2025 Flagship? Sure.. (X15U)

Xiaomi’s HyperOS team should be downright ashamed of themselves. The fact that their so-called flagship phone is plagued with this level of stutter and lag is an absolute embarrassment. It’s not just unacceptable-it’s pathetic.

Never understood why a little lag in animation is something to take such high note. It’s proves nothing about the performance rather the software optimisation. And that is not something pretty easy when you don’t make your own chip

Just tried that same manoeuvre on mine and it’s smooth as butter… No jitter or lag at all.

Same as the rest is the UI… Buttery smooth throughout

You’re missing the point. We’re not talking about a ‘little lag in animation’-we’re talking about a flagship device that’s marketed as premium, yet struggles with basic smoothness. I don’t care if it’s the chip, software, or space aliens-if you’re charging flagship prices, deliver flagship performance. ‘Not making your own chip’ isn’t an excuse, it’s a reality they chose to work with. Optimization is their job, not my problem.

Glad yours is working fine-but that doesn’t magically make everyone else’s issues disappear. If mine stutters while yours doesn’t, that just proves inconsistency across units or updates, which is still a HyperOS problem. A flagship experience shouldn’t be a lottery.

True .. they should all perform the same.

I’m assuming you’re up to date on all the software? Maybe a factory reset will help?

Other than that contact Xiaomi support to see if they have any suggestions , it’s possible you have a faulty unit.

Yeah, my phone’s fully up to date. Already checked that. What region is your unit, EU, CN, or Global? Just wondering if there’s any regional variation that could explain the difference.

That could explain it then. It’s possible the EU version got a newer firmware ahead of the global one, and maybe that update smoothed out the stutter issue. Hopefully it rolls out to the global variant soon if that’s the case.

Yeah, I looked into it and there’s actually a difference between EU, CN, and Global builds-they’re not all technically the same. EU might currently have a newer firmware, and CN usually gets updates first. So that could explain the performance gap.

HyperOS looks great but does suck because of these little things + bloatware and ads. That’s why whenever I buy a Xiaomi/Redmi/Poco phone, the first thing I do is slap a custom ROM on it. I did it on my phone, my sister’s phone, my brother’s phone, and even my mother’s phone

Haha you have some very very strong opinions which I am not going to argue with. Building software and optimising it to hundreds of device models running different chip set is not some weekend task.

If you really cannot stand the lag of a few frame drops I can say you are the one missing the point. This device was never advertised as a smooth high performance device. That’s oneplus and oppo. This is a camera centric device and in that department it delivers. Am sure you have critics about that too and if you say it’s not you problem that they cant make a perfect device am sure someone here can say go buy something else that caters your needs.

Simply put, I think you are being very dramatic that a frame dropped. Instead enjoy the device. Good tings in life are hard to come these days. We as a society have become so demanding that we don’t enjoy what we have and don’t let others enjoy what they have.

    Peace

Appreciate the lecture, but let’s not pretend basic Ul smoothness is some luxury request. When you pay flagship money, you’re not buying a single ‘camera-centric’ feature-you’re buying an overall premium experience. And if the software can’t keep up, people have every right to call it out.

I’m not here to ‘enjoy a few frame drops’ like it’s some poetic life lesson. I expect quality where quality was promised. You say I’m being dramatic over lag? I say you’re being complacent over mediocrity.

Peace, as you say-but with expectations.

Cause they paid large amounts of money to get a flagship experience?
It does prove that xiaomi should work on its software performance.
It is pretty easy imo i don’t see any other manufacturers struggling to optimize their flagship devices with non inhouse made chips.

I might go ahead and do that tbh. I heard the Xiaomi 15 Ultra (Global) bootloader can be unlocked. I’m a bit experienced with that too, so I might switch to the xiaomi.eu ROM after the disaster I saw today.

is it a trend to hate on HyperOS?

Because I find no issue in my experience except they did not implement per app language it is Android feature I think since 13+.

You should probably speak to support if it is a system wide issue and there are such lags throughout the UI. I use a iPhone 16 PM and a Xiaomi 15 Ultra, and for me, the Xiaomi is stable and the iPhone isn’t (especially the GPS). Guess it really is a lottery these days.

It’s not about following a trend-it’s about real issues some of us are facing. I’m genuinely happy it’s working well for you, but that doesn’t mean everyone’s having the same experience.

I actually did reach out to support and even sent them this particular video. In return, I got what felt like a beautifully scripted bot reply-like they thanked me for my ‘valuable feedback’ and told me to ‘stay tuned for future updates.’ Basically, the digital equivalent of a shrug.

this is extremely odd that for the majority of people it works perfectly even on low end-mid end phones but for an extremly tiny group of users it do that even on flagships, there’s no logic in this, i think you should wait to see if it fix itself (maybe it’s an app that you installed that’s causing it?)

I get where you’re coming from, but from what I’ve seen so far, around 99% of the replies I received are from users running newer firmware versions, often tied to different regions. On top of that, a few responses came from people not even using a Xiaomi 15 Ultra, which makes it harder to draw consistent comparisons. It’s likely a combination of regional firmware rollout and build variations.

I have the same global version and ROM, and don’t see this stutter or lag. I assume your screen refresh is set to either “auto” or “high” in the display settings? Maybe it’s just me, but forcing it to 60 Hz makes my eyes think it’s stuttering. Does restarting the phone make a difference?

My Xiaomi 14 is much more smooth and efficient then this. It is hyperos 2.1 you need to factory reset after complete clearing cache memory. If that doesn’t work then need to contact Xiaomi customer because this can’t be tolerated on flagship phones.

It’s not a trend, HOS is badly optimized and fully well known.
I’m rocking the X15 and I’m having issues too, issues with the multitask button and the opened apps that are not functioning properly. This issue is also known since MIUI.
Xiaomi isn’t a great software experience, and also lock their phone to custom roms, but they deliver cheap high end hardware.

You’d have a point if the 15 Ultra came with a Mediatek 9300 or weaker processor and was half the price…but it doesn’t. It comes with a SnapDragon Elite and it’s marketed as THE flagship of Xiaomi?

My 14T Pro stuttered a bit like this when I first got it, as it was updating itself. Once all the updates were finished it ran smoothly.

Try manually checking if everything is up to date (not just firmware but the Xiaomi app store too), restart and clear the cache, it might help. If not then I’d definitely look into having it replaced.

I have the same lag sometimes with the Google feed. Sometimes other little glitches in the UI like that. Not a fan of HyperOS either, however it’s not bad but feels a little unoptimized, my X15Ultra gets hot quickly too.

I had the odd stutter and judder on the Xiaomi 15. That and other inconsistencies on HyperOS made me get rid of the phone. Though it wasn’t for the lack of giving the skin a chance. I got rid of the Xiaomi 14 the previous year for mostly the same reasons. Although Xiaomi did manage to iron out some of the issues I had with HyperOS 2 I find the overall experience quite underwhelming compared to other Android skins out there.

My Xiaomi 12 has the same behavior (HyperOs 2.0.2), but I think this is an animation issue of the OS and not really stuttering performance (only happens in this transition of news to the home screen), it’s currently the best processor that ever existed in a smartphone by far.

Xiaomi and Flagship dont go in same sentence…
Xiaomi build nice even high end phones, not flagships sadly…
That stutter is only on your phone, cause i have it and i have zero stutter actually, all goes as a hot butter on a pan…

Stop trying to leave HOS2 in shame position

Probably because originally there was not this Google thing, but a Xiaomi widget panel. No lag at all

    https://preview.redd.it/2x0nkifzzque1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c576f04b98d36fa30c316bf44f348fc698a1e874

Edit: I’m not saying that this is normal, just sharing my experience. Btw, sometimes all buttons disappear in the camera app and I need to restart it. At least the shutter button works even when not displayed

I don’t think it’s related to weather or news updates. The stutter happens during regular Ul interactions.I’ve also tested it on a clean setup with no active widgets or auto-sync running, and the issue still persists. It seems more tied to software optimization or firmware inconsistencies than anything network-related.

Yeah, I agree-the Xiaomi widget panel was definitely smoother. But that’s exactly why this issue is frustrating. Xiaomi has been using the Google Feed on MIUI and global devices for years now, so it’s not something new or untested. There’s really no reason it should be causing lag in 2025, especially on a flagship.

Glad your phone’s gliding like hot butter, but mine’s tripping over its own animations like it forgot how to walk. And no, I’m not ‘shaming’ HyperOS-I’m just not emotionally attached to corporate firmware. Some of you defend Xiaomi harder than you’d defend your own Wi-Fi password. Chill. It’s a phone, not a blood oath.

It’s not a widespread known problem, so it looks like a problem with your particular phone. Running a benchmark will tell you if your phone is working properly as you can compare to other benchmarks of the same phone.

Looks like \~5% lower for single core and something like \~7% lower on multi-core, compared to the GSM benchmarks? [https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi\_15\_ultra-review-2802p4.php](https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_15_ultra-review-2802p4.php) \- your numbers are closer to phones running a dimensity 9400 than a snapdragon 8 elite.

Of course those numbers are still good enough for lagless system UI, but the difference suggests to me that there’s something hogging your system resources. Have you tried factory resetting your phone?

Benchmark numbers fluctuate for a ton of reasons-room temp, background processes, battery level, and I wasn’t even running in performance mode. And sure, if I ran the benchmark multiple times, I’d probably get higher scores. But what’s the point? I’m not going to stress the phone out over something I already know isn’t caused by the CPU or GPU. The animation lag I’m seeing is clearly a software issue. If raw power were the problem, the Pixel 9 Pro would be a slideshow-yet it runs smoother than 99% of phones out there. That’s what real optimization looks like.

If we’re normalizing lag on a flagship by saying ‘every phone has lags,’ then we might as well stop expecting progress altogether. I didn’t drop flagship money to play the ‘at least it works’ game. Standards exist for a reason.

I know what my eyes are looking at & I’m obviously not disagreeing with you, I own this phone as well + many other flagship Ultra phones… None of them & I mean none of them have ever stuttered like this… I haven’t had this on my Xiaomi 15 Ultra either.

That being said, did you set the device up as NEW or did you transfer from a backup?

If you transfer from a backup, it’s possible that software bugs can be transferred. I’d recommend factory resetting & setting up as NEW.

HyperOS doesn’t exactly have a history for being stuttery, it’s quite good. Battery management can certainly be better, though.

It looks like an animation issue , not stutter or lag.
    Both things are different.

I have a Redmi note 12 pro + 5G and it slightly lags when I first do this and when it loads, but then it’s smooth.

    Edit: Wait maybe for updates.

HyperOS shit bro. Nothing to do until devs start to care about user experience. Totally agree with u if you buy the best than you have some standards. I had the poco X6Pro, nothing pro about it and HOS 2, but for you that should not be the case. All phones have some small issues glitches but Xiaomi managed to be the king of issues here. Hate them to my guts. I hope they will loose some market share so they can learn a lesson

Yup, I agree. They definitely could do a better job here. I joined this community several days ago and bought my first Xiaomi 🙂 I don’t have a Google feed on my phone, but I don’t use it anyways

I have an issue with some apps made with dart, flutter and probably other web frameworks (GitHub, steam, etc): my bottom panel is always white in those apps. Sometimes it’s black (as it should be), but it’s just for a very short time after reboot. Then it becomes white again.

    Do you have this issue?

You are trying to make it sound like every Xiaomi flagship has this slight issue. Just because you got a lemon or you experienced a glitch doesn’t mean everyone else is with this model. My 15 ultra UI has been very smooth. You should return your device as it is not working as it should be.

I am not sure if this was the first time you bought something “premium”, but the thing is every kind of electronics can have “inconsistencies” and it has always been a lottery, including the flagship ones. I just had to return my $3000 asus z13 flow tablet earlier because it was DOA. Maybe i should make a post to whine about my super premium flagship tablet overheated and almost caught on fire and burned my fingers the first time i tried to use it.

Appreciate the condescension-really. But I don’t need a lecture on how electronics work, especially not wrapped in passive-aggressive storytelling. I know what a lemon is. I also know what widespread user feedback looks like, and I’m far from the only one reporting this issue.

This isn’t about me being new to ‘premium’ devices-it’s about holding companies accountable for delivering the experience they promised. And comparing a DOA $3000 tablet to consistent UI stutters on a mass-produced flagship is a reach at best, and deflection at worst. If your takeaway from real user feedback is to call it ‘whining,’ maybe you’re not as familiar with premium standards as you think.

You do realise this kind of stutters is likely caused by some underlying hardware issue right? And you do realise most people don’t have this issue at all? It is a lemon, same as my DOA asus tablet, and you should return it while you still can. Else your “premium” device may fail prematurely and turn into a dead device sooner than anyone else’s.

But you don’t like being lectured so do whatever that suits your fancy i suppose.

You keep repeating ‘lemon’ like it’s a magic word that explains everything, but the issue here isn’t some rare hardware defect—it’s the fact that multiple users across regions are reporting the same UI stutters. That points to software inconsistency, not faulty chips.

And sure, I could return it—but pretending this is just about my unit completely misses the point. It’s about a pattern, not an isolated glitch. Dismissing legitimate feedback because your unit works fine is peak tunnel vision.

Also, the whole ‘do whatever suits your fancy’ line? That’s just a fancy way of saying ‘I don’t really have a counterpoint, so here’s some passive sarcasm instead.’ If you’re done offering useful input, maybe take your own advice and move on.

    “multiple users across regions” lol

Any mass produced consumer products are always going to have multiple users with the same issue. And no, just because multiple people experienced the same thing, it doesn’t imply “software inconsistency”. It doesn’t even make any sense. What does software inconsistency even mean? Every Xiaomi 15 Ultra of the same region has the same software to begin with. You know how copying things works in a computer right?

I guess this shows you don’t really know anything and don’t care to understand anything. So no point to continue this conversation. I will move on. Have a great day and enjoy your “premium” device that doesn’t work.

You condescendingly dismissed software inconsistency while completely proving my point. Yes, devices of the same region should have identical software—keyword being should. But real-world rollout behavior, firmware version gaps, background service variations, and even update timing create room for differences, especially in a fragmented ecosystem like Xiaomi’s. That’s what ‘software inconsistency’ means, but thanks for the lecture on how copy-paste works.

Also, your attempt to invalidate broader user reports by reducing them to ‘normal defects’ is a classic dodge. When multiple people experience the same specific issue on a new flagship, it’s not a hardware lottery—it’s a design flaw or optimization failure.

But hey, I get it. You ran out of arguments, so you hit eject with a smug send-off. No worries—I’ll enjoy my ‘premium’ device while companies get better through feedback, not fanboy damage control. Have a great day. And next time, bring facts instead of attitude.

But sure, blame it on my background apps without even knowing what’s running. Talking out of context usually leads to takes like this.

Well it sucks that there is Software issues. If you biught the phone New, maybe you could return it? I heard a lot of positive things about the phone itself since it is pretty good. Xiaomi is one of the newer brands comparing to Samsung. Even Samsung got problems with the one ui7 and people could not even open their phones anymore so they Tool it back. I mean there is always some kind of problems. But we can surely say that xiaomi is making big improvements.

The phone itself is honestly fantastic- build quality, cameras, display, even the overall feel of the device are all top-notch. My frustration is purely with the software side. I didn’t start this thread to trash the phone, but to highlight issues that are holding back an otherwise amazing device. The stutters and random bugs make the experience feel unfinished. One thing I hadn’t mentioned yet-when using scheduled dark/light mode, if you unlock the phone right after it switches from either dark or light, there’s a noticeable delay in the unlock animation. It’s small, but stuff like that takes away from what should feel like a seamless experience.

Well we could also say we don’t know what other apps you’ve installed, what live wallpaper settings you use, what other apps are in the background (recent apps).

If you’re confidently going to complain about inconsistency, you should at least compare the above items first.

So now I need to list every app I’ve ever opened and share what’s in my recents? I could literally name them all-but what exactly would that prove? The video clearly shows a static wallpaper and nothing intensive running. Blaming the user setup every time stutter is mentioned isn’t helping anyone-it just deflects from the real issue: software that clearly still needs polish.

And just to add some perspective-I use a OnePlus 13 as my secondary device, with the exact same apps and setup. That phone runs flawlessly. No stutters, no random lag, nothing. It’s a night-and-day difference. This isn’t about what apps I use-it’s about how well the software is optimized to handle them. HyperOS just isn’t there yet, and brushing that off only normalizes low expectations.

I’ve had [xiaomi.eu](http://xiaomi.eu) builds on my xiaomi mix 4 for years now. it’s the only rom I’d ever run on a xiaomi phone. no issues. hopefully your issues are resolved now, but otherwise go that route.
