I’m tired of Xiaomi.

  • 0

Hi everyone. I am a Xiaomi user since 2020, had a Redmi Note 8T, and now I have a Redmi Note 10 Pro, but I’m just tired. Everything you want to do is stupidly complex and restricted, you HAVE to use their ad-filled bloatware all the time, no bypassing on that. Ads. Everywhere. Music? There’s just content you don’t want to see and don’t care about. Mi Video? Same, even worse because they force you to use it. Their apps are everything but ergonomic and easy to use. It just sucks.

So I’d like to ask everyone here: what phone should I get? The only good thing about Xiaomi is that they’re cheap and work well, but that’s it.

Just switch to another Custom ROM.I can understand your frustrations, I had the same situation(s) , (I am using Redmi note 8) I couldn’t handle it anymore , Security scans, for me personally I had problems with Bluetooth not turning on , Wifi turning off by itself from time to time low battery life and, ads ..ads.. ads!! Everywhere!!! No more updates, and many more other problems
The best thing I ever did was switching to another Custom ROM, PixelOS in my situation , made everything brand new plus Rooting the phone adding ad blocker and many more apps to enhance my experience, and now ı am more than satisfied with the results.

I’m using Mi brand from 2017-18 when I got the Poco F1. It’s the best phone I ever had. Held up great even after 5 years. Got 11T Pro last year. I miss some features from. POCO’s UI. Not much has changed.

Everyone talk about bloatware, ads and stuff. And it has never even once bothered me. Ofcourse its got lot of shit by default and is not as clean as other brands. But MIUI has one of the best customisability in all of the brands.

These are the first things I do when I bought the Mi phone

    – you switch off Glance for lock screen
    – uninstall pre-installed 3rd party apps, Mi apps
    – long press apps that can’t be uninstalled(Mi pay for example, and disable it) won’t get any ads, notifications.
    – go to settings and disable all ad preferences, recommendations
    – For music, I used to have local music but haven’t used it for years cz of Spotify( I use Xmanager, premium Spotify for free)
    – still, you can just go to music app settings and switch off all ads, videos, online recommendations, all online features, you will just have music app.
    – other than that, i did nothing much.
    – and whenever I get notifications of unwanted apps like themes, getapps, I just long press it and disable notifications from the notification shade itself. Although you can go into notification settings and disable for multiple apps at once.

Well I am a Xiaomi user since their first ROM… I hated it as it started rolling out more devices that they can keep track with updates… After the 10th series I decided to switch.

Nothing phone was a target but all my friends using it were having software issue… When for OnePlus… Same buggy issues and they don’t really care even if you escalate the problem higher… Issue still not solved… The phone is sturdy but they have a lot of bad parts…
Now I think to go back to Xiaomi or just go upper and stick to Samsung 🙂

Custom rom dude. I have two mi devices mi note 10 pro now im on xiaomi 14. For both devices i waited for a few days until allowed to unlock bootloader and flash the custom xiaomi eu rom right away. Both devices works fine and dandy without bloatwares and rooted too. Have to remind you tho have to study carefully before flashing or else end up as expensive paperweight. And of course it would void warranty if it is still covered.

Head to Settings > Network and Internet > Advanced > Private DNS. Choose the option Private DNS Provider Hostname. Enter dns.adguard.com and Save. I hope this will work for you or just search in the settings Private DNS and go to private DNS provider and enter dns.adguard.com , u can also use dns.quad9.net , they are both good and reliable and block most of the ads on your phone and blocks annoying ads when browsing sites .

Xiaomi phones aren’t cheap, those are Redmi. And they ARE different. One’s a flagship while the other, an upper mid range (depending on models of cos). So far the Poco F5 Ive bought last Octo has been serving me well. No issues

I’ve been using Xiaomi since 2018 and never had to use any of their official apps (aside from the obvious Security Check on app installation). Anyways, the Redmi Note 10 Pro offers a solid base for custom ROMS. Besides my MIUI-running one, I have one running the (now-unsupported) Android 13-based Pixel Experience custom ROM and it’s pretty amazing, to be honest.

A lot of people here would defend Xiaomis poor software. They would say deboloat, install this install that. A good phone does not need you to do things just to make it useable and behave as it should be. Try switching to a more minimal phone like pixel, or even Nothing. If you can afford it, then iPhone would serve you better for abreally long time.

I used to buy xiaomi phones, and felt the degrading quality of their software. Switched to other oems and thebquality difference is miles

You could just use a Resolution Changer from the Play Store. It just needs to be granted 1 permission using ADB.

I think the problem is that you’re using the Redmi brand. That and Poco are the worst amongst the Xiaomi brands…

I’ve also been a long time Xiaomi user, I’ve had Mi A2, Poco M3 Pro 5G and now currently with 11T. Even just switching to the Poco phone I mentioned, I noticed there were many things that I disliked, like a constant lag on all the inputs I made on my phone (basically whenever I scrolled or did something on the UI, there was like a 0.20 second delay) which made the phone not feel smooth at all.

Mi 11T 256 GB was worth around 440€ when I bought it a years and a half ago and I’m still happy with it. The only downside is that it’s not good for gaming and I have messed the phone a bit trying to play high graphics games for a while. Aside from that, the bloatware is fine, since the only xiaomi apps that I use are “File manager” and “Gallery”. For music I use Spotify premium and a offline manual music player from the play store.

I don’t know how the bloat-ware is on the Redmi series, but on the T series, it’s fine. I never have to use Mi Video for anything, I just have it set to open videos through gallery or something.

If you want better price/quality phone switch to the Xiaomi T series before going to something else imho.

My parents got Xiomi. I did the usual system troubleshooting turning off some shit in settings and more importantly, set their private dns to NextDns where I also turned on the OS/Brand based blocking (apple, samsung, xiomi etc).

    No ads now system wide

Lmao, I’ve seen this kind of comments endlessly. You buy what you can afford….obviously as you shared you can only afford phones in the range of Xiaomi then that’s what you should be using. Want to complain? Then save up for a Samsung/Apple whichever floats.

What’s the point of lamenting about Xiaomi? There are issues and flaws because that’s the price range, the profit margin only allows X around for R&D and maintenance.

1.There is a fix to their ad-filled software. Using ADB, you can uninstall all trackers and all apps responsible for ads. Mi video has a replacement with 0 ads also made by xiaomi called Media viewer. And personally, i uninstalled Mi Music.

2.-Google pixels have very clean systems, no bloatware whatsoever and a very clean look. The phones themselves arent good hardware wise, their cpus tend to overheat a lot and battery life isnt great, but they sure are reliable and take extremely good photos.

-OnePlus has been making some pretty good phones recently for fair prices. The Nord 3 and 12R are very good as price to quality ratio.

-Samsung only gives you a good experience if you buy an S series, the A series phones tend to be slow, weak and dont last more than 2 to 3 years. But the S series are pretty good, especially the ones with good snapdragon cpus. Personally i dont like the look of OneUI, but maybe you will do.

-Honor has been stepping up their game on their flagships too. They have the best photography phone right now and their phones have become genuinely good. But the mid rangers are kinda meh. I dont think they will be supported for long.

ALTERNATIVE: Custom roming. If youre willing to custom rom your xiaomi, you can get a better experience than with the stock software. Roms from xiaomi.eu are basically european roms with features from the chinese rom and no bloatware whatsoever. And theres also pixel experience, which is pretty self explanatory.

Wrong, actually. Android as the OS is awesome before the manufacturer adds their salt to it.

The Mi A2 was basically like a lightweight cheap Google Pixel without any bloat, except the suspicious file manager (Google Files is the original) and the feedback app (Android One already has a native one). I loved the phone, before I started missing on the NFC and getting short on storage. I tried using it from time to time and it’s still buttery smooth, except the battery’s capacity after only 50 short cycles state 60%.

Do you want to hear something crazy? My dad has a Redmi Note 4X which has been out of support for a long time now. Recently, he started getting random ads from the Mi Browser, Music player and Gallery app or the “daily wallpapers” from that weird Chinese app. In general, Xiaomi’s phones are e-waste in terms of the chipsets, no mattery whether it’s Redmi or Poco, they’re still in the Mi’s ecosystem.

The only real Mi phone I ever had was a Mi A2 which I absolutely loved because of the Android One ROM and Qualcomm SoC.

If you want a quality phone, get a flagship Samsung or Google Pixel which can be easily debloated with a still valid warranty.

Can’t agree more. The Mi A2 was lowkey the best phone I’ve ever had by far.

At that time, it was the most powerful, high quality, good UI, excellent price phone at the time. Only downside was the shit camera, but watever. I remember someone I knew told me about it and I though it was too good to be true until I bought it for myself.

I could literally play Asphalt 9 in 2018 and 2019 at 30 fps veeery smoothly; no overheating, no frame rate drop, no nothing. If you don’t know what game this is, it’s basically the go to game they use in phone ads to show a game with good graphics and fps. Now with my 11T I can’t play the game at 30fps because it feels like 10fps and is unplayable and at 60fps because it overheats after 10-30 min and starts lagging or crashes 😂

After long time using Samsung I changed to redmi note 13 pro plus now and so far I am happy. Especially picture and video editing apps are so great neither Apple nor Samsung offers something like that. I don’t even need to use Adobe products.
Only thing I hate is mi video and tiktok like videos. But other alternatives can be used right?

I had a terrible experience trying to get my Poco F3 repaired from Xiaomi. 30 days passed and still not repaired. Been in contact with official Xiaomi global representatives but they were themselves a nightmare to deal with. I’ve decided I am never buying another Xiaomi device ever again, after being a dedicated customer for over 8 years and can’t count the number of people I recommended Xiaomi to. Finally bought a Samsung, gonna throw away my Poco in the trash.

Utterly disappointed by their customer service and quality control!

Xiaomi 14 comes with no ads. I found no bugs, interface is super clean, os apps are working perfect, and I sold my 15 pro max to keep this one. If he paid 200 euro for a phone expect it not to be as great as an iphone, pixel or anything more expensive, yet he can disable those ads if he searching for tutorials

The only game I’ve ever tried playing on it was PUBG mobile back in 2018/19, but I never considered myself a mobile player. The only other “game” I played was Neko Atsume. :3

Yeah, the camera wasn’t the best, but still better than nothing. The front LED flashlight was amazing.

I just can’t compare it to my current Pixel 8 anymore. The only thing they probably share is a good software. Mi A2 was my first phone where I could experience the Google Dialer and Messages apps. Compared to the Samsung’s or Xiaomi’s stock ones, these are the possibly cleanest ones right after the default AOSP ones. With the Google’s RCS and spam filtering, I don’t think there will be anything better than that.

Oh and rooting, I can’t even explain over how simple it is. Literally, a single switch in the dev options and one line in the fastboot (bootloader) is all you need to unlock it on both phones. Xiaomi (Redmi and so on) on the other hand, literally want your DNA or birth certificate (aka Mi account with all your personal information) like if you were going to do… you know.

I understand the frustration. My recommendations are the following:

    • Look for options to disable/uninstall the apps preinstalled. There are some already available just a Google search away.

    • Change the Launcher to one you like. I myself recommend Nova Launcher.

    • Try switching the DNS from Automatic to dns.adguard.com in your wifi settings. Easiest way to get rid of some ads. Also look for apps to help with that.

The problem is, once you try out something from them and you don’t like it, it’s hard to get back to it. That’s what most people do and it’s definitely the manufacturer’s fault for developing their lineups and advertising the products.

People are just giving advice on how to fix the problem and you call it defending. If you are here just to vent, shittalk, and not to discuss a solution then find a therapist or a support circle to express your dissatisfaction

Great list though for people that do need it

And agreed great phones and I’ve had a few flagships from companies that aren’t Samsung and Apple and this phone cos half the price and it’s just as good

Most important their build quality is amazing 🤩 ve dropped this a few times and not even a scratch I haven’t been able to drop a phone without it breaking since before the Xperia 3 came out and those Sony phones I used to purposely drop from 5ft just to prove to people their Samsung was a piece of shit

I’m from India. You don’t have all the ads n shit, thanks to EU.. none of the EU or American models have this(there is a little bit of bloat apps in US models). But asian models are filled to the brim with bloatware and ads. And most users are non tech savvy and just don’t care like we do. So they just don’t switch it off.. it’s common to see our parents’ phones here full of colorful ads in notification shade and in the apps.

I think I’m gonna make a video of how to switch off stuff lol.. it’s simple and people just don’t do it

This is a xiaomi sub. Most people will still recommend Xiaomi phones. You should try a general android sub.

Also why have you kept buying the phone if the user experience was so unpleasant?

Sadly, just because we did something decent with gdpr doesn’t mean that the EU is automatically good.

I mean, if we wanna really talk about it, even with gdpr the current execution and results are underwhelming at best. Better than the US? Sure, but bar’s quite low.

The adguard DNS method works but I finally move to samsung A55 after using xiaomi for 8 years since Redmi Note 3. Probably have used more than 10 xiaomi phones (I change phone a lot)

I don’t really play games anymore and the software experience (and monthly security patches) is much better, xiaomi custom firmware scene is dying, and also the battery life in new xiaomi phones is not stellar (5hrs less SOT on my poco f5).

My last Xiaomi phone is 11T, and that’s the last of it. Have dropped Xiaomi for good. Software is just getting sh*ttier, and I was Xiaomi user since Mi 3.

Since then, I have moved to Realme, Oppo, and now using Samsung s23 for almost a year. I have to say that Realme is much2 better than Xiaomi.

Kinda disagree with the Samsung, at least on some parts. Their A-series with MediaTek, like the A34 and A15 are great and smooth too. Plus you got long software updates too. Their A-series with Exynos, in other part, tends to be less efficient battery-wise and sometimes heats up, at least that’s my experience with Exynos 1280 and 1380. Dunno about their A55.

Yeah, it was really good back then, you get good quality without paying the premium. Been using Xiaomi since Mi3, then Mi4,Mi5 then Mi5s then dropped them for Oneplus, then tried again with the Mi11 and regreted it with the wifi hardware issues it has, had to replace it when my mi11 died suddenly with a redmi note 10 pro which i regretted so much.

Also Xiaomi phones these days has become pricier and I’m tired of waiting for their UDC

I unlock the bootloader and flash Xiaomi.eu as soon as I get a new phone, I don’t have any of these problems.

The problems I *do* have are:

    * Webpages take an *extremely* long time to first load (like 30-45 seconds), must be some DNS issue because if I try a subsequent page it’s good.
    * My phone is really sluggish now. I know it’s not the CPU, because I wiped my old Mi 9T and it’s three times as fast as my bogged-down Poco F4. I know it’s the apps, but I don’t know which apps are running in the background all the time and taking up CPU so I can stop them.

One of the reasons you are able to get these specs so cheap are the ads. Go compare the same specced phone of another brand and see what price you’ll land on.

You are able to turn off all of them though and use other than the stock apps.

I’ve been on and off Xiaomi and honestly I’ve neve had any trouble with ads. I don’t understand how or where you get those. The only one I’ve had trouble with was the Mi Mix 2 I bought from China, so it had a Chinese ROM and was full of bloatware.
Right now I’m on a 14 and the complain I have is the home screen animation that is slow not on par with my expectations, because even with all the animations off it’s not snapping things, I have to reduce them to 0,1x and have the animation.

It’s a necessary evil. Xiaomi, after all, is selling these mobile phones at a loss. Their business strategy assumes that the average person is dumb enough to not be able to remove these ads and so they make back a profit on it.
Quite frankly, it’s your fault for not researching their business model before buying a Xiaomi phone, here’s a good video that unravels this

    Wait… What are ads?

Just change DNS settings and done! Not only because Xiaomi or Chinese brands, else for (some) Google ads (sadly not for YouTube or X ads, but you can use Mozilla f***ing Firefox + UBlock Origin addon).

Off-topic: ypu can play videos in background/screen off with Mozilla Firefox and Video Background Play Fix addon).

I had the same problem as OP before I installed a custom ROM. Every time I was watching some video in miui gallery app, when they ended, a popup appeared saying “use our app mi video”. There was a button to close it, but instead of taking me back to gallery app, it was taking me to mi video. So instead of clicking one time to close the video, I had to click 3 times to go back to the gallery app.

I own 5 redmi note 12 (each members of my family). I never see a phone so slow.
You get a call, you ear your ringstone but the screen won’t turn on… As Saïd, bloatware and ADS everywhere…
HyperOs is all but “hyper” or… ” Xiaomi HyperSlowOs”.
This phone is just a joke.
Maybe we can flash a New os, the original Android without all the Xiaomi craps

Stay with Xiaomi just disable the ads, and in higher end Xiaomi phones ads basically don’t exist, if you go with any cheap Xiaomi phone (i say this a lot) use the clean up tool from Chris Titus to remove any unwanted parts from your entire phone’s android software not just hyperOS or MIUI

You could download shizuku and shizutools and delete all the bloatware and pre-installed apps. Then you can download the apps you like.

You sure they “work well”? I have switched to Samsung a few years ago and it was miles better. Now I have an iphone and it is even smoother. I think many people think their xiaomi devices work well because they havent tried other phones for many years.

it depends a lot on where you live, but check the prices on the older flagship models from samsung or pixel. i got a note 20 ultra last year for under $300 because the glass on the screen was cracked in one of the corners (i can barely see it when the screen is off). i replaced the battery myself and this phone is amazing even by today’s standards. it’s much better than an A54 and i don’t have to deal anymore with xiaomi’s terrible user experience and ram management. i only get security updates now but that’s fine, you don’t get many os updates on budget xiaomi phones either.

I know that there are annoying and abnormal ads on Xiaomi phones, and I mean in the settings, the interface sometimes, and system applications, but there is a solution for that. There are many people on YouTube who explained the method of removing them, either in detail or in a simplified way.

Well that’s what you get on cheap phones tbh, the reason they’re so cheap is because you’re allowing them to run ads on certain Xiaomi apps.

I’m on the Redmi Note 11 Pro and get ads on certain apps, my sister has a higher end Xiaomi and doesn’t have any of these ads. You get what you pay for. 🤷‍♂️

I live here too but I get ads, only like when downloading an app and it runs the Xiaomi security check after install and things like that, they’re there but I don’t notice them anymore, they’ve faded into the background for me as I’m on my 4th Xiaomi phone with ads.

It’s worth it when you root your phone. Ads and tracking services can be turned off, custom modded launcher and custom system ui add-on also what keeps me stay, their phone also last long, mine survived 5 years, i only change the volume button.

Although the performance is crap, but I don’t do heavy gaming anyway

I’ve been a Xiaomi user since 2019; I got a Mi 9T pro and am now a Xiaomi 14 and have an excellent phone experience. I’m not sure, but you don’t need to use the Xiaomi apps, only the ones that manage photos, settings, and the basic stuff, and I’ve never seen a single piece of Advertising or bloatware; maybe it is the country.? The edit tool for pictures and videos is pretty simple and helpful. This is just my experience; of course, I don’t mean to discredit anybody.

I’ve used Xiaomi phones since 2013 and can attest to their ad-ridden nature. However, most of the ads can be turned off, ignored or apps can be replaced with third party ones.

The most annoying feature to me personally is the inability to turn off Youtube recommendations in default Xiaomi browser, that thing drives me up the damn wall. And sure, I use Chrome and Opera and those don’t have those problems, there are situations where I need to use default xiaomi browser, so that just pisses me off the most.

However, the reason why Xiaomi phones are so cheap for their quality and performance is the fact Xiaomi put so many ads into them. So we get what we pay for.

As an extreme solution, one could just flash some different OS, I’ve heard people using stuff like Lineage OS and such, for more customized experience, might wanna look into that.

Its not the problem of the smartphone, its just a dumb user. I’ve used few of xiaomis mid to high end phones and really loved it, still thinking of migrating too. I used iphone and daily driving flagship samsung. The ads in all 3 phones are the same. Samsung has its tons of bloatwares also and using samsung pay, you are forced to look at their ads. Iphone has ads in their freaking Setting window that you cant dismiss!

Shifted from long years of Redmi to Nothing 2a this year. Although the specs won’t match the current Redmi phones in the market, it has been so refreshing using a clean UI along with some design choices I really like.

Go to settings > password & security > authorization & revocation > disable MSA to not consent this app than mean MSA = MIUI System ads, most of system apps will can’t show ads, example an ads in folder on launcher not gonna show and receive recommendations button gone.

Ultra powerful when Root. Or debloat by shizuku but thermal control stay with shizuku..
Don’t buy if u don’t understand how Xiaomi work.
This isn’t expensive for the material.
We don’t care about the rom, learn how to unlock/Root.

    I got you,
For the ads hit : Settings>More connectivity options>Private DNS>Custom DNS>type in the input dns.adguard.com ads will disappear.
For the bloatware apps use an adb or brevent and run [this file](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-C20gSspleiqhYaQackZ244w6VyOx-g1/view?usp=drivesdk)by typing in the adb tool (Brevent app is better) sh /u/download/debloatg.sh by this the bloatware apps will be deleted completely and some system apps that will make the phone slow.
2nd method : is to root phone (you can find how to root redmi note 10 pro easily) and use some mods like (Hyperceiler this will prevent a much lot options and customizations)
3rd method:flash a custom rom because there is so much custom roms for redmi note 10 pro.
    Hope this help yo

I made my move to samsung years ago and it was one the best decisions I ever made.

I was using a mi max 3 because I wanted a big screen. After it broke for no reason I looked for big screen phones and realized Samsung galaxy note 10 plus was great.
