How to stop AI processing of selfies?!

  • 0
  • 0

I have a Xiaomi 14 (bought a year ago) and I loved it so far but last night it suddenly started AI processing my selfies and it makes me look like a monster! It’s so obvious especially when it comes to teeth and eyebrows. And it’s even worse in dim light!

I will attach a normal photo of my teeth (that somehow it didn’t AI process) and then the rest will be the AI altered pics.

And don’t tell me it’s the AI photo feature cause the selfie camera doesn’t have that. Also, I’m not using any beauty filter.

This is insane and disgusting, what happened?? Is there a way to fix this?? Please help T.T

I’m afraid that if I use a third party camera app, I will lose the quality of the camera (idk if it can happen, never used one before)

I’m telling you that these are pictures taken by me, of me, this morning and last night respectively. The first is the normal picture (that somehow the phone didn’t add AI to it) and the other 4 got altered without my intervention, I just took them. I didn’t ask anybody to guess which are AI modified, I said it. I didn’t do any “beautifying” myself. I know very well what settings I have and everything was set to zero, bare bone camera.

I’m not trying to trick people, I’m trying to GET RID of this “feature”!

This AI sh*t is part of the processing of the photo which I don’t know if I can help, but I’m trying to see if others experienced this and to get answers about the issue

I understand everything that you say, but the thing that boggles my mind and the thing that worries me is that it *never* happened before! I’ve had this phone for a year, I know very well how it takes photos in every light condition and I checked every selfie from the past few months to see if it did this before and I didn’t notice – but nothing. Something happened this week or last week at the earliest and I don’t know what.

    Thank you for your input!

There’s this thing called Call Toolbox (‘use beautify and other features during fullscreen audio and video calls’), that is turned on by default. I think this has replaced the front camera assistant when going from HyperOS 1 to 2. To get to it type ‘call toolbox’ in the Settings search field and tap “Side toolbox’, and see if it’s enabled.

You must be joking saying that the pics 2-5 fcked up by AI look good. Or you simply didn’t understand which I said is the normal one. The first one is the normal, natural one, that shows my real teeth. The rest are literally *distorted* like any other AI generated pic, they look uncanny, wrong, UGLY, like plastic.

Maybe a software update. Those are nasty!

Also maybe use a different camera app like blackmagic?

Shouldn’t the pro mode help. Been quite sometime since using xiaomi camera but I believe the pro mode is there for the selfie cam as well. Just put the all possible setting into auto modes.

Also the 3rd and 4th pictures look like completely different people. I guess the 4th’s the beautified AI.

I have not noticed anything. I notice it when I put the X5 in the 14T Pro that the AI puts some very strange things (worse) but in what is the day to day in selfies or normal photos does not happen to me.

No what I think is regardless of whether there is the AI toggle turned off or beautify set to 0, the phone will use some processing (AI) to it anyway. I didn’t know these were day night shot, but at night since the light is limited to the camera, few things will happen, the iso will get super high and/or shutter speed will increase.

If ISO is high then the picture will have more exposure but there will be more noise, due to which I think the phone will automatically try to reduce the grains which is quite apparent on the 4th photo as one of your mole on the cheek is faded (basically the phone will reduce the noise and add some blur then increase sharpness).

If shutter speed is slowed down, there will be some blurriness visible to the image due to handshaking, so it will try to optimize the photo to reduce the blur and add some sharpening.

This is just my experience with dealing with photo edit but I think these are the steps taken by the camera regardless of whether AI feature is turned on and there might be no way around it. Except that some camera apps have pro modes that skips any processing to the photo.

But again the processing is built into image SOC in processor so even if software skips it there is always some processing anyway.
