The world eveolved so much even technology had cancer
Reminds me of impact damage. Sometimes if the glue or design or whatnot isn’t perfect the edges can flex enough to damage the panel but the glass stays intact. Really hard to get warranty fix on.
Oh no, ur phone has Corona, get rid of it while u can…
A new screen will probably be ~$60, don’t know the real prices but that’s my estimation
So in that case… Congrats on your new upgrade to the Mi 11 Pro!
Not even color reproduction, most reference monitors are lcds, you just sacrify blacks (and even that it depends, there are double lcds with much better blacks than regular ones but power consumption and thickness aren’t ideal for a smarthphone)
Yeah protector only covers glass. Not the edges.
does this also happen to LCD screens like the mi 10t pro or nope?
not a single xiaomi phone has even the most expensive
i thought it was ink or something.
It’s alive 😄.
Stupid joke.
Blue blood, also known as blood of an android.
*Detroit Become Human*
Amoleds are expensive. Alternative ones in ali vary between 100-70 USDs (only the part and without bezel). There are cheaper ones without fingerprint reader but still amoled and some LCDs that somehow they make work with it for 30-40 USDs.
just put a mask and isolate it from other phones
I replace phone screens for $20 and the screen cost where I live xD
I agree!
1/3 makes sense, just checked. But the dude had 90%, now edited it to 60%.
YOu can get LCD replacements on ali if you like the phone but dont want to spend on another ez-to-die screen.
liquid damage most common cause is alchool (hand sanitizer ) nowadays.
You already know that is your AMOLED screen slowly dying. Happend to my Mi 9T Pro a few weeks ago, in 2 days my display was fully dead. My best advice would be to order a replacement part ASAP
I used to have some similar when I drop my defy, the solution was remove the batery and leave the phone in the freezer for a time haahaha
Nope, this only happens with AMOLED

A Bad drop
If this model has video out over USB C that can help recover data. But yes back up now for sure.
It’ll slowly consume the display. Backup your files asap.
You know the screen is 60% of the device right ?
A drop maybe. I have the same issue because of that. It has been like that for several months. Sometimes gets bigger, sometimes.it gets reduces and I already got used to.
yep, you really start to think if the true black and AOD is really worth the pain of their fragility and replacement cost
Curious too, i dropped it and spilled water and my wife used hand sanitizer on it too and its still working perfectly.
Amoleds being amoleds 🙁
They may have great blacks and low power consumption on AOD, but they suck at how fragile they are. At least LCD to die, they have to shatter. These things even go to black by falling inside a rubber case!
Ummmm… Blue paint?
Where i live screen replacement for mi9 costs between 180 and 250 euro. Which i find insanely expensive, that cost is >50% of a new phone 1.5 years ago.
Ok that’s great.. you got the parts… Now what. Have you ever attempted a screen replacement on a modern phone cos holy crap is it hard to do well.
shit man sorry maybe i took it a little different
I’m not sure why I got downvoted.. 90% may have been an exaggeration but it’s difficult to see benefit economically.
There’s an emoticon in your screen and I can’t unsee it.
Really should only need a new screen, not that bad
just wait until they dry before picking up the phone
Now I’m happy I bought phone with ips screen..
I had a Samsung Note 2 that up to recently my brother was using without out a single issue despite countless drops. 8 years and retired graciously that mofo!
I see that now, i am used to LCD and didn’t know the price difference was that much
It’s growing slow, that’s a week’s progress.
Funny thing, I was reading rumours about the Mi 11 Pro and thinking how lucky I am to have such a nice device that can last a few years without need to upgrade.
amoled sucks then
You make it sound like the phone is at fault that you dropped or exposed it to water (device which doesn’t have any IP resistance rating)..
[lol, just look at OP numbers](https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/kjypph/any_idea_what_caused_this/gh0vapf/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
AMOLED oxidation or sometimes called screen cancer. A drop, or water can cause this, the screen will be completely dead in 1 or 2 days 🙁
Backup your data as soon as possible!
Happened to my Mi A3 after a fall. Screen passing away slowly.
As long as you don’t lose it, yeah.
Talking about the USB debugging?
Is it safe to always turning on the USB debugging just in case if something might happen to my daily driver?
I had the same problem with my oneplus 7t unfortunately you will need to replace the screen 🙁
Was going to buy a used pixel 3. Slight black aria in the top corner. Impressive given its a rounded corner.
Yeah not touching that. Seller said they didn’t notice(probably true) but yeah. Could go so bad so fast.
Should I be worried and stop sanitizing my phone.?
I have to thank everyone who dropped by and left a comment!
what an amazing community
I will keep the phone operating until the screen is unsusable and post the progress later for those who are curious.
I suspect humidity, it is spreading slowly from the speaker corner of my mi 9
I have experienced this on my old Samsung Galaxy Ace, one day it’s small, two days later it’s all completely black.
F
Yeah. Not sure it’s this catastrophic issue. Like it was pure black. Normally I see a purple or green edge. Still not something I want to touch.
Seller ended up getting it replaced and I perched that one.
Ironically I had screen flickering issues but that was after an update and after formatting twice it’s done it for a day and gone away. I think it’s a software issue. I plan on formatting it from computer and see if that stops it entirely.
Didn’t think alcohol could do it but not surprised.
Oh dang you’re right, I’ve only done lcd screens that’s way more than i expected
Lmao that’s the screen to body ratio, and even then, those numbers count for 1 side of the phone only
yes if its amoled screen
I damaged a display of my tablet outing my feet on it accidentally, and was like that.
It’s a typical AMOLED display problem, AMOLED screen is way too nice so it broke easily. Happened to me two years ago on my Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro, started of as a smaller than yours and spread across the screen for about two weeks.
First i thought i never dropped my phone this hard, but i realized doesn’t matter how hard it is AMOLED screen is way too fragile, so just a slip from your hand to a table will cause it, warranty doesn’t cover it unfortunately so i had to pay all the fees, phone fixed then i dropped it again from a meter high to a wooden floor and it appears again…so even if you want to get it fixed, i’m not sure it will withhold any impact to the phone.
Good news if you have an insurance for your phone, they will get it fix for a cut price or free of charge for you, but if you don’t, the most you can do is backup all your data, remove the pattern lock (so you could just plug it to your PC and access the storage), enable USB debugging and use something that able you to control the phone from the PC (like AirDroid).
It’s okay, a phone should never be this fragile from the first place.
Oxidation, caused by leak/moisture. You have less than 36 hours to backup your data
Yes. Try replacing individual parts on the boards themselves. That’s what’s hard to do.
Arg. So like Pixels?
Chrome OS pixels do but the pixel C tablet apparently had hardware support but was means to be Chrome OS and they went to Android and didn’t bother. Shame.
You dropped your phone
Getting quotes all day every day for people who drop them…….
It is nearly always pointless to get s good quality replacement.
is not that hard, plenty of tutorials on youtube. The hard ones are phones that must be open by the screen (without killing the screen).
Where did you get those numbers from?
Edit: At least if you make the edit – mark it as edit. You had 90% previously.
Great game.
Thanks I have an LCD
more like 1/3 – 1/2 depends on the place for an original AMOLED. From ali you can get cheapers or buy alternative LCDs
I had this on my Pixel XL. It was interesting watching it slowly crawl across the screen.
OP definitely needs to back up as soon as possible or enable usb debugging and install something like AirDroid so the phone can be controlled from a pc.
Does that happen even with a screen protector?
I got a J7 (JF510 i think) go black on a fall, with sturdy rubber case. The screen was intact but seems this thing “unglued internaly”. I ahve a mix 2S (LCD) and a mix 3 (amoled) and if you dont mind for AOD, the difference is minimal. On my next phone, i’d prefer LCD all the way.
