So yesterday, I happened to mess around the settings in my Redmi K20 Pro. I was in the special features section and noticed a feature named Video Toolbox. It was only assigned to one app. It was Mi Video. I assigned it to YouTube and Twitch and holy flip has my content intake been a bit better.
This is basically a quick ball but for your videos. You could color grade videos(stock color grades), listen to audio only while your screen is off and have a floating window open without closing the app(in my case Youtube).
It is like a bar on either your left or right side of the screen depending on where you set it. I have a Super Amoled. So vibrant colors are a thing for me. One of the color grading(Cinematic) just makes it more pleasing.
In short, I wanted to let everyone know about this feature if you did not know about it….
Edit 1:- I am sorry for using the term Color grading as you can’t customize itas you would expect. They provide some presents(namely Original, Retro, B&W, Outdoor, Cinematic). In this case, it is like a filter almost

It is in style option. When you swipe the bar, you get the 3 rows.
1. Screenshot, screen record, audio only, etc
2. Style
3. Apps to open as floating window
When you press style, to get different filters. I called it color coding cause they make the content look so much different. The RGB values get deeper in cinematic style.
If you meant color scheming, you can find it in display settings.

If so, press the white arrow on the left top button > Press the three dots > Select floating keyboard

OK this is weird I read your post initially and thought you referred to it also removing ads. I then activated the feature and it took ads away for me on YouTube and YouTube music.
My wife also has a note 9 and I tested it on hers. Before adding YouTube to the list she had ads. We then added yt and ads are gone.

you have to activate it if you just turn off the screen it wohn’t work you can finf it under the bar at the side of your screen when you play a video

You can also force any resolution on newpipe and open videos by sharing them from the official app. It’s got pip support, screen off, download etc. I think it’s a nice addition to standard youtube

Wow what a nice find of yours! I definitely didn’t know this feature existed.. I think it comes in very handy for YouTube + locking my screen.
However I don’t see the option to do any color corrections which might be because of the region/miui location version.

Thanks OP, nice find. This even works for playing youtube on browsers – just set the browser in the video toolbox setting and it can be played screen off.

The yellow markers indicating ads on a video are there but when playback reaches it… No ad…

Yeah. When you think about it, Xiaomi did a lot for the smartphone market. They did Wifi QR share before it was thing, made good hardware phones at competitive price, and even went ahead and made a 360 degree screen phone(Mi Mix Alpha).

If you mean in floating window, then it does not pio up as a full keyboard. The keyboard lips up as a floating keyboard just like in game mode

I mean, yes. But many people dislike many things about it. For example, the iphone vibe it started giving off when the control centre was added(you cn disable it if you don’t want it). I like it personally.
Other features you will miss out on is floating window. This is a part for the above mentioned video toolbox and gaming mode.
As for your hardware, it should be fine as you are running a SD 835 which is better that the SD 665 which the Redmi Note 8 has. If you are not facing too much issues with MIUI 11 performance wise, I don’t think MIUI 12 would stand in your way. But I have heard about people facing instability after having the MIUI 12. I have none so far though
In conclusion, I would cause. But if you are someone who likes pixel experience (if so, why did you pick this?), I would not recommend as things will only get worse for you.
