I cant attach pictures to my post beacuse this subreddit doesnt allow it, so ill just link a photo of the new Redmi Note 14 series.
I dont know what is happening over at xiaomi, but it has to stop. The designs of their newest phones are horrendous, especially compared to older models. The trend of huge camera modules in the middle of the phone cant apply to all phones and all circumstances, and the Note 14 series is a good example. In my opinion, those phones look terrible. And its not just the Note 14 series, they also ruined the 14T series, Poco F6 pro and X6 pro, and theyre not stopping. All of these phones either look like stovetops or a poor attempt at creating an iconic design language. And yes, i know that this weird circle square shape is the shape of the Mi logo itself, but theyre exaggerating.
The only truly beautiful phones theyve released in these last years are the Note 13 pro+ (it has a very clean look, good camera layout and is comfortable in hand), The base Poco F6 (yet again a very simple design with a good camera layout, and a ring flashlight) and the 13T series (its not the best but its definitely an underdtandable design, and its unique).
If you’re making a huge center camera at least make it bigger than 1 inch and support external lenses.
I agree ,it really looks like vivo/iqoo phones but bad
whats wrong with 14t design? i like it
I rather have a dual camera setup rather than this quad-like setup.
I liked how nothing only had two and those two both were 50MPs.
The phone is way too square and the camera layout looks like a big stovetop, its not attractive at all. The 13T and 12T are way better, and the 12T used to resemble the Xiaomi 12, the flagship, which made it look even better.
Ehh, I never really cared about that part too much cuz I always use a case and usually a wallet style one, so apart from the screen and general shape of the edges… I dot really see the rest of the phone.
As long as a cover can also easily cover the area of the camera to hopefully help protect it.
As for camera placement I’d rather have it centered at top then have it on the side,to avoid phone wobble.
I like the design, but preferences are individual.
Looks good to me.
*Redmi A3 and Redmi 14C looks around nervously*
I don’t get worked up and like some others, I’m cool with it.
The K70/Pro/F6 pro looked better
The change from the round to camera angular camera frame is very odd
If they made most ugly phone ever existed and software wise it would be good, with good battery, top camera, flagship, good build quality, I would still get it, but you can’t get everything so here you are, new stew for you!
They don’t design anything they rip off.
Phones not suppose to be about looks but function.
I would rather they focus on stop doing odd pairing of parts and flagships have features removed also sort out firmware/software.
I agree, i also prefer functionality and user experience over design, but to an extent. I would definitely be satisfied with a good quality phone but then be disappointed when i turn it around and look at the back. And this isnt a matter of “you sacrifice something for something else”, xiaomi has made some gorgeous phones in the past. The xiaomi 12 series looked amazing, imo, same goes for the 13 series, the mi 11 series, the mi 10 ultra, those were all beautiful phones with good hardware too.
You dont get it man, it took courage for them to come up with this design.
I like but prefer Xiaomi 14 design
Can we just get rid of the protruding cameras and make them flush with the body?
I think very much without consistency, this series Redmi Note 14 I would find more coherent in the Xiaomi 14 line, but what bothers me most is the design stove of 4 mouths that they are putting in everything, it is deplorable, in the Xiaomi Fold so it is an ultratje compared to the fold 2. the series number 13 (xioami 13, 13t, note 13) were the most beautiful but apparently it was only lucky to see something very good, because even the module of the Xiaomi 13 is present in some tablets, they will apparently abandon this one. Desing
They’re copying BBK phones, aka Oppo and Vivo and RealMe because that’s their current main local competitors.
9T Pro/K20 Pro was peak xiaomi.
Change my mind.
Camera lens , 4mm. Camera bump, half of the back 😂
Xiaomi design peaked with the Mi Mix series.
Too bad they stopped releasing them worldwide.
Yup. My last xiaomi was a 9t pro and before that a Mi mix. We need a new xiaomi without camera on the screen…
Swapped mine for a Nubia z60 ultra.
Cant stand the hole in screen so i needed to move from xiaomi. Im just hoping for a similar release like 9t pro in the future… It was the perfect phone. I was using it for 6 years. Sadly the battery gave up but thats it. Everything else was working for 6 years 0 problems.
Best phone i have ever used in my life.
Also why would they get rid of the motorized camera? Never had any problem with it.. It was perfect.
Can’t change. The Mi 9T was my last Xiaomi phone and it was one of the prettiest ones I’ve owned. Front and back! Glacial blue – people turned their heads when saw it.
Mi 12 pro is peak
Agreed. 12, 12 pro and 12X was peak xiaomi design
Quad camera was trash,I better have single camera on back but with Sony quality than multiple cameras.
This trend of 4 cameras itself has to stop, nobody uses a macro anyway, just give us Main and ultrawide, and make them better with what you save from the macro
I guess you could want a telephoto too, but really I never saw a situation where I was “Damn, I wish I had a telephoto”
2 sensors and flash, either in a horizontal line like the old Notes or current pixels, or a vertical like Samsung, which imo has had the best looking phones for a while
Squircle FTW
But seriously the phone design looks weird, because the phone’s body is rectangular and the camera array is squircle shaped.
Haha, same! Didn’t wanna take it out of it’s case at first.
I would love it if they went something similar to the Tecno Camon 30 series camera, but using Xiaomi’s own back finish. Not a fan of their induction stove meta we’ve been seeing in 2024’s Xiaomi/Poco/Redmi phones.
I also hate those kind of designs, but love the circular ones like the Mi13 Ultra. I always did, since the Lumia 1020.
They just throw out as many designs as possible now days, no consistently, no identity, no design language that is their own. This is why xiaomi phones are still so unrecognisable to many people
I would argue qc sd 845/855 era phones were peak Xiaomi and android overall. The cost adventage of going the xiaomi route was significant, now xiaomi flagships are more expensive than samsung. Also feel like those chips were great for phones, all advancements after that barely converted to better experience of using a phone, and covid era shortages were a huge stepback in terms of cost per relative soc goodness in terms of where it was before, especially at the lower end, where they used to sell “flagship killers” with sd860/sd870 they started selling some mediatek shit or sd695.
Design trends just went to making the camera array as ridiculous as possible, like a rumor for domagoj dukec or whatever the name is and bmw, went for the ridiculous grill design to appeal to a chinese consumer because there were other big grill cars and is almost like dick measuring contest for chinese to have a car with the biggest beaver tooth car.
The 13 ultra and 14 ultra are pretty, i also like them, but this huge circular camera module trend was adopted by way too many phones, not just xiaomi, but the note 14 series is a terrible execution.
Yeah I have the 12T and looking for a new phone. Not going for the newer models because of the ugly gigantic camera layout. For the first time in 6 years Im thinking aobut moving away from Xiaomi.
Nobody cares with the back side.
Cannon EF lens mount ?
I tot many new phone design r like this. Even iphone ?
Is this an Honor phone? 😀
Still look better than the last 3gen of iphones that look exactly the same.
How can you have a dual cam setup when you need :
1. Telephoto lens
2. Wide lens
3. Ultrawide lens
4. Macro lens.
macro is took using tele/ultrawide lens…
Tele lens cannot focus at that distance. Wide angle same thing.
This phone doesn’t have a telephoto lens or a proper macro lens (2mp is useless), so dual camera setup was enough here.
Also for Macro, some are using their ultrawide to do so (ultrawide has to have autofocus though).
You are talking nonsense… I said ultrawide (not wide) which can focus macro distances almost certainly if it’s equipped with focus on all phones.
Tele lenses are preferred for macro nowadays their focus range is made with macro in mind. (Vivo, Xiaomi does it)
My mi 10t pro is equipped with shitty macro lens which was basically one of the first tele lenses use for macro, but phones like 100x ultra can take macros with full fledged tele lenses
You obviously don’t have a clue how optics and camera lenses work and their respective mfd based on focal length.
Neither can telephoto or wideangle (or wide) achieve a macro 1:1 shot at their respective focal lengths that smartphones cameras use. You probably even think that when you pinch in your photos with the wide angle lens you are actually zooming in?
Begone
Erh..jeez… 2mp isn’t a macro lens🤣
Macro lenses need to have a 1:1 sensor to subject ratio to focus. It’s a specially designed piece of optics to focus at that distance.
Long story short. If you want a proper tele, wide , uwa and macro lens … You need a dedicated optic for that thus it will need 4 lenses. Plus flash.
Bye
Of the Redmi series, the Note 10 Pro thanks to the screen and the cameras even if the Note 8 Pro could be another given how snappy it was (and still is).
As opposed to what? Camera bumps are pretty much the only thing that you can see the difference between various smartphones.
🫤🫤🫤
The 9T/K20 Pro was peak smartphone.
My only regret after 5+ years is that I went with a 64gb 9T non pro.
I only bought a new phone because I was constantly running out of space, but I still use the 9t as much as possible.
The macro cameras are also wide angles as the main camera is. Sometimes they have autofocus (Redmi Note 9 Pro, for example).
The Note 10 Pro has a “telemacro” lens that can take some nice close-ups, but the 1:1 relationship you note and that I have looked up (I prefer landscape photography or messing with long telephotos) looks too much for a smartphone camera.
The macro you are writing about is nothing more than a crop into the sensor. It’s not a macro. Anyways there is a reason why professional cameras need interchangeable lenses to achieve different photos/videos. Smartphones can never replicate that optical quality but achieve some compromise by inserting 3-4-5 lenses to then try to utilize the small sensor to the maximum. A dual lens smartphone has really mediocre possiblity. And the things you call wide, tele, macro uwa are infact just crops into the already limited small sensor.
Ultrawide is the default lens for taking macro shots on most phones (on my p8 for example), mi 13t (pro) can take macro shots with tele lens…
Don’t play smart, if you don’t know anything about the subject, you’ll look like a fool. The irony is you’re superficial on top of that, really ridiculous.
In case you want to say sorry for your puffery, just edit yr comment, no need to post new one 😉

Macro photography (close-up photography) is not tied to focal length… Doesn’t matter if 100mm equivalent setup in Vivo x100 pro is used or UW lens of iPhone 16 pro is used (13mm).
Ofc but you need to be closer with iphone but results of both is macro.
I know. I still have an old analogic DSLR and the lenses I bought for it, from a 20mm ultrawide to a 500mm telephoto and passing in a fast 50mm, and one of those superzoom cameras even if with a small sensor you can’t expect the same with a DSLR.
🤣🤣
There is no uwa macro lens in existence on earth. Maybe on your planet only.
That is a crop, not a macro
>uwa macro lens in existence on earth
Tell me where i said it is 🙂
Hey im glad we agree 👍
In the first sentence
Honestly i really like the note 13 and 13 pro 4g designs. They are just really simple and clean.
I agree, but were talking about what xiaomi seems to be doing, they started adopting a very ugly design language across all devices.
Yeah I also agree with that. That is the reason why I didn’t get a note 13 pro 5g instead of 4g.
The 5g variants are, in my opinion, just as good looking as the 4g variants. No reason to go for a 4g. But everyone is entitled to an opinion and their own choice.
Its radmi what do you expect for 300
Mi 11 Ultra.*
Well at least we all agree on 14 series looks like shi
I had Elephone with popup camera, after that i bought 9t pro, i still have both, no problems with cameras. I really dont get it why those popup didnt stick. At the time i was using those phones everyone was just like “nah its nonsense it will break soon”. Well it didnt and i havent heard that there were massive probs
i tried holding the Mi 14 Ultra and it was heck uncomfortable, I can’t imagine mid range phone users trying to get used to this design without calling the attention of people for a phone with no flagship features
Motorized cameras took up too much space in phones, so batteries would have to be smaller in order for the motherboard to fit. They also compromised water proofing a bit, and they were also a bit fragile.
I hate these designs too. I prefer Samsung designs because they are simple
These phones are completely shit to hold if you’re a landscape-orientation gamer. And I’m pretty sure those massive camera modules would interfere with using telescopic game controllers.
Best design IMO is Mi Mix 1.
After that it all just kinda looked like a mish mash of iphone and samsung galaxy.
I own one too, as backup device. It still holds well, especially for basic purposes, even if my unit at least overheats easily especially in summer.
Was waiting for these phones to come out but will be buying something different i think. fuck curved screens.
does the vivo x100 ultra look good?
I still have the redmi note 8 pro, such a gem..
Still have my K20 Pro on a custom ROM. I only boot it up every month to update it and play with the camera module.
Just tack on a high-refresh display and it’s the perfect mid-range today too.
Having a big camera module always helps with being able to put in big sensors. Making them centred and big means it won’t wobble on a table. It’s a win win.
People like different kinds of designs, it varies for each individual, but, from a usage/feel stand point this design is a pretty safe bet.
OMG, yes that was the only phone I had by them and it was fantastic. Screen randomly died tho 🙁
Best design ever was 11 ultra.
yuppp…huge camera means nothing if the result still sh*t
> Rear Camera 200-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 2-megapixel
Love it haha, they make the design to look like a 14Ultra or a flagship cameraphone, but instead they are hiding underneath some crappy 8+2mpx macro. Xiaomi please stop!!!
Do you remember the Xiaomi Mi9T era ? They peaked in design.
To their credit, like 90% of all phones on the market are doing this. I seriously doubt any brands are intentionaly “designing” their phones in such way, but there’s simply no other way to create a thin phone that has ulta-mega-badass-super camera in it. And it just so happens that consumers want thin phones for whatever reason, and they also want good cameras.
Besides, once you put a case on it, the problem disappears anyway, so it’s really not a big issue.
Look like a cow udders.
Mi 11 for me
Mix 2s in my opinion. Beautiful slab of glass and ceramic.
It can but it’s still more prone to burn in.
That and the weight of the phones!
I’ve a mi 11 lite that’s truly a blessing in terms of size and weight, but I know I’m going to suffer when I have to replace it.
We can’t normalize huge phones weighing 180gr plus. Some weight 200gr plus. That not normal.
Curved display should have never happened. Owner of a oneplus 7 pro and curently s21ultra.
Nowadays it’s garbage.
Me too, small and light. Only my battery died
The purple color on the mint body would be sexy
Poco F6? Are you serious? Imo that’s the most hideous back I’ve seen of ANY phone.
Its not that bad. Its simple and has a simple camera setup, and the ring flashlight. It looks fine. Xiaomi has definitely made WAY uglier phones than the F6.
The camera modules are huge for no reason at all, really I… I own a redmi pad pro and it’s the same design. But at least redmi pad pro has a large back size. The Poco F6… Omg…
my rt touch was broken so replaced for 10tpro and it has hole in the screen on the left and it doesn;’t bother me
Aw ye, the ones with side camera islands are much better, barely usable on a desk, but atleast you think its better
The designer loves to cook, that’s why the stove burner style camera bump is so there thing
I agree but The 14 is so beautiful
Xiaomi is the only company that makes cameras on their Ultra flagships reasonably large, but at the same time makes huge circles around cameras on other phones, that are no bigger than iPhone X cameras
In my case I went with an Asus zenfone 7 pro. Stock ROM is similar to pixel phones and 3rd party launchers are compatible with full screen gestures. Sadly ASUS devices are plagued with hardware issues (had to reball the cpu due to ramdump issue, died again few months later). Ending is I went back to k20 pro as my daily driver.
fnaf
Still using it as there is nothing currently that can replace it
Everything phone design except Samsung, iPhone and some Google phones like like kids toys. Expensive yet ugly and cheap looking.
