Hi everyone!
I do not know if this happens worldwide, but i’m from Spain and when you buy a phone in a Xiaomi Store here this is what happens:
***
The sales clerks are scammers.
WATCH OUT!
We have gone to buy a phone at a Xiaomi Store, and once we proceed with the payment they start asking us for personal information like name, zip code, email… without giving us any kind of explanation. As we believe it has to do with the purchase of the phone, we provide it, until they ask for our bank account number. We ask them for explanations of why they need this information and at no time do they give it to us, they simply comment that it is to manage a FREE insurance that lasts 1 month after the purchase of the phone. We tell them we don’t want it, but they keep insisting that we provide them with the account. Obviously we don’t give it to them and once the purchase is made we leave the store.
Attention now. After 5 minutes, we receive two emails. They are for two subscriptions to two services that WE HAVE NOT REQUESTED AT ANY TIME (Cyrana and Hubside). Xiaomi has registered us, WITHOUT OUR AUTHORIZATION, in these two pages, which after a trial period of 7 days, where they do not specify it clearly, begin to make collections to the bank account. That is why the salespeople were so eager to get the bank account.
BE CAREFUL, DON’T GIVE YOUR BANK ACCOUNT AWAY WHEN THE SALES CLERKS ASK FOR IT. Have them explain the service and inform you correctly. It’s a shame, in this store they are swindlers.
***
Even though “I didn’t fall into the trap” I feel so disgusted and sad about this happening to other people. I just want people to be aware of this so they don’t scammed.
I would highly appreciate if you like my review on Google so it gains visibily:

Thanks a lot!
***Edit:
I have already contacted Xiaomi Spain and Xiaomi international via mail and Instagram, and I have explained all the situation. Screenshot of the messages here:

Thanks a lot to all of you for your advice and support, I really appreciate it!
****Edit 2:
Xiaomi answered saying they do not have anything to do with their official stores, which makes no sense at all:
I don’t know what to do now 🙁
I feel like they have won and they will continue to scam other people.. help please! I need more advice 🙁
Hi. Do not hesitate to give the complete info. Where exactly in Spain? City and all.
I think xiaomi is not in charge of the shops directly but it’s clearly amazing and unbelievable that they do this and we should definitely try to get this to a larger size. I don’t care if xiaomi is not in charge of the shop itself… This spits directly into their image and if this post blows up and gets to some news pages we should definitely get someone responsable for this things guilty.
Please everyone upvote this as it is a real scam that we should really chase off.
EDIT: now I see you posted the maps link. The shop appears to be in Barcelona, Spain. In shopping center Gran Vía.
EDIT 2: Contacting xiaomi Spain yourself is a good idea. But I seriously ask everyone to upvote and comment this post. When we reach enough impact we can send it to some news pages about xiaomi and try and see if they would publish something about the matter. We can really get xiaomi attention this way and it would not be the first time something like this reach the media. We just need to really make enough noise.
EDIT 3: I contacted the xda members that are responsible for the news section and they responded me with a thanks for the heads up. Let’s hope this get published because then i can clearly see xiaomi caring about this. Keep showing the support to the post and we may make a difference here and by the way thanks to everyone who already did.
Hi!
This happened yesterday in Barcelona, the store I went is located in a shopping mall called Gran Vía 2.
I was so disgusted about their behaviour, but if you check out other reviews, there are many people that has been affected, not only myself. They hace been doind this for long and it makes me feel so sick.
I received the emails from this subscriptions and I can read “You have electronically sign our contract” and I didn’t sign anything at all, I just paid by card and didn’t give them my bank account, only my email.
This situation is so sad & it makes me feel
so angry. The phone is cool but they cannot do this type of bad practices 🙁
That’s definitely an asshole sales clerk.
In my country, Xiaomi store sales clerk don’t do something like that. And if we found any scammers like that, we can tell directly to the CEO via social media (usually Instagram) and that sales clerk will probably get fired.
buy online,
and please do call costumer service and report this matter.
this really effect xiaomi name big time.
Wow in georgia .they opened now , so it’s disgusting
How do we report this to Xiaomi ?
Should I contact Xiaomi international? Or Xiaomi Spain?
I think that’s not an official Xiaomi store. In Portugal is the same, stores that use the Xiaomi name even though they are not oficial.
I don’t know how, but I would really appreciate if somebody that knows help me please
spain first..coz if you call global,it will take time and cunfusing to them to get connected to spain branch.
this happen in my area to and yup because of this my friend hate xiaomi.
In Portugal when you buy a phone at their store, they also do these things?
I will try to find how to contact them then and see if they are aware of this situation
Saludos!
The make a deal with the brand and while the shop is not directly under their umbrella I find it difficult that they do agree with this kind of practices.
I don’t know. Xiaomi stuff is too expensive at these stores.
Hola!
No problem here in Thailand
Here in Sweden we don’t have this problem.
Contacting xiaomi Spain yourself is a good idea that I have read down the post. But anyway I seriously ask everyone to upvote and comment this post. When we reach enough impact we can send it to some news pages about xiaomi and technology and try and see if they would publish something about the matter. We can really get xiaomi attention this way and it would not be the first time something like this reach the media. We just need to really make enough noise.
Hmmm…
Having worked for one of these stores (but in the UK), I can tell you they are completely disconnected from Xiaomi (I met the owner of most stores in Spain and several people from Xiaomi HQ).
>
~~Regarding your issue, I would say you dealt with a shitty store employee, I highly doubt the owner/managers are stupid enough to ask their staff to do this (they’re breaking the law in many ways, one being GDPR regulations).~~
>
I have checked the store reviews… Wow! If this is true, these guys outdid themselves ಠ_ಠ
>
Not defending Xiaomi here.
Just cause 1 store did that doesn’t mean “Xiaomi stores are scammers”
It’s just the title, that’s why I explain everything in the text. I don’t mean to place them all under the same umbrella.
Wtf bro id be disappointed af if that would happen
The Mi store in Croatia doesn’t do that. File a complaint for sure.
they sell the same shit ” Hubside etc …” in xiaomi store in Paris but this was my fault i sign the contract thinking it was for a free insurance , i quickly opt-out and i did not had to pay
Wow wild topic
You can’t state xiaomi stores are scammers like that, based on one experience.
I purchased my phone in Portugal, Mistoreportugal, and they asked me if i WANTED a free 30 day trial insurance, to which I said yes, then before the trial ended i called back to cancel it. Eventually they convinced me to stay since it was a good service and i decided I wanted it (again).
Possibily some stores are not as transparent as this one was and for sure I wouldn’t have kept it if they enforced me it but here they were pretty clear.
It’s probably not xiaomi itself but just some overzealous worker or owner, maybe getting commission if he gets details or whatever from those other companies.
Imo this happened to me a few years ago when I went to a CLOTHES store to buy a pair of jeans. They asked me for personal details and email address, I was like nah I’m cool.
They are just fishing for info so they can either do spam themselves or sell/trade it so others can. Never give your details for anything or anyone, I would have thought this would be common knowledge by now in post peak facebook world.
I don’t even want to upload images of myself anywhere anymore, 100% it will get harvested by some web image crawler/downloader bot.
Basically you should expect it now in this day and age of bii data and AI.
We younguns really should know better, we need to educate our parents and grandparents so they don’t get scammed because data harvesters and scammers are everywhere now
So here is the thing. There is NO OFFICIAL Xiaomi store. They are what they call themselves “Authorised Reseller”.So they may ask that to register your purchases to Xiaomi. But of fucking course it’s not their any right to ask for THAT much personal info.
One of Indonesian official offline store did this by including “protective film” in the package and force user to buy it, also bundling sim card on it. After the issue goes viral because everyone reporting it to Xiaomi Indonesia, there’s no more scam like this.

(Luckily, we live in a civilized country. Ask the Data Protection Agency, they will guide you if you want to make a report).
I wouldn’t be surprised if those store employees get paid promotions for having people sign up for those websites
Thats strange, i walked into the closest to official authorized reseller Mi Store in london and bought various bits and had no issues related to info being asked for minus an email. I wish i did go for the Note 8T when i was there instead of the Note 7 online (a year ago i went there too) but still no issues with info being grabbed
An other store subscribed me to hubside without my consent, not only Xiaomi does this scummy practice
Exactly, that’s what I thought. But i’m not against stores offering services, but explain them to the consumers with 100% transparency. I was so shocked because they never talked to me about those subscriptions to those companies, that have nothing to do with Xiaomi, I was so shocked that they were such a liars.
I bought a phone about a month or two ago, but they asked me if I wanted the insurance, it was an official store tho.
Thanks for the heads up
selling private data are so dangerous..imagine this happens to elders..thier money will be steal monthly without they notice about it.
Hey, Portuguese person here. When I bought my Xiami phone they did indeed ask me for some information, including my bank account number, but it seems to have only been for the insurance.
The only emails I got were from the insurance and I have never noticed any unusual debits to my account. The only thing I had to keep in mind was to call the insurance directly to downgrade my insurance to a cheaper plan when the free month was up.
I think contacting customer support or Xiaomi directly would be a good idea, it’s very weird to me that they would sign you up for other stuff.
That does not look like a licensed Mi Zone store.
I bought a Mi Band on sale at a small Mi Zone kiosk at a local shopping center (before it all closed, in I think February?). I asked for it, looked at it, paid and the only reason they wanted my email was for the receipt (our government mandates receipts, either printed or electronic). I gave it to them since it makes it easier to not lose it in case I need to RMA it. No shady sale attempts or anything.
They might be a reseller but not an official one. Cuz when i bought my phone (in Malaysia) they didn’t ask for anything. Just paid and got my phone. Where i actually live they maybe ask for a name and address for warranty or something like that.
I live in Taiwan and frequently use the XiaoMi stores here, never had any problems or bad customer experience. Sucks this happened to you but hopefully its isolated to just this store.
From what i understand at least in Portugal, most atores arent really Xiaomi atores just a private seller that made a deal with Xiaomi and they let them have their name on the store without being directly connected to the seller
That’s the person working there trying to pull scams, not Xiaomi. Hopefully they will be taken care of.
Rogue employee, nothing more than that.
Call your bank, get things straightened up.
Print all the emails, documentation, details.
Bring all these docs and file a police report.
Go to the shop, point fingers, call the manager, show them your documents and tell when and where this happened. They have CCTV. If possible get a copy of it, show them the police report.
I’d check the EU Data Protection Regulation because this really seems like a big no no on their part.
I bought stuff here in Portugal (bracelet and humidity sensor) in a mi store and was not asked for any additional info.
Most are but official Xiaomi stores do exist in various countries in Europe, I don’t know if that one is an official one but that would be something to check.
Report them to Xiaomi!
Commenting, so this post can get more attention.
Edit: grammar
Fuck pccomponentes My amazfit broke and they didn’t want to take it in warranty because they said it was my fault (Spoiler: It wasn’t) even after amazfit told me it was a factory defect.
Xiaomi Stores are independent from xiaomi, but that doesnt mean they can do whatever they want. They’re definitely doing something illegal, maybe you should report them to the local police and to xiaomi.
Authorised Mi Store in Singapore, never had an issue like this.
Maybe it’s some shit like making it count as an online purchase even though you are at the physical store. Or maybe it’s just trying to sell you unnecessary insurance and such.
Next time you buy anything from Xiaomi, use the official site if possible. When I bought a pair of phones my experience was perfect, I received them in less than 48 hours, there was an issue with an extra MiBand I was supposed to receive and they solved in 3 minutes over a quick chat online. They even sent me 2 bands for the trouble and I also received them the very next day. I am extremely staisfied with the online side of Xiaomi.
Hi! I’ve already done that, they have many reviews like mine, other people have been scammed as well 🙁
I buy stuff from the Xiaomi store in my country, that is not in Spain, quite often and it is just pay and go. I just bought Xiaomi’s Airpods clone yesterday and it was still just pay and go.
Pide la hoja de reclamaciones.
So disgusting. You could expect that this could happen if you buy something online but in person?. That’s so disgusting. I hope this post would be read it by people of Xiaomi and do something about it.
Same problem with the same shop. Unsuscribed when I reached home.
They need to be reported, this cannot be legal 🙁
Honestly, I don’t want other people to be suffering this experience.
I have Xiaomi phone and aside from some software issues from some versions i feel like phones are solid.
From my experience i bought my phone at Kiosk … The guy who was selling it was a good fella. He even gave me Mi band on discount as I was build top line Mi 8 Pro back then. So I bought two and guy even tossed free phone jack adapter with headphones to it.
Paid via credit card and the guy even gave me good info about all their phones in stock.
From my perspective I can’t complain especially for the price.
But this is shitty thing to do and Xiaomi should have some oversight over their shops. If people can do shit like that, it gives solid brand bad name, for me their costumer service was definetly better then Iphone or Samsung one.
Op needs to see this
Considering those F…. scammers dare to put ADS in to default apps like folders browser or options or even damn gallery,i am not even surprised about scamms like this anymore
“AH yes,you bought our phone….hmmmm.why dont you makes us even more money with shit ton of ads we put in YOUR phone?huh ,you dont like the ads?weird.why dont you just subscribe on some services you dont even know about then?”
“Insurance upsell” at the cash register used to be pretty common in the UK too.
If you bought any electrical goods in a big box store they would always launch a sales pitch on insurance (with varying degrees of implied necessity) when you came to pay.
Not had it happen in a while now but it used to all the time.
Not saying I don’t believe you but this is really unbelievable. It sounds more like a Spanish store that happens to sell Xiaomi products scamming you than it is a Xiaomi Brand scamming people all over.
I f*cking don’t understand why a company that seems to have products with a good quality/price ratio (writing from a mi9T) needs to do this..
Chinese companies really need to learn some trivial customer psychology..
I have the receipt and the emails, and there are many other reviews if you click in the link of the store complaining about the same thing. I would never fake anything like this, like, why would I waste my time if it’s not real?
I’m really mad at the store I bought it in particular. It’s super true that the devices are cool, but it’s not possible that Xiaomi let’s these stores do these type of illegal practices, like I don’t understand at all 🙁
You are in EU, and there are laws about this. Wasn’t it GDPR? Make sure to visit authorities and get this cleared.
Muchas gracias!!
/u/iwannalearncoding I’m sorry to say but when I lived in Barcelona, I usually went to that same store, located in Gran Via 2 mall, and the experience was absolutely nothing like OP is saying. I purchased devices, home appliances and lots of stuff there, it was my go-to Mi store in Barcelona, and when I got a Mi 9T last year, they, of course, tried to sell me the assurance, but it was optional. They had flyers laying all around and gave me one, asked me to think about it and come back in less than 1 week if I wanted to contract it. This kind of technique is the same I’ve seen for example in completely unrelated tech stores in this same city, such as FNAC Las Arenas, where they tried to convince me to get an assurance for my headphones.
I personally feel like you are making a mountain out of molehill, perhaps you didn’t pay enough attention to what they were offering you at first and accepted unknowingly, or maybe it was the other way around, maybe the storefront guy wasn’t being clear enough and asked you something vague about wanting to get an assurance and upon agreeing, he then kept going with the regular process for it, but I’m quite confident that, at some point, a yes/no question was asked regarding you wanting to get an assurance for the device, because that’s exactly how I got treated the several other times I bought electronics in that same store in specific, and in Barcelona in general.
One last important thing to note, is that all Mi stores in Spain aren’t directly managed by Xiaomi themselves, not even Xiaomi/Mi Spain. For example, Mi Store located in Gran Via 2 is actually managed by BALMORE ATLANTIC, S.L.U. (You can check this in your receipt btw), just like La Maquinista’s, Finestrelles’ & Splau’s stores, whereas other stores like the ones in Granollers and Tarragona are managed by MY TECH RETAIL DISTRIBUTION, SL., and so on and so forth. So, although they use official branding and are licensed by Xiaomi to do business, the ones you should target while putting up a claim are those companies, not Xiaomi. I hope this helps you out.
edit: grammar/spelling
That I didn’t pay enough attention?
Excuse me, but that you had a good experience doesn’t mean they cannot do bad practices. Don’t try to devaluate my problem (and many other people’s problem) because you were lucky to have a good service. I’m being objective and I have arguments to support everything that I’m saying, like I didn’t sign any document\contract/subscription etc… and they say that I did, Ok, I want to see my signature in their documents. It’s so easy to demonstrate that these people are scammers that your comment really offends me. Do you want to see how many people have suffered this scam? Check out their reviews with low rating, they have more than 500 negative reviews about the same issue as mine. So please, be respectful and don’t belittle my situation.
As I said, I’ve never heard or seen a single Xiaomi store scam anyone outside of your account. So it seems like an issue with that store or laws that have to do with your particular country than it is an issue with Xiaomi.
Yup, I sent it and received it repaired without cost. This was just a dick move from pccomponentes who didn’t want to waste 10 min talking with amazfit
Well, first off your GMaps review had something going on, because it’s now deleted and can’t be accessed with the link you provided. Second, I’ve been reading the reviews, just like you asked me, and most of the 1 star ones have something in common, a signature. If you sign a contract, no matter the first month is free or not, it is the consumers responsibility to know what they are being signed up for (yes, I know they are now using the employees phones to do this operation, and it should not be that way, should happen with a physically signed contract. But a signature, although digital, is definitely required). Your situation is particular because you have stated no contracts were signed, but you were told so, and that’s unlawful, but for the rest of the comments they do all have in common having signed the contracts, so although you use them to echo your issue, they were not the same as your particular experience.
When I say “pay attention”, I don’t mean to diminish your problem or situation, what I’m saying is that this is a common practice, not just at Xiaomi stores, and that it is under the consumer’s responsibility to know what they are being signed up for, and if not enough information or clarity is provided, to ask the storefront person that’s managing the transaction or straight up reject it. That’s exactly where they get us all. I am a consumer just like you, I also had to grow eyes on the back of my head in order not to fall to these. Perhaps I just got lucky the more-than-I-can-count times I was offered gadget insurance in a tech store in Barcelona, I don’t know anymore.
Also, do keep in mind the last paragraph of my original answer, these stores are not Xiaomi, they are 3rd parties which happen to have license to have a big chunky logo and sell a certain range of products, but they are absolutely free to sell you whatever else they want, may it be accessories or insurances like these.
I do hope your problem escalates and gets echoed as much as possible, and these stores get their license to be called Mi Stores revoked.
. You are not alone, check the “spam” tag at the reviews, currently there are 31 reporting the same issues or worse.
. I can’t believe that this is a Xiaomi policy, it’s probably related to employee/store commissions and misbehavior (at best).
. ¿Has presentado denuncias a las autoridades en España? Eso, quizás, seria lo primero.
. I agree, the title/topic is misleading, as I wrote before in a comment:
“. I can’t believe that this is a Xiaomi policy, it’s probably related to employee/store commissions and misbehavior (at best).”
To be fair to the reseller. Your best bet is usually going directly to the manufacturer for an in warranty claim.
Some resellers may have an agreement with the company but most won’t.
Obviously it depends on the terms under which you purchased from the reseller
Ahh okey.
I bought my Mi Band 4 in the same store and it shocks me that they have such shitty practices.
Thank goodness I bought my RN7 in MediaMarkt and not there
EDIT: Regarding the free warranty/insurance stuff, iirc they also asked me if I wanted it. They didn’t ask me any personal info (luckily) before rejecting it.
There are no official stores of Xiaomi.Only in china.Rest are *cough cough* “Authorized Reseller”
I bought phone from quite a helpful salesman at FNAC in Porto a few weeks ago. He offered me insurance, told me he uses it himself, but wasn’t pushy or deceptive like the OP.
ENG: A spanish like me reading this in English xD
most of the Xiaomi stores you see around the world are only distributors, not directly connected with Xiaomi. So, any management dealt with that store is not a liability of Xiaomi. It’s like they buy from Xiaomi, then re-sell it.
First off you messed up by going to the store, whenever I’m interested in a new phone I go to the store to look at it, see what options I have depending on my budget. After I know the phone I want to get I wave bye bye to the store clerk and buy it on Amazon or Ebay saving me money and hassle.
The store wanted 399.99$ (Mi 9T Pro) plus tax and I got it for 359.99$ plus tax off Amazon.
The store always has to make their cut (in this case it looks like the the store clerk wanted to pull off some fraud), stay away from stores when it comes to phones.
In this sub they are too many fanboys…
If you’re experiencing some problems with a xiaomi device, you can’t even describe the problem without being downvoted.. I’m actually glad the post itself is somehow upvoted.. I bet that you this post would have gather more votes (I mean it would have been more visible – I don’t care the points and it’s what it matters to make things change).
Anyway thanks for having shared this bad experience..
It says the review is not available. What name did you use b/c I can go through the 1 ratings and like it.
I took a look at the reviews of that place (and can understand all of them, am glad that my Spanish is good enough) and found that many experienced the same thing and they replied mostly by “Sorry for the bad experience. Please contact us at [email protected]“. I went to bymitu.com and found out that they’re an authorised reseller of Xiaomi Spain. Maybe you can also try contacting them (although I have a hunch that this is just their standard business practice) in addition to Xiaomi Spain.
There is no such thing in my country and it’s european as well. Why they don’t try this with me? I never get to experience this kind of bullshit.
True, I’ve seen a lot of unofficial stores put up a giant Mi logo and sell exclusively Xiaomi products.
I’m going to write as well to the municipal consumer information office, and maybe I should search for the one that you are saying, thanks!
Same thing happened to me. Xiaomi store in Madrid, Parquesur mall. Shady shady dealings, I had to specifically ask them why they wanted my bank account number, three times, until they told me about the insurance cost, and then I had to make them cancel everything and told them I thought it was shameful and a shady dirty practice. I left very angry. Even if the phone I took was good and it’s working fine, I left with a tainted impression of the whole brand.
It’s definitely not a rogue employer because I had the EXACT same experience on another Xiaomi store all the way to Madrid, pretty far from the OP.
I had the same EXACT experience on a store hundreds of kilometers away, in Madrid.
Oh, they ARE part of the same chain, so you’d expect all the Bymitu stores to try the same scam! [https://bymitu.com/content/tiendas](https://bymitu.com/content/tiendas)
En burbuja?
I don’t understand why Xiami let their stores do these type of stuff. It’s crazy.
I was scammed in a similar way by an unofficial Movistar store in Buenos Aires. They claimed to be an official service, and then proceeded to sign me up for services I didn’t ask, when I was trying to do something else.
I had to go to a proper Movistar store to undo what they did. And had to pay a cancellation fee.
It’s very likely to be an unofficial reseller masking as a proper one.
He gets a cut, a bonus, everytime he sells insurance
I’m sure you’re right but, as I said, he was polite, helpful and wasn’t pushy. He told me the price and invited me to take it or leave it.
I dropped the phone and cracked the screen within 3 weeks so, in hindsight, would have been better taking it.
