Chris is spot on, he always has constructive criticism on mobiles, so screw the likes of Xaomi for trying to dictate what can be said in reviews, One Plus seem to follow the same tactics!
No, it was censored.
In other news… Water is wet. This has always been and always will be. It sucks. But if you depend on brands to grow your channel then you’re fighting a lost battle. You should grow your channel by gaining the trust of your viewers… I think real tech fans have no problem in waiting for a review if it’s from a source they trust.
This is an old story, it’s the same with game reviews and any reviews of anything to be honest. It sucks. But I believe (I may be wrong) that if you’re in a position where you need the brand to help you out… you’re not going to be a good reviewer. And he’s still not willing to name brands. I can’t trust a guy that is so afraid to burn the wrong bridge. Reviewers don’t work for the brand. They work for the consumer. And getting review items should be seen as business expense if the brand isn’t willing to give you one for free or ahead of time.
I feel like a good reviewer would put them on blast. For full transparency “hey, this is what happened with X brand… they’re afraid of my review. So I’m gonna wait for the product to hit the market, get one. And give you my honest opinion” That’s a reviewer that I could start to trust.
I feel for the guy. It sucks… but if he calls himself a reviewer. Then I believe his main job is to actually push back on brands and call them out when they suck. The main currency a reviewer has is the trust of his audience. And he should fight for it. This video where he’s afraid to name names. I can’t trust a guy like that. (He may be the nicest guy in the world. But doesn’t look like he’s cut out to be a reviewer)
All if not most chinese brands do that. I work in that industry.
While he doesn’t mention xiaomi in the video, it’s obvious that’s who he’s talking about if you follow his channel.
Chris is one of the most honest guys on YouTube, I believe he’s grown to where he is by gaining the trust of his viewers.
Most issues he’s criticizing are only bugs in the software and can be fixed on a software update. If these companies don’t want to hear criticism on the early reviews, then they better tell their devs to start fixing their shit and optimize their software.
> Chris is one of the most honest guys on YouTube
He might as well be, I just didn’t get any of that from this video.
>While he doesn’t mention xiaomi in the video, it’s obvious that’s who he’s talking about if you follow his channel.
That’s ok. But I don’t think this video should only make sense to the people who are already fans of him. If he would’ve been more explicit and transparent about the whole thing I would’ve insta-subbed. But he didn’t. I got nothing against the guy. But this is not news.
Well said man.
But sadly, real tech fans don’t get you views, be the first to review, or the one who done stupid speed test is mostly the one that gets the attention more
Yes it’s no review of mi 10t pro!
Although he’s few of a great tech tubers, there’s not that much YouTuber that get paid for reviews, even if they get an early hands on, take for example, when Supersaf and Tech Chap get the Pixel for reviews quite early , its just because they get on the device earlier and nothing else, and when they introduced the Realme 7 series, they specifically say (atleast supersaf did from what i watch) “they are partnering with me all about them” which that kind of small things is the clue to look for when you’re looking if its a paid promo or an actual first look/review
I love this guy’ videos. Subscribed him years ago . But a man at his age already should have known nothing is free in this world. Will cost something. Can be either your opinion or money or something else. Because you’re not being paid don’t complain.
Context: this is a private video that is only linked from his Twitter, so I guess it’s only meant for his fans.
it’s sad that his channel is going downhill for the price of being actually genuine to his subscribers
a reason why actual authenticity is very very rare these days
I love how good and honest the content is. No bs, no gimmicks.
Yes seen that well said
he already said its Xiaomi on twitter
people don’t watch YouTube videos to get happy. They want a honest review so as to decide on what products to spend their money on. This guy is quite honest to the detail
I appreciate the honesty reviews. However I have noticed that even when he is quite positive about a phone the “cons” list is about as long as other phones that he generally found very sub-par. Like other reviewers he expects a high bar, but the “pro” list doesn’t reflect that the phones are meeting numerous demands from a year ago.
And from Xiaomi, who can fix those bugs and lot of the times do…
I wish he had a partnership with a retailer who was not such a pussy instead.
The system is inherently flawed anyway in my opinion. If I’m sent a phone for free, I’m definitely going to be more positive about it than if I spent £1000 of my own money.
Yeah he is honest and a great reviewer. One of the few I trust. Too bad he gets punished for that.
He is the best tech reviewer for me. Honest, knowledgeable, and to the point.
You’re assuming a lot from one rant video. Go watch some of his review videos before saying he’s not cut out to be a reviewer.
Isn’t that what he is saying in the video. He says he is taking some time off from youtube because he doesn’t like how the “youtube tech review” world works.
If I work in IT and I don’t like how the IT industry works… maybe I should look for a different job.
EDIT: I feel for the guy. I think he’s right that it sucks how everything works. But I think he should either fight to make it better or move on to something else that makes him happier.
Yeah he should definitely get over it eventually.
I think he took this so hard because he has always liked Xiaomi phones; he was actually really excited when Xiaomi started sending him review units a few months ago.
First youtuber I’ve subscribed to, purely based on this video.
techtablets is my go-to for tech reviews. honest and thorough reviews.
pretty sure hes talking about xiaomi hahah. xiaomify is another channel but seems like xiaomify is just all promo and don’t really give any honest review
