Yes that’s possible. And if that is the case there is a method to revive it if letting it charge for a while doesn’t help. But it involves opening it and using another charger to charge the cell(s) inside. Which is dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing.

As shown in this video you can charge 18650’s (and probably other Lithium based batteries too) from 0V with the right charger if you’re lucky the Xiaomi powerbank might even support it and you should just let it charge for a while:

In my experience, the OG series of Mi powerbank (5200, 10400 and 16000) have a longer longevity compared to the new one. My 5200 still going strong for 6 years without any bloating issues, although it’s inconvenient for me to use now as the output is only 1.5A (I used lavender).

I’m still wonder if my 2c could last that long, seeing many units bloated after 1-2 years.

I have an iHarbort powerbank that is the Xaiomi 10000mah versions slightly dubious “twin brother.”

It’s identical in almost every way…

I left it in Nepal almost 2 years ago and as I’m a friend of the hotel owner he put it aside for me for when i came back. Two years later I arrive back in Kathmandu and get handed my powerbank.

    I push the button….

    4 LIGHTS!

    I’m still amazed now.

Yeah I like my Xiaomi battery bank a lot but I feel like Im going to upgrade after just having it over 2 years.

I noticed that my 20,000 mah greatly decreased in holding a charge despite pretty low usage.

I used to be able to charge my phone from 0-100 and it will still show 3 (or 4 lights).

Now when I charge my phone with it once, it has 1 light left

Not the same experience. My 2 year old mi powerbank 2 port is now a bit loose and can only be used when I’m sitting still, not on the go.

It’s charging also have slowed down from 15watt to 10 watt.

But that’s to be expected. I never had powerbanks on that price range to last 2 years. The last powerbank i had (asus zenpower) last me 1 year before it builds up excess heat when charging

I got my aunt the 20000 mAh xiaomi power bank in Dec 2018 but she didnt open it til… yday Mar 2020.

When i plug it in, lights dont turn on. I told her to let it charge for a whole day, hoping it wakes up from its deep sleep.

Is there a chance the battery fully discharged and is no longer usable?

I have a phone (7 years old) that doesn’t have anything between 15 and 99%, also no 100% unless charging. It always instantly drops from 99 to 15. Lasts like one hour.

Usually batteries tend to go weak if left unused for such a long time. So that can be a bad reading as well. Try using and see if it actually provides sufficient battery backup as expected.

I should point out when I say a few times a year I mean like I may use it a few times on one holiday 😛

It should be said though the last trip I went away on, was my first one using my Pocophone F1. I never once needed to use the battery banks as the battery life is just so good on that phone that it never died out on me, even using GPS and other things throughout the day.

You should Google “18650 battery” and what they are used for.

I’m still using the same 10000mah battery banks I bought from Xiaomi back in like 2015. I only use them on holiday so they get used a few times a year but still.

Li-ion cells can go for ages when they’re not use and stored. They should be charged to half for storing.
