I don’t know if they read this subreddit, but I hope they do.
The multicoloured notification light was one of my favorite features on the Redmi Note 3 Pro and Redmi Note 4X that I owned before. I love that I could just glance at my phone and know if I got a missed call, an SMS, or a Facebook notification, or if the battery was fully charged.
I thought it was weird when I found out they didn’t have it in their higher end models, and I just learned that they have removed it from the Redmi Note 5 as well.
I recently lost my Note 4X and currently using a Redmi 5A. I don’t mind the slower CPU, the smaller screen, or the lack of RAM too much, but I really miss the notification light and fingerprint scanner. I plan to upgrade sometime next year, so pls Xiaomi don’t let the RGB light die!
totally!
I was so confused when I received my Mi6…
Does the Mi A1 only have the white LED or is it actually multicolored?
Yesss please I bought mi8 and it feels like a down grade against mi3 althought materials and speed is good
It’s white
Dang
I’ll +1 for the Mi mix 2s and it’s lack of the multicolored notification LED.
Same! Why is it just white?
is it xiaomi or other oem also?
Idk about other OEM tbh. The Redmi Note 3 Pro was only my second smartphone ever and I have only bought Xiaomi since then (both for me and my family members).
and you never faced any issue with xiaomi?
a friend bought Redmi 2A way back but after some use he faced issues
Such a weird decision to make. Multicolour LEDs for notifications are SO helpful to tell if I can ignore someone or not. Now I have to tell buy how fast it blinks… super annoying, can’t imagine why they’d do it.
Many oem don’t even put in one
Biggest issue so far is the power button on the RN3 Pro that now belongs to my brother. As of a couple of months ago (2 years after purchase) it became unresponsive and now needs some more force to work. Haven’t had the time to get it fixed yet.
A bit of paint around the volume buttons on the RN4X also got scratched after a few months.
Other than those no problem.
On the same boat. On my mi4c I had customised it so I knew whether it was facebook, sms, mail or something else. Now on my Mi A1 when plugged in to pc in work I dont know if I have new message or not because it just constant white light. If my notification led would stop working I wouldnt even notice.
White is also hard to spot for me, not like purple color I used to have.
So I assume you can remove the button from the outside, no need to disassemble it?
hehe a bit exaggerated xD
I got used to it, most apps still have a different blinking pattern. Would encourage them to bring it back though
You pobably need to disassemble it but it’s really not that hard
They dont have that anymore? What a shame. I have a mi4i i am looking for excuses to replace it allthought it still runs great.
Nokia 7 plus doesn’t have one though I don’t really miss it. Manufacturer is HMD.
I totally agree, I love the RGB LED on my mi5! Xiaomi is known for listening to the community and RGB implementation isn’t exactly difficult, so I hope they’ll listen.
Same here, I loved having a specific color for each notification on my Nexus 5.
White only is not that bad though, at least we have one! But multicolour is always better.
And it’s so inexpensive thing to install on a phone, I would gladly give a few bucks more to know when my screen is locked from what app did I recieve a notification.
Hey, pul3rd, just a quick heads-up:
**recieve** is actually spelled **receive**. You can remember it by **e before i**.
Have a nice day!

I agree. I have a Redmi Note 5 and I miss having an RGB LED. Also, the LED is very whimsical so you sometimes won’t even notice it.
It seems they do read Reddit:
>Jai Mani, the lead product manager for Xiaomi’s India ambitions, tells me that the company scoured **Reddit** forums while developing the F1, seeing users write that what they wanted were bigger batteries and a decent processor, but lamenting that “we’re geeks, no one will listen to us.” Those comments inspired the product team to incorporate the Pocophone F1’s big battery and high-end processor.

Yeah, my original mi note had a multicoloured LED. Now my mi max 2 only has a white LED.
As far as I know Huawei/honor still does put it in every of their devices, even cheap ones (saw it on Mate 10 , honor 8, honor 6C)
I know, it’s why I made this thread. Though I’m not sure if they come to this much smaller place, or only /r/Android.
You need to remove the back cover (watch out for the fingerprint scanner cable, do not open the back cover excessively), peel of the flexible button board and replace it with a new one.
I’ve done it with my brother’s Redmi Note 3 Pro, it is relatively easy. But you should watch some teardown videos on youtube to know what to do beforehand.
I didn’t knew what I was missing out before I got my Nexus 4, ever since all my phones had RGB LED and it’s so useful. I don’t know why other manufacturers don’t include it
I loved how the notification LED on my old Mi5 faded from one colour to another when I had multiple notifications, it was beautiful. Probably the main thing I miss from that phone.
I didn’t even realized they removed the multicolor led notification option in newer phones. For me, it’s a lot useful than an always on display (for notifications). Yellow for charging, green when fully charged. Blue for usual notifications, yellow for messages, red for calls.
i had one the oneplus one and it was awesome, could lust look at the flashing LED and know what the notif was
this is the real issue
They probably do. Make no sense they wouldn’t see the subreddit dedicated to their products.
I would gladly pay $5, or even $10, for a RGB notification light.
Yeah, it’s barely visible on a white front
I think you can do this with some apps ?
can we alter the pattern ?
Not that I now, it’s just the default behaviour of some apps
Yes please
A silly question: I once read about one model, don’t remember which one exactly, that had the RGB led only that XIAOMI removed the multicolor functionality from the ROM and it could be brought back via tweak. Is it posible to be the case on all models or it have been proven that it is a hardware thing?
its a hardware thing
Even i Miss those RGB light thats so helpful now mostly i figure about the messages from different notification sound
to save 0,001$ on BOM
Dude it’s so weird we have almost the same phone history. Redmi Note 3 > Redmi Note 4X….lost that jumped to a Huawei then an LG G3…lost that last week and now am back to Redmi 6A literally from yesterday and I just hadn’t realised how much I had honestly missed MIUI.
My current best phone out there is still the LG V30, but am starting to think I might not leave MIUI anytime soon unless it’s a gifted phone
I have a Pocophone and love it except for one big gripe – the notifications light is puny, tiny, dull and plain white.
Missing messages and calls is an ongoing problem.
Please Xiaomi give us a bright RGB LED matched to and configurable for different notification types.
This is a real problem for many users, as you can see here.
Thanks for listening!
I’ve still held on to the Redmi note 3 as they don’t have a RGB LED even in the latest Redmi note 6 pro. I used to upgrade each model every 18 months now I guess it’s time to switch brands. For my home and work phone – the RGB LED is crucial in silent mode.
Only reason I did not upgrade my mi max 128 GB. Plus they didn’t give mi max 2 more than 65gb. I believe that the mi max 3 would also not have the RGB LED. I doubt if I’ll buy another unit from Redmi
I recently invested in a poco F1 and Redmi note 6 pro for family members and was so disappointed with the white only led. I’ve held on to my Redmi note 3 pro and mix max for same reason. Time to look at Huawei phones .
