I have an Ultra 15 bought in Malaysia, running VOAMIXM 2.0.6.0
I notice the EU models get a lot more frequent updates – I haven’t gotten a single one so far.
Is it possible to switch to the VOAEUXM rom on my phone? If so, how?

*Techincally* yes, but you’ll have to unlock the bootloader and manually flash the EU ROM with [Fastboot](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fastboot) which can be tedious as it takes 7 full days to unlock (yes, really) before you even do anything.
It also voids your warranty, so don’t expect to be covered if anything goes wrong, it’s surprisingly easy to brick a device if you don’t know what you’re doing. [Xiaomi’s site](http://xiaomi.eu) is probably your best bet to get started if you need help.
*Side note: The EU ROM does get more updates but expect them to be region-specific or so minor it’s not even a problem if you don’t switch.*
So bottom line is, don’t worry about the updates and wait for Xiaomi to release one for your region? I guess the million dollar question is when is Xiaomi going to release the first update for the VOAMIXM version?
You can switch. It will involve unlocking the bootloader, and flashing the EU ROM via fastboot/mi flash. You can also relock the bootloader on the EU ROM to receive updates. I would stick with the global ROM though.
Why, may I ask? Is it because there is too much hassle/risk and little to gain? Thanks
I need to be on the latest security updates, else I can log into my work profile if the phones security updates are too old.
I haven’t come across a workplace checking for phone with latest security update. But there is always a first time.
Most tech companies enforce it (FAANG etc)
Good to know. What is the tolerance level i.e we are now in April and phone is showing Jan and if no further update for another month, would your company start to prevent access?
I already have my access blocked. We went from requiring 3 month security updates to monthly.
I like the X15U for the camera, so I instead use a Pixel phone for work now, as they push security updates monthly.
Wow only pixel would comply then because even iPhone and Samsung are not punctual with money security updates.
Also, any device specific updates from the base region will not be received – only the ones from the rom maintainer. In addition, it doesn’t usually change the available radio bands which are usually firmware – which you can flash also but things get much riskier doing so.
I also have this version imported to Canada and it initially was loaded with 2.0.2.0. The first update was to 2.0.6.0. Xiaomi is currently in beta testing a camera and HyperOS 2.1 update. It’s slowly rolling out to EEU region so I suspect it’ll come around to ours soon.
Thanks. Where did you see the beta testing camera and HyperOS 2.1 update and do you know which version that will be? Are both camera improvement and hyperos 2.1 in a same update? 2.0.103?
There’s an official HyperOS update thread that is updated daily. The 15 Ultra with our region software recently went from 2.0.6.0 to 2.0.103.0 in beta.

Camera update was noted in the Chinese version beta on twitter so it should also be the case for the global models soon. Might be a separate update.

The Xiaomi camera app also gets updates separately through GetApps which may also contain photo improvements.
Thanks mate. The Chinese update is quite substantial at 1GB.
Wanted to update you that my phone just received the 2.0.103 update today. Came in at 1.4 GB and included the March 2025 security patch. It is now on HyperOS 2.1 so will have to experiment and see the new features and if any previous issues may have been addressed.
Thanks mate. Please feedback on what you find vs previous firmware, especially in camera and general OS improvements also if there are any new features.
