The Xiaomi 15 Non ULTRA has impressed me in almost all departments with the camera for photos and videos in both day and night…. Until I found this absolutely bizzare BUG!
This is a major image processing bug that only affects the main camera and that too only when I point the camera towards the sun in the horizon. It only affects the main camera and only in this situation.
Can someone please confirm this behavior. Test in afternoon to emulate the same scene.
Device: Xiaomi 15
HyperOS : 2.0.107.0.VOCINXM
Camera: 5.4.001130.1
Can someone confirm this behavior please. This is the Xiaomi 15 Non-Ultra.
Due to AI may be, some comparison videos also had similar issues. But hardly any reviewer mentioned this.
Have taken photos in sunlight pointing towards sun from xiaomi 14 and I thought images looks softer than images taken when sun is behind the camera. I didn’t pay attention until I saw this video. There is definitely some kind of processing or HDR issue.
I have zero complaints with photos. It’s been just very satisfactory in almost all conditions.
But this is affecting videos! That too only the main camera and only this specific scenario. It does not affect the tele camera and the tele camera in this scenario takes awesome quality videos with great details and no oversharpening.
The main camera is affected with this bizzare image processing bug. Random spots in the video are just incomplete blurry blob. At first I ignored it, but last couple of days I did some controlled testing and it is absolutely repeatable!
In these scenarios the much weaker tele sensor is blowing away the main sensor with much better details and processing.
It’s sooo bizzare. I am enjoying the camera performance a lot, but this bug is really pinching me as long as it is not fixed. That’s because I really like taking this type of videos in dolby vision HDR.
It affects the main camera in pro video mode, pro video mode with LOG, normal mode, normal mode with Dolby vision and normal mode with Master Cinema when I point it towards the sun in the horizon.
I don’t have any such issue with mine
Please test in this kind of high dynamic range scenario. For me it’s extremely repeatable and the issue goes away when the sun starts to set and it’s no longer this intensive.
Give feedback on xiaomi services + app
Photos I am talking is also from main camera haven’t noticed this from other 2 cameras. Video haven’t noticed again since I don’t take many videos. However I am going to observe this while taking videos.
Software issue. Including Xiaomi 14
i hate when so many AI and shit filters are interfiering with video or photos…. why they just make a phone without that shit….

This is a different scene. The intensity of the sun is very less, even I have shot videos like these with no issues.
You have to point it towards the sun during afternoon golden hour, pretty heavy dynamic range scene and the issues will crop up in the foreground backlit elements, particularly areas where the sun is either getting reflected or passing through translucent objects.
People learning about limitations of a small sensor and a high dynamic range scene
Sometimes I notice something close with photos, but it’s probably more lens related
Hmm
This has nothing to do with sensor size, then how do you explain why the issue does not exist with the “even much smaller” telephoto sensor?
I have shown in the video that the telephoto sensor has no issues in the same situation and in fact captures way more details.
Do not redeem it
That’s not a bug, that’s just that you found a place where the textures aren’t property loaded, sometimes this happens.
Hahaha 😂
