I have already seem similar thing done on PC but I don’t know what software has been used to achieve that.

They used a Philips Hue smart lamp. This post has been crosspoted from a subreddit about the Philips Hue products.

I have seen this in another post… they were talking about Phillips hue (there is a dedicated Philips device to acquire via hdmi the input from your tv, and that manage the hue lamps and lights….). In the same post they were also sharing a raspberry pi configuration that will manage again the philips hue light set…
EDIT the OP is part of a r/hue subreddit…

The easiest (but expensive) way is a Philips Ambilight TV plus Philips Hue bulbs. Since you can sync them together in the TV settings. And it works with everything, movies, games (console,pc) whatever is hooked on the TV.

Only working on PC monitors in your building, isn’t it? I have read a lot about hyperion a while back and using it with a TV was not that easy… You need a Hdmi splitter and something (raspberry) to catch the picture only to create the led effect…

Color switching and saturation are a bit too intense in the video and the lights are too bright so they take away from the actual image. But ambilight is absolutely amazing for gaming.

True, but I thought this was for PC gaming .This would be harder for TV definitely but it works out for me since I have a small HTPC attached to TV and all the content is selfhosted.

Phillips hue have Windows software that can do this for any content iirc. I have tried the software on my ShieldTV, IIRC any content that has DRM protection will not work, my KODI library works fine however.

There are a few projects I know of: Lookup 1) Ambilight Yeelight and 2) Jeelight and 4) Yeeme.

I had started playing with this using Kodi and one Yeelight bulb (never got around to getting a second bulb, so abandoned it eventually). Works best I think if you somehow “hide” the bulbs behind the screen, so the light extends from the TV (I think the setup of this video would bother me).

hyperion is not OOTB experince but its not that difficult, have a look at [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urOEHzbV48A&t=220s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urOEHzbV48A&t=220s) , theres even a prebuilt PI image . This page shows the LED HW it works with [https://docs.hyperion-project.org/en/user/LedDevices.html#network](https://docs.hyperion-project.org/en/user/LedDevices.html#network)

I did it using a pi zero, splitter and USB HDMI box and have mine connected wirelessly to a WLED box attached to the TV to run the LED’s (mainily to reduce wire runs)

The spliiter I use is 4k HDR compatible (im only HDR10 as its samsung TV but it claims DV support) the downside is no ARC back to my amp but ive got round that by using an optical cable i had running any way but wasnt using,

Just found a spliiter with ARC passthrough [https://www.amazon.de/-/en/FeinTech-VSP01222-Splitter-Outputs-Receiver/dp/B08KFD4XGK/ref=sr\_1\_1?dchild=1&keywords=VSP01222&pldnSite=1&qid=1610836964&sr=8-1](https://www.amazon.de/-/en/FeinTech-VSP01222-Splitter-Outputs-Receiver/dp/B08KFD4XGK/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=VSP01222&pldnSite=1&qid=1610836964&sr=8-1)

You can use a Philips hue sync box and LED Strips but that can cost £250+ . I only use a android box right now. But my TV has ambilight anyway. My research was years ago, before I bought the TV I still use.

Once I settle and being able to setup a proper system, I may return to try it myself. The results are really awesome.

This is exactly what I meant. This splitter is limiting the use with the rest of the hardware.

Not to mention the hardware itself… But like dodiggity mentioned, using a htpc would solve this. I am not yet ready to plan a possible replacement for my solution, but the day will come and the results using hyperion are just amazing.

That depends, I have it running off my amps output so anything that comes via the amp works. If you have an amp with 2 outputs no splitter needed just run it off the secondary

Iirc You can also get hdmi switches that include a splitter which would also work
