[https://i.imgur.com/yBbecEt.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/yBbecEt.jpg)Shot on Mi 9t pro (MIUI 11 rooted) 4min exposure astrophotography mode, hacked gcam with 48Mpix magisk module fix. Edited a bit in PS. This is crazy what can be done these days with cellphone cams!
UPDATE: this pic was taken on 12Mpix, trying still to get better results with 48Mpix full rez (seems sensor is overheating, lots of hot pixels and it can crash gcam)

I know I’m late but don’t know why the module is not working in my device. After flashing it I cannot open my stock camera neither gcam cuz it got crashed. Please anyone tell me a solution 😭😭😭😭
Yeah , that’s the one I tried. I can’t open any camera app when I have that installed. Thanks anyways
I’ve used this one
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=4349826312261710494
using atm burial’s mod of gcam 7.3
48Mpix can work with astromode, but it heats up phone a lot. There is ton of hot pixels to clear in post 🙁
Hey , I know it’s a bit late on this matter , but do you have any idea of what module you used? I can’t get any single one working , and I’ve tried a few of them. Thanks
Can someone tell if this works with the latest gcam **GCam\_7.3.018\_Urnyx05-v1.9.apk** , android version 10Q, with xiaomi.eu ROM .
what are the downsides of unlocking the bootloader?
like Widevine L1?
It works, but it is unstable when in astrophoto mode and sensor overheats. Hot pixels get stacked, so it’s not 1pix size per hot pixel, yet 6-7pix. Still recommend 12MPix mode for astrophoto, until i figure out what is best combo in exposure value/number of frames in 48MPix mode.
The 48mpx mode doesn’t work is it still in development? Or am i doing it wrong?
Oh darn. I forgot about them. But iirc magisk should be able to hide itself from banking apps completely. Haven’t tried it though
Cool! I’ll try to get some pictures next time I’m far from the city. Thanks!
Thanks, gonna give it a try.
with this magisk module it is, but seems it is unusable (so far) for astrophoto
yeah, just turn on astrophoto in options (gcam 7.x). Seems it is doing smart stacking and max exp is 15s per frame. I get total max 4min and 30sec in urnyx port and 8 min in burial gcam port.
Yeah, it may be like that, although I would expect some startrailing on a 4 minute window of time. Maybe Google’s astrophoto corrects for that? That would be very surpring. Good luck with the star tracker!
(ps: I’m guessing then that this Gcam port requires no configuration then? Just install and it’s ready to go?)
This shot was made with faulty magisk module, so it was 12Mpix (tho pix bin seems to be better/off?). Tried with proper magisk module 48Mpix fix and indeed it was uber heavy on the phone. Battery drain, crashing when processing pic. Heat was not problem on the phone itself, but on sensor indeed it was. Huge hot pixels!
As i know, you can use gcam port w/o root. Not sure, i am unlocked and rooted.
I think it is 16x15sec (4min total) exposures that google’s astrophoto mode does (and some smart masked stacking). I will tho try the phone on a star tracker (motorised mount) without astrophoto mode and do longer exposures with my own stacking (maybe even do dark/bias/flat frames?)
No xml config. To be clear, this was 12Mpix pic, i’ve used wrong 48Mpix magisk module, tho the pic looked like the pix bin was off/better. I am now on proper magisk module and i am getting 48Mpix rez, but there are multiple issues:- lots of hot pixels (some big up to 7pix)- processing can fail- worse results (visual) than in 12Mpix mode
still ongoing experiment 🙂
I don’t understand why the stock software just don’t let the user do whatever they want with the Pro Mode. My phone only let exposure up to 32 second. It’s okay, I have done some milky way photos, but I can’t shoot the ATLAS comet with it.
Got the same phone, stock camera app allows for pixel binning aka enabling 48mp and gives higher resolution. I was looking into it as well some time ago and understood that 48mp isn’t available on gcam but I can’t remember anymore why or how. I’d like this to get answered as well.
Whats this “48mp fix”? I got a REDMI note 7 and gcam installed. Is it using My 12mp instead? Can i install that to My gcam? My device is not rooted
How can I check if my gcam use or not 64 mpx on my redmi note 8 pro ?
Why is rooting you RN5 a problem? These days it’s a fairly straightforward process
That’s a great pic!
I remember that the Gcam port that I was using in my OnePlus3 required some configuration. Is that the case with this hacked gcam that you linked? It sends me straight to download.
Also, 4min exposure is A LOT. I was shooting with \~30 seconds and getting similar results. Could it be that you were using a very low ISO?
what config did you use?
is it possible to install it without rooting? such as via bootloader?
The gcam implements a 12/48mp toggle in the viewfinder and the associated code but requires eszdman’s fix to patch the camera stack to actually work.
what is difference between hacked gcam by Urnyx05 and gcam 48Mpix fix by eszdman?
To install fix, but as I know you can use Gcam port without root.
It didn’t make your phone gets hot? I have a Mi 9T with Stag OS Rom and my phone was so warm after installing it. Idk if it was cause fix or cause rom (or both, lol).
Edit: Beautiful shot, btw.
indeed, pretty amazing…almost dslr like 🙂
Thanks a lot!!
prerequisite:
\- unlocked bootloader
\- rooted phone (magisk)
\- ezdsman magisk module fix for 48Mpix
\- compatible gcam app
Yes
Need to root my phone…(?)
Magisk
Wow. It’s really amazing how phones can produce images like this in 2020
Astrophotography mode in gcam (hacked google cam), 48Mpix mode in gcam was enabled with magisk module. Exposure was 4min total. Though this pic was still 12Mpix (i messed up, tho pix bin seems to be off), trying now full on 48Mpix with burial’s ver of gcam. Still experimenting 🙂
How do you install the “fix”?
How did you shoot it? Was it a special mode or long exposure?
