I’ve been looking at getting the mi 9t pro mainly because it’s got no notch and feel it’s a better deal then apple or Samsung but my father is against me getting one.
(Edit) i’ve came to the conclusion i’ll be getting the mi 9t pro thank you for everyones thoughts you’ve been really useful in helping me decide and also change my fathers mind.
They are good, but terribly annoying after a year. Battery goes to shit, battery drain with screen off, loses the snappiness
No
Yes, did that. Also installed the update again, but I’m still having a 20% drain overnight and about 3h of screen time. And that’s just absolutely horrible.
I’ve gone Sony > iPhone > Samsung > Xiaomi and they’re the best phones I’ve used. Quality on par with iPhones and Samsung’s easily.
But for the price, Xiaomi decimates. I got My Mi 9 and my brothers Mi 9T Pro for just over half the price of an iPhone.
I love my A2. And I feel the A3 is a great model. Much cheaper than 9T. I don’t need a Snapdragon 865. The A series is perfect
> The only thing that makes me want to change it is how amazing the new xiaomi phones are every time
This is a constant struggle!
Damn I switched from Samsung Galaxy S6 to Xiaomi Mi 9T and I must say that I totally love it. I was a bit scared of Xiaomi’s OS but it feels really good 🙂
Yes!
Xiaomi is the 4th largest phone manufacturer in the world. Most people outside of China and India have never heard of them though! They are a massive company that make great spec phones at very low cost. It’s understandable that when you haven’t ever heard of a company you might be skeptical, but once you look at reviews and what other people have to say, you will realise it’s going to be a great buy.
I’ve had low end Samsungs and Xiaomi. Unless something changed to the low end Samsung devices in the past couple of years Xiaomi is way better.
Yes, this in an issue that prevents me to recommend the phone for people who didnt like to thinkering with stuff. Had the sake issue, factory restored my phone and nós os awesome again. But you can reinstal the miui11 over withoit losing anything. Worked for some people.
I’m in the UK and have a Poco phone. I was really hesitant, I’d only had Samsung’s and nexus before really. I quite like it. Miui is ok, takes some getting used to. It can be pretty aggressive with battery management. I have Huawei watch 2 and had to do alot of research to get it to stop disconnecting. But all the info is there.
There’s no ads on the version of miui you get in the UK and it’s pretty regular with the updates.
It takes lovely pictures with the g cam mod, and it was cheap enough that I don’t really care if it gets broken at work.
I still find myself wanting to get rid of miui, I’ve just never changed a rom before and want all my banking apps to work.
He’s probably thinking of the multitudes of small brands that have come and gone in the Chinese smartphone market – Kingzone, Umidigi, etc. A lot of them *are* very cheaply made, and sell for very low prices.
Xiaomi are a very successful company that sell millions of phones every year. They’re not at all comparable. Xiaomi make “crap and cheaply made” phones in the same way that Huawei, another Chinese phone company, does.
Get the S9. It’s a way better device. A true flagship.
and you can even prolong the life of your xiaomi phone of choice by flashing a custom rom on it like lineage os or pixel experience with security updates that won’t be revoked by phone companies
Any Xiaomi phone will last with a custom ROM
I have a redmi note 5 and despite all new phones i still keeping this one. 1 year after and didnt noticed relevant battery decay or hardship to run my apps. I would definitivaly recommend.
Get a flagship like the Mi9 or the Mi9T Pro. I found that Xiaomi give great attention to flagships and less to ‘value’ phones. This is probably true for every manufacturer out there though. A flagship will also work fine in 3 years time, while a value phone will become sluggish as updates start rolling in. Also buy it from a local retailer instead of a grey import. This way you’ll have at least 1 year warranty.
Too bad colour options are pretty poor with the 9T Pro – I find the blue and red variant childish. The Mi 9 on the other hand [looks stunning](https://imgur.com/a/8xedAbd) in any colour option.
I’ve been using xiaomi phones since 2014 and they are amazing. The thing is, buy only the most expensive xiaomi phones, only the flagships and you won’t have any problem. I’m currently using a xiaomi mi 8 from last year and I have Android 10 on it, Stock miui. Samsung doesn’t even have Android 10 on their 2019 flagships. I got Android Q before even OnePlus
Sounds like your dad is making shit up.
“I can get a S9 cheap because I know someone who works at Samsung”. That makes no sense at all.
Samsung no longer even makes the S9, and even if they did, knowing someone who works there won’t get you a discount.
Or does he mean he knows someone who works at the retail store who wants to get rid of old stock cheap?
I’ve had Mi max 1, bought in 2016 (still works just play games on it) Mi Max 3 bought last Christmas still works like brand new. My wife had a redmi note 4 bought in 2017 and I just got her a Mi 9T, all of them have worked perfectly fine and still work like the day I got them. I did replace the battery in the Mi Max 1 but not bad considering the phone came out in 2016.
I am using Xiaomi Mi 9t for past two months and so far i have nothing but good words about this phone. The battery life is one of the best i had on any smartphone, it has decent spec’s for gaming, 6gb of ram, great screen and a great camera. My friend has Samsung galaxy A70 which costs almost the same and I can tell you that Xiaomi is far ahead in everything. If you ask me I would recommend you buying Xiaomi Mi 9t pro instead of Samsung A30,40,50,70ect.
I’ve had Xiaomi phones for the last 6 years. Never once had an issue. The build quality is excellent.
You have to try one for yourself. I had the same idea but after watching reviews they convinced me. I’ve had three xiaomi phones and the first two have lasted more than a year. The build quality is alright for the average user, one that does not need to get it wet or in similar circumstances.
I’ve had my Mi Mix 2 for over 1.5 yrs now. I don’t run high graphics demanding apps so it’s never lagged for me. Battery still good and charges well. USB C is fantastic and the inlet isn’t broken, like it did for my previous s6 which had a micro USB. Also s6 battery died within a year or so and I had to buy a new battery to replace the bad one.
If you are planning to game on a phone for days on end while streaming it from your phone, even the 200-300 dollar xiaomi phones will work like a charm.
My biggest thing is screen on time. Planning to get the new mi note 10. Great company.
Also the xiaomi mi airdots are very much worth the $17.
Couldn’t find the setting you mentioned for YouTube actually. For other apps I can choose no restrictions, battery saver, restrict background apps and restrict background activity. This is under app battery saver. But YouTube is not listed
They are good and will lasts for a long time. Go watch Xiaomi reviews in YouTube.
I had my first Xiaomi device two years ago, a bit skeptical at first because I came from an ecosystem which is everyone is familiar with, but I am currently expecting to invest into more Xiaomi devices and appliances as well. Reason being it is economical and easy to find. Also I am just patiently waiting til’ next year for the announcement of Mi X/10 Pro if that’s how they’re gonna their next flagship device.
Currently using Redmi Note 8 Pro.
Well every phone (atleast from known and respected company) is able to last if you behave and use it correctly on the software/application/network. I have my 200$ xiaomi for almost 3 years and if the screen wasn’t wreck… for the second time thanks to my stupidity, I’d likely have it for another 2 years
I have RN3 kenzo. Still kicking.
Still using my first Xiaomi ever (mi 5) after 3 years and 3 months. Still a beast, definitely a reliable brand IMO, none of my friends or relatives have had a phone last that long in *pristine* conditions.
Hail Mi 9t pro!
It’s all good except the vibration sounds scary because the two halves are vibrating against each other. I never got any squeaks like some other people got though.
Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro user here. And yes. They do. It’s definitely a bang for your buck.
I used my Redmi 3 s prime till 3 days ago when I upgraded to a Redmi note 8. The phone was still perfectly fine. I just felt like upgrading. I would wholeheartedly recommend Xiao I based on my experience
I’ve gone from a Pixel 3 to a Xiaomi Mi 9 SE and have had absolutely zero regrets and can’t see myself ever spending flagship money on a phone again, this has been that good.
Well, they are not worse than other phones. I’ve had my Xiaomi Mi 5 for 3 and a half years and other than battery life drop, it works quite fine, build quality is good. I’ve dropped it many many times, at least every few days and nothing ever happened 😀
I have a Mi 9T pro and trust me on this, I’m loving it.
I had Xiaomi Poco F1 before this. I loved that too.
Xiaomi made such a good impression that I am currently using Mi earphones, Redmi airdots and Mi bluetooth speakers.
And all of them are working great 👌
Good quality with cheap price ♥️
An old Xiaomi Mi5 lasted me 3½ years (and still performed better than any 200€ phon on A tutu)
I bought a Mi 9T Pro two months ago and it’s incredibly good. I tried both S9 and iPhone X, and this feels better to me.
I also convinced my family to buy (and therefore tried) a Poco F1, a Mi A1 and a Redmi Note 7, all of them were very good.
Pretty sure I’ve done that too 😉
My European mi 9t has no ads whatsoever. I’ve heard other versions have but don’t know which one.
yeah, but you get another set of issues instead. MIUI update handling could be a lot better and its a defect of a company that has too many phone models, regional variants and also a too ambitious update lifecycle (5 big updates and 1 android version update per model) but you still have the option to not update and wait for an smoother update to come instead. Apple’s issues with their phones when they have them arent really optional, you get then and are stuck with them unless you change your device, a device that also costs a bunch more than the xiaomi equivalent in specs.
each to their own I guess.
Boycott xiaomi until Chinese human rights abuses cease.
They are like a Mcdonalds. Leave them somewhere and they will last forever.
your father is the reason flagships at 800+ bucks still exist
“its expensive so it must be good” mentality needs to stop. mi 9t pro is the reason why every “big brand” flagship phone is totally irrelevant par some niche use cases.
I said no to every mi app demanding permission regarding personal data etc, and no ads so far, 3 weeks and on. Even the calculator would like to know shit :D. Say no and they still work. Had to set up a mi account for a wallpaper or theme once, still no ads. From Turkey.
Italy, but laws in this matter should be similar thanks to the EU
They are great phones. I have my redmi note 5 for 1,5 years now and I still love it. I never had any trouble with it so far.
I’ve had the mi9 SE for over 8 months and so far it’s treated me as if it was new. Just because they cost less doesn’t make them worst. I would totally recommend the 9t pro and it should last you a long time.
Hope this helps.
The problem with the so/so is that they can get a burn in very quickly and Samsung is 100% not fixing any of it.
Where are you? In Europe there are ZERO ads.
Even if I was getting both phones free I would still choose Xiaomi
I have bought the Mi A1, which was one of the first ones (if not the first) to officially be released in germany (with full band support and such)
So it has been well over a year now and it doesn’t show signs of breaking yet.
No unexpected lagging, no crashes. Battery life still good.
This gives me a good feeling it will probably last at least 3 good years
for example, samsung dex functionality.
If it needs root then il just leave it alone
Buy Xiaomi if there is an authorised dealer/reseller in your country, though Xiaomi phones are good.
I see. If that’s the case, your question should be, “How can I convince my dad that Xiaomi brand smartphone are good” since you already convinced it is good.
Apple devices never have anything. Except for battery. They have a very bad rep about that. And high prices
I used and abused RN3 pro for 3 years before.
It still works like a charm but I changed to 9 T pro because I had broken a good part of it.
RN3 was amazing and worth every penny.
I’m loving my 9T so far
Yeah I figured that out. Just coming from Samsung where stuff just worked it took a little getting used to
They are good but with what is China doing lately I came to the conclusion that I won’t support this country and any company from there anymore.
They’re basicly the third Reich
is there a way to completely remove ads ?
I’m pretty against the idea of showing your dad any of Jerry’s videos 🙂
Still rocking a fully functional Redmi Note 2 B)
Yeah. Of course I’ve always been taking good care of it with always a case on and a screen protector. But no problems whatsoever. The software updates have stopped though some years now.
But every app I want works just fine and Play Store updates are coming normally.
One argument I’ve tried (and worked):
For the price of an iPhone/Samsung, you can buy two Xiaomi flagships. So even if today you got an iPhone/Samsung that you intended to keep for 3 years, you’d be able to get a top of the line Xiaomi, retire it in 2 years, then get the latest and greatest that would STILL last another 2 years. That’s 4 years of staying on top compared to having a flashy phone for the first year or two and missing out on the rest
I would look at Swappa as an inexpensive way of upgrading. Mi Mix 3 is going for $250 – $350 for good to mint condition models.
Xiaomi rocks tho! Switched from Apple to Samsung to Xiaomi!!!
Everything is super about Xiaomi smartphones beside main, and basic thing that the phone is for – the speaker. If you hold the phone in pocket, it will get dust shortly and you will have to give the phone for RMA. I did that twice. No ways to clear the speaker on my own.
I think i will try. But that’s just what I mean. Buying a Xiaomi phone just comes with things like having to do a factory reset once in a while. Not a huge deal, but still a trade off.
I am on my 2nd Xiaomi phone, Redmi Note 7 use to have MIA1 but gave it to sister. I made 2 of my colleagues and my Uncle buy the Redminote7 and they are thrilled with phone even tho they wanted to spend more money on some better know brand to get same or even worse experience and recently my friend asked for a advice for a midrange phone and showed him the Mi 9t and he is very happy with it, he was looking at P30 lite but for like 20 euros more mi 9t is much better in my opinion.
Didn’t work for me. But yeah, I feel you. If you’re ok with running into some problems, some minor and some a bit more major, go for Xiaomi. The price for the hardware is just amazing. The software is just not very stable in general.
I’ve been using my k20 pro for a month now. I can say it’s pretty good! The build quality is great, overall the phone feels premium in hand!
I did get the android 10 update on time.
I think it’s the best value for money product out there!!
I’ve never had one in hand so i can’t comment on that.
I have had or handled some more budget oriented/constructed phones that feel ok and aren’t affected by the “creak” you get when you squeeze some plastic body phones. My ancient Galaxy Ace felt nice and solid but by and large there is a big difference in feel between plastic body an metal/glass bodies.
This is complete bullshit. My mix 3 with miui 11 now has a better battery life and i have never had a problem with any of the app on this phone. I use it almost non stop whole day at the job and charge like only in the morning. Watching shows and stuff. This phone is just amazing and the price right now is super good. Mi 9t is awesome too, snappy, cool looking, battery is amazing etc. Bought it for my sister. She is very happy with it. BTW Check miui autostart after 11 update.
Had my xiaomi redmi note 3 pro since mid 2016 and had no issues, still performs like new, even the battery.
The Mi Mix 2 is the best phone I’ve ever had. This is the first phone since the iPhone 4S that I didn’t replace after 1 year and I just got another update this past week.
In my home there are 3 people using Xiaomis and one person using an iPhone 11 Max Pro. That should give you an idea.
I bought a s5 with burn in and they fixed it in warranty
I am fairly new to Xiaomi as they don’t get much exposure in Canada.
I bought my MiA1 1.5 years ago. I use my phones for personal and work. I’m not a gamer but it do test some games for the kids before they are allowed.
I won a big contest with new phones so that is the only reason I have upgraded to the Mi9.
But I did hand down my MiA1 to my 8yr old who plays Minecraft, animal jam and Mario Kart tour on it. Plus YouTube. 0 issues with it. Has a spigeon case but no screen protector and still going great.
As for my Mi9 I have only been using it for 2 weeks. It’s build quality is amazing. I can’t attest to how long it will last because again… 2 week. But if it’s anything like my MiA1 I am not worried.
As mentioned already. Check out jerryrig YouTube.
He has done a few test on Xiaomi phones.
https://www.bing.com/search?q=jerryrig+xiaomi&FORM=RBY050&PC=EMMX20&refcv=d9yhBBwq65EKsqDv.0.0.71.81
And you can compare to his tests with Samsung
https://www.bing.com/search?q=jerryrig+samsung&FORM=RBY050&PC=EMMX20&refcv=d9yhBBwq65EKsqDv.0.0.71.81
Yeah they are good phones, my first Xiaomi was the only one to give trouble, it was a redmi 2 and the rear camera stopped working which was a common problem with them. I have since had a Redmi Note 4x which had no problems and I upgraded to a Mi 9T Pro in September, it’s a very solidly built phone, I have no worries of it lasting the next 3-4 years. The front camera would probably be the most likely thing to break but i use Snapchat alot and it is constantly going up and down and I think it should last, even if it doesn’t it’s not too hard to replace the whole front camera including the motor. The screen is the hardest and most expensive part to replace, I think the panel alone is about 150 euro, so by the time it’s in your looking at 200+ unless you do it yourself. Anyway they are built well, alot stronger than an IPhone, my note 4x got quite a few drops including one out of a moving tractor and the screen didn’t have a scratch on it, I didn’t have a screen protector either. Another thing to note is the lack of waterproofing with a Xiaomi, it should be grand if it fell into water and was pulled out quick enough though, it has a ring around the sim card slot and the back is glued on so it should be good enough for a drop into water, just don’t bring it swimming.
The best demonstration that they are good quality is to have him hold one in his hand.
I’ve had cheap phones and expensive phones (Vertu, included) and none of the Xaiomi phones I’ve handled feel cheap. They’ve all had a good quality feel and a pleasant weight (very important when it comes to the feel of quality) to them. Some of these lesser brands (Doogee, Cubot, etc) have felt a tad “plasticy” and low quality but never any of the Xaiomis.
Xiaomi phone (or products overall because I own a bunch of them) are good. And I am saying this based on personal experience, before my Xiaomi Redmi Note 4x, I owned a bunch of different phone where I use to play games on them. The battery just died on one, the other one the screen broke after my wife threw it out of rage (because of me of course haha). Then I had the Redmi Note 4x and it has been two years that I am using it (without a case and without a screen protector). It shared its ups and downs, my wife threw it again out of rage, my son countless times, me just gaming and normal use and guess what, it is still alive and welll. The Redmi Note 8/Pro is out now and I still have no plans of upgrading. I’ll just wait for my beloved RN4X to retire.
Just a warning if you ever break your screen or need a part it can take a month depending on the item. I broke my screen on my Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S. I could not find it anywhere locally at the time. It took 3 weeks to get to my house. Luckily I had a crappy phone I could use in the mean time.
Put your dad up for adoption.
Just kidding.
Yes, the xiaomi phones are durable and have very good build quality. And they are not that expensive.
Maybe you should show your dad some of the reviews on YouTube. Also the videos by JerryRigsEverything (hope I got the name correct)
My Mi Mix is still going strong. Updated it to MIUI 11 today. Works great.
Are you the one buying it or your dad? If it’s you, then just ignore him, and if it’s him paying for you, choose a flagship Samsung, so no cheaply made phone 🤣
Hi, he did destroy the mi 5. It snapped in half. But, Xiaomi made huge progress in build quality. If you watch the k20 pro durability test -which is the mi 9t pro’s name in some markets- I’m I you can convince pops. I’m currently typing from a mi9t pro and I’d definitely recommend. It might even be waterproof, but doesn’t have the IP certificate. Seen a video where someone submerged it in the water for some time and it came out ok. If you get the mi 9t pro, I’d recommend getting the Nova launcher (I’m on prime, been that way since a few years, my previous phone was an honor 8. I’m also running a pixel live wallpaper, and feel free to message me if you’d like to do so)
Tell him we say hi!
Mi mom bought (thanks to me) a redmi 5a about 2 years ago, the cheapest phone available at the Mi store in my city.
Even though it’s an underpowered phone for me (I have a mi mix 3 coming from a Nokia 7 plus w/ Android one) she’s really happy and she just received the MIUI 11 update 2 days ago.
So, they are built to last, have quite the official support and most importantly, you have to buy the specs you really want.
Lots of people buy a lower middle range xiaomi and expect it to be as good as an upper middle range phone from other brands. You have to compare them as equals and spec the xiaomi as your intended rival from another brand.
And that’s without beginning with all the support, versions with snapdragon processors, are given besides MIUI!
iPhones are great quality and last several years, the iphone 6s which is from more than 4 years ago got the latest iOS update and is still running well without slowing down
Maybe. But I don’t think Xiaomi will actually recognize it. Still may be worth a try though.
First Xiaomi phone was mi5. Even now with a custom ROM it’s snappy like a brand new, it’s unbelievable that I’m switching between apps without any delay. As my screen broke, I let it in a closet. Screen costs about 30$, it’s not an issue.
Now I’m using mi9 since July, at €350.
Boy, it has amoled screen, 6gb ram, the latest SoC, it has a great camera (it was unexpected tbh, mi5 had a crap firmware while the sensor was fair enough, although there’s room for improvement for mi9)
Other than that, I just got the miui 11 with Android 10. Great battery even if it’s 3500mah, it has a premium feel and it’s very thin and light.
I’m browsing the internet, FB, watching YT, using messenger, playing CoD, PUBG at max settings, and it’s so snappy and smooth.
Redmi 7 is snappy and has a great camera too for 120€.
Samsung is a crap phone, I can assure you that, especially when comparing them with Xiaomi’s price range
Mi 9T Pro
Have him “prove” they are cheap crap phones.
It was new almost 10 years before. Nowadays its a well established brand.
But what your dad is right about – irs a Chinese phone (which is not bad nowadays) and they have their shady practices with ads built in and tracking.
If any of this bothers you – xiaomi.eu rom + xiaomi phone gets rid of all that software nuances.
As ive already said on this sub – been using mi5 for over 3 years now – been more solid than samsung, lg nexus, motorola than i had before (which lasted less than 2 years of use).
I’m pretty sure it will be the same but better make sure.
I got mine here in Spain and I was ready to do the whole debloating thing but it is perfect out of the box.
Once you go xiaomi you’ll never go back
I think he is trying to save you before you become a fanboy
Trust me it happens to me
Xiaomi phone
Xiaomi headphones
Xiaomi thermostat
Xiaomi shoes
Xiaomi wallpaper
Xiaomi laptop
I would look at Swappa as an inexpensive way of upgrading. Mi Mix 3 is going for $250 – $350 for good to mint condition models.
i dont get ads on the phone just when using their apps. my region is morocco if i switch to an europe country the face unlock feature just goes away
I own a Mi Mix 2s and at this point (after two years), I’m ready to buy another one because I love it so much. At least when this one goes (or I smash it) I’ll have a brand new one in the box.
Amazon. They are a bit more expensive but it’s worth paying a premium for piece of mind. Check across all the sites ES/IT/FR/UK/ DE as the prices can vary
I don’t know the new ones, but I had my note 3 pro for 4 years. It died two weeks ago, and now I have a note 7.
I dropet it like a chillion times, and two times dropped to water. Battery was good, it died because charging USB died, and circuitry making shorts.
Screen had only some minor scratches.
I was very careless with my phone and it last d four years.
Had my Mi Mix 3 since it came out.
I mean, if you ask this on r/Xiaomi, you’re probably going to get a biased answer.
That being said, my last Xiaomi phone is still working perfectly, despite me having already replaced it with a newer one. That’s more than I can say for the HTC that it replaced before that. My GF’s Xiaomi is also still holding up great after 3 years as her daily driver. I just asked her if she wants me to buy her a new phone for Xmas, and she said no. She wants to keep using her old Xiaomi.
then i vouch for the vanilla mi 9t, you compromise on the SoC itself (still nets you a midrange snappy 730,which is not slouch bh any means, just slower than 855 as the other 95% of SoCs are really lol) but retain the “platform”, as in notchless display, good cameras, miui features (most people despise its bloat but you can always gut it without even rooting the phone), excellent battery life (even better than the mi 9t pro i would say, 730 sips power), etc. its cheaper than the mi 9t pro but doesnt feel cheap and short lasting by any means, if that is what is worrying for parents.
does he really think products are more expensive because of the build quality and not because of marketing costs?
S9 is a great phone in the first year. Xiaomi can be great or hit-or-miss. After 1 year xiaomi is great and S9 starts to have wake locks, poor battery, general slugginess etc etc
Yeah, Apple just costs far more, they slow down your phone and blame it on “battery degradation” that somehow wasn’t a problem before that update, they are vehemently against right-to-repair and somehow manage to fuck up every single phone and blame it on the consumer.
Buying Xiaomi is a bit of a gamble. You get an amazing phone on paper for less cost sure, but warranty in most places is not as good as Apple or Samsung.
You have to be very careful when using their phones, from my experience especially near water. I’ve had Redmi Note 3 for two years and Mi 8 for 4 months before it got ruined. Now I have Redmi Note 7 and I just learned that I have to be very careful with it. (Always with a case and try to never drop it)
Still I can’t justify getting an iPhone just because it has a better chance to survive.
To be fair, I am on a Mi Mix 3 since January. Installed MIUI 11 like three weeks ago. Battery has become absolutely horrible and some apps have problems opening since then. You just don’t get this with an Apple device.
I had the same problem with my mi 8 se after i upgraded to miui 10 but calibrating the battery did the trick for me.
My Redmi Note 4 lasted 3 years, I sold it in perfect condition and bought Mi 8 Lite which I’ve been using for over a year. My wife has the A2 since launch, no issues so far. I actually had issues with previous Huawei smartphones
The USB port broke on mine. I read that it’s a relatively common fault. Other than that it’s been fine
You just sign in with your UK Amazon account, you can buy from any Amazon using your UK details there is a small shipping charge, no free delivery
I just got a Mi 9 Lite, and my previous phone, which I used for two years, was Mi A1. My wife is now using it, it’s still perfect. I had a Redmi Note 3 Pro for six months before that, and I sold it to a colleague, who is still using it to this day without issues.
did you try debloating the phone? that usually does the trick with the battery drain issues.
This is the durability test I mentioned
I have a mi 9t pro in Canada. I was kind of hesitant about it too, and was worried the shiny back would look tacky, but all my worries have been disproven as this phone has been amazing. Camera is amazing, build is really good (I think it’s built better than a pixel). Everything about the design is smart and well thought out. Front camera works like a charm and I am always surprised by how quick it pops out. Also one small note is that I was surprised by how bright the flash is as well. Small thing but it’s hugely useful. Trust me your dad will be amazed by the quality.n
Bought a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X, lasted me 3 years, battery started not holding juice so decided to grab a new Xiaomi phone – Pocophone F1. The phone cracked on me cuz I dropped it on concrete from a good height. Parts of glass on top part were fallen out and after few months other side cracked. Phone still works really well if were not talking about battery and screen. Get a good protector and a case and you’ll be good.
Nonsense, i had a redmi note 4 for 2 years without any problems. Bought a new mi 9 lite a few weeks ago and im very happy with it.
Xiaomi has a income cap of 5% on most devices if I remember correctly. The devices aren’t cheap because of poorer build quality, just because they earn less (which is why they give you ads when possible)
Have had my mi max 2 for 3 years now! Works great, however I think the antenna could be better.
For the record, I’ve been a happy customer of Mi, my device (for the most part) worked well, and I will probably soon buy another to replace my Mi 8SE that was stolen. That said, with all the positives that everyone has given you, there are a few negatives to consider with Mi. While durability for the device can be quite good, finding high quality cases can be almost impossible. Shockproof and waterproof cases that are available for Apple and Samsung devices like life-proof and otter box almost certainly won’t fit your device. You’ll probably be stuck with a cheap silicone case or hard shell. My clumsy friend broke (no exaggeration) her Redmi Note 5 screen at least 5 times, but if a better case was available I’d guess this number would be much lower. There’s also usually no waterproofing at all, so if you get your phone wet it may be ruined.
Depending on where you are, I can’t speak to it myself as I lived in China, but I hear getting repairs can be a pain as most repair shops aren’t familiar with the Mi phones and you probably don’t have a Mi store nearby to help you.
It also is worth asking whether you have used MIUI before? It’s not bad and some things, finger gestures for example, are really good, but it’s IMO still way behind where Apple is as far as design, performance, and integration. It may have been since I had the Chinese version, but certain apps didn’t work too well and the overall design was a bit clunky. I actually used my old Apple phone whenever I had WiFi since it was a better user experience.
If your dad is paying for the whole thing, I’d probably just go with the Samsung or Apple as they are objectively probably better phones. That said, Xiaomi does make great phones and all the problems I listed can be avoided if you are careful and don’t mind MIUI. If you want to save a few bucks, you aren’t sacrificing much and still getting a great phone that should last you if you take care of it.
Enjoy whatever phone you end up getting!
I used the Mi 9T in America and for the price it was excellent. No complaints at all. Up there with the tier 1 companies.
I’m planning on getting the Xiaomi Mi 10 somewhere around March 2020 and i’m hoping to use it until at least March 2023 – so it better be good and it better last 🙂
question your dad if he know what is margin when you sell something, and search what is xiaomi’s business model you should understand too why there a cheap and can explain it to your dad
As someone who switched from and iPhone 6S Plus to a Mi 9t Pro I can say. It’s a pretty solid experience all around. From the built quality to the details in the software. Like…one example. When you got the clock widget in the main home screen and you scroll from other screens back to the home screen, the clock at the top in the status bar will disappear since you already have one in the widget you don’t need two… little things like that. Regarding convincing your father about it. Did you tried showing him some videos you’ve watched?
For protection I say eBay
For price I say AliExpress
For fast shipping gearbest ( limited )
I bought mine at gearbest
There are no ads in latest miui on flagships.
Not in xiaomi.eu roms.
Really decent. My last three phones have been Xiaomi.
I want a Fairphone but until I can justify the price I’m happy with my Note 7.
Nada. The battery just flies away haha
No need to feel attacked. I’m not saying this will definitely happen to everyone, but that’s been the case for me. I actually really loved this phone for the first few months. But from then it just went downwards with battery life, especially after the update. Did everything from turning off autostart to installing the update again. Did not help at all. It’s not a bad phone, but I personally will avoid Xiaomi for my upcoming device.
Show him that video of an Indian reviewer hanging tons of weights to the mi9t’s popup camera.
Most likely yes.
As i said its easy to remove them but still a hassle there are many guides if you search on google, a more known tool is [Szakis debloat tool](https://github.com/Szaki/XiaomiADBFastbootTools).
Xiaomi phones are quality made, it’s their software that is a downfall.
they’re amazing and sturdy af
Also it’s the first phone in years that I own and didn’t slow down nor have performance issues such as the battery not lasting the entire day after 2+ years that I own it.
The only thing that makes me want to change it is how amazing the new xiaomi phones are every time
Where do you live? Does your carrier support the bands
Better yet, boycott Apple until it moves manufacturing of iPhones to US, too.
Lol.
I have had a Samsung, One plus (3 times), Nexus. Neither of them lasted longer than 2 years.
So now i have the Mi 9T Pro and i will see if it last long :’)
Why not s10 or wait for s11?
You may receive ads (I didn’t, but it may be related to your country), but you can easily remove them debloating the device, which doesn’t require rooting it and doesn’t void the warranty
>some niche use cases
Like what? I don’t think Mi 9T Pro is missing anything.
I was thinking going Samsung myself but i live in Europe and most of Samsung smartphones comes with Exynos soc which by its self isn’t bad soc but compared to SD variant, lacks in many areas.
So i ended buying Mi 9 very cheaply, so far so good build quality is great miui is a personal taste some like it some not i find full screen gestures very good, stock camera is also good but its pretty bad at night this can be fixed with gcam mod. My only problem was the ads sure it was easy to remove/debloat but still super annoying.
In the end its up to you how much money are you willing to throw, most of smartphones last 3-4 years from personal experience except if you are some gadget junkie who likes to throw money every year for a new phone. For me it was either give 500€ for something i know its gonna be good (Samsung) or get a comparable (Xiaomi) half the price.
Choose your poison.
Any Xiaomi phones with Snapdragon chips are good and will last very long for everyday uses. Avoid Mediatek though.
I killed my Mi5 when I banged it off a unit and dropped it. Was such a nice phone to use, great size, good custom rom support (from memory). Had a mi 8se until about a month ago when I got the mi 9t.
Nice phone, bit big, battery easily last me a day compared to the 8se the battery for me is slightly better. Waiting for pixel experience but until then Xiaomi.EU seems ok if that’s something the op is concerned about
Yeah, I love my Redmi Note 5 Pro.
No ads, only a few in some of the system apps (file manager etc) which can be turned off. If you are from an EU country and buy it from Xiaomi officially you won’t have ads as it comes with an EU version of the global ROM which has Google apps instead of Xiaomi apps.
I’m not saying they don’t, I still use my 5C for fun. But that’s leaning on the frugal side, while my comment was directed at those who upgrade much more frequently. If you’re the type to use an iPhone for so many years, you’d definitely be able to use a Xiaomi flagship for much longer than 2 years too.
