No Google scrapped that thing, now you have to enable that enhance picture individually.
Aside from the automatic, free, unlimited photo sync, you can search something like ‘food’ and it totally gets all your photos. It also automatically groups together faces so you can search by your friends’ names and it knows who they are. It’s fucking magical.
Done that and it’s happening in one plus 7 pro and razer phone 2 also.
Are the photos in RAW?
Yes it’s working fine via file manager, this is happening only in photos. Any reason what might have caused this?
I updated today morning and this happened.
Yes, I had the same problem. Changing the contrast setting from “auto” to “standard” in MIUI fixed it for me.

You mean uninstalling the updates?
Bad JPEG-Rendering.
Same here on Xiaomi MI 9 SE. It’s indeed the last update of the app that does that. Fixed by uninstalling the update, now we wait for a new one.
Settings> display > standard contrast
No all are JPEG
Even if this works it is not a good workaround as it impacts the overall contrast of the phone
Same problem here
I’m on reading mode and I tried it, still same
I think the app just tries to “improve” photos currently.
Unlimited storage at high quality. Uses storage when used original quality. But difference between high quality and origin quality is minimal that you have to check pixel by pixel to identify.
Open it via File Manager
I’ve got the same issue (Mi9). But it only happens with 48MP photos. I usually shoot 12MP though, so not a huge problem. But still a little bit annoying. I suppose they’ll fix it in a future update. I suggest you leave feedback for them. Nothing you can do about it I guess.
Can you turn off automatic update just for Google photos?
same here… was about to post something about it, cool you already did it.
got phone yesterday today installed gphotos and !”#!”$#”!$#”% 🙁

Same here. Buggy update, wait for next one.
Also FYI Guys this thing is only happening in the latest update not the previous ones, I uninstalled the updates. It’s working fine but the since there’s no dark mode I gotta love with it.
Seems a lot of people are effected (myself included). Super annoying bug…

I dont know how its called or where it is but youve turned ‘enhance photos in gphotos settings automatically’. Or i might be wrong but i remember smth like that
Buggy update…
… but this workaround makes the colors washed out across the board it seems. The screen also turns more yellowish with this change…
Can confirm – this resolved it for me also.
Google photos have a very good of way sorting out photos with their folder names even if they are inside the same folder and have same names. Also they have a nice way of sorting the photos from the uploaded ones and the ones on the device storage together. Added bonus is the backing up photos easily and integrates with GCam.
Is there any particular reason that so many of you use Google Photos? (Never used Android before, about to switch from iOS, waiting for my Mi 9T to arrive)
Yes, on the Play Store on app’s listing page. But with every update it will ask you if you really want to skip updating it
