The Latest Update of Xiaomi has destroyed the one thing Xiaomi was so much fun for compared to other smartphone. I’ll list all the Problems of Hyper OS1 OS2 or just in general:
1) Even tho they say Battery Optimization has been tweaked and is actually good, they just basically permanently added a settings that would kill background download speed and App processes by a certain percentage to make it seem like your battery is being optimized. Plus the Battery heats up so much compared to MIUI 14 version
2) Bootloader Lock: This has got to be the worst thing ever. Xiaomi was known for their diversity in fastbooting and clearing bloatwares or installing variety of roms to fit customization. they basically said no, screw you and locked it under so many conditions.
3) the Bloatware App sizes are so huge and due to the limitation of Bootloader, you can’t even delete every unimportant bloatware that serves no purpose to your experience.
4)They removed a lot of core settings like Background Network limitation. now if you download something with your browser and go to another app, your download slows down and eventually stops. Unlike old Updates, this Update does not let you cancel that feature
HyperOS killed the Xiaomi 14 for me, was unusable after the update
Totally agree with all the points, but there are still lots of xiaomi fanboys who will downvote your post for no apperent reason. So good luck with that. The battery is getting worse and worse with every update, it actually got so bad my battery fully discharged after an hour of watching youtube. My friend has google pixel and he said his battery discharges 10% an hour of watching youtube.
As someone who has used Xiaomi devices since 2017. I agree with all of this. I liked it when unlocking the bootloader was so easy. I just hope the HyperOS 3 is much better than the current one we have now. I miss the old glory of miui.
We’ve been huffing copium for a long time now
Brother, if your phone discharges after 1 hour of youtube, then you have a hardware problem. No software can do this.
The Xiaomi that killed it for me was the Poco M3. Something like a 70% failure rate. What a heap of crap.
There’s room for improvement even on the hardware side and I would like to get non anti consumer features back like expandable storage and use my wired earphones without dongles and the RGB notification led.
They take less than 5% profit so any reason for removing them based on people using it is not justified, and given that the IR blaster is still there.
I am actually satisfied with Xiaomi 14. You need address issues with center before complain on social media forum. This undermines all work company is putting behind devices. There is ofcourse room improvement. Iphones are also not perfect. Go for apple not satisfied with Xiaomi.
Thank you for this post. I was seriously considering “upgrading” my phone from MIUI 14 to HyperOS2.
I haven’t been on Xiaomi since my Poco X3 Pro (upgraded to the Sony Xperia 1 IV) and honestly the bootloader unlock being gimp is the final straw for me. I’m not going back if I literally am stuck with the same shit I suffer with on other brands. Other brands don’t have baked in ads, better hardware, better software, better support, etc. Why should I stick with Xiaomi?
>You need address issues with center before complain on social media
how the fuck can a service center address an issue that the manufacturer (Xiaomi) themselves dictate? Can a service center fix the software itself? Can a service center unlock your bootloader when Xiaomi themselves locked it down?
>There is ofcourse room improvement.
How will it improve when you wave off legitimate complaints? You’re just as bad as the Apple shills. Same cancer, different brand.
WE NEED BOOTLOADER UNLOCK AGAIN
You are hater maybe there is some issue with your device. Contact Xiaomi official service centre. My Xiaomi 14 drains only about 4 % after 30 mins youtube videos. If you are still complaining then buy other company phone and then complain on their forums. Xiaomi is and it will be one of the biggest players in smartphone market.
Very glad to be on miui 14 by Xiaomi eu rn
>You are hater maybe there is some issue with your device
Again you’re missing the point. A service center can’t fix the issues that most of the OP has stated **especially** the bootloader locking. That’s literally a Xiaomi mandate that can’t be “fixed”. Also if it’s an issue that a lot of people are experiencing, sounds like it’s an issue that Xiaomi needs to address, not a service center. I’ve had a Xiaomi since like the Mi Note and was first inline for the Poco F1 and I’m still using a perfectly working Poco X3 Pro running cRDroid. I’m not a hater, I’m just not a fanboy like you.
>If you are still complaining then buy other company phone and then complain on their forums. Xiaomi is and it will be one of the biggest players in smartphone market.
There is no getting through you bud. You’re literally just a reverse Apple fanboy. You can’t take legitimate criticism. I pity you.
Bootloader I completely agree is the company mandate. But there be some reason behind this mandates. People are harming their mobiles by not properly unlocking bootloader. So companies need to take steps. Also there are unofficial ways to unlock bootloader but I don’t recommend those ways.
Imagine using the same argument Apple uses for their walled garden. Couldn’t be me. I think you need to look yourself in the mirror buddy. You’re just a broke Apple fanboy. Xiaomi has allowed bootloader unlocks since their inception. Changing it now is literally just chasing Apple’s clout.
I loved MIUI. It was way better than HyperOS. Bootloader unlock was easy….installing root was also easy. But now they locked everything. Poster @Previous_Mood4214 is also saying right that the download slows and stops down if I go to other app…. I loved to old Glory of MIUI. It matched the glory of Mi. Hope we will get something better in the future.
Not a fan of how fast my 14u drains.
The update didn’t seem to improve it.
My last Xiaomi phone thank god ,NEVER buying another,
Redmi note 13 pro 5g,super slow phone ,even slower now they updated to hyperos 2 ,and full of shite adverts just to piss you off more, and remind you that this phone is not good
tHe EnD oF xIaOmi SmArTpHoNeS….
lol. wanna bet? thats a bold statement
Never faced any of those issues and don’t care about bootloader
you can buy another phone brand or cry on the web…
you have chosen
**And you really believe that automatically?**
**I have HyperOS 2 on the 13T without any problems.**
These posts about bad HyperOS and bad Xiaomi already seem like they are from bots to me.
I have Xiaomi 14 Ultra with unlocked bootloader, sitting on Xiaomi EU Rom and everything works perfectly.
I remember when the Mi 3 was sold with the bootloader already unlocked.
Or just buy something else and be happy. Main brands like OnePlus. Google. Apple. Samsung. Sony. Motorola.
Other Chinese brands like Honor. Vivo. Oppo.
There is no way i buy something without straightforward bootloader unlock, especially as their oem software is very below average
Well, Xiaomi killed Redmi sub-branded phones indeed. Xiaomi branded phones are still saved (for now).
I just use my phone bro lmao
For 4. I thought it’s because of brave browser, but when I use Firefox, download in the background works.
Stop it mate. I can understand you love your own phone but the experience doesn’t apply for everyone. Do you get any profits from defending a Chinese super corporation? No, I don’t think so. People has different ideas and ideals. Different experiences. Don’t to silly moves, don’t expect everyone to think like you. Darn.
I am a Xiaomi user since 2015, but seeing the market movement and Xioami changes, for sure my next phone will be a HONOR one (at least my thoughts for today).
I’m using a Xiaomi 14 Global version with xiaomi. eu ROM…
It was a pain in the a*s to unlock the bootloader.
So there are 90% chances to change the phone brand with the next purchasing.
For now HONOR has a better software integration and features and the hardware is great too.
Miui was glitchy but at least the battery was killer. My poco f2 pro got 2-3x the battery longevity of my 13 ultra
I just hate spreading misinformation or information from only one (always bad) perspective. Peace
howgh
It’s just reddit redditting. Some people think their reddit communities reflect the real world. People won’t stop buying Xiaomi because of the things OP listed.
The low & mid end 2021 entry all seemingly have high failure rate. Redmi Note 10 series and Poco X3 series wasn’t spared as well. Might be the result of going into production 2020 in the heat of the lockdowns
Which is a shame since nearly most of the 2021 lineup offered really remarkable specs
If I don’t proceed with the update…
Will it delay all the issues as mentions?
Ikr Xiaomi is still the world’s third largest smartphone brand ig, correct me if I’m wrong.
Adb is not shady
But they are not the only ones doing all this. Vivo is the same.
yes, the end of easily unlockable xiaomi phones. from my experience as a seller, most people don’t care about bootloader unlock. some straight up reject buying them – because it compromises security and system updates (can’t say i experienced any problems because i didn’t update. but that’s me).
some phones can get worse performance and user experience with updates. sometimes because that specific device had quality control issues or software has a bug (which apparently doesn’t affect all users – we all use our phones differently). if the phone is unlocked, you can easily revert to the older, better system version. this is one of the reasons i like having my bootloader unlocked.
then there’s the thing about sd888 and 8 gen1 phones. with some root tweaks you can get them to be *barely* warm. yes, even while gaming. ofcourse some performance will be lost, which can be only noticed in benchmarks.
all that being said, most people don’t give a shit. sure, if it’s breaking some core features that most use then you’ll see posts about bugs
I know they started going downhill when they started launching overpriced redmi phones
The best Xiaomi experience that I had was with the Redmi Note 8 and that thing just won’t die at all. Their OS updates bricked it lots of times though, and that was a huge turnoff. Had a better run with Pixel Experience installed instead of MIUI where usability problems were prevalent. That phone led me to learn how to unlock the bootloader to install a better OS.
Ever since they took a huge nosedive in quality control and they started having a more convoluted midrange lineup, I never looked back. The writing’s already on the wall that they’ll restrict these things someday.
Wish they would bring back Stock Android on these devices, like thr Android One program.
95% of xiaomi/redmi/poco users wouldn’t even know what you are talking about. So I would bet it’s not the end
I had poco F1, then Mi9T Pro (which was awesome) and now bearing with Poco F3. Yes, I count those as Xiaomi phones, because they are.
My next phone will most likely be Realme, and very soon.
Agreed. And honestly I might jump ship with my next phone sadly.
User since 2015 with Mi4, already made a switch to another brand.
It’s kinda sad to see the one you used to love and care, slowly dying from all the greed and poor decisions.
First thing, I don’t blame them for bootloader gatekeeping. Google wages a war against custom rom community in recent years first with safetynet and now with play integrity. At first it was just some tweaks like harmless modules flashing but now some even checking the bootloader locking status which now requires deeper tweaking and with more responsibility in life I just don’t want to fix it every month (or whenever they wanted like the fastest they did was 6 hrs) anymore when Google decided to break the integrity.
Second, the MIUI and HyperOS. I genuinely believe they tried to improve it. Sadly, they don’t give it the same efforts like Samsung did when they switched from TouchWiz to OneUI, at least in early iteration of OneUI.
For me bloatware, unless unremovable via adb, is not that much of a concern. I understand that something has to be traded to get the price this low.
“Things” i would bet the majority of ppl haven’t noticed or care about.
Storm in a teacup.
It was unlocked and you had a spare partition so you could load a second rom and choose to boot from two different roms…
Unbelievable, what do you want in a phone..
Lol, I like your sense of humour.
Same, no problems on my 13T but im not a heavy user
I only had Redmi Notes in the past.
I need:
– unlockable bootloader
– SD card slot (I’m not paying hundreds of Euros for 500+ GB any any less is not up for debate)
– Audio jack (this is how I connect to my car)
– Reasonably cheap – I am not willing to pay more than 250€ for a smartphone (I have more than enough money to buy 1k+ phones but that’s not what a phone is worth to me).
So yeah, no more Xiaomi ¯\\\_(ツ)\_\/¯
Si, en mi caso es la última vez que uso un xiaomi. Me decepcionó el que ahora tengo que fijarme que región es para tener actualizaciones. En mis anteriores teléfonos xiaomi los compraba y cuando me llegaban los actualizaba y ya.
They can do both. I jumped ship too, no more xiaomi
It’s just his opinion, it is obvious that it does not reflect the market
Xiaomi mi11 Ultra was the last good phone from Xiaomi.. haven’t bought Xiaomi since and this won’t change anytime soon it seems
The first xiaomi phone was Redmi 4X and it still works until now with custom ROM, I loved xiaomi phones with their features and flexibility to unlock bootloader and flash custom ROM, so I bought another phone which was Redmi Note 5 pro (whyred) and it is working until now with custom ROM (only power button not clickable). After that I tried to convert to Samsung with S20 FE but I missed xiaomi again.
I returned with buying Redmi K50 ultra, but when the news came that xiaomi will make very difficult to unlock bootloader, Then I decided to convert to Oneplus and bought Oneplus 12.
I am happy with Oneplus with Oxygen OS and you can unlock the bootloader by using a simple command as you like.
So, goodbye xiaomi.
Exactly the same as you, 100%, since the Redmi Note 3 Pro.
I’ll be buying whatever around 200Eu that lets me use a custom ROM or has a near stock Android.
I just got myself a RN 12 Pro 5G and was wondering: should I update to HyperOS?
I’ve seen some people say battery life actually improved after the update, but mine came in with MIUI 14 and my RN 8’s battery got axed by 50% after a OS change back in the day.
Cheers
Sadly nowadays those lists of requirements leave pretty little and dwindling options ):
I can’t comment about #1 or 4 because I genuinely don’t know about that topic but I will say that bootloader unlocking isn’t a problem and I’m not sure where people are getting this from. You can unlock your bootloader once per year which is completely fine unless you’re buying a phone twice per year and who does that?
The other thing, you can delete any bloatware you want without root
I need security on my phone so alt ROMs aren’t anything I want anyway. Aside from that my Xiaomi 11T works really well on HyperOS 1….. I’ll have to replace it in a few months at most tho due to loss of further security updates…..
Time to move to Google and Nothing I guess..
I would add that xiaomi is announcing Hyper OS 2 – 3 but it’s just marketing.
The reality is that we’re looking at a Hyper OS 1.3.
I’m using a K60 Ultra and if anyone can find me an alternative OS, I’d love to hear from you!
Good thing my Poco M3 Pro 5G will be my first AND last Xiaomi phone I’ll ever get. As soon at it got outdated on MIUI 14/Android 13 and started having random restarts back in May last year, I completely ditched it for a custom crDroid 10.2 rom based on Android 14 and it’s a thousand times better.
EDIT: I’m already on a Samsung A25 since September last year not because of specs, but for One UI which I’m most familiar with.
Where’s that battery setting?
I’m just a regular Joe who doesn’t give an iota about bootloaders, just want a decent phone with good battery, good camera and doesn’t go on fire after watching a few videos. Also, I’ve no games on my phone.
Not interconnectivity
Yeah so they copied all the bad things from iOS as well as it’s UI.
Did you manage to unlock the K60? Otherwise good luck installing an alternative
They got big for a reason, they eliminated the reasons step by stem. No it’s no difference anymore if i buy Xiaomi or Samsung or any new no name brand. Using Xiaomi since 2013. but now there’s no reason for me that the next phone will be a xiaomi again. Not only for the mentioned reasons. Also the price/value is almost at Apple level now.
Don’t update if you don’t need to. Alone for the stupid control center design I would go on using miui.
I don’t think it’s the end just yet let’s see where there taking us first. I’ve been with Xiaomi since the first remdi came out.
The last update totally screwed up mywhatsapp, and the layoutof my apps. I am wondering if I should go back to Samsung or iphone now
I am on my first Xiaomi phone (14 ultra) . Compared to Samsung I don’t see the bloat. Battery is 40% after a full day, camera is amazing. Gestures and buttons only a bit wonky.
I wish I could go to Huawei again (mate 20 pro was best phone ever) but I need Google services and wallet too bad.
Yes, especially with their crippled software. If a phone doesn’t have some hardware, I can understand that, but limiting hardware with software in purpose is bad. Their always on display is a good example.
xiaomi phone isnt something id buy for a considerable while.
Amount of default ads, marketing data steal, ads providers hidden as tools, is ridiculous.
I switched to oneplus some time ago, it isnt flawless, but definitely better.
I don’t know what “always” means for Xiaomi, because in the Western world I’m sure it isn’t “10 seconds”. 🫣
And don’t forget the gray Control center in “mid-range” phones (AKA Redmi Note Series).
Im still with a 2018 xiaomi phone with the great “One” ui that is clean. im going to upgrade this year, but not sure if i will buy a new phone from xiamoi anymore with all the bloat i read they add over the years.
Wait, is bootloader unlocking now completely gone, or it still can be done under certain conditions?
I read somewhere that they reduced the amount of unlocks that can be done by a single account in a year, but that doesn’t affect me all that much, since I change my phone every \~5 years and even then I just unlock my own device one time, but if it’s completely gone, then my next device won’t be Xiaomi.
Phones made with HyperOS require remote unlock which is promotion-based limited time only. Very few get it to a point where it feels like it actually shut down.
Sorry but I can’t wait to go back to Samsung
Can’t unlock the bootloader on those too
It is so difficult to unlock that it is the same as completely shut.
They’ve been doing shit since HyperOS 1, and already with MIUI I couldn’t take it anymore, I’m now forced to switch to custom ROMs because Xiaomi’s software does random things and is so modified with things like bloatware and shit like the impossibility of changing launcher app etc so I preferred to just change ROM. Long live to CrDroid and all these custom ROMs that revive phones that don’t deserve to die and please Xiaomi don’t kill your phone and let us to just modify OUR smartphones
Welp my 14t will be my last xiaomi phone then. Time to move to nothing phone
That’s not what I’m interested in, I want One UI back lol
If you can live with oneui then go for it.
You can debloat it using ADB…
Me too. I dont even know what it does or how it works
Even HyperOS is very stall compared with other UIs like Samsung or Oppo. Very little customization at all.
I have a redmi note 11 and been getting repeated notifications constantly even after reading them. Driving me nuts. No idea why yet.
What the… so I can’t unlock my phone whenever I feel like wanting to, but instead I have to wait for some promotion which happens only during a certain time in a year?
Bruh.
Bootloader lock is dirty af. Now I officially can’t love nor support your smartphone disivion anymore.
…if at all.
That’s why I moved to One plus now.
I am confused …what is Bootloader for, never heard of it :c
i have hyper os 1 should i upgrade to 2?
True. A few months ago I made a mistake of updating firmware on a Xiaomi 12t to HyperOS and the paper texture stopped being applied on some surfaces. The user experience become weird. I reported the bug to Xiaomi but I guess it’s still not fixed…
Mass Short Xiaomi. Where is WallStreetBets.
I fell into the Turbo 3 trap. No doubt that under the hood it has the goods but yeah stuck with *rattles off 20 expletive words in head I’d get banned for posting* damn china hyperos which very obviously self handicaps for definitely not any buy our latest phone every year shenanigans.
Funny thing is, It was failing to run and screen record a very basic game without input lag and graphical stutters in v1, and v2 fixed it now it runs ultra smooth and responsive like I expected these specs to.
Every day I grow more bitter about the no bootloader unlock….. Many apps force you to have to screen translate stuff. And now, after spending a ton of time editing art pics with the gallery editor and the xiaomi ai expand plugins I find out that after each use it applies a very very light layer of green watermarks going across the entire screen. Such that in images where you use ai tools several times, it becomes very clear. I go back and check the 30+ images I edited and they’re all f’d. Insta uninstall that.
Definitely my last Xiaomi phone unless they have a big fat come to Jesus moment and reverse these goblinic ways soon.
I proudly kamikazed my china community app account by posting that a certain island is in fact not part of China as they claim, it is a sovereign independent country. Man they ban u quick for that lol
If it’s mediatek powered there’s exploits for those chipsets
Don’t go samsung either the a series has a notorious charging port failure on the logic board side of things and it requires microsoldering and the s series phones are notorious for overheating to the point of warping the logic board after 4 years and cracking the solder points of the cpu causing permanent ss rdx cpu hand and a permanent boot loop, in some cases you’re lucky to get it to boot if it’s placed in a freezer
May ADB protect you! You guys are venting over locked bootloader, but every company has their bootloaders locked, look at Samsung, you unlock it and can’t do anything with it. I have so much pozitive to say about Xiaomi, wayyyyyyy better than Samsung, apple and others. You pay 300 euros get a phone that’s useful (loser gamers say: ohhh I ain’t getting 120 FPS and that’s the reason for custom ROM and then bricked phone, throw it in the trash) It lasts a long time, battery heats up? Change it , no one’s stopping you from cutting through the glue and pulling the battery out, all in all it’s only 14 euros on AliExpress.
Well said! I have ended up bricking my phone many times doing Custom Roms and sh, which I have fixed, because I have a knowledge of computers, IT. People who aren’t as advanced in tech, when they brick the phone, well that’s over, only know how to use scripts.
it’s pretty hard to brick a phone nowadays. sure, an update can sometimes do it but that’s it. i use my phones rooted with official rom – never had a brick
Well the way I ended up in a brick, the hardest brick I’ve ever experienced was flashing different firmware, than I needed for the specific ROM, made it so MiFlash was fully worthless, but it was also the day I realized MiFlash is just a shit paste made by some cringy kid. Rooting global ROM I feel as though is not really useful. I only have one application I need which is color changer and that’s it. But having a custom ROM is useful in a way it completely removes Google apps, which aren’t very useful to begin with, excluding maps and gboard. I like the official hyperos, but it’s outdated for my device.
mi flash is just a skeleton of what it could really be. flashing and unbricking mi phones is a pain. they removed edl flashing from mi flasher so it’s basically worthless if you don’t pay for that option.
i’ve never found a phone brand that i was content with and didn’t need root. hopefully one day that would change. but untill then, i’ll be looking into oneplus for easy bootloader unlock
Of course you can just use adb shell no nasa computer needed.
Saying that it is the end of xiaomi smartphones is a metaphor…
14.0.11 on Xiaomi 13T.
I have yet to read why updating is beneficial.
Thinking about switching to the EU Rom. What makes it nice for you?
Which version does of the Xiaomi EU Rom.
Xiaomi EU AURORA OS2.0.102.0.VNACNXM
All the Google stuff sorted, no ads, in general it just feels more freeing, NFC still works despite others saying otherwise, I’m fairly certain it has some battery optimizations too as less background processes for telemetry n such. I haven’t even updated my Xiaomi EU version since I got it it’s just happy days no issues no qualms. I’ll probably use this phone till it dies, camera’s great, battery’s great, screens beautiful. What more can I ask for
Is it the official EU rom or the paid rom?
Why can I no longer scroll up vertically for quickly finding my apps alphabetically? Now when I scroll up I get the news and I can no longer find anything. It’s a big disaster for me. I can’t imagine what it must be like for people older than me and I’m in my 50s and pretty good with phones.
1. You’re partly right, but there’s actually a very quick solution to this problem thanks to ADB. Nowadays, there are even ADB apps with a GUI, so the average user can start by removing anything that sounds suspicious. After that, things might get a bit more complicated in some cases. However, blindly using debloater scripts isn’t a good idea either. In the age of the internet, it’s easy to look up unknown terms before making any changes. The journey is the reward! 😉
2. What is the Problem with bootloader unlock? Xiaomi Bootloader Note 10 Pro and Note 13 Pro very simple. Maybe you had a device that was a bit more complicated? These bugs also for example ist @ samsung.
3. Even not right. You can make the Xiaomi extremely empty. That little bit is not really a big job. . You just have to deal with it. Completely delete with help from “Shizuku” or an simple “adb terminal”. And for people who have no idea how to solve this : ADB Tools with GUI (for example this adbappcontrol.com or this https://xiaomitools.com/ )
4. I can help you. I sometimes spend days dealing with a single problem. I search and research. However, I don’t just want to be able to understand the solution, I also want to be able to understand itself. Still capable of learning. I’ve been rooting and modifying smartphones for 20 years. In the past, however, it was also modification of software from the old Nokia. Or I soldered out the original LED and put in blue and white. If you consider how much time a hobby costs. But that’s what you have it for.
Best greetz…. Have a nice day :}
I remember when I was 17 I tried to to install a custom ROM on a new phone my parents had gotten me. It was the wrong ROM for the model and the phone told me it couldn’t boot – so I went into a panic and kept trying to brute force more and more installs through a software till… it straight up wouldn’t turn on. Technician said the BIOS was fried or something hahah, had to get a new chipset from factory
Just about going to order xaiomi phone , after reading these posts forget it. Thank you folks.
I’ve got a 13t pro, I find the screen nice to look at but bloody unresponsive. I also can’t listen to Bluetooth if the WiFi is 2.4, I think it’s a shared chip or something so it just cripples the stream. I got the phone for free so I don’t feel too bad but it would be pretty annoying if i had paid…It’s also really annoying not being able to use gestures. I use them on all my devices so it’s jarring when I’m on the phone trying to swipe through pages and forget it can’t do it. I tried to use an overlay os but the mediatek processor isn’t really compatible so it works intermittently. This is why being able to throw a custom ROM on is helpful. When I used to use Samsung phones, the first thing I would do was change the ROM to bin all the shit they load it with, then they added that Knox chip nonsense to void your warranty for you so I don’t use them anymore.
I only buy Xiaomi devices just to unlock bootloader and install OEM port or custom rom. Until the bootloader unlock works. I will keep buying. I hope Xiaomi does not go to Huawei way… But then Xiaomi offers great hardware.. Previously I had Redmi 4, Note 4, Note 7s, Note 10s, 10pro, 11x, 11 lite ne 5g, 10c. All were good phone by hardware… I will stick to Xiaomi until they keep allowing bootloader… That is just my POV… Now just OnePlus and Google Pixel is open source
