I used to get 9-10 hours SOT when I initially got this phone in June of 2019. Now I can get like 6-7 hours if I’m lucky.
Android System is the top culprit when I do a battery scan. Does that mean another app is probably running in the background?
UPDATE: I cleared the cache from all my apps, disabled autostart, turned off the power button shortcut for camera, and restarted my device. From a full charge of 100%, it’s now down to 87% with 24 minutes of SOT. I haven’t done anything except watch YouTube. This is pretty crazy.
Not a fan of flashing the EU rom or a custom ROM. I might consider a factory reset if it still doesn’t improve. I don’t get the option to re-download the latest package. This is pretty disappointing.
Miui 11 has some issues with battery drain, I personally fixed it by just reinstalling the update, but apparently doesn’t work for everyone.
(Download latest package in settings -> about phone -> system update.)
I’ll give it a try. Does yours have ‘Android System’ as the top app/program when doing a battery check? How much SOT do you get?
You’ve done a hard reset before install it?
I personally went from 9h to almost 12h with the latest update. Android system is second behind reddit.
Mine is the EU version and it’s better now. Seeing SOT’s i had never seen with this phone. I did a reset though
In MIUI 11 a lot of apps auto-start! Try disabling that. It did the job for me. In my case like 30 apps were running in the background automatically. Hope this works!
I have the same problem, even done the factory reset and it’s still the same
In my case there are 6 apps running like Instagram, Google photos, etc and none autostart and I still get android system to drain battery
I can’t download the latest package anymore. It says to try again in a minute or two but I’ve done so for the last 30 minutes.
Do you have the global version?
Man, that’s annoying. But can you still get 6-7hrs SOT?
How much do you get now?
No apps are set to on for autostart under the Apps setting. Hmm.
If I use it little lighter, I can, before the update it was guaranteed 6-7h regardless of the use
How do you approximate your SoT?
How do you get the EU version?
EU version.
Note that when I updated to the previous version, I also had 5/6h of sot. I had to deactivate the always on display, and I also did a full reset, after that I got 9/10h of sot.
Now it’s around 11/12h. Right now I used my phone for 1h10min sot, and I’ve 94% battery left !
Nope

If you press screen in the battery usage breakdown it tells you.
Yes, I did this and I regret nothing. Amazing battery life with the .eu Rom
I got 8hrs and some minutes on Thursday at 20% battery remaining. On Pie that will be about 6 hours. I’m still setting up so I’m sure if it settles I’ll be getting way more
Mine came with the EU Rom. If you are on global and you want to switch to EU, you have to unlock bootloader and flash the latest EU fastboot Rom. However, to the best of my knowledge, the latest fastboot rom for EU is quite old
Right now, I have 94% battery remaining and 1hr 9mins of SOT.
I know it’s better now because I realised as soon as I bought this phone, it was no where near what I was getting from my RN7. It was disappointing. But since the Android 10 update, it’s so much better now
Doesn’t unlocking bootloader makes you lose widevine version necessary for HD playback of netflix for example?
That’s horrible SOT
You do realise that we all have different use cases. I’m often outdoors and I only use dark mode in the evening.
reddit-censorship-from-mods-is-out-control
That’s crazy good! Haha. Good for you with the EU release man
I don’t think they are supporting the miui EU any longer…. you might want to look into that a little bit better because there was a lot of bad wrong is going around people were installing in their devices from outdated web pages. so just be careful.
Yeah, now I have to be careful. Before I could just use it as much as I could and I’d still have 15-20% at the end of the day
Eu version as in miui.eu custom rom right?
And not the official EU region miui rom correct
Yeah, same. I’m thinking of unlocking the bootloader and installing Xiaomi.eu rom, I don’t know if that will help though.
No no, the official QFJEUXM rom!
I’ll try to flash AOSP or Pixel Experience based on Android 10. I haven’t received MIUI 11.0.4.0 and also thanks to aware me ^__^
You can download it from “miui downloads” site then move it to download_roms folder and try.
I’ve tried but it says impossible, try again in 2 o 3 minutes
Doesn’t matter even if you’re all day at full brightness 4000mah should **at least** be able to pull out 5 hours everyday easily. 3 hours is like after 2 years of intense use and battery degradation.
Having it now is horrible battery life im sorry.
Is there a step by step guide? I am hesitant
I fixed almost all of my issues I had by just resetting the phone… Now I can enjoy the phone’s power just like it was before.
I’ve read some threads on xda and here that unlocking bootloader automatically brings you widevine level to l3. Locking the bootloader again gets it back to l1 though.
Ah, that sucks. Thanks though!
Factory reset?
Yes, backup all of your files before you do that…
Funny story: I was looking into resetting it before I did the backup and I saw that it requires you to type your Mi Account password. Typed it and saw that there are a couple more “Yes’s” you must press, but I stopped before the final ok.
At the new year, I did the backup, and then did a couple more photos and videos (these weren’t saved, which is a shame, cause it was really funny :/). After some minutes I wanted to flex on my friend with how secure it was, that it asked me for the Mi Account password before I can reset the device, but this time it didn’t asked (I assume you had to restart the phone for it to appear again). I was looking for the Password Asking, but it didn’t asked me, and so I pressed the Ok buttons until I resetted my phone. He was laughing with tears at how silly I was, but I deserved every single bit of it… It’s still a shame that I haven’t been able to recover the videos and photos…

Is eu better than global though?
You should definitely install xiaomi.eu ROM. It’s better in every sense. Watch some YouTube tutorial to see how it is installed, the written guides tend to be confusing.

I had 35% battery drain on android system, after factory reset i have around 12%.
Please read my reply again. At what point did I say I was getting 3 hours?
I don’t know. I heard it had some privacy interventions to meet the EU regulations. That’s it
Seems Ike xiaomi can’t maintain the quality of the software with the amount of phones they have. There are many of devices with problems in miui 11. What a shame
Funny, and have better battery life after the new update.
Also, use Blockada and use a different DNS
Wow, im fucking blind lol. Im sorry.
That could be solved by having Google photos backup enabled
I did… I just looked on the content from that day and only the photos were saved :/ Still, better than nothing!
Wish I had your battery life 🙂
I Get 10/12 hours in Global
Reinstalling the update might have fixed the battery drain on my RN8Pro, thanks for the tip!
Does the xiaomi.eu rom fix issues with notifications?
Have mi 9t global and experienced this too!
This is for pretty much every xiaomi redmi devices…
I was on miui 10 on redmi note 7 with great backup but as soon as I installed miui11 it degraded gradually… Like I get half an hour to 1 hr less on an average…
Had the same issue after update and for me it worked by removing camera button shortcut. Turned off launch camera on power button and rebooted and battery was back to normal ever since.
Redmi note 7 has the same issue
My brother downloaded the Mi9T Pro rom to his K20 pro and worked just fine. No issues found. Battery lasts for about 8 hours. App battery saver not modified (Left on MIUI optimization) (I have it changed in my Xiaomi for better performance and didn’t see any battery drain issues)
Try clearing cache of all apps (playstore etc.). You could also try to debloat
Another possibility is to just factory reset, if its not too much hassle and see if it helps.
I also had bad battery life last update but fixed it with disabling autostart on all apps and clearing cache, after 3-4 days it got good again and now on android 10 its just phenomenal
So true, whenever anyone asked me lately what phone to get I would suggest something from Xiaomi cause of the cheap price for ok hardware. Nowadays I’m not sure about that.
There’s always been ads which were problematic to get rid of for some users that aren’t that handy with stuff like that and so many bugs lately.
A lot of models have touch issues, notifications have been a special kind of mess for ages, viber video calls not working and so on and so forth.
The problem is both too many models and the fact that they have to push new MIUI every now and then and honestly it brings nothing new but few cosmetics and they never fix some of the bugs that have been there since the release of some phones.
I’d be so much happier with an update that fixes well known bugs , maybe improve camera software, work on better battery life but no , here you go , we gave you new animations and dark mode on a phone that has LCD . It’s getting frustrating really.
Wtf, did u really get 9-10 SOT? I got the mi 8, and I just get 4-6 SOT.
I used to have miui 11 android 9 and I downgraded to miui 10 ,I’m enjoying the 8h SOT and I will never upgrade since I don’t see why ,nothing is new in android 10 update but the bugs
> Nowadays I’m not sure about that.
I’m not sure either.
2 Xiaomi phones of local friends had a black-screen problem where the phone would still work while the display would not.
The Redmi Note 8 Pro is controversially easy to brick, and it can only be fixed with an Authorized Xiaomi account.
The mid-rangers of Xiaomi have UI stutter, the Redmi K30 can’t keep up with 120Hz refresh rate.
The new Redmi series literally look like Huawei copies.
MIUI 11 has the classic icons revamped as the default icons and they look too cartonish and big in my opinion. Limitless is/was great!
Things aren’t moving in the right direction…
I don’t even game. Just heavy with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Spotify, and Chrome. That’s it really.
With MIUI on android 10, I get so annoyed everytime I open my phone from sleep. It takes an extra 0.5 seconds because the app icons have to do this weird animation. It honestly annoys me a lot.
It does have 4000mAh and SD730 which is an efficient processor. It used to get 9-10 hrs no problem. Now I need to monitor my usage to get to 7hrs SOT.
I disabled autostart on all apps. I think it was only the camera that had autostart on. I cleared cache for Google Play Store but not all apps. I’ll try a factory reset if it doesn’t get any better in a couple of days.
I’m considering it now. Just a bit of a hassle
Good for him hehe
I hope there’s an update that fixes this
This is different so I’ll give it a try. The shortcut of pressing the power button twice to launch camera is definitely useful but I’ll give it a try. Thanks
MIUI 10 was the best battery life for sure
Did you fix it?
Even with MIUI 11.0.4? Is Android System one of the top apps in the battery scan?
Well 6-7 hrs is still respectable. It’s just because I got used to the 9-10 I know it can get
How do you do that?
How much SOT are you getting now?
I will do so. Thanks.
I guess just stay on MIUI 10 until it’s fixed. Luckily, I haven’t noticed any other bugs on MIUI 11. Just that the start-up animation that loads your apps from the lockscreen is slower by like 0.3 seconds. It’s annoying but noticeable.
I guess I will have to give that a try
I’m too hesitant to try it out haha
Yes with 11.0.4.0
And not, it isn’t
Over 69hrs battery and 5.5hrs screen on time
Yeah do this for all apps, even if its annoying… Try debloating as well
Then after a week try to factory reset if really nothing else is helping
If they don’t step up these problems they will be in some trouble because there are others brands (Realme) that are offering a lot for the same price.
Yeah, exactly how I feel. You can get the poco launcher tho, an exact clone of the system launcher without that delay.
No, but Im keen to know how to solve this as well 😀
Nice
Having normal battery is way more useful 😀 Good luck
Have you tried find out which app or system service like “cell standby” is causing the battery drain? Generally a factory reset is a good idea after major Android updates.
Okay. I’ll give that a try. But do you do that all the time now? Won’t that hurt the battery?
I only have Android System as the top app but not Cell Standby.
I have very gross and huge lags whenever i launch the recent apps. I did a factory reset but doesnt helped a bit…
Hello, I am from Ecuador, in fact in my Redmi Note 8 I have noticed that the battery does not last me after the last 2 stable updates of MIUI, if I go to the configuration to see the statistics of battery use I find that the System Android is the one that consumes the most battery. It doesn’t give me more than 5 hours of battery life with a 100% charge
If instead of QFJEUXM I have QFJMIXM is it still European version of MIUI?
