There’s Mi, Redmi, Pocophone, etc. How do they compare with each other? It seems super overwhelming. I have always owned an iPhone and I want to switch.

MIX is their flagship/concept line, where they innovate.
Mi is their main flagship line.
Black Shark is a gaming phone startup that Xiaomi provides funding, support, and production for. It is not a Xiaomi line.
Mi Note is their premium mid-range line, featuring specs comparable to the last gen Mi series devices.
POCO is a cheaper sub-brand that’s closer to mid-range but keeps the high-end SoCs.
Mi A is their mid-range Android One line.
Mi Max is their mid-range phablet line, specs comparable to Redmi Note.
Redmi is another cheaper sub-brand that focuses on mid-range and low-end devices, however, now that they’re a sub-brand, they plan on releasing higher end devices similar to the POCO soon. (Redmi Note is higher end than standard Redmi)

Black Shark isn’t a Xiaomi line. It’s a startup they helped provide funding and support for.
Great list. The Redmi and Redmi Note series used to be interchangeable though between low-end and mid-range (i.e. Redmi Pro for Redmi and Redmi Note 1 / 4G for the Redmi Note series)

I don’t think they sell the SE versions outside of China. Before that Xiaomi used to make Mi5X and Mi6X which were similar to today’s SE concept.

Hijacking this thread but can anyone tell me what’s the best small screen Xiaomi phone?
Everything seems to be so big nowadays.
I had a Redmi 3 Pro a few years back. Crazy wee phone. Loved it.
Looking now for a work phone. Ideally same size as Pixel 3, S9, iPhone XS. My current work phone is a Sony XZ1 Compact but I’m finding it a little neat for typing and viewing attachments.
Would prefer premium as poss, but if there’s a decent budget option I’m all ears.

Really interesting to note that there isn’t a Xiaomi phone that has both NFC and a microSD slot option.
Funny, I have a XZ1 as well. For fun, I bought a Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S last summer. It’s a good size, about 1/3 of an inch taller than iPhone XS. Before I cracked the screen, I found it to be snappy and a great camera. Only weird thing about it is having to flip the phone upside down to snap a selfie. Otherwise, it’s a decent high-spec phone.

Eh, the Mi Note hasn’t been a thing for a few years now, but other than the SoC, the Mi Note is higher end in almost every way. Camera hardware (for the time), screen, audio, etc.

No – the only thing that makes the Poco even relatively high end are its internals. Things like actual build/screen are worse than the Mi Note series.

Its a clusterfuck alright, here’s my take
MI -> the original and for a while the premium, now just high-end (kinda since the MIA2 lite is budget)
MIX -> the new premium, the flagship, great materials and experience all around
Redmi -> the budget line now subbrand that doesn’t feel really budget at all if you stick to the Note series
POCO -> budget but high-powered? I don’t know how to classify this, don’t know why xiaomi created it and now there’s rumors of a high-powered redmi (note 8? who knows) so it would compete with the F2? what?
Blackshark -> Xiaomi’s gamer subbrand, wish it had a Xperia-like sliding controller but oh well…
NFC will be the first discriminator. will cut the phone list significantly

Actually Mi Max is their battery line along with being phablets. These models feature battery longevity and always carry battery sizes around the 5000mAh range or higher. For Chinese phone companies, the Max name implies big batteries first and foremost, rather than having the largest screens. It just happens to be that big batteries usually implies larger screens.
