Hello, I bought an xiaomi mi6 from ebay years ago.
I recently found out this is the chinese version because When i try to log in to [mi.com](http://mi.com) it asks me to setup a verifcation number and will only accept +86 (china) numbers. My phone also wakes constantly asking me to log in. Really annoying.
My main issue is that I cannot unlock the bootloader.
I also cannot unlink my mi account from the phone as I cannot log in to do so. I’m concerned that if I factory reset the phone and try to use a new mi account I will be locked out my xiaomi’s anti- theft system that will require me to log in with the already linked account.
How has anyone got around this? I want to unlock the bootloader and install lineageos
Do i need to buy a temporary chinese number? Seems like a lot of ways i could accidentally lock myself permanently out of my phone
You cannot unlock the bootloader of a Chinese device any longer due to the orders of the Chinese government, which Xiaomi has to follow. Even a paid service cannot do it so don’t waste your money if you see scammers saying they can.
Just for further information there is a very long thread on XDA about unlocking Xiaomi devices but this post by the OP (who is very knowledgeable) is specially about Chinese devices

😀
so there’s basically nothing I can do? even if i got a chinese number for an account they still wouldn’t let me unlock it.
that sucks. I could have unlocked it years ago but didn’t think to
I see you have posted on the XDA thread. Wait for a response from the OP to see if there is a way round it. I unlocked a Mi Pad 4, which is a China only device, last September but I wouldn’t buy a locked one again as I think it might not be possible to unlock it
Maybe this can help:https://github.com/TheAirBlow/HyperSploit
my post was removed unfortunately. i shouldn;t have mentioned my exact phone.
He can be a bit grumpy 🤣
As another option you could get an unlocked plate or one that was not from China and exchange it for the one you have
you mean just ot sell it on ebay? would anyone want a chinese locked phone?
No man, I mean that you buy an unlocked plate or from another region that allows unlocking and replace it with yours, the one you have now because I don’t know… You can make a keychain with it or keep it or throw it away, that would be your choice.
sorry, what do you mean a ‘plate’?
Sorry, things about the translator… I wanted to refer to the motherboard, which is the one with the region lock
ok thanks. god that sounds like a lot fo effort. I can buy a similar spec phone for £50 so I think i’m gonna have to give up on my mi6. was my favourite phone so far..
That’s why I propose that option, in case it is a phone that you would like to keep, if the price of a “used” motherboard is not very high, I think it could be worth it, or if you don’t know how to do it, buy it and go to a trusted store where they will exchange one for the other, charging you only for labor, you have to be the one to assess how much you want the phone and if you can afford the expense, it is a good phone, for example I missed the mi A2 lite that I sold ago a few years and I ended up buying a used one for €50 just because of the appreciation I had for it, its only use? On the radio at night 😀
i can help
how so?
