Seems faster than Vivo’s implementation, but not as fast as a normal FP still.

And + you get an OLED screen. I don’t care about having an in-screen fingerprint reader, but I’m all for it if that means we get more phones with OLED screens. (unless somebody develops an in-screen fingerprint reader that doesn’t require an OLED panel to function, of course)

Yes, thats what we want to see. Not 3D face scan.
Now only MiMix2 style bezels without notch and thois will be a instabuy.

Also i like that they didnt go for the larger size FPScanner like vivo, caise the a huge area of the screen lights up white like it is seen in vivo videos. Jus plain ugly.

Well there are reports that xiaomi bought millions of amoled panels from samsung. So it makes sense to assume that they are using samsung oled for the mi7/8 and if that is the case then the quality will definitely be better than the mi note 2.

This is such a fake. The Mi 6 is barely launched and they expect us to believe that a working prototype of the Mi 8 already exists? \#FakeNews

I hate front-facing FP scanners 🙁 The back is so convenient, why can’t it just be there?

I have a Redmi Note 4 which I love, but I want something with smaller bezels. Is there something that has great battery life, back FP scanner, SD card, and smaller bezels? I would also like NFC and USB-C (and running LineageOS), but that might be asking too much. Is there a phone like that?

Hi, I’m from 2018. North Korea and south Korea is having peace talks. I know it’s hard to believe, but trust me, I’m from the future. Infact, here, I’ll prove I’m from the future. Xiaomi will release a phone with stock Android towards the end of the year.

It is pretty much proven that Xiaomi skips the 7 and releases the Mi 8 right after the 6.

People who don’t want to pick up their phone from a table to unlock it for example. I pretty much don’t care, fp reader still is convenience, If you have something to hide you’ll certainly have to ensure its safety with more than insecure fp readers.

Other features matter way more in my opinion

They will likely skip 7 to have Mi8 on their 8th anniversary. Other sources suggest they might launch Mi7 and Mi8 at the same time like Apple did with iPhone 8 and X last year.

I’m the exact opposite concerning the fp scanner. This is why I’m not leaving my op5 until this in screen tech is a thing, which I suspect will be in the next gen of phones. The way i work, I have my phone laying on my desk a lot. I use it while I’m doing other things that require hands (loud speaker, etc). I used a xiaomi with a back fp for a bit over 1 month. I just stopped using the fp scanner, was a bother to use as I didn’t want to be picking up my phone all the time. Also, if I need to touch the back with my index I always have to reposition my hand after so I can reach stuff on the screen. I don’t have that issue with the frontal one. Probably my small hands are the problem but it’s the phone that needs to adapt to me, not the other way around 🙂

What is the point in OLED screens? They have dirty colors, strange color fringes on contrast edges and all current implementations burns out

Hmm, I never use my phone on the desk, if I’m at the computer I just access what I need there. I guess that’s why I find the back scanner convenient.

Image-wise, they have better black & contrast. And properly calibrated, they have much better colour rendition as well.

But, just like almost any other choice lately (like removing the heaphone jacks), they are lighter, thinner and use less power so you can both make the phone itself thinner and use a smaller battery.

Why make phone thinner today? As for me, phones are already ok, no need to make it thinner anymore.

Much better color rendition compare to what? Old OLEDs? But still incomparable to IPS.

Less power consumption – marketing bullshit.

Contrast and blacks – just slightly better then IPS.

But still modern OLEDs burns out in a month.

I just don’t see why switch to OLEDs

Not sure how they’ll implement a 3.5mm in the display itself, but anything possible. ^^^^^/s

I’m pretty sure that’s the always-on display they’re unlocking from. No need to wake it if that’s the case. 🤔

That’s not only a notch, that’s a huge notch. Bigger than the iPhone’s… Gonna wait for the mi mix 3 personally. Notches are no-gos for me.

You should research. It’s extremely obvious that you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Thinner components mean you can fit more into a phone, eg more battery.

Oled flagships, like the s9 and iPhone X, both have very very very good colour accuracy – if not the best.

They do have better power efficiency, since they do not require a backlight and pixels are individually powered.

It’s not slightly better – it’s literally and mathematically infinitely better.

Modern oleds do not burn out in a month. Cut out the hyperbole.
