I’d suggest googling that yourself as you’ll learn more from that than a quick summary from me.
thanks buy what is bootloader and TWRP
If you unlock the bootloader, you can install any ROM you want. Virtually all ROMs are open source, so you can check if shady shit is going on. With TWRP you can wipe your phone before installing another ROM, so there’s no MIUI intrusion anymore.
I just got a Pocophone F1 here in the UK. I dont understand anything of what you wrote but it seems important. I have never owned an Android phone before (only iOS). Would you care to explain it to me what you mean by
>If you actually care about privacy, I would do like I did with my Note 4: link the phone to you account, put it in a drawer for 3 days, unlock bootloader, install TWRP, wipe/format everything and install a custom ROM.
Updated Global ROM to 10 the other day on my Mi Mix 2. No ads until a few hours ago. Out of nowhere they started appearing on my lockscreen and notifications.
You are correct for EU users, but moving the business avoids GDPR for the majority of Facebook users (not in EU) as business is no longer registered in EU, for legal but is for tax purposes.
Yeah, I still haven’t found out why certain people get ads and others don’t.
Or custom miui room, like xiaomi.eu
Doing the msa and deamon I am not able to toggle them off since I am getting, unable to revoke access any help?
Is everrything working fine? What about Mobile Data and Portrait Mode on the Camera?
Same here. Mi Mix 2S on MIUI 10 in the USA.
I’ve never seen an ad on the Mi A2
another one! 😀
Is this for A2 as well?
Generic data collection by Xiaomi can’t be turned off. You agree to it when you set up your phone.
Thank you so much!
But I don’t know if it’s in this link or the other one posted somewhere else, but there is a method to switch off an option to prevent that as well…
Just don’t update to anti rollback 4
It’s still better than using MIUI…
MUST WAIT FOR 29 DAYS 😭😭😭😭 (phone arrived yesterday)
Regards
P.
And how exactly is that avoiding GDPR? They still have to abide by it for EU users.
Hmm yes fair enough. Samsung and apple I’ve never been fan of either. Usually stick with lineageOS, not specifically cause of privacy but because it’s so easy customisable and stock android. It’s more the apps I use for privacy but most need root anyway.
Thanks for the info. It’s hard this day and age if you’re privacy concerned..

Because most people installing LOS don’t just do it for the ads alone. MIUI in general is intrusive and will collect buttloads of data (more than other OEMs).
You can be sure MIUI/Xiaomi cares a lot less about your privacy than OEMs like Samsung and Apple for example. Just read their privacy policies and compare. If you actually care about privacy, I would do like I did with my Note 4: link the phone to your account, put it in a drawer for 3 days, unlock bootloader, install TWRP, wipe/format everything and install a custom ROM.
Just tried. Worked.
To everyone who’s been saying install LOS, how’s the battery life compared to MIUI? I mean, I am not saying having ads is better than lower battery life, but if we can keep the battery life of MIUI and get rid of ads thru OP’s method, what’s the problem?
I have just ordered a pocophone, I wanted to give MIUI a chance as I’ve never used it before. Usually I’m pretty privacy concerned and usually end up rooting and flashing a new rom.
Now, I would like to try this MIUI out of the box (just the debloating).
Should I be concerned about any privacy issues apart from the usual regarding a mobile phone running on android?
You can’t avoid GDPR by changing your address. That’s not how it works. Every company interacting with EU citizens has to comply with GDPR, that’s why some websites block EU users.
I have global ROM on mi note 3 (9.6?) in EU and get ads but not themes. Had redmi 3 with China ROM , had themes and no ads, was miui 7. GDPR is difficult, I seriously doubt all themes/launchers on Google play store are compliant?
I also notice Facebook changed their address to California, was previously in Ireland, to avoid GDPR
Mi Mix 2 global version
standard global rom nothing custom at all just straight out of the box and using it
UK
never seen an ad?!?!
Much better idea than trying to fix this shit.
That’s because the theme store isn’t GDPR-compliant, which says a lot about Xiaomi handles your privacy outside of the EU.
I don’t know exactly… but I never got ads and I’m in the EU, I also can’t access the theme store from the EU.
I tried it twice but it didn’t work. So I closed the settings and retried it. It worked then. I have a Redmi note 5 Pro.
You tried twice consecutively as the author said in comments?
I’ll try it later in my Redmi Note 5 plus.
Install lineageOS
Something I’ve yet to get an answer on, but do people in the EU region not get ads due to GDPR?
Turned off everything. Although the revoking MSA didnt work. I get a toaster stating, “revoke failed”.
Heaven sent
