First letter in MIUI ROM version always stands for Android version
If you look to your current MIUI version, you have QCOMIXM – Q means Android 10
This new update version started with R, which is Android 11
It’s little bit confusing to have newer version with lower number of MIUI, but it’s like that
its not broken, its a small minority w/issues that make all the comments /shrug

Broken, like? I know they removed the ability to split screen, there’s a workaround but not a good solution. In recent apps, long press on an app will bring you straight to app info instead of a menu with lock in background, split screen etc.

it’s android version update from 10 to 11, so the number reset to 12.0.1 or sometimes 12.0.2 depends on the device, it’s hard to explain but yeah that’s the point
I have bad experiences with upgrading the Android version while the Xiaomi phone has MIUI on it lmao

Depends on the phone so search posts and forums.
But you will lose full screen gestures unless you use the miui launcher for sure.

You have is android 10 and upgrade is android 11.
So you’re getting an older version of miui on a newer version of Android. Gotta love Xiaomi.
Make sure you know the pitfalls of Android 10 to 11 before you upgrade.
I got the same update, on the same phone Redmi Note 8 global version
now I’m not getting notification sound and I can’t install apps outside of the Google play store because package installers don’t work after the update, I even cleared cache and tried restarting my phone
For example, can’t install apps via aurora store or fdroid or APK updater…
This is a very problematic update
It’s an Updgrade to Android 11.
R = 11, Q = 10.
Don’t install it or you will regret it . Believe me. I had the same level of exciting & boy it’s so broken
