Realised it after getting Mi A1 lol, stock Android from Google is pretty barebones, I take screenshots a lot and there’s no way to customize it, draw something without any other app. It’s awkward to hold volume down and power button.
Yeah sometimes I miss MIUI but their notification panel is fucked up pretty badly. So..
MIUI 9 looks good, has faster cool animation but damn fix that notification panel.
I’m so confused about that. What’s the deal with notification pane?
Try stock Android for one day and you’ll know what I’m talking about. I can reply directly from the panel without having to pinch out a notification (weird) + many google things don’t play well with miui, assistant never did in my case.
+ Stock Android is buttery smooth af.
I miss my Note 3 though, was stupid to downgrade to 650 to 625.
It sucks. It just shows notifications like it’s a fucking Froyo. You can use 2 fingers though, but then you have to use 2 hands. You can’t even write a reply directly.
Notifications are delayed because miui is actively closing apps that are disabled from running into background. Miui is not the way android is supposed to be but yes it holds up pretty well with it’s advanced features without rooting.
and what’s the point of having a lock screen when lock screen notifications are disabled by default for most of the apps. 😑
Ahh ok I’m coming from a Samsung Note 4 so I’ve yet to see the light of direct interaction with notifications. I do miss the one finger support now that I think of it. Never had an issue with the notification count thankfully.
Hopefully they’ll catch up
You can use GMD gestures to get your 3 finger screenshot back and much more. It’s awesome!
True for me as well. I’ve since stuck to a compromise of Xiaomi.eu and Nova Launcher for best stability. Rooted with Magisk of course. I know I can get features from MIUI with third party apps but I enjoy a lot for their apps. The MIUI Gallery app with the image editing is miles ahead of any Play Store offering, and the per app Data Saving settings are very useful. Might think of going back to AOSP if LineageOS 15 rolls around but that’s still a while away.
Switching back to MIUI? Not even once. Oreo is a beautiful thing 😍
I turned MIUI optimization off in developer options. I also turned ram optimization to high and disabled optimization in battery options. After all night sleeping my apps turned to whatever I have left there in the evening. Battery life unaffected. User experience hell yeah! Still not the best though.
Notifications are badly fucked up though I can’t stand how those look and work. Hopefully they’ll fix it later in MIUI 9
Except multitasking and notifications
Wow. Found the guy this meme was made for.
Maybe because I was already used to Cyanogenmod and Resurrection Remix before I ever got my first Xiaomi and (briefly) tried MIUI, but I’ve never felt limited by the features on custom roms. You want features? Just install a custom rom with more features.
8.0 roms are functional already? Camera working and stuff?
Oh hell yea, been a while actually! With the google camera mod it’s better than ever. Everything works and battery is decent (about 7hrs sot), and the smoothness is unreal.
I think you are talking about OnePlus 5. The optimal experience between stock rom and custom enhancements. But anyway, I get what you are saying. If I had to make a choice I would choose anytime a stock rom from a bloated MIUI. Stock rom can be enhanced with third party programs (Nova Launcher anyone?) and create an excellent experience.
I really really really dislike heavy customizations made by the manufacturers on android. They are destroying its functionality and not everything works as google designed it. I was an S7 owner and now an OP5… and this thing is pretty obvious to me. I guess the same goes for Xiaomi.
Me too. Stock android not only is ugly beyond belief, it is horrible.
Yep for me Resurrection Remix, AOSP Extended and the like are the pinnacle of android. Not much point in trying anything else.
I used to play Infinite Flight simulator a lot and it’s lagging even in low settings don’t know whether it’s an optimisation problem or that gpu is not capable.
650 is way out of league for that time when it launched, it completely crushed the competition except few phones that came with 652 with poor optimisation (LeEco).
Day to day tasks are smooth though on my Mi a1, sometimes the stock launcher redraws the pages for some unknown reason. and I’m getting bad image retention/burn in, replaced my first unit and the second one also has the same problem.
Thank god for Lineage OS.
Everything is disabled by default, and even when u enable it, it sometimes gets automatically disabled after a while. This could be great if it would work as it should, you wouldn’t have to use Greenify and other such apps, but it doesn’t work as it should, unfortunately.
Is this for MIUI? Tell me it makes it have modern notifications…
Get the mido and flash LineageOS anyway. The Mi A1 has a noisy audio circuit and doesn’t have a THICC battery; why bother?
625 is not technically a downgrade from the 650 though.
I like miui9. Its not perfect by far, but its workeable
Its china-customized. Xiaomi devs are basicly paranoid about the apps since most of the chinese appmarket is unverified apps. App uses gps? Notification about that. App wants to priority notify? Nope, regular notification. App has executeable notification links? Nope. Noway, nohow.
The gpu in that soc is thou
Fck, I have a mi5s and I hoped you were talking about LOS but I see NitrogenOS is a bit exclusive to the RN3
I’m having the same issue with assistant, at times it works, but most doesn’t. Is there any way to fix this?
Like 3 times in this week?
Or that’s only me who does that? X(
Only thing keeping me from MIUI now is the lack of Smart Unlock.
Right now, I’m on MIUI 9 7.10.12 Xiaomi.eu but I’m very much tempted to flash ResurrectionRemix on my Mi Max. I’ve been going back and forth and found too little built-in features on RR compared to MIUI and the way the system gets in the way of app notifications and running behaviors on MIUI make me crave for RR.
I’m also a flashaholic. I jump to latest releases the day they’re out, and I want to go back to MIUI and then to AOSP ROMs. It is also a cycle for me. XD
I was just about to download the X.EU 7.10.26 ROM that was released yesterday but held myself, as I have finals coming Monday and I need to study for it. I’m gonna have to stop myself from wanting to flash anything for the next 4 weeks until the exams are finished…
That gps notification about which app is currently using it is pretty sweet, effective way to know who is spying on me. 😂
On stock you have to go to Location, scroll down > Recent request.
Yepp, it won’t give you the gaming performance that SD650 used to give.
You have to remove fingerprint lock I think. Try using just pattern. and assistant is configured to work with stock apps so most of the time it won’t work.
Oh ok I’ll try that, even tho I was mostly interested in the voice activated assistant to set timers and reminders when I’m not near the phone (cooking timers and such which are super handy)
Install the stock clock app, calender, contact app from playstore. If removing fingerprint doesn’t work then try with fully unlocked.
else flash something else, don’t know why xiaomi is not giving us their assistant.
the xiaomi assistant should come with the miui9, but I don’t know how well it’ll work compared to the google assistant
It’s not coming on the global roms I think.
Oh ok I didn’t know that!
This is interesting. I just did all this tips You suggested. I’m wondering what about battery. No crashes?
I also lock to background every app that I use most often (social media, email apps, etc). That way I get to the app in an instant. Like I said I havent noticed any issues with battery so far. Its better to have apps in ram, then to turning it off and on again and a gain during day. I also havent noticed any crashes.
dont use security app, I noticed it removes every customization I did, eg it removes developer options from your settings
Yes, power is better on 650 but what about power consumption for longer battery life. Must be better on 625. Anyway, their branding of SoC is fucked up.
Is turning off Miui optimization a workaround to the need of disable Battery Saver option for each individual app from Battery & Performance?
android in general is terrible for the DPI, I had to change mine on second device already. Third wasnt worth it. I had only for a month and it was terrible.
Not sure. Sorry. I feel like it’s better
Redmi note 4x is far superior. And they also released mi 5x for that purpose. Its the same as A1. And both are worse in battery then RN4x. except the camera might be better
Wow thanks a lot for this! It has some bugs but it’s still way better than MIUI’s default notifications
The thing I don’t understand is how most of the notifications just don’t appear on the lockscreen. Gmail is the only thing that actually does, I think.
Well you need to turn them on. But that’s bad principle. I believe you should choose not to get them on lockscreen bc that’s default in android
Should be a notification everytime the microphone is activated too. Goodbye facebook permissions.
As someone who has used both stock Google and Miui I feel like a lot of the complains/issues users might have with the stock experience can more easily be addressed by a launcher than with a new ROM.
I’ve got a RN4 and have installed resurrection remix a couple weeks ago. Damn it’s a beast now, and the same THICC battery life!
Switch to ROM which supports “OMS” (overlay manager service), such as resurrection remix. Install substratum theme engine, and customize away. It’s very easy.
Do not use substratum with Lineage… it doesn’t support OMS and will give you stability issues.
Whenever I get bored… I just switch to a new theme, icon pack, and wallpaper and it’s a new experience.
I like MIUI, but the whole notification system keeps pushing me away. And by the looks of v9, not much has changed.
Screen on time?
I flashed MIUI 9 for a day in yet another attempt to fix my ongoing lte problems, and goddamn does it suck compared to LOS.
If you used chrome to access fb or anything related to front cam then it shows a notification of front cam and mic access.
Any idea of the Mi A1 will work on Telus? I check will my phone work and it says it might anyone have one on Telus?
Between 4 and 6 hours, depending on usage
Yes, it runs on Telus if you get the global version (where B4/5/7 is supported and listed by the seller). I have it running on Public Mobile here in BC, which runs off of Telus towers. The one good thing is that unlike Rogers/Fido, Telus utilizes B5 in weak areas. So having access to that band is a nice perk.
Sorry for highjacking this, but i thought that burn in was an issue inherent to OLED panels, on IPS it’s supposed to be reversible. Can you please provide more insight about this? Thanks.
Yes they are almost reversible, not completely. The marks are fading away on my display after a while, when I put it on charge and wake up in the morning I can’t find anything, completely gone. But within minutes of using something it appears again.
So they are temporary. That’s a relief. I have a nexus 6 with the AMOLED panel, and the navigation buttons are etched forever on the bottom of the screen. Luckily it’s still covered by warranty, but i’ll sell it after the replacement to get a new mobile phone with an IPS panel. Xiaomi phones are interesting, but i’m not sure about warranty coverage.
Anyway I’m not touching an OLED panel again, at least until the manufacturers will acknowledge and fix the problem.
or what’s eating the battery
As I understand it only works with MI devices, haven’t gotten it to work with my non MI devices. Furthermore Google smart unlock lets unlock by position among other things, much more versatile.
Thanks for the clarifications, although EU regulations prescribe a 2 year warranty on any goods sold within the union. But anyway, it looks like Xiaomi will start retail operations in Spain,so it should be easier to get a device with proper warranty.
Some people even want MIUI on non-Xiaomi phoned such as the OnePlus ones…
Avg. Brightness level?
Auto mostly, but I feel it keeps it around 40%
So, any noticable difference in battery life than Stock?
With RR? Not really, but a noticeable improvement in performance
LOL. And you as well. Shiny new Mi Mix 2 on the way I see? My phones are pretty much post-wall already, but reliable enough. Mi Mix 2 is way more young and sexy. I may want to branch swing…
Yep. A guy from my company’s Shanghai site just flew over a couple weeks ago, and he brought his brand new Mi Mix 2 with him. Damn, it was so beautiful I think I might want one. Only hangups for me are that I prefer smaller phones that fit in my pocket, and the lack of headphone jack of course.
ok damn, you’re the only person who posts a sub-6-hours SOT on an RN4 apart from me. I thought I was doing something disastrously wrong when everyone’s flaunting their 12 hour SOT and I’m just here like…????????
doesn’t it kill you to reinstall apps after clean flashing? That’s the only thing that stops me.
oh look it’s actually me 😀
+1. You should see if there’s an unrelated software issue; it’s been working fine for me.
I like your flair. I also should make my flair to Xiaomi.eu Beta 7.X too cuz I flash almost every week and can’t be bothered or remember to update the flare every week…
Yes. It is really a mess. That’s why I try to settle down with one rom to use it as daily basis.
And then I find something really annoying of that rom and the cycle starts again 🙁
it’s like UGH STOP USING THE VERSIONING SYSTEM PERFECTLY THE WAY IT WAS INTENDED TO BE USED!
