I used to this, didn’t solve anything. Now I need it for clearance, the extender used to get burning hot from the TV Stick, now it’s ambient after 2h running YouTube at Max quality (Best Benchmark I got). It’s still impressive how much heat this lil stick produces, after just an hour the big ass heatsink compared to the stick’s size is noticeably warm all around and that’s with the shitty heat transfer of two stacked thermal pads.

I mean you’re not going to stick that heavy heat sink on the side of your tv, are you? I think 3perr is saying now connect the stick to the female side of an HDMI extender cable and connect that cable to the television. Something you’re probably going to do anyway 🙂
Yepp, especially with clearance!
Does this improve the performance and fluidity of the System?
i was not expecting that heatsink haha
I never need to use that shit on my Amazon Fire Stick 😂 probably because it has “FIRE” on the name lol.
I have a mi tv stick too. It doesn’t overheat one bit. Dunno what kinda problems you have. It’s been here for almost a year now….
what is the stick for? decode hbo or someethin’?
You probably have the newer version, they silently updated the Mi TV Stick Cooling Design because the early TV Sticks would just kill themselves. Anybody buying a new TV stick doesn’t need to worry, but I got this one second hand as broken, because it was “restarting and extremely slow”. So for anybody buying one of these second hand should watch out, but you only pay 10€ instead of 50€.
Yes
It isn’t the new one that says xiaomi, its still the pre-change MI one
Makes stupid TV a Smart TV, for Netflix and Stuff
The difference between the old and new heatsink isn’t visible from the outside, the old ones have the shield over the SoC and a tiny heatsink on the shield. The new ones have a hole in the shield with a thermal pad making direct contact with the SoC connecting it to a metal plate similar to an SSD cooler connecting it to the HDMI shielding.
alright, suit yourself
I see. here the price of them is the same. of course, not top of the line tv, but … hey, i don’t use netflix, too expensive … is useless
Not many shows on Netflix. I resubbed a few months ago, and even watching at a leisurely pace, I had finished watching everything I am even minutely interested in.
but netflix isn’t free, so no thanks
FINALLY someone asking THE REAL QUESTIONS!
hello. i disassembled the covers, and made many holes with drill (3mm) . no problems so far.
Actually not true, I bought one December 2022, it overheated itself to death 10 months later. Got a new stick under warranty, it overheated itself to death just four months later. Waiting for another replacement stick. I’ll probably do what you did. It’s on a meter long extension cable sitting on an open desk, still overheated itself.
