where did you get the clear case? my original one kinda popped out and whenever i try to put it back on it loosens after a few hours. ordered a black one from ali but its gonna take a while

Haha, very true! Unlocked and locked a bunch of times. Rooted. Flashed china rom, global rom, miui.eu, lineage os, pixel experience, Syberia project etc. back and forth for a ton of times. That was hell of a ride with this baby.
I got a plastic replacement… doesn’t look quite as good, but at least it doesn’t smash if you look at it funny

I got it off eBay a year or so ago. Have a look for mi 5 plastic back cover, there are plenty there, there are also glass ones, but I didn’t want to smash another one
Did you also have a bent aluminium frame?

My short answer is MIUI.eu.
Lineage OS is fairly stable. But battery life seems worse than MIUI. Probably because I set up MIUI to schedule battery saver mode when I sleep, so a whole night usually loses 5% ~ 8% battery. I can’t do this on other roms. When I was using other roms, I charge the phone to 100% at night, next morning it’d be 80%. I had to charge the phone again mid day. And there are always some small bugs somewhere. E.g., Some headphone buttons were not recognised on Lineage OS 15.1. Not sure if they have fixed it.
Pixel experience didn’t work very well with my phone.
Syberia Project with Android 9 was ok. Everything was fine except I couldn’t receive phone calls.
So I always end up using MIUI.eu again. I found the screenshot feature in MIUI very useful. And I like the ability to have two copies of the same app, so I can use my instagram and my cat’s instagram at the same time. I also like the stock MIUI 10 camera’s portrait mode and HDR mode. I use it together with the latest Google camera 6 mod. The photo quality on the Mi 5 is less consistent than my iPhone but sometimes the Mi 5 takes even better photos.
I’m running Syberia atm and it’s running amazingly well. It’s probably the best ROM I’ve used so far.
