Randomly decided to try out the Portrait mode. I have yet to test it out on another human but very impressed but how it did with this popsicle.
I held my hand a bit further away from the camera in the second pic, but apart from that they were taken under the same conditions.
Did not edit the image, and I’m using the original camera app.
Focuses your attention more pretty neat
I love these comparison pics.
That looks great! How would you rate the Xiaomi A1?
I currently own a Redmi 4x but I like taking pictures too and I can’t say it’s the best device for that
Awesome once you install GCam (which doesn’t even require root). You can use both stock camera & GCam depending upon the condition & requirement.
That sounds great! Looking forward to seeing new pictures shot on the A1
‘Portrait’-Mode looks horrible to me.
I love this phone camera (price relative), standard and portrait mode are solid. It’s very mediocre in low light but that’s to be expected with most any phone camera
where is portrait mode? :/ i have mi mix 2 and can’t find the setting 😕
How do you get it to work on objects? It only works for people when i use it otherwise it just leaves it as normal. What version are you running?
Agreed. Looks like the blur effect from instagram to me. I prefer the looks of the left photo.
Best deal on the market if you want stock Android.
The redmi 4x is not a good camera phone at all, but install google camera if you haven’t already. It drastically improves the photo quality and makes it decent for some casual photos in good lighting condition
I mean, you can take a few good pictures, check my IG account (I obviously edited them but hey, not so bad) @giovanninicchia
Objects aren’t what I’d use portrait mode for. Portrait mode on A1 shines with objects that are bigger and around 4 meters far away, like shooting humans.
Colour saturation and contrast looks a lot better in the original, compared to the portrait mode.
Better without
I prefer without
yeah the sensor is decent for social networks i guess, but low light photos are pretty bad
Hmm, haven’t had a chance to photograph someone! Maybe someone else can post a comparison?
Hmm. I can’t recall doing anything special. I had to almost fully extend my arm for this shot though.
I’m running the latest version of Android provided.
Agreed.
I agree that the background blur is a bit much, but like other camera fads it’s just something fun. 🙂
Yep, definitely not great in lowlight, but that’s what I use my actual camera for anyway.
I think it does fine for most pictures. If you’d like to see some pics I have posted a fair few on my personal [instagram](https://www.instagram.com/heyitsying/). Sorry it’s private but everything after May 31 was taken with my A1. I think it’s a good example of what the camera can do.
If you look through my images you can tell that it’s terrible in lowlight.
Hope people post more stuff like this!
Looks like a chicken nugget on a stick..
It was actually a slice of mango with some syrup on it.
I discovered it a few months ago, and took an amazing photo of my girlfriend by chance..well, now all my friends are asking for me to take pictures all the time. It’s quite an amazing feature.
But what is with the gcam, what’s that?
Focus on the object you are trying to take a picture of… If need be, try several times until it works
How do you install gcam without root on m1a1?

Are you running the latest May update?
It’s my wife’s phone so i will check when I get home
Maybe it needs 2 cameras? I think the second one is used to determine depth so that the phone knows what should be blurred and what shouldn’t.
Posible. I have only 1.
Imo its better to take a “normal” photo and then edit it in other program like photoshop
Gcam is Google camera.
It really improves night photography of mi a1
One for each. 😛
yeah, i tried to install it but doesn’t seem to do nothing
It’s not a straight forward process
