I have been getting 40% Android system battery drain on my rn8 pro and I debloated and turned off autostart but it didn’t work, here’s what I did
I downloaded blokoda and used jerryn70 xiaomi block list and it blocked all xiaomi trackers and solved my battery drain
Sorry for the bad formating I’m on mobile
Why did no one ever told me about this!!
I can’t connect to the internet while using it, what’s the problem?
Well That sucks. Although I have decent battery life, I was hoping it worked so I could do increase it more but I guess not. I’m not into flashing ROMs and stuff, I’ll see if there’s a solution with flashing the EU rom.
Anyway, Thanks for the feedback.
If you tried it with blokada or it isnt the problem OP described you should try a custom rom. If that doesnt fix it (and there isnt any other app that drains your battery) you may have a bad/old batterie. The redmi 4a is pretty “old”. Batterys lose capacity over time. If you have a low capacity there is no software fix to undo it.
Didn’t work for me, flashed yesterday Xiaomi.eu weekly ROM and android usage is no where to be seen, much better battery life. So ye, if you still have issues with battery drain, I can recommend flashing latest weekly build. 🙂
sir I also actually have a problem my device is Redmi 4a and its battery drain is the worse its Miui 10 installed and I always have the battery saver turned on but it doesn’t affect the battery pls help
So, good or bad?
I noticed that, when rebooting my phone or when closing apps with the X button, the VPN icon disappears. Is still Blokada working in the background or not? Thanks a lot
As far as i know there is no way to remove the VPN in the statusbar as it is a security measurement (with root it may be possible). There is also a setting in blokada for keeping it active. It will give you a permanent notification but you can disable the norification and it will still keep itself activated.
It isnt a one time fix. Blokada needs to be installed and active to work.
Screen -12%
Android system – 38% LOL
Same, I’m thinking about flashing a custom rom (pixel experience or evolution x)
Using Blokada with Jerryn70. Bloody android system is still draining 35% or more on a regular basis. I guess I need to downgrade to miui 10.
Off in Android system, on in Blokada.
Egudu is right with 1 and 2
(If you need ota updates you can either disable blokada like once a month or add the xiaomi store on the no filter list. But if the xiaomi store has trackers it will get through all the time so #1 methode is preffered)
3. you dont have to use energized blue for this this trick, but i would still recommend it as it blocks alot of other usless trackes.
4. i havent noticed reduced charging time. Will test it a bit further by using a timer while charging my device.
I don’t know enough about it tbh..
Did you turn dns off or automatic?
I think I made a mistake when turning dns off in android settings because I was on adguard and I switched to automatic instead of off. Now its blocking stuff.
I wonder how much of the blocked stuff is all filtered through with just a custom dns change in android settings? Maybe over 90% of the blokada list?
It depends. Is it blocking other stuff? Because not every call back is a bad thing. It’s not meant to cut off communication with Xiaomi and Google.
Great. I kinda feel that my sot counter is rigged. Because I don’t remember spending that much time on my phone 😂
I tried it on miui 12. It kinda helped. Before blokada I had 4h SoT. Now, after using blokada I am at 5h SoT and 20% battery. It’s not “wow” but it’s a good improvement
Danke!
Y e s
Does this also work in adguard?
That would happen with any charger. If you open ampere app after charging to hundred, youll see that its still taking up current. Unless ampere says “Full”, youre battery is still charging even though the OS says 100%. That 30 minutes of light use from 100 to 99 is actually that extra hidden charge. I recommend you not doing that often as it puts stress on battery. I use custom rom and have to do that to calibrate battery reading as sometimes custom roms mess that up.
Same
Did you turn of “Energized Blu” list that was switched on by default?
I don’t understand
I enabled Xiaomi blocker by Jerryn70 in host lists but am still getting these as allowed [screenshot](https://imgur.com/a/LU7I5S7)
Is this normal? Also seeing Goodbye ads by Jerryn70 in host lists maybe I need to enable that too?
How can we stop that thing from trying to connect?
I have enabled Xiaomi blocker by Jerryn70 but I still have these as allowed [screenshot](https://imgur.com/a/LU7I5S7)
Am I doing something wrong here?
SayBenTeeth
Might as well try?
Yes, agreed. I’ve noticed some improvement. On 67% 12 hours into the day.
Yes it will, unfortunately you can’t use nordvpn (or any other) and blokada at the same time. Only one VPN connection can be enabled.
Protip : If you’re rooted then install the file via AdAway instead of blokada
Disable RCS MIUI this will maybe remove the adds also disable any setting recommendations and or 8n the systems apps turn off auto updater.
1. Maybe, just try it, a blockapp like this, or NetGuard, can be disabled easily.
2. No because this is not a “real” vpn. It just used the android vpn function to control traffic.
even though i turned them off, they still start by themselves.
> blokoda
Is this a normal VPN firewall? Then I’d use NetGuard https://github.com/M66B/NetGuard/releases – if installed via github, it also supports hosts blocklists and a lot more stuff. It does not even need a blocklist, since it simply completely denies apps access to the internet until you allow it.
If you have the paid version, you get a detailed log. Then for example you realize that SwiftKey tries to phone home every couple of minutes, see this thread where I showed this: https://www.reddit.com/r/androidapps/comments/dejhaw/swiftkey_is_constantly_phoning_home/
Sixteth😂
Fifthed?
Total noob here l. Would appreciate it very much if you could clarify some things for me.
1. Could it mess up ota updates or system app updates (I use chinese rom so have to update through xiaomi store).
2. Would it decrease my wifi speed like other vpns do?
3. Do I need to enable the “energized blu” in the list or only jerryn70 would suffice?
4. I saw 2 replies that charging time has increased for them. Is it a thing?
There is also Xiaomi under “Native tracking protection”. However I noticed that xiaomi trackers are blocked by other lists as well.
Yeah and mistat xiaomi
NextDNS allows you to add various block lists, including AdGuard’s one- so you don’t need to be running AdGuard to use their list.
The whole thing runs remotely, giving you a custom DNS server you can configure to block what you like. So you don’t need to install anything on the phone, you manage it through a web interface.
I just tried it out and the default NextDNS blocklist immediately blocked several requests to Xiaomi, doing anything on the phone seems to trigger requests to `o2o.api.xiaomi.com` and `data.mistat.xiaomi.com`.
Checking the AdGuard list, it also blocks these domains. So for those specifically, either just the default NextDNS list OR the AdGuard list will block them.
NextDNS also has jerryn70’s default Goodbye Ads list as an option, but not his Xiaomi-specific one. But it seems that at least some Xiaomi ad domains are included in other lists available on NextDNS.
NextDNS doesn’t currently allow custom lists. But they do have a substantial selection of existing curated lists.
Adguard is just a dns ad blocker. Next dns is a customisable dns and you can enable lists like xiaomi and adguard. Think of it as a cloud based blokada.
Yeah it’ll still say 40% Android system but I got 12-14 hour screen on time
For me it has to run in the background. There are a few options like “keep activ” in the settings. This may help that miui wont kill it over time. But as long as you see the VPN logo in the statusbar you are fine
I tried with Xiaomi.eu for dipper, MIUI 12 build 13 August and I now get deep sleeping and battery app report 0mA when screen off. Before, it used 100 to 173mA, or 5 to 10% battery drain PER HOUR. Now it is close to 0.
Is nextdns or adguard blocking Xiaomi trackers and analytics?
Same thing happening to my Redmi Note 9 pro
Never tried adguard
Does dns.adguard.com achieve the same thing?
I know that with Newpipe fdroid updates are sometimes delayed, but with Blockada you probably don’t need to have it up to date as much.
Really works? I’d have expect more battery drain since they would get into a retry loop. It’s great that it doesn’t happen.
Settings > Apps > Manage Apps > Find Digital Wellbeing > Disable
And how’s battery life?
Realistically speaking, how much does it improve battery life?
I’m tempted by the idea of getting more battery life, my MI 9 only has 3300 mAh.
Holy hell this is so powerful. I added adguard that I already used and its amazing and it also has native os blocking for xiaomi. The icing on the cake is the analytics. After I enabled it, xiaomi already got blocked in the first 5 minutes. Didn’t know there was such a smart dns out there. Thanks.
Edit: plus no extra apps on the phone!
Also disabling Digital Wellbeing on my phone helped with the battery
I didn’t do it because I dont know how to do it lol.. there are alot of guides on the internet but you have to unlock the bootloader first
could you link me to a good site to do that ?
i am learning as i go, but i am learning !
Faster than adguard?
Whenever I have Blokada activated and the VPN logo in the status bar, I get no data transfer whatsoever. Help?
EDIT: Fixed this myself. I was still using the built-in Android DNS configured to dns.adguard.com. Disabling this enabled Blokada to start working.
I get one every 15 seconds, goddamn mistat.data.xiaomi
i use PE+ on my mi 9t pro
I don’t use custom ROMs (not my thing), but some custom ROMs are built better than MIUI, for example no ads, new features etc… But I still like MIUI, it’s fairly simple and does the job for me.
What custom rom do you use and how is the battery life?
Not necessarily
I mean it feels smoother than custom ROMs lol
imagine using miui
You can flash pixel experience which is a stock Android rom but might not be your thing
thanks !
i am going to do this to my poco f2 i just got.
i wish it had just straight android on it.
Yes
will this work on miui 12 ?
saving
Nah
The week i had to use miui on my redmi note 7 cuz bootloader takes a 1 week to unlock, was probably the hardest time of my life. I love those smartass indian kids that are mostly running these communities, they transform the whole experience on these cheap xiaomi phones 😆😍
Blockada so far is doing An amazing job. It blocks something every minute or so from miui
I have tried to look for a solution but didn’t find one yet, lmk if you do
Okay i noticed that fast charge thing on my phone too but ive been told its a placebo. Im so confused lmao
Block ads and xiaomi trackers
Exactly what I did. Idk please tell me your results bro. Its already blocking a lot of stuff from miui that I never noticed. But battery drain is more I think
So far, when the phone is sleeping there’s almost no battery drain
But when I’m using it, battery drain is same or more
Trying it on MIUI 12, maybe it solves my Android usage as well. 🙂
Yes just noticed it now. Can I disable a specific package or app to stop this?
Appreciated
No
Samee
Unless your phone keeps trying to connect to mistat.int.xiaomi like mine every 2 seconds, might not be a huge difference
I found that turning off background activities on my apps saved a lot of battery on top of it Bluetooth will drain your battery like a motherfuker. I don’t know if anyone else has noticed this but I find that when I fast charge my phone using like a Samsung charger or whatever the charge holds less time then when I slow charge it which increases the length of battery life.
That they can start to run, either by its self, or other apps that can start or stop apps. Honestly you don’t really need apps that run automatically or turn on by themselves or have the ability to turn off or on other apps within your phone but some of the apps require auto start to function with your phone but honestly most of mine are turned off.
Doesnt need f-droid, but is recommended for updates. I wrote in the edit that it is already included
You shouldnt see any negative impact on battery. Have used it for a few years
How I solved it on my Redmi Note 5 Pro is I put brightness at 1-10% and battery doesn’t drain that much now. I can’t see stuff clearly on discord but I save battery drain right.
Yes I activated the one that comes in the app. I think it’s working fine now.
What does Blokada actually do?
I use Unlocator DNS with Blokada and it works perfectly.
Mate, it comes preinstalled in Blokada and you just activate it. OP is overcomplicating everything. You can just download it from their website without f-droid.
For me, using a custom ROM always solves my battery drain.
Can someone enlighten me what autostart mean in apps?
Could this app affect charging time? My rn8 pro used to charge from 0-100 in less than 2 hrs
Now its at 80% in 2 hrs 13 minutes
Can you please share how to do it
maybe some, since Xiaomi EU still have proprietary app from miui
Excellent! Thank you very much. Those ads are annoying me.
So this Blokada will improve battery life? It acts as a VPN when turned on. My battery life is already pretty good.
Worth keeping?
Indeed
Thank you dude so much. Do I have to do anything else like a restart and does blokada have to be running in the background?
Blokada and uBlock Origin are pretty much mandatory these days.
Is debloating analytic isn’t enough?
No it’s not the only way. Try nextdns.io
One more thing will this work on 9t pro also i don’t see ads anywhere?
Blokada uses the android VPN function to filter the unwanted domains. That is the only way to do that without root. It doesnt connect with another server, blokada creates a “local vpn” on the device.
Short answer: yes you have to allow the VPN connection
I added Goodby Ads and Xiaomi blocker, both by Jerryn70.
Still get ads showing up in Mi Music Player and the Cleaner app (both Xiaomi apps I know).
I’m pretty tech dumb. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for hinting it. I wasn’t aware that android 10 allowed setting your own DNS, now I don’t even need to root the phone.
Vpn should be enabled for this?
It’s easier to do all of this with one click through nextdns, without even installing a 3rd party app like blokada
Yes you can do it like that. I added the edit that it works like that too. At the start when i used blokada there were only a few list included with blokada
Would this even be an issue on xiaomi.eu ROMs?
Yeah it’s the same thing. The most used lists are integrated into the app now
My blokada came with that host list already present.
Thank you sir for sharing this. I already have amazing battery life, I am trying this to see if it can be improved even better
Thanks dude
Thank you!!
Excuse me I’m dumb. Do I need to paste everything in the txt file including the G O O D B Y E A D S or only the list?
100%.
I’ll not be without blokada now, such a great app. F-droid version installed here too.
The google play store doesnt allow systemwide adblockers that support hostlist. With the version on the playstore you can only change your DNS server. So it isnt possible to add the hostlist that is required for this post
Someone mentioned it above
Thanks
The blocklist he mentioned is this:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/jerryn70/GoodbyeAds/master/Extension/GoodbyeAds-Xiaomi-Extension.txt
Blokada is a DNS blocker which you can find on F-droid. Fdroid is a app store for open source apps. It is a safe place to download apps from there.
https://f-droid.org/
When you have downloaded f-droid you can search blokada and download it there.
In blokada you have to click on “adblock” (eye symbol) –> “hostlist”. At the top you have to tap “add hostlist” and then paste the first link from my comment.
If you have anymore questions just ask 🙂
EDIT: you dont actually have to use the link to the hostlist as blokada has already added the list in the app itself. So you just have to activate it.
Is there an issue with the blokada on play store?
fourthet
i got the same phone, same version, and same issue, pls explain better i need to fix it
Thirded
