I don’t understand the response to IPS. oled is not outright better there are good and bad for each. And after using an oled I can’t wait to go back to an IPS panel on a flagship device

Oled is better. IPS has its own pluses, but overall oled is much better. All premium devices use oled, whether that be phone, laptop, or a tv.

    >Given this subreddit’s response to the Mi 10T Pro spec post, I’m gonna guess the Mi 10T Pro isn’t popular anyway due to the IPS display.

it isn’t popular because poco f2 pro with its amoled is just better and cheaper phone (and higher refresh rate isn’t an excuse)

Oled i’ve used most recently is Asus rog phone 3. Suffers from strong black crush, artifacting, black smearing, minimum brightness is way too bright, the higher the refresh rate setting the more “diluted” the screen looks. Asus’s only solution so far is to give everything a red tint on low brightness. (and could potentially have future burn in, who knows)

Seems even some oneplus 8 units experience similar issues but wouldn’t know from first hand.

I’m sure there are some oleds that are of sound quality, but I find IPS usually are more accurate for colors, and don’t have really any of these problems in my experiences.

Damn, as a Redmi K20 Pro user, I feel 2nd hand embarassment. I guess this is their shortcomings for all the good products at cheap prices and good quality….

Instead of just faking reviews, they should just make sure the phone cannot receive any bad reviews…

Xiamoi are sort of in the wrong but literally any company that loan out review phones can refuse video to be uploaded.

The YouTuber gets literally free money and doesn’t have to pay out of pocket for the device like smaller channels.

Literally every company has done this before that loans out review copies this is not a big deal

That’s not what I meant. I meant any company should just make goods that they are confident in. Look at Tesla for example. They literally allowed drivers to sleep while the cat was driving.

K so Tesla cars have been recalled they’re not the safest Cars ever made (plus Elon is a scumbag who suppressors workers rights and doesn’t care about public safety)
Also self driving cars are extremely dangerous.

Also also this phone absolutely shits all over any phone out this year this one bad review doesn’t make the phone bad

Bruh, let’s get this out of the way first. I am not someone who fanboys over Xaiomi nor do I say it is a very bad company. I say this cause’ I get the feeling that you are a fanboy of Xaiomi (I will take all offence if I am wrong)

But as of the given topic, I have never stated the phone is a bad phone. In fact, I even stated in another comment in this same thread how this phone has no real reason to prevent itself from being reviewed. If anything, I have only heard praises from Linus, Mrwhosethebose, etc. It has an excellent Camera and the best SoC.

But this is not the context. We are talking about a specific situation where a reviewer was let down by the company and his doubts were left unconfirmed.

Now, as of your original reply, all I said was companies in general (this includes Xaiomi, Samsung,Apple, Oppo, etc) should be confident and sure that their product will be outstanding despite all the criticism it will get.

As of your opinion on Elon Musk, I have never heard of any mistreated worker and infact have heard of a counter point to it too. One of the time when a Russian hacker tried to install malware through getting someone in the inside, the worker literally reported him despite the millions of dollars he was given. If that was not loyalty, I don’t know what is…

    > Xiamoi are sort of in the wrong

Why is a company who worked on their product and then have it shat on right as early sales are about to start, in the wrong exactly?

Mobile market is so saturated now that there is a weeks or few months window where a new mobile version makes sales and to have that sabotaged by who knows what a influencer says doesn’t make the company wrong.

What is this guys actual qualifications other than he reviewed lots of phones for a while. That doesn’t make him a professional because there is no such thing. He is an influencer with a social media channel. 1 later order by-product of all that is it can be helpful for prospective consumers but that is NOT the primary vector of this. He ain’t some NGO or Consumer Court & Protection Review Organization setup by the Govt or something.

I have 0 sympathies for social media people who themselves make money of this stuff. Who knows who is paying him to say what, a company is in no position to arbitrate that. It is their prerogative who gets their product.

Don’t want it? Don’t buy. Simple. There are plenty of alternatives.

Its not subjective. Oled is considered to be superior technology, its been on the rise for the last 5 years, and investments to it just keep increasing. Maybe its subjective to you, but not to any tech giant.

I dont ignore what you said, but you didnt say one fact either. “People prefer IPS displays”? Show me where you get this, because you wont find a smartphone from top range without amoled display. For over 5 years all display manufacturers been increasing investments into oled and micro LED displays, while lowering investments into LCD. So you are telling me you know market better than the actual manufacturers? Or are you telling me manufacturers are investing their money into inferior technology? None of these claims makes sense and you know it.

This baffles me, If Xiaomi wanted more exposure these practices shouldn’t be followed, the only people who watch or seek out reviews are people interested in buying the products, I ordered a Poco X3 last night aside from the YouTube and a local deals website there’s been hardly any coverage of the phone or Xiaomi in general. The vast majority of people aren’t even aware the company exists, as all they see is Samsung or Apple everywhere. The more exposure Xiaomi gets weather it’s good or bad can only be a good thing

This is not top range device. Its more like Poco F2 Pro, flagship killer with corners cut. You probably never used top range device if you think mi 10t is it. Ghosting is just as big of a problem with IPS as it is with amoled. Burn in yes, happens, even tho much less than it used to. Still more expensive, more modern, better contrast, better power efficiency, thinner technology.

I don’t remember which Xiaomi phone it was but a few days ago that Linus tech tips reviewed on his second channel some new Xiaomi phone. He was very sarcastic and almost downright rude towards Xiaomi as a brand. Now that more and more are coming out saying they are boycotting reviewers based on reviews I would think he would take offence and have had prior knowledge of this. In retrospect it feels almost as if he did the unboxing just to spite Xiaomi as they seem to keep sending him review models all the time.

TechTablets was the first YouTube channel to get me into Xiaomi products. Pros and Cons were always listed but if the device fitted my needs I bought it. Honest reviews don’t damage the Xiaomi brand. Trying to dictate how their products are reviewed DOES DAMAGE the Xiaomi brand.

I’ve watched a few other YouTube reviewers last couple days reviewing the mi 10 t and having nothing but praise for it yet getting basic things wrong, like saying it has an amoled panel etc

Am I taking crazy pills? It feels like I’m taking crazy pills here.

    The relationship is as follows

A company, in this case Xiaomi, gives a loaner unit to a reviewer, in this case techtablets, for a fair review and in return Xiaomi gets coverage and sales.

I wouldn’t have bought my Poco X3 NFC if not for his review.

ALL phones have flaws, some minor, others major, take for example my X3 here’s a list of flaws

    1. The slow-motion setting doesn’t stick so you constantly have to switch it

    2. Useless macro camera that would be better as a telephoto

There isn’t a phone on the market without a flaw, pulling review videos for mentioning them will only create this narrative that phones are flawless only making it harder for xiaomi and others to sell new phones.

If the flaw was software then Xiaomi should have just said we are planning a fix.

If it’s a hardware flaw then Xiaomi should improve it in the next version.

Xiaomi phones are cheap and part of the reason is they aren’t spending millions on advertising they need these youtubers as much as if not more than the youtuber need Xiaomi.

TechTablets isn’t in the wrong for doing his job in the relationship, giving a fair review.

Xiaomi are the only ones in the wrong for wanting it to be an advert but not disclosing it as such and probably not paying ad rates.

Let’s go to his Poco X3 review to see his cons, and tell me which one of these is unfair

    * UI framerate inconsistency

    * No EIS on front facing camera

    * Low bitrate audio

    * Slightly warm under heavy load

    * IPS when others offer AMOLED

Yeah somebody shared a Mi 10T (or Pro i don’t remember much) review video that released by ShortCircuit channel. The guy was so sarcastic and sassy about the phone. He flips the phone flips the box i so irritated when i am watching it. (I can’t even finish the video) Maybe that one was a boycot.

If xiaomi is that kinda brand that shows you ads, tracks your personal informations, force the reviewers for good feedback. I am not gonna buy any other xiaomi products.

look at you defending a billion dollar corporation. He is an independent reviewer that just says things as they are. Before Xiaomi sent him review units he used to buy the phones himself. He still buys phones out of his pocket to review. He is not mkbhd. For example, the last few xiaomi releases he has asked eis to be added in the front camera. How is this bad? Supporting xiaomi here is so stupid.

All companies do this, they have final say when it comes to reviews. The only channel I know of that doesn’t adhere to this policy is Mr Mobile, but they only review flagships.

    >I don’t think you’ve ever worked for a multinational company, so yes, you’re on crazy pills.

I don’t think the definition of being on crazy is having worked with or not worked for a multinational company.

There’s an unlimited supply of channels, true, but very few who are both known enough to be trusted and not so large that they can afford to ignore a release.

    The relationship is simply

    1. Company loans a product to someone

    2. Someone gives a fair review

    3. As a result of that fair review people buy that product or not

    4. Company gain publicity and sales

TechTablets did his ‘job’ in that relationship and gave a fair review so how is Xiaomi only ‘soft of’ in the wrong? As the comment I replied said?

Xiaomi are entirely in the wrong. 100%.

Xiaomi would be in the right if the channel gave unfair reviews. Did TechTablets give an unfair review of the X3 NFC?

Nah, Xiaomi is the one losing out, not the YouTuber. If they made their phones better, there wouldn’t be a negative review from Chris. End of story.

You’ll find that most channels that can float the cost of the hardware don’t actually care. Most (reputable anyway) review outlets also don’t run their reviews past the company before publishing either.

Ah the classic. Billion dollar corporation = Wrong.
Poor innocent social media influencer making money of it = Good.

It is a private company, it has 0 obligations to provide him a free item. It is their prerogative how they want to market their product.

They are not the only company in their domain, they have to compete with other peers and given that window for sales of this item is so narrow they prioritize marketing at that stage, which is what these social media influencers mostly do.

A “Honest” review can happen weeks/months after the product comes to market as well. But then the argument becomes people won’t bother with it by then. So bloody what. Who is forcing you to buy and who is preventing this social media guy here from also buying and making a video on it with that “Honest Review”.

I have 0 sympathy for him and neutral on company because they did what is obvious, what he is doing is whining. He is not a “Professional-NGO-Review Institution” because there is no such thing in this domain.

lmao. Did you read the tweet? Xiaomi had told him they would provide a review unit, and now one week before the launch they pulled the plug. Yes he’s not the be all authority in phone reviews but he’s sure better than most of the clickbait reviewers who don’t go in depth.

We the customers need these reviewers. Look at the pc industry. Gamer’s nexus is adored by everyone because he helps us the consumers. The corporations only want one thing, our money. Sure reviewers are not charity, sure they earn money off of us. But they help us too.

I’m not about to be out here defending a multi-billion dollar company, but there’s more than one way to get a review unit and Xiaomi doesn’t have to send him a unit to review. Mind you, if they weren’t sending him review samples, he’d probably make even more impartial reviews. I watched his video and he mentions that he refuses to do sponsored content. He’s putting himself in a box and then getting pissed off at the box. I get that he doesn’t wanna come across as a sell-out but damn, be a bit flexible. Sponsored content is how Gamers Nexus can tell companies to fuck off and literally do hit piece videos without worrying about getting samples. They also know that if Nvidia or AMD won’t give them a review unit, they can get one from a supplier pretty easily before launch. MSI tried this same shit before with some UK reviewer. It’s a massive problem in the review space, but as a reviewer you just have to work around it. Have you seen how long after release GSMArena release video reviews? Pretty sure they just buy the phone when it’s available and call it a day. Quality content is quality content, and people will watch it regardless of whether it comes out before launch or not, if that’s what he’s stressed about (which it honestly seems like, because that’s 90% of the benefit of a review unit – they come before launch so you have time to do a video)

Everyone is just believing them without thinking they may be exaggerating reality, remember that we are still in a pandemic and the delay may be due to these circumstances. Before hating xiaomi remember that these are just accusations without any evidence and that the whole thing may be made-up to get some visibility or to get revenge for not receiving review units.

DISCLAIMER: I’m of course not sure of this, but just don’t hate xiaomi because they said to

Well that’s your special way of looking at it, review units are absolutely not a problem since it’s literally better in every aspect for the reviewer. You say it’s biased because he didn’t pay full price for it , but if they started paying full price for every phone they’ll soon be limited by the number of phones they can review and the exposure their videos get as the phone they’ll review after launch was already covered by other channels, review units give them the ability to make videos sooner than the rest and save money.
Any way you look at it its a dishonest strategy by xiaomi to only select reviewers that’ll literally advertise the phones instead of reviewing it. When you buy a 200 or 300$ phone you expect it to have downsides and if a “reviewer” makes a video pretending it doesn’t it just a waste of time

I’ve had a Mi9 for about a year and it’s been great. Takes decent photos, it’s fast, good display, way better in several respects than the iPhone I had previously. I haven’t bothered rooting and roming it either, it’s running Miui 12. No problems whatsoever.

Chinese smartphone companies have no ethics or respect. They are just out there to penetrate market and start to increase their profit margins. I bought two Xiaomi phones myself, and made others buy several. But they are making me doubt if I would choose another phone from them. Especially when 400$ models are getting better everyday.

Tell him that ahead of time, and I’d agree with you. I’d rather these guys just buy the phones themselves and not have to muzzle themselves. But they told him a review unit was coming and delayed, then pulled it altogether so if he wanted to buy his own unit and review it, it would be weeks later than everyone else.

This kind of practice implies the reviews you are seeing, are biased because they can only report positive things. Same thing happened to Frankie Tech.

Most of the issues Chris has been criticizing against Xiaomi is the software bugs. Phones these days are getting much more efficient and powerful, to the point where 90% of the issues are found on the software, not on the hardware, which can be fixed via software update.

Xiaomi is spamming phones in the market. Their devs are having a hard time finding and fixing these bugs on launch. If they want early reviews to be mostly positive, then they better give more time for their devs to optimize their crap.

I’m not a hater of MIUI. I actually love it. But I hate it when it takes months for bugs to be patched. Luckily, Xiaomi has a strong custom ROM support.

They didn’t give him a loaner unit because he was giving fair reviews.

If you are so worried about fair review it does kinda suggest your phone is bad.

I purchased a X3 because of his review, they seemingly wheren’t happy that he mentioned the screen is IPS.

    It’s a relationship which goes

Company gives person a product either as a loan or keep for free or cheaper, in return this person gives a review which helps sales and get publicity.

    It’s mutually beneficial.

    Companies get dirt cheap advertising

    Reviewers can review more products

Xiaomi isn’t happy about the phones being reviewed fairly, effectively they want an advert without having to pay advertising rates.

The mainstream reviewers don’t tell me anything I can’t gleen from reading the specs sheet. Reviewers like him actually give me insightful information like how well the device locks into satellites, if it has widevine support, the audio bitrate used when recording video etc.

I like to see ram management tests between devices so I can tangibly know how one device treats resources better than another. I also like when I see a reviewer revisiting a device after its received subsequent updates and see if it’s improved on such areas.

Smaller phone review channels put way more effort into their reviews and their style is more nuanced than your typical bigger channel.

Up until yesterday, people didn’t know what a Xiaomi was without channels like his putting the brand on a roadmap. It’s best they don’t piss off the people that actually support their brand as they are the ones who ultimately end up buying it.

That’s a really fair assesment that I fully agree with. He is, in an essence, limiting himself by refusing different channels that will get a device to him.

Lon sideman only reviews devices if he is allowed to do so out of his own volation; paid or otherwise. He puts a disclaimer at the start of his videos stating if it’s sponsored or whatnot. He mentions that the video isn’t prescreened by the manufacturer or people that supplied him the unit and all opinions are his and his alone.

Something like that might do well for Chris if he ever changes his mind.

They’re smaller with the subscriber base. Frankie hardly gets 50K views and Tech tablets gets higher views when he covers new releases and those are only relegated to Xiaomi devices.

The Poco X3 is very good, there’s no reason that they refuse a fair review. The Poco X3 has LCD 120hz screen with almost the same camera than the Note 9 Pro. The Ultra wide angle is better but not the macro (very poor rate of use of the camera so not needed). It has 5160mAh, 6,67″ screen and side fingerprint for a lower price than the Note 9 Pro. So the phone is very good for its price and better than the Realme 7 Pro
