Is this for real?
waiting for a2 lite pie update : (. everyone get theirs but my phone won’t get it. non-root completely stock got all previous months updates.
Could be, but it’s always been enabled on the A1’s identical Chinese twin, and it would make little sense to go back to Qualcomm to aquire license rights for FM on A1 this late when the phone has in essence already been superceded by newer models.
Thus I lean to believe Xiaomi have had the rights for both 5X and A1 all along but the “A1-intern” has only gotten round to fixing it now.
Good old times
Someone tried it ? Any errors ?
Now listen, I was never going to flash it a rom, I was just eager to test out Pie but honestly I have no problem with stock and I bought this phone because of its mid range specs. Plus it’s my first Xiaomi device.
can’t wait
That is extremely disappointing.
Pretty smooth, no big errors to report now. The new gestures take a while to accustom to.
Let’s hope so.
Still waiting for 8 on Mi Max 2
how does it know you’ve said “OK Google” unless it’s listening alll the time?
Because it has less bloatware from Google, customization, FM Radio, then with Magisk I can enable the camera Api to make gcam work.
After it all comes down to preference, I just like customization
Any fastboot ROM?
I disabled that with Magisk
It’s a little bit annoying that we’ve carried the chip around all this time and xiaomi hasn’t bothered enabling it until now. Still better late than never, and it makes for an interesting point in a change log.
Why did you sell your Mi A1 for a Redmi Note 5? Isn’t the A1 better or did I get lost?
How?
The “AI” portion of the update simply means the phone is gonna send a ton of telemetry over to Xiaomi or Google in order to feed its computer assisted profiling and predictive system, all so it can send back content and suggestions based on your interests. It’s basically an Amazon Alexa or Google Now, which you can already use on your phone for spoken requests — these systems continuously record and send all audio over to their “home” where the audio is then analyzed for speech recognition and then translated into text so they can work out what you’re saying. If at some point you say the activation phrase like “Ok, Google” or “Alexa..”, whatever you say afterwards is considered a user command, to which the system then replies back with whatever it managed to work out from the things you say after the activation phrase.
This is really intrusive, since that’s essentially a wiretap. Even if you’re not taking advantage of the system by issuing commands to it, the system is still recording and logging every bit of audio it’s picking up.
Everything you say is recorded. How do you feel about that?
Does it has treble?
I don’t understand. Who would they need to pay a license to to include an FM radio?
everything you say after you issue command ‘ok Google’. which is a feature. don’t believe everything you read. 🙂
A1 has a built-in radio? Bloody hell yeah!
I hope someone here can explain this to me, but why can’t we disable the FM Radio app ?
or the Feedback app while we’re at it?
it always seems so random which system apps can and can’t be disabled on a phone, but in every phone I’ve ever used I never could disable this stupid radio app which is totally useless to me
So who’s dropping the zip file

What do you mean?
Yeah sure haha… Actually, that would be nice.
So annoying
Good thing it’s a beta… which means they should be able to fix bugs like this for general release

how does the chip know the word has been said unless the microphone has picked up sound? if you can say “OK Google” at all times then it’s always listening. whether it’s recording it or doing anything else with it is another story. but it must be listening.
Looking forward to disabling the wiretap feature as soon as I install this update — hope it’s an optional feature.
But Google and Xiaomi want to spy on my very important conversations because I’m important!
Way too late
Still waiting on my mi mix 2…
Finally a FM-radio
No but just a guess considering what they did last year. This time they didn’t promise anything
Wow, FM radio. None of the other xiaomi phones have Radio. This is so cool and makes buying Mi A1 worth even more.
How do i download it?
Hmm , i didn’t get fm radio in a2 pie update. That’s disturbing
The beta is sent quietly to testers it’s not made with official announcement so what you are seeing is screenshot from a beta tester.
Great.. A week after I flashed Lineage 16..
And here I am…with Oreo..on a Mi A2..
So what mine came with oreo
Stable on December 31 ‘pie by end of 2018 lol’
If you’re talking about the Note5, its bigger and heavier which I didn’t want.
Mi A2 had some sort of a limited rollout to India, Belgium and Netherlands. It’s expected that the Pie update will come along with the December security patch sometime during the month.
It’s doable on Miui no? So can’t see why they can’t disable it on stock android too.
I think you got it wrong mah man.
Nope sadly
Unless that changed
Probably due to licencing fees
The hardware navigation keys still lights up after enabling pie gestures. 😐
it has a hotword detection. listening all the time will kill battery.
Hopefully it will fix the hissing sound when listening via earphones..
