The iphone x camera design is rather unsettling. The phone design isn’t symmetrical and it’s really bugging me. It would have worked if the fingerprint sensor was either aligned to the left or if it was integrated to screen like Vivo did. It looks much better in the black version though.
You really were expecting all of that on a $200 phone?
I’d expect recording 4k video at least, seeing how my note 3 seems to do it just fine?
Quick charging would be nice too, but not necessarily expecting it.
I mean for the price, you’re already getting much more than normal…
When you mess with the kernel, Quick Charge should work, shouldnt it?
You can record 4K on RN4 with Open Camera. I reckon you can do it on RN5 Pro too.
It may be coming.
Who on earth needs USB Type C, 4k Video on a SMARTHPHONE and quick charge (wich ruins your battery in the long run)? Seriously, the Note 5 Pro is probably one of the best phones Xiaomi has released in a while for only 200$.
The 4k video has been confirmed ? By one of the mi india empoyees.
Why are manufacturers still using micro-USB in 2018? I couldn’t care less about the other stuff.
It has to do with the regions those phones are being marketed at.
India, China, Eastern Europe, all those regions are still mostly using micro USB, and to be honest, it’s not that big of a deal breaker. There are adapters from anything to everything.
Also, the components for USB-C are quite more expensive if I’m not mistaken. So for budget phones, it makes sense to omit it.
Out of all three, I would’ve expected USB-C to come, but noooo.
I don’t see why the redmi note 5 pro cannot record in 4k when the redmi 5 plus can.
Yep, you are right, but some people don’t get that they are only paying 200 bucks for an amazing capable phone, and than no other company is given you this kind of deals.
Why wouldn’t you want type C?
Just a personal reason, but my friends, relatives and I still operate under microusb except for those 3 apples users.
I have a camera with micro, so I won’t be ditching that for a while.
Give it a year and everything will be c and you will wish you had gone with it
Because it’s irrelevant for me. I just want to charge my phone with the cable, that’s all.
Don’t you want to plug it in the right way round first time?
That’s not how adoption works lol. I still need to get rid of my camera before the change is worth it.
Can’t you just have 2 cables?
What’s the point? To get fast charge when I only charge it over night anyways?
Type C doesn’t give you fast charge
Just so you can plug it in the right way round
I live in Australia. There is no right way when you live upside down.
Haha, well, that’s not something I will think about when buying a phone.
It supports quick charge 2.0 & 4k will be enabled thro OTA along with face unlock.
It can and that janu guy confirmed that it will be enabled through OTA. Has quick charge 2.0 too. Looks like op didn’t do much research xD
The specs say qc2.0 and 5V2A charging… So I’m not sure what’s going on lol.
Mi A1 is similarly priced but comes with USB C.
We won’t be seeing Usb C on Xiaomi’s budget Redmi lineup anytime soon.
please don’t become like the whinging americans on r/android. If you want all that, the next cheapest phone is 5t
I like everything on note 5 pro except micro usb.
Oh man, I can’t wait for comparisons to that. Like, I’m only being half sarcastic here, because I legitimately want to see the almost 280usd price difference.
Mi vs Redmi.
Not a good idea, it can cause issues for the phone and stop charging all together. As well as extreme overheating.
It has a 5V2A charger out of the box. You need to purchase a 9V charger separately.
The phone does support QC2.0 though
Huh… That is clearer. Thanks! Their website info is quite confusing…
True that. But im wondering how many people see micro usb as a deal breaker.
I totally don’t give a damn about a budget phone’s looks. But thats just me.
Upvoted for your efforts but looks like 4k is on the way and it does support 2.0 quick charging. But yea wish it had type-c and at the same time im happy they didn’t shove another sd625 or sd630 down our throats.
can the chipset handle 4k video?
I feel they’ve catered to demands of the redmi fans. Not sure why Mi fans sound so disappointed. Id much rather wait for the next mia1 instead of complaining.
Sd636? Yes. Seems it will be enabled in future updates. But they could’ve mentioned tat during the event.
Mi lovers are barking up the wrong tree this time
It supports quick charging 2.0 according to the mi website. Id just buy the charger.
Same! Thats the only thing we can’t fix ourselves 😀
It is for me. RN3 is gonna last me another year
RN3? Damn please upgrade, it’s so necessary 😜
What are the chances?
Can someone explain to me what is so awesome about USB type C?
I am pretty tired of it tbh.
Regular Redmi note 5 has 4k video (looks like pro will be getting 4k video in an update tho), Mi A1 has USB-C, both are cheaper than RMN5 Pro, and FWIW both of those have better design than the Pro if you ask me.
Yea, i havent tried nor said it was a good idea.
Wait, what? Do most people actually try plugging their phones’ microusbs both ways every time without knowing which way it should go? Since the first time I’ve plugged the USB cable in my RN4 I know which way it goes. Since then I’ve never tried to plug it the wrong way. You either look at the connector or just touch it to find the little bumps on it. I find it kind of effortless.
The target demographic likely has gone through several cheap, older phones and accumalated several micro USB cables. Honestly it would be a dealbreaker to *not* have it for many due to the inconveniece of having all your cable become obsolete.
Even with USB C I still hit the area around the port. It’s not much of an improvement personally.
I’d rather not have to find the bumps
I agree with most people here. Too much hate for that phone. What were people expecting? No need to judge that phone yet. The important questions are:
– How will the SD636 perform?
– And also important: What about the battery performance? Better or worse than the SD625 phones?
– How will the camera perform on a daily basis? The official sample images look promising (as always).
The one big letdown (as usual) with this phone is Android 7.1.2 and not 8. No Treble (probably). With Treble support this phone would probably be an absolute must-buy for everyone who really is into Xiaomi. I’m considering it as a secondary device as I personally don’t like such big phones as daily drivers. But if the camera is okay it’s perfect for city trips. Big screen, large battery, good connectivity.
money, boy.
It’s why the A1 and hopefully the A2 exists. It has these things, but it cost money. Money, do you comply?
It plugs in any direction and faster transfer speeds
And higher durability. Micro usb is always the first component to fail on my phones.
At least it doesn’t have a sd625
Hey spastic babies. Go buy an iPhone. Seriously.
If USB-c is a deal breaking you are seriously misguided in what’s important…
Is it me or is this whole thing about what the RN5P is missing, is getting hijacked here???
> Mi A1 is similarly priced but comes with USB C.
Its internals are also different so the calculations will be different.
RAM modules are different, storage options are different, SoC is different (this alone is factor enough), battery module and internal chamber space issues. And still the price is 14K which even for a budget one isn’t really cheap, its in the dead-middle zone of Indian market.
Yea despite being 18:9 the design it’s not up to par. It’s a bit disappointing.
But it has nothing else.
I also enjoyed till now with my RN3 but its now time to upgrade to RN5pro 😛
Mi A1 is a best example of it
same for me too in Rn3
Specs and price aside, blatantly copying the camera arrangement of the iPhone X is just sad. It even looks as an afterthought. They have a history of beautiful original designs, why bother copying other manufacturers like that?
On a $200 phone you’d only get a USB-C and none of the features so they went with the more common micro
You can get license free USB fast charging at 5V3A, while QC charging requires paying a license, along with a reversible more durable connector.
What really puzzled me though is why they went through paying for QC 2.0, but not getting fast charging for free with USB-C.
they are salty because a redmi is way better than the a1.
Haha. You got a point. I will talking purely from a design stand point. My bad.
It can do 4K video recording. Xiaomi just decides to prevent users from doing it with their camera app. You just need to use a third party camera app.
People were saying that in 2015 when USB C came out…
Still no 4K on unrooted/locked stock ROMs.
