui it is cool and useful. Now for me stock android feels an incomplete piece of shit. I need atleast custom roms like havoc for more features. Can’t stand android one roms. Prefer primarily miui, oneui etc though. Only problem i have is bloat, a lot to uninstall after a fresh install or reset. Other than that it is fine.
How do you turn off the ads on the system apps?
I’m coming from Samsung phone, one thing you might need get used to is the notification. Xiaomi will cut off some notifications automatically unless you set them to no restriction manually. Other than that, it’s a perfect budget phone.
I just downloaded MIUI 11 and don’t see an app drawer. Am I missing something? I have the Redmi Note 8 Pro
>app drawer
app drawer have comed in MIUI 11
I’ll give it a try
it’s the same but the k20 has less bands.
Not true. Mi 9 is actually a more flagship premium than 9T pro. Gorilla glass 6 (vs 5),somewhat better photography results, hdr 10, it blaster. I would say the headphone jack is the downside. Battery if you’re picky. It does charge fast. Wireless charging if that’s a feat for you. Not a fan of pop up camera and the mini notch get used to that you forget it’s even there. Want to avoid malfunctions or water sipping in somehow.
people hate it usually because:
bloatware (mi video, mi music); you can remove it using adb
ads on the system apps (file manager, cleaner, etc); you can turn these ads off
no app drawer (can use poco launcher)
but so far MIUI is fine for me (mi8, poco launcher, pixel theme)
same hardware, different software and branding
k20 is Chinese version, 9T is the Global version
Is redmi k20 the same as 9T? They look the same specs wise, identical dimensions, but the k20 is like $30 cheaper according to gsmarena. I’m in the US.
Everyone should try Poco launcher (it’s an official Xiaomi launcher)
I use the exact same. I love MIUI but I don’t like the standard launcher you get along with it.
Congratulations on crossing the bridge that almost no iphone user is willing/daring to cross.
I just got mine recently too! I upgraded from my s8. I agree that MUIU is great. Way better then ONE UI imo.
big battery and 27watt charging is what pushed me over the edge choosing the 9t pro.im using it for work, which i use a web interface most the day from my phone so screen on full brightness all day,4g on,bluetooth and music on all day,gps on,even wifi tethering on most of the day(so i can use the data my company pays for on my personal phone), come home with 50% battery
Yeah, the absence of the notch was the biggest reason for me to buy to Mi 9t pro instead of the Mi 9.
just got mine last week and unlocked the other day, coming from a S8 im extremely happy with it
I went this same path! Yeah I’m incredibly amazed at how reliable and great the phone is, and for as cheap as it is too (I think ~(150)). Better than any samsung or LG I’ve had.
Pixel experience android 10 is really fast too.
Wouldn’t worry about it too much – the 9 is very capable and you could buy the 9T in 6 months time and still be quids in vs a Samsung/iPhone etc.
I came from iPhone. I feel like I was getting scammed from apple
The only launcher that i really like is Evie.
I used to play around with MIUI Roms back in the day on my old HTC Sensation (Android 2.3-4.4) just for something different.
Now that I have a Xiaomi phone with MIUI as the base skin, I use LawnChair v2 for a more natural android feel.
IDK the miui thing bc I use Apex launcher. But 100% the most amazing phone ive ever had. Amazing photos. Glitched maybe twice since day 1.
Too bad you didn’t get the Mi 9T Pro, costs a bit more but it ROCKS!
Still, there’s nothing wrong with a normal Mi 9. Welcome to the club
imo there isn’t a phone with a screen better than my redmi k20. Maybe that other oneplus with a pop up camera, but my phone cost 221 euros and that other phone costs 699
I used the Nova Launcher since day 1, what exactly ist different in MIUI compared to Stock Android?
I’ve ordered my Xiaomi Note 10. Also switching from Galaxy Note 9. Reason is simple and absurd – google blocked voice recording after update to android 9, so Note 9 became a junk for me since february update.
> this MIUI thing…really don’t understand the hate.
I’ll never get it either. It does the job, I really like it too.
EDIT: For the sake of transparency, I have a 9T Pro so of course it’s fast, it has no notch so no notification problems and I’m still using MIUI 10, which works perfectly and I have no desire to update. And my phone is european so I haven’t seen an ad *anywhere*.
Welcome
Btw what was the reason to switch from Note 9
