I’m still rocking the Redmi Note 3. It’s lasted longer than any of my other phones which is funny because I bought it as a cheapo as I was tired of spending a lot of money on a phone only to have it deteriorate.
In the past three years I’ve had this phone I’ve had
– yellow burn-in in spots on the LCD
– the power button has to be pressed in very hard for it to register
– the sides of the phone are a little bent and out of shape.
Other than that the phone is the same as before. My charging port hasn’t gotten all loose (I’ve had that with so many phones), my headphone jack still works fine, the camera hasn’t been scuffed up etc.
So what’s your experience? Honestly I never expected it to last this long. I thought I’d be getting a new phone about a year ago but now I’m going to use this one until it’s completely broken.
My Redmi Note 6 Pro is 5 years strong. Bought in 2018 still alive in 2023.
It’s been 3 years with my redmi note 9 and everything that changed was the facts it takes longer to download than before and it takes a little bit more time to chargé and little bit less time to discharge, it’s laggy with some games with roblox since I ever got it altough it works fine with games with better graphics for some reason, other than that nothing much changed, it works fine and there it literally never breaks or get damaged
MiNote owner since early 2016. I cant wait for it to breakdown, so that i can buy a new phone! LOL
i bought a mi5x in August 2017. its totally fucked and near its deathbed. its gone through 2 screens and batteries and is at the stage where it randomly resets 2/3 times a day and the battery barely lasts 5/6 hours
Mine is still working since 5 years
Bought my Redmi Note 3 Pro in November 2016. Works just fine save for a few problems that popped up:
1. Power button became difficult late last year, needed extremely hard presses. Took it to a repair shop and they replaced a metal part underneath the button. Now it works like new.
2. After a ton of drops and a couple screen protector replacements, screen finally cracked at the top left.
3. USB port gradually got looser and looser until no cable could work without forcing it to angle upwards. I cleaned out the lint inside just to be sure, still loose.
4. As a result of 3, charging was clumsy and irritating leading to complete battery discharges so many times; battery performance then declined significantly. Eventually replaced the USB port but I wish I had done it sooner.
Redmi Note 3 pro for 3+ years. Still going strong even though it’s bent and screen is a bit cracked. Waiting for Pocophone F2/Redmi SD855
It will be 17 months this May since I bought my Mi A1. Overall it’s a very sturdy phone. I dropped it at least a dozen times: the display is unscathed and I only have scratches on the metal edges of the body. Performance-wise is still almost a s good as it was in the beginning. I started seeing some sluggishness but I think I can use it least until the end of the year. Redmi Note 7 pro is not coming here so I see no viable reason to upgrade just yet.
Redmi Note 5A Prime
13 months, and i had to change battery. That being said, its completely my fault, i kept playing games on my workplace all day long, usually always plugged onto powerbank.
Screen is shattered but that is my fault also.
Might change phone soon, or just screen not sure.
I bought Redmi Go to my mom and i hope she will use it for couple years.
Also where can i order original front panel cheapest?
Redmi Note 3 Pro, since launch as a work/burner phone.
Had battery bulge from August-February, but went to Mi Store in Taipei and got full battery replacement for free, so will continue to be used for the specific purposes.
Battery so far? Subjectively, very good. In the sense that, I don’t worry about charging it throughout the day and I’m confident it can make it off the charger in the morning and back into it at night with plenty of juice left.
The best thing about it is its so cheap that if it lasts a year that would be a huge win already.
how’s the battery on your mi 8 lite , im Very skeptical that it will be reliable after a Year
Using note 3 for almost 3 years, 2016 flash sale,
Just got my note 7 pro last week just because I want to upgrade, but no other reason
Unlike OP I face no problem with my device . To be precise there are not even any scratches on my screen.( Just so you understand the state of my phone)
Actually it is still working fine, I just use it for videos as well as some light games
Global Stable 10.2.1.0 as of now. No heavy gaming; just some video streaming from Wi-Fi or mobile data.
After giving the wife my Mi5, I bought the Mi4C and both phones are still going strong after three years plus. I don’t think the Mi4C battery lasts as long as it did but it still does what I want, when I want. And the size is perfect. In fact, I’ve been looking at potential upgrades but can’t find many 5 inch screens which are as good. Any suggestions for quality 5 inch screen phones??
2 plus years with my Mi 5
My other phones have absolutely no problems. Your power button might be good as you’ve not used it much but after a few years every Redmi phone I’ve used and seen have mushy power buttons. The low quality power button is a cost saving measure.
I have been using a Redmi 4 (with a Spigen case) since August 2017, and its power button is still tactile, maybe because I used to use the “Long-press Recents button” gesture for a long time to turn off the screen. (But, now I use it rarely.)
Also, I think, it is normal for a power button to get mushier or fail with time irrespective of the brand, since it is mechanical and people generally use it a lot. I have even seen power buttons falling off after 2-3 years in many phones, mainly in Motorola and few local brands.
Let me just produce my list of Xiaomi devices and the period of longtivity.
1.Redmi Note 4g -3 years untouched by any service center.
(Sold it out) Switched over to
2.Redmi Note4 X-2 years + already still going strong..
Besides
3.Mi Pad1 Tegra- nearing 5 years and recently changed it’s Battery
No other problems whatsoever.
Adding to this I have always loved to unlock the bootloader and experiment different custom roms over the Xiaomi devices..
And All the above mentioned devices have handled everything perfectly..
Thinking to switch to Redmi note 7 pro this time..😀👌👌👍
Don’t think so, but literally everyone I know who uses an old Redmi phone have broken power buttons (Including me). There are also other posts in this subreddit of people who still use RN3/RN4 today and they all have issues with their power button. Looks like Xiaomi cheaped out on this crucial thing.
I’ve heard Redmi line is only experiencing broken power buttons (also had this prob). Are there any other Xiaomi phones facing this problem?
Also my problem. Broken after a year of use but replaced its power/volume button strip, now it’s working.
Nice, thanks, I’ll definitelly give it a go 🙂
Edit: another user said its quite slow on R4 can you confirm?
Well Mi Mix 3 has survied 3 months so far, and Redmi 5 Plus has been 8, and noticed no battery deterioration or slowdowns at all so far, both seem to actually improve with each MiUI update, so that’s a plus. Will hopefully be able to say the same another year on, but the price of the phones allows a yearly upgrade cycle anyway so even if not I’m fine, but hearing good things about the longevity makes me hopeful they’ll last s bit longer than that anyway, especially with the Mix 3’s build quality anyway
I believe [dragon-tt](http://dragon-tt.com/Products.aspx?sid=168) sell original parts.
I’ve seen multiple people report FP problems on the mido in the past, but luckily, I haven’t had any issues with my FP sensor, not hardware ones anyway.
I mod my devices a lot, and FP used to break on every reboot in the first few builds of Android Pie custom ROMs, but it was eventually resolved.
Lucky You, my FP has a big gash combined with my clammy hands they don’t want to work
if you have a pile of dirty clothes and just put a clean rag over it to hide it
it wont solve your problem.
Thanks man!
Pretty good for daily use, the camera and the battery is solid, perfect phone for $200. If you want a budget gaming phone, buy Mi 8 SE instead. It have way better GPU than Redmi Note 7. (I have Redmi Note 7 non pro version a.k.a. the SD660 one, not the SD675.)
Mi 8 SE uses SD710, and at least have 1.5x better GPU than SD660. (on synthetic benchmark.)
Try a 3rd party launcher (Nova is widely recommended) and check the wiki for settings fixes. Works wonders…
I don’t even use it to unlock the phone anymore. It’s very difficult to get it to hold properly without registering multiple presses.
I use the FP sensor to wake, three finger swipe to screenshot.
Is that true? Mine does the same thing but I just brushed it off because the case is bent around it after sitting on it my bed
2 year Mi 5S going strong, changed the battery just for good measure and i’m planning to keep it for a while
Had my Mi A1 since January 2018 and its working great.
9 months with Redmi Note 5.
During this time:
– Camera lenses broke cause I smashed it with a backdoor of a car. Repair cost: $10
– Second display got destroyed during my fight with some drunk asshole. Repair cost $30
– vibro died due to unclear reasons. Repair aroun $5
– Display got smashed during an attempt to feed an elephant an film it at the same time. Repair – nah, I am done. Bought RN7 a week ago.
I am slightly disappointed in modern Redmi reliability. I once had Redmi 3s and it perfectly survived after falling from the fifth floor on an asphalt (I was smoking at the balcony, while chatting to a friend, maybe a little drunk). Afterwards Redmi 3s only had a big scar on the bottom, but worked perfectly.
I have been using my Mi5 since February 2016. The only problem I had: volume buttons stopped working in December 2018 and the power button fails sometimes since January 2019.
My Mix 1 is ~ 26 months now. I’m starting to notice the battery’s annoying me – running around 5 hours SoT nowadays.
On some devices, yes but even then after a few years the power button goes bad.
tbf, the same has happened to me in different android phones and even similar issues in the desktop app for years. I think their software just sucks
Mi6 here, going strong on its way to 2 full years. The only phone that I hung on to for 2 years was the ancient Nokia 5800. I feel this one is gonna beat that easily.
No issues, still quick and responsive, really great piece of kit. Sporting havoc os on it.
My wife’s Note 4x has passed the 2 year mark already completely stock, has a yellow spot on the screen, the glass is cracked and apart from that is becoming increasingly slow. It has never been reset even after all the miui updates. She’ll need a new one soon and a new Xiaomi or Redmi phone will take its place surely.
Do you use it without a case that covers the button?
Redmi note 5A. Since Jan-Feb 2018, so like 14-15 months.
No big deal, but I should have picked one model with more than 16GB of storage, as I had to stop playing PUBG and big games because of storage limits.
Performance wise, it does feel less fluid than on the first months sometimes, but is still super fluent and perfectly usable, never had an app close itself because of lagging.
Battery perfect, shorter life than at the beggining too, still stands 8 hours of redditing and 12 hours ON, and I tortured it by playing PUBG while quick charging, which made it get burning hot.
mi max, 3 years
Battery reached its lifespan. Always gone to 0% when reach 30%. $10 fixed it.
Accidentally broke power button, $1 fixed it.
Sourced from AliExpress and Taobao.
Don’t get me wrong, OnePlus makes great devices, but there’s stuff that doesn’t work quite well, like Bluetooth which randomly disconnects or refuses to re-connect to already linked devices. Gps/compass is also less reliable that my Mi Note.
Xiaomi mi5 2 years and 2 months, still strong, its a bit slower, but still good.
Almost 3 years, worked fine until an update on March, the battery started to drain fast, and now it’s getting slower and slower…
Will probably change this summer, but I really liked this phone and I’ll miss it a bit for sure ^^
3 years on redmi note 3. Had to change to poco f1 cos i lose a bet. Rn3 has experienced open heart surgery, still working fine. No regrets though, im sure this f1 will last twice as long
> Having a hard time to keep up with Spotify.
what do you mean with that?
Have my Mi A1 since about October 2017 if I’m not mistaken. I don’t have absolutely any reason to change it, only issues are battery lasting a bit less (normal) and the power/volumes buttons are a bit tricky, but that’s it. And I’ve dropped it a lot of times in concrete and stuff (with case luckily). The only reason I’d change the phone in the short/mid term is further battery deterioration and to have something with better cam
Redmi Note 4 that’s exactly 2 years old this month. Still works as good as new, although the camera is showing its age. Battery still gets me 8-10 hours SoT easily. I don’t play games on my phone and mainly use it to stream video with some social media and light browsing.
I also got the RMN3pro except it’s mint condition.
The only defect it has is that the tempered glass protector cracked but you have to look for the crack to see it.
I want to upgrade but I really have no good reason to do it.
20 month old Redmi Note 4 still running good and still gets 10+ hours of SOT. The USB port is a bit loose tho
Screen has got burn in of the status bar
Mine also did around 6 mos ago I think but I’m not in the mood for a new phone and bought a repair kit and pow/vol button strip and fixed it myself.
i have rn3p since September ’16, it’s good, the battery shut’s down at 40% when it’s cold, used cases all the time, because aluminium body is too slippery for me, it seems like power button starts to fail, also little bending is noticeable around sim card slot, no yellow spots noticed so far, i wouldn’t need to change it, but i cheaped out and bought 2GB version and using it now is a bit painful, now i’m looking for about $250 nfc enabled phone with at least snapdragon 6xx and 4GB ram
AOSP Extended is the most actively supported ROM – more than LOS surprisingly – and it’s pretty damn stable.
Both me and my GF are still using a Redmi Note 4X, both bought in April 2017.
They’re still in really great shape. The one my GF uses basically still looks brand new, everything still working perfect and no scratches. Mine has 1 scratch in the top right corner and other than that also still in mint condition.
Both batteries are still pretty good, still reaching close to 2 days of use.
Currently 1d 1h 7m on battery with 3.5h SOT with 51% left (Wifi + GPS always on)
I’ll probably switch to a Redmi Note 7 soon (or maybe Note 8 if that get’s released any time soon :P)
Using Redmi note 3 for about 1 and half year now. Have to say the performance is decent.
My Redmi 4X (Santoni) is almost 2 years this July with no problem except battery slightly drain faster, although now is used by my sister. I moved to Poco F1
How is your experience with Redmi Note 7? I’m planing to buy it strictly for mobile gaming.
2 years as maximum… Mi5 ended up with burned screen and rn Redmi Note 5 Pro the same…
Using redmi 2 prime for 4.5 years needs battery replacement now but still relevant and the best thing is this old thing can still run pubg and is actually playable
My redmi note 3 has purple burn in at bottom of the screen ( you can barely see it at pitch black backgrounds), replaced charging port because i charged with mi powerbank on custom os,headphone jack need kernel fix but still going strong with no bents or dents for 2+ years. I thought about getting the note 7 pro, but I’m actually glad i didn’t because of the hiccups it has. Maybe pocof2 or mi a3 will be my next phone, maybe the rumored redmi flagship.
Mi5 pro. About 24 months. Changed the baterry with 18 months, for a Nohon brand.
Now I thinks about changing the usb port, since most of my cables are loose when chargin the phone. Other than that, the phone is perfect. Running xiaomi.eu still…
My 31 months (2 years and 7 months) Redmi 3S Prime (land) is still working quite well with Pixel Experience.
Tried pixel experience. Its fking great
I would suggest compressed air spray, it’s safer, the toothpick might damage something.
You on stable or developer ROM? I’m on developer + rooted, so that might affect the battery life. I use mine kinda heavy with gaming sessions and long music streams.
2nd year on my mi A1 and it’s still in perfect condition and surprises me everyday. Ngl it’s the cheapest phone I’ve ever bought, but the best I ever had, the performance is outstanding, I love it so much
I’m using Redmi 4X since may 2017 without any issues on stock MIUI 10.3
Same here, 22 months old. Got it back in Jun’17. Damn beast of a phone.
My Xiaomi Redmi 2 (yes, THAT old one) lasted 5 years (2014- 2019) before I finally switched phones.
By the end, I literally needed to bring a power bank with me every where I go. It’s max battery life by 2018 onwards was 3 hours tops, and that’s even with airplane mode and light usage…it just dies in the background
The power button was wonky and it ran very slowly; Instagram could took a minute (60 whole seconds) to load a video/story. Facebook was impossible and Twitter likewise lagged but only a little bit.
Playing games (I played Dokkan Battle mostly) would heat it up very fast and by an hour the phone would die and I use to charge it again.
Camera was crap, low quality snaps and Instagram uploads.
But tbh, I managed to and would’ve likely continued to live with this for a year or more (until the battery literally couldn’t sustain more than an hour) because I wasn’t too fussed about all that. I just needed it for Whatsapp and the occasional social media check in.
The only reason I wanted to switch to a new better phone was because I was going to attend Blackpink’s concert and wanted to ensure good quality videos and photos HAHA
Am now using Pocophone F1 and I LOVE it. It is SO worth it considering the price and how good the phone is at that price.
How about battery ?!? I really concern about this matter before I switch to Xiaomi. Sick of paying 1k+ for a phone already.
Never had any hardware issue with their phones. I’m on my third one. Only problem I had was with the mi5 after 2.5 years the battery was getting pretty bad. I was always fast charging it and I think that’s part of the issue.
My Mi3 lasted for over 3 years. I sold it to a co-worker. Nowadays I upgrade every year, sticking to Redmi products.
Redmi Note 4x.
Using it for 2 years now. Recently updated to pixel experience ROM. Running smoother than before.
Looks like Xiaomi phones have pretty crappy power buttons. Even my old Redmi Note 4’s one stopped physically clicking, and lots of people have complaints with many devices.

Did the storage flash degrade? Run androbench and share the result.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andromeda.androbench2&hl=en
Examples of good/poor speed:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/help/extremely-slow-storage-laggy-performance-t3784194
Redmi 1s failed early on. It felt too slow and I think the emmc storage degraded sharply.
It was supposed to get MIUI 10, but seems like Xiaomi has stopped beta support on it. However, one can flash MIUI 10 based EU ROMs on it.
Been using mine for 2 years now running on stock everything.
Everything is working fine, however been running into slow downs lately with the phone and the battery definitely doesn’t last as long. Other than those, it’s been a very good run with it. Got my wife the note 6 recently (she is horrible with technology, and phones don’t last long with her…. So we will see if it’s durable too). Looking to upgrade mine to the note 7 this summer when I visit Hong Kong.
1 year with my mi a1
I bought a Xiaomi Mi 3 in Nov 2014, it is still up and running perfectly, minus shitty battery backup. (Worst part is I just can’t find a legit battery replacement for it)
Right now holding a Mi Mix 2, will be 2 years this Nov, and I am sure it can survive another year or so. (My only concern will be the battery backup & no proper battery replacement available when I am gonna actually need it)
Xiaomi 4i, MIUI used the entire time. (Honestly liked MIUI up until they started adding ads)
Slowing down significantly so I’m probably buying something new this year, but it’s been very reliable.
Never had to replace anything and I used to drop it a lot. Only have a tempered glass screen protector on it now. Used to have a case but it seems to have heating issues in prolonged use so I took it off.
Hopefully my next phone has a similar form factor.
I got my Mi 4 on March 2015, so 4 years and 1 month because I’m writing from that same phone. The problems are:
1) The battery now is at 50% capacity, meaning that on a weekend I have to charge it twice. While on a workday, I stay on it much less so I usually get to 8 pm with some battery left which lasts a Max of 2 hrs.
2) yellow spots on the screen come and go on this lcd. Now it has none, which is nice.
3) For some reason I can only hear from the right headphone, so something happened to the Jack.
4) I think the reason the battery is shit is because the singal and reception are always bad unless I’m outside and not with many buildings surrounding me.
5) the charging port feels like it has been raped by horses. I have to be very careful how I put the charger in and have to put my phone down very still for it not to disconnect. I have woken up so many times to 5% battery and hated my phone lol.
6) The camera feels much worse, especially since phones have progressively had much better cameras since the Mi 4 was released.
Apart from that, this phone hasn’t lost much performance. At least in day to day usage compared to what I had before! That’s the only reason I haven’t changed it. It doesn’t just stop working. No lag. Everything runs smooth and I’m on MIUI 10, even though it stopped getting updates about 7 months ago.
I’m pretty sold on the Mi 9, just waiting for it’s price to go down considerably or if I get a bonus xD. I would’ve gotten the Mix 3 (I like the design much better), I’m just super worried about it breaking with a couple falls. My Mi 4 has fallen so many times, and it’s still running, I think it’s because it’s body is pretty solid. Not sure if the Mix 3 would have the same resistance with the slider…
I don’t know when but at some point my Redmi Note 5 became super slow, the battery lasts a day but that’s only around 3 hours of screen on time, mostly YouTube, no gaming.
2.5 years with mi max 1 only replaced battery, 4 months with mi max 3. I mostly use my mi max 1 to play games and media consumption now but it works great
Mi4: 5 years and 6 months. So proud of it. I just bought a RN7.
Redmi Note 1LTE still working like a charm,
Niantic however phases out 4.4 kitkat around July
so it’ll be retired technically, since custom ROMs like MK or RR with 7.2 android are blocked by Pokemon Go
🙁
Redmi note 5 plus. 6 months. The headphone Jack and charging port stopped functioning.
Redmi note 4 with Pixel Experience. Never had any issue 😀 battery is still awesome.
I’ve had the Redmi Note 3 pro since August 2016 and it’s still going way better than one could ever expect at this point. Only issue is of course the battery, but that’s on me because I don’t want to change it.
I just bought the Redmi Note 7 yesterday for an upgrade, sad to leave the best phone I’ve ever used
Wtf?? I’ve also got the Redmi Note 3 (Pro) and I have the same exact problems. The sides are bent as if they were made that way, and the buttons on the side can’t really be pressed with one finger
16 months Mi A1.
Many many falls, some scratches here and there, battery not so good (Data/by always on and much screen high brightness tho) but still skyrockets. I want to upgrade to Mi 9 very badly mainly for camera, but to be honest, I’m waiting for a monster deal because my pal right here in my hands looks like it’s willing to stay
downgrade? really?
Redmi Note 3 SE since October 2016… The phone I’ve had the most.. it has issues, I sat on it, opened to fix something with the microphone, but still good.
Well, she actually uses her phone a lot for non gaming stuff too, she always has some call going, a ton of texts, emails, etc. But when they isn’t happening, some shitty game is going on for sure. She also doesn’t mind running videos or ads for extra coins/diamonds/whatever shit currency for micro transactions. She refuses to spend actual money though but the thought of wasting time runing ads on purpose kills me a little inside. Fucking mobile pieces of cash grabbing shit.
My first Xiaomi was a Mi 4 (bought it like the first month it was available) and it was in such a good condition when I decided to upgrade\* that I gave it to my mom, who still uses it everyday. She loves the camera and the performance is better than what she needs. She needs to charge the battery every night though.
Only con is the GPS which is acting kinda slow now and makes the phone pretty hot relatively quickly.
\*I bought the Mi Note 3 by the end of 2017 but my wife “stole” it from me, so now I use the Mi Max 2 that was originally her phone.
I have a Max 2 too and battery is as good as new. I can run it for two days and few hours extra and battery will drop to no less than 20% with moderate use. EDIT I bought it day one
I’m rocking a Mi5 that I’ve had for two years, five months, running on Syberia Pie. I bought one in Indonesia the same time as Mum, hers bricked in January and replaced with a Redmi Note 6 Pro. It seems looking at the below the Mi5 is one of the least reliable Xiaomi phones long term. But fingers crossed it keeps going strong until the Mi Mix 4 comes out.
my mi one its still works sure battery its not that good and everything its slow
Mine is 24 months old and I have the same problem.
Max 2 user here since December 2017! Still going strong, battery life isnt as good as it used to be but the phone itself runs just fine.
I literally have the same problems with my redmi 5 plus and i have it since the first day it came out. My dad still uses a redmi 4x,also first day of release, same problems. Generally both don’t stutter, and they both behave the same. I’ll use mine until i can afford a pocophone, which will be the runner for the next 2 years
Had an Mi 5 for two years aprox. until someone stole it during a concert.
Rocking the Redmi Note 4x for the past 20 months now. Still nothing to complain about it’s in almost brand new condition. Will definitely keep it for 6 more months or so or even more if nothing really new comes up in the budget market.
Redmi Note 3 (Snapdragon) since july 2016
I’m trying to keep it as good as possible, but it’s struggling a bit
Your wife’s usage sounds like most people in Hong Kong (have two phones, both gaming, one is always being charged by a powerbank)
2 years 8 months and still going strong, not even a single scratch, I hope it lasts for another full year.
its been a year with my redmi note 5 pro no issues ,excpet i stepped on it and had to replace the rear backplate because my camera glass shattered but the screen is still intact
I bit less than two years since i got my Redmi 5 Plus, and the only issue so far is the power button who needs to be solicitate much more than before for it to Work correctly
My previous phone redmi 1s lasted for 3½ to 4 years, now I am using mi a1 it have been almost 1 year and let see how long it last.
The wifi on my xiaomi redmi 4x gave out just months (maybe 2?) after I bought it. I vowed to never buy one again but I relented to the mi 8 lite because of its great value. I’ve been using it for 3 months now, here’s hoping it lasts…
same, my note 3 se is still going strong after 2+ years, money well spent to say at least. 🙂
Exactly my experience. Just totally bricked in my pocket randomly last week.
Same, note 4x, 18 months, still running well even after bananaing it in a car door, glass didn’t even crack. Still planning to upgrade soon.
A friend is using my old note 3, battery life is a bit worn but still serviceable.
Still on note 3 pro
Edit: 3 years
I used a Mi 5 for 3 years, it only had battery problems, but I think it’s snap 820 fault, I sold it to someone who told me that the screen magically broke in two days of usage but I don’t believe. Now I’m using a Mi 8 SE for 8 months and in the last updates of beta the system became a little unstable, but that’s likely to be fixed soon. I’m waiting for my Mi 9 arrive and will give the Mi 8 SE to my brother.
My Note 4 has its power button press twice or more in a single press.
It’s also got some scuffs on its back, and the screen has tiny microscratches.
Today I replaced my Mi5 with a new Mi9. As much as I love the Mi9 and it’s a huge upgrade, I feel a little guilty putting down the Mi5. It’s still a great phone and totally usable in 2019.
Had a redmi note 4x (mido) for about a year, and abused it hard and dropped it a lot, the back was loose and fell of a lot and the bottom of the glass was cracked and falling off, it still works fine and the usb port was wonky at times, I liked it for the low price and custom ROM support but now I switched to mi mix 2s because I wanted NFC and usb type-C
Redmi note 3 se lasted me 2 years, back was all chipped and damaged but the screen was unscratched, then the power button started not responding half the time and I got a good deal on a Huawei P10 plus so I upgraded
Redmi Note 3 Pro since May 2016. 3 years and still operating smoothly with stock MIUI.
I have this now for almost 2.5 years. It is a good phone, except that the battery is dying. I plan to get Mi9 on the price drop(which will not be so soon), or Pocophone like you
Got mu first Xiaomi a year ago. Still works great. I hope it will continue to be good to me for at least another 2 years. I’m done paying more than 400$ for a phone.
Redmi note 3 pro here, still perfectly usable. Decided to upgrade for a flagship tho
5 years. Xiaomi Mi2S with enhanced 3100 mAh battery (BM30). Broke the screen in the first year, replaced it with non-original copy and it’s been working since.
No 🙁 I had a brief look online and couldn’t find it. Officially, there is no more support for MI3/MI4. Miui9 was the last update.
Got my Redmi Note 2 in October 2015. I bought it for preety much the same reason as OP. My Galaxy S4 screen just died after it randonly cracked internally and warranty wouldn’t replace it. Searched for the cheapest phone I could find and this was the one. Also the phone that lasted me the most.
I replaced it in October 2018 because I wanted more performance (it was still fine for smaller games and general day-to-day use, but I wanted something beefier for some bigger games) and the battery wouldn’t last more than 4-5 hours, also the 16GB of storage started to be way too small. The plastic back cover is cracked and scratched to hell, but no other physical damage.
It’s still alive, if my current phone dies unexpectedly I can use it as a temporary replacement.
My wife still has a redmi note 3 for like 4 years or more now, i lost count. I gave her a redmi note 5 to replace it but instead she’s now using both, one for each sim card (work and personal). They both are dual sim but she doesn’t like using both in one so she uses both instead.
The rmn3 has a shitty silicon transparent flexible case and a tempered glass. The case very yellow and old looking, the tempered glass is kinda shattered, the metal frame is slightly bent from a falling a shitload of times and it’s slightly scratched from use. No joke, that phone falls almost every day somehow, sometimes small distances to a carpet, sometimes it’s far more grim. But that fucking thing still works as new. When it arrived i flashed some miui8 rom with my language (portuguese), i can’t remember which one it was exactly. I never touched it again. No updates (except for google play apps), no factory resets, nothing. It still as fast as the first day. She uses it A TON, she plays shit mobile games a lot. Battery still easily lasts a whole day of usage if she doesn’t play (just a ton of calls, texts, facebook, etc). If she plays, she needs to charge it twice a day (she spends hours playing). No yellow screen (and it’s surprisingly not broken behind the tempered glass), no burnins, no touch issues, nothing is sluggish. It’s a fucking tank and It. Just. Works.
The rmn5 is pretty much more of the same. Hard plastic rubberized case, tempered glass. She broke the temp glass in just a few days, of course, but the screen behind it is untouched. Phone battery lasts longer because it’s newer. She also plays on this one, she switches to whatever has more battery at the time.
Both will continue to work until they die, which i don’t see it happening any time soon. I recommend them to anyone. If they survive my wife, short of throwing them against a wall on purpose, they will survive pretty much anything.
Redmi 4x for 18 months. Everything works like it’s brand new, only has a few scratches on the back.
Still Rocking The Redmi Note 4G for past 3yrs!
Redmi 1s
Bought it on the day of launch for my uncle… I am still using it as secondary device
Mi 5, lasted 4 years but the battery lasts only half a day or so
Actually, I just recently wanted to post a pic from my Note 4X(mido) and what SoT I get after year and a half of usage with lots of 2% discharges. I tried AccuBattery for 3 weeks and it estimated that my battery capacity is 86% or about 3580mAh. I tried LOS for a very long time and now I’m on Pixel Experience for less than a week. I usually got around 8h+ on LOS and now magically I get 9h+ on PE or ~8.5h with 30% battery left, no Magisk whatsoever. I’m 90% on WiFi and I’m on LTE network. I had a habit while I was on LOS to use only 2G network because I’m mostly home and only LTE+data when I’m out, but I didn’t do that on PE. It’s really odd how can i get such a good SoT with relatively old phone/battery.
I don’t have any consequences with something not working or half working or anything like that, absolutely nothing.
It been 2.3y since I got my Note 4.
Broke my screen twice. The sound deteriorated for few days. But it got back to normal without me doing anything. No other hardware or software issues.
Mi3, almost 5 years and still smooth as new.
My MiMax will turn 3 years this August. Volume buttons and proximity sensor don’t work. Battery life has reduced but the phone hasn’t slowed down. It continues to perform well.😎
I’ve lost my rn3pro under the tree while running after 2 years of shitty 2 gb rom experience (bad choice) but it was in the good state for that quite long time. I used custom rom so that dude that found it managed to enter in twrp and format all of my data and install some rom lol.
Still using my Mi 5 & Mi Pad.
My Redmi 1s would also be running if my sister didn’t mess it’s buttons and all. Didn’t bother to repair it
PS: Also has Poco F1, which I bought on the second sale.
I’m about to get a new xiaomi and I’ve been wanting to refurbish my note 4x and make it my dads backup phone. Aaand since it’s not going to get anymore support would you recommend i run Havoc on it?
Most of the time loose charging port is due to dust in the port. Take a sharpened toothpick and clean it
– Mi 5: Bought in April 2016, passed it on to family after a year. Still working fine. Battery degraded by about 30%, might replace it soon.
– Mi 6: Bought in April 2017, really heavy usage for two years. Also working fine, battery degraded about 20%. Upgraded to Mi9 a month ago.
Actually, I didn’t “need” to upgrade by any means since the Mi6 is still very fast, considering it’s 2 years old now. Also ROM support is great. But the Mi9 looked so good, I couldn’t resist. 🙂
So 3 years and counting, I’m confident the Mi5 will do 4 years.
Redmi Note 3 Pro, 3 years and counting.
Mi Mix 2S. I’ve had it for over a year with no issues whatsoever.
The vibration of my redmi note 5 pro seems to be failing
Xiaomi mi4i for 3,5 years almost 4 then i got a poco in 2019. Only replaced the battery once. It still works fine i just wanted a newer phone with more performance.
On the other hand i have a sony xperia P from 2012 where i replaced nothing, didnt use a screen protector or case and it stood 3 years of daily abuse and still runs fine today.
Wow, I applaud you for using the Mi 5 for almost two years. As I recall, I replaced my Mi 5 in the 6th month. The GPS on this cellphone is very bad.
I’ve been using my Mi 5s Plus 4/64GB since October 2016, so that’s 2.5 years. Everything works perfectly, the performance is still better than almost any midrange phone from 2019.
Battery performance has dropped after an update from last June (back then it was running on MIUI 9), but of course it couldn’t be as good as it was at the beginning.
Anyway, it came with MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0 and now it’s on MIUI 10, Android 8.0.
Same here, but about 15 months.
Xiaomi Redmi note 3 pro. Bought it while on holiday in Myanmar 38 months ago. First used it with a cheap case. Used it as a navigation system on my 7000km cycling journey to Iran. It only has a few small dents, a small crack in the front screen (just above the front facing camera). The volume button is dented but works nontheless. Only problem is that with a hard bump the sim card is disconnecting.
Last few months I’ve been trying to break the phone down, so I could justify buying a new one. No luck so far…
My A1 has been working perfectly for more than 2 years, but I’ve been having crazy battery issues since the pie update.
My first Xiaomi phone, a Redmi 2 Prime (Chinese Version) lasted a few days short of a year
I used Redmi 4 pro more than 2years and it still working almost as the first day. Battery performances are decreased by 30% but phone is still rock solid
I used it to watch a lot of videos and as GPS navigator almost every day and I am surprised how well it still performing.
I just stopped to use it because I got xioami mi 8 as gift.
I had a redmi note 2 for 3 years and a half and it was great, awesome Phone, only the plus volume and the power on buttons failed, and the battery started to fail to hold charge, the rest was working great, switched to a mi8 last year in december, I hope it lasts as long as the note 2.
Mi mix 2s. Died in 6 months. Not sure what happened. Phone is physically perfect, phone doesnt charge and when it does it randomly turns off. Replaced battery already, no luck. Not purchasing a phone that has to be imported any more, too much stress not having any official US support
OP, I’m curious here. What kind of damage has it sustained(drops, etc) while you’ve had it?
MI 6, absolute tank. I’ve shattered and changed the back glass a few times, now with ceramic but everything else is fairly indestructible, I’m guessing from the steel frame
I have mi5 for 22 months, battery still holding very good (accubattery show 2633 /2910mah) running global rom from the begining.
Using my phone mostly on reddit and browsing
My Mi4 has lasted me 3 years with 2 screen replacements and Redmi 1s lasted me 6 years with any repairs and both phone are still going strong
Redmi Note 4, has lasted since December of last year.
It’s running Pixel Experience on Pie and the only problem is the 3GB of RAM as you can’t have a Bluetooth headphone playing Spotify while playing Pokemon Go with an IV checker app because the phone will run out of RAM and close one. My phone is also bent, but that’s my fault for stuffing a microfiber cloth under a tight case.
For a general user it’s still a great phone as the battery last forever, and is fast enough for normal apps. Like I said the only problem is the low amount of RAM.
Mi5 had for 3 years. Used for 2. Heavy screen burn and my volume button does not click anymore and is ‘stuck’
My aunt’s Mi 4c is still alive and kicking. She has bought it in 2015.
Redmi Note 4x purchased in April 2017 still working fine, used it very crudely has scratches and has seen quite a lot of drops. Was happy to see that the battery wasnt bulging out so there is still time for it.
Just got my first one 4 months ago, a Black Shark, its marvelous!
I’ve got a Redmi 3s since February 2017.
Works fine on Android Pie in terms of performance.
I’ve dropped it tons of times and the device has major scuffs on the edges of the front panel, and a moderately scratched back. The screen is in perfect condition.
All critical functions work just fine.
2.5 years for my Mi5.
Though I had also bought Mi3 in 2014 when it launched in India. It is still in active use by one of my relatives. 5 years and counting.
Every few years Xiaomi launches a phone which is just bonkers. Mi3 was like that, RN3 was like that.
This doesn’t happen often but it does happen.
Got my mi 8 last September. Dabbled into custom ROMs and fucked something up. Now soft bricked and non functional.
Now on my sister’s Galaxy S8 after she switched to the iPhone XS. Camera only works when it feel like it, let’s just say but otherwise it’s a good experience overall.
I had a Redmi 3s prime for a solid 3 years. It was in amazing I had an issue with the speaker towards the end but otherwise it was an amazing phone. I felt bad giving it away but I upgraded to poco which is good
Note 4x everything worked for 1 year and a half until I sold it. I even stepped on it and unbent it lmao
I had a Redmi 4 prime, I got it when it launched and today it’s still being used by my dad, it is perfectly fine. I only gave it because I wanted a new one.
9 months. Also Redmi Note 3. Got a dead pixel that spread and finally the screen went all scrambled. Took it back for warranty. Official distributor in my country says it is user damage, even though I had a premium 9H screen protector and a rigid case with drop protection rubber insolation, both of which has no signs of trauma. Told them to get stuffed after I had numerous escalations. Still had to pay the phone off on 24 month contract while using my ancient LG G2. My last Xiaomi for the foreseeable future since it is the worst phone I ever owned (Bosch,Nokia,Sony,Sony,Samsung,Motorola,Samsung,LG,Xiaomi,Nokia). I forgot I was subscribed here.
Wife’s Note 2 lasted about three years with battery replacement after two and a half to a lousy ebay battery. My Redmi 3 lasted almost three years. If it wasn’t for the battery these phones would have lasted a lot longer.
Still have my Redmi Note 3, bought it when it came out. No damages whatsoever. Battery still good as new (lasts a couple days with light usage).
I was so impressed with the build, I bought the company. (Okay, not the whole company…)
yeah, my GPS signal craps out all the time as well. I dont think it’s something to do with the Pie update. I compared it with someone who was in the same car as me who had the same phone (with pie) and his had perfect signal, and mine was just way off. When I want to navigate I rely on other people’s phones.
Had a redmi note 3 Pro for 2 years, that I spilt wine over and it still worked like a charm a year later.
My Mi6 has got plenty of scratches on the screen but other than that it’s still working perfectly. Bought it in August 2017.
I don’t think anyone here has used a phone longer than me.
I bought Mi 3W back in JULY 2014, and i was still using it till last September.
I upgraded to PocoFone F1 in Sept, 2018, and still using my Mi3 as a secondary device.
Mi3 still has no problem in breezing through apps, it ran PUBG Mobile till version 0.6.
1080 IPS LCD screen is still producing pleasant viewing display.
SOT is around 2.5 HRS
My Redmi note 3 got pickpocketed 🙁
i had redmi note 2 since it got out to the market (still fully working), i changed to a mi8 when it got out since i am in china and got it cheap.
xiaomi phones are solid rock dude, just need to learn how to treat them, just a rom reset once in 1 or 2 years and everything is new
I pretty much eat through phones my redmi note 3 got destroyed by water damage, my redmi note 4 got banged up so many times I somehow managed to damage the video output, I’m now on mi a2, seems to be holding up fine, but I’m no fool, I know it will get destroyed
Two years and five months. I have Mi5. the only problem was battery which I replaced two weeks ago. Besides the protective screen and the cover the phone has only few scratches in the corners. Camera is still perfect and no internal storage left if i take videos. Other than that i love my phone.
I had mi3 for 3 years. It was under heavy use and i didn’t pay any attention on it. After two years my problems started. First micro usb port, then headphone and then weakned antenna. And after some time screen become yellowish. But to be clear that phone survived one heavy rain and one fall bath. Ahaa and 100+ falls from 1m height, I’ve changed about 6 backcases through 3 years. Battery lasted throughout hole day when replaced with mi6, even my mom used for a half year until she didn’t buy mi a2.
I replaced mi3 with mi6 year ago and I am very happy with it.
Xiaomi really have lasting mobile phones.
Did u get miui 10 on the mi3
Just curious?
Since March 2018. It still doing fine. I expected to use it for at least 2 years.
Same as you, i literally got the cheapest, lowest spec device hoping to save money & intending on using until I get a proper device, I never expected to use it more than 6 months but here I am about to hit 2years on it
I have a redmi 4x I got in mid 2017 for 80$
I didn’t use a screen protector but I have a good case, the device has chiped of tiny bit on the screen that’s all
The back (plastic) has a lot of scuffs even tho it was in side a case
performance has improved on miui 10 compared to miui 8 or even miui 9 ( I’m on the beta rom)
–mainly the animations much smoother on miui 10
Battery life has gone down around 1h of sot but since I get around 8-9h of sot on average it’s not a issue
(4100mah FTW 😉)
ONLY COMPLAINT I HAVE IS THE INTERNAL STORAGE IS NOT ENOUGH ( BUT HEY, IT’S MY FAULT FOR GETTING THE LOWER SPEC )
Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s. Dropped it with the case on a couple months after I got it and got a small crack in the battery cover that’s only gotten bigger since then. I guess it hasn’t really caused any issues, but it’s annoying how fragile ceramic is.
That being said, the phone itself is awesome. I’ve had it for almost 5 months.
I used to rock my redmi note 4 mediatek version. Bought it on the week it was released, but I got pick pocketed. I miss it dearly. Planning on buying the Pocophone
Using redmi 3s prime since nov 2016, it is all good except for headphone jack which is unusable. (I have made the problem worse by trying to clean it with metal pin)
Camera and battery are same as it was new. Tempered glass has scratches and has broken down at corners.
Overall, it is in good condition and working well
I had Redmi Note 3 since 2016, but I gave it to my younger brother this year.
And just like you, the problem it had are:
* the power button has to be pressed in very hard for it to register
* the sides of the phone are a little bent and out of shape.
Fortunately I can brought it to unofficial service center for only $10 and it still working smoothly until now (Android Oreo Nitrogen OS). My current phone is Redmi Note 7 by the way.
my first xiaomi phone i bought and now use is the mi 9
2 weeks in the only thing I can complain about is the MIUI global version which is shit. apart from that the device is super amazing!
im waiting for a lineage OS release then flash the phone.
I had a Redmi Note 4, broke the display after three months, and sadly bent the battery when replacing the display. Bought a Mi A1 shortly afterwards, which I’ve had for little longer than a year. It’s in pretty good shape, only minor issues being:
* battery not lasting as long (expected tbh, and still serves ok for daily use)
* charging port getting extremely loose (I have to let it stay still on a table to be able to charge, can no longer charge it while driving)
* GPS signal gets lost all the time since Pie update
2 months until i dropped it and cracked screen, then 1 until it completely died and i replaced the screen
Mi Max 1 owner here. Can feel the lagness in new games. Battery used to last at least 2 days with moderate use, now it’s 1 day. Still using the original cable and adapter when charging the unit. Other than that, everything’s still the same.
Mi4c batery died after 2.5 years, works for another 7 months after replacing it.
Redmi Pro. 2 years and five months.
2 issues: AMOLED screen has light burnthru (can see some MIUI 9 icons on white.) and my camera won’t focus since I dropped it on some hard concrete (I guess I can’t fault the phone for that).
I had to repair it once because it stopped charging. $10 fix at the local cell phone repair guy kiosk.
I will probably upgrade sometime this summer or fall and keep it as an in-house mp3 player. Has 128 GB of memory so plenty of space for tunes.
Not a Xiaomi but anyway, I’ve my phone for about 4 years now, and using a case and screen protector it still fine I guess, besides some scratches that I did on purpose trying to open a beer lol. I also have some burn in problems on the screen. So far no bent body, cracked screen or loose charging port.
MI3.
Used it for 4 years and 1 month. In that time I replaced the battery, charging port, speakers(got them wet..), and screen. Only after I replaced the screen the gps died, so I got a poco.
My Mi A2 Lite is 8 months old. It has survived a lot of falls, although I always use a case and a screen protector. The only issue so far is a loosening of the buttons, which is annoying but not a deal breaker.
redmi note 2, 2 years but i extended his life more than it deserved, it ended in pretty awful condition, sound and power buttons were working pretty bad, capacitive buttons didnt worked well either and at the end i broke the screen
now the build quality seems much better
Using the mix 2 since October 2017. Used my Redmi 3s prime for roughly the same amount of time.
I had the first Mi Note, used it for a couple of years until I upgraded to a Oneplus 5.
It´s been sitting in a drawer until a few weeks ago, I turned it on and to my surprise runs way better that some phones today.
I have to say I kinda miss it and would definitely downgrade if it the screen wasn’t cracked.
