Ever since I updated to 8.9.13, it seems that the number of ads has increased. MIUI music player and other MIUI apps shows an ad on almost every start and recommendations is turned OFF in settings. So yeah with a rooted phone and unlocked bootloader, if its safe to freeze MSA. Don’t want to brick it or bootloop it
[Oh my, even settings has ads](https://i.imgur.com/Cpc784f.png)
Freezing it with Link2SD, hope nothing goes wrong!
Ok it worked fine, don’t see ads in the MIUI apps for now. But there’s still ads in the settings! Xiaomi must have thrown another ad injecting app somewhere (oddly enough, ads in settings are only on the installed apps page)
I’m a bot, *bleep*, *bloop*. Someone has linked to this thread from another place on reddit:

Which rom are you using?
WTF? Is this standard practice for Xiaomi? How do they manage to sell phones with ads in?
Xiaomi is an Internet company not a smartphone company. They sell smartphone as a secondary product their primary source of income is miui. That’s the reason they can sell phones at cheap prices
There needs to be some sort of law about ads built into the OS, especially for TV manufacturers. Because this is becoming insane
My first xiaomi was a shot in the dark. I never regretted, I’ve became a fan of both xiaomi and miui. They give good support. I don’t like ads but I’m not annoyed by them. Never even noticed.
Better flash [xiaomi.eu](https://xiaomi.eu) there are no ads
Why I always recommend the A1 and A2 to guys. The android one is great
Just got the A2 the other day, I’m loving it!
Laugh in Resurrection Remix
This shouldn’t be happening on stock roms.
I bought the A1, at least they can’t do it there unless they want to have Google’s wrath upon them.
Where did you update from? Is it Global Stable/Beta?
I mean amazon used to sell tablets with ads which were subsidized. People keep talking about the 300$ phone, how do you think they can reach amazing prices like that.
/u/matterwitu
Amazon tell you up front and you can pay the difference to remove them. I assume this isn’t the case with Xaiomi?
Used to? I thought they still did.
This shouldn’t require a law. People just need to quit buying products that do this and they’ll learn what is acceptable and what’s not.
I never got ads on my Xiaomi 5 Plus (global version). I’m in Europe… maybe that’s why.
Miui 9.5 global ROM, MI 8 user here. No ads in my settings.
Use the unbloater from the wiki and remove msa and analytics. Did it and no more ads!
By having the right hardware?
I wish more people would vote with their wallets but your average consumer doesn’t know something has ads in it until they already bought it and they usually put up with it for the sake of convenience.
What would Google do in theory?
amazon does too. at least with their tablets.
Google charge a massive premium to make profit on their devices – Xiaomi do not.
Keep it civil
i removed over 50 apps from my poco through adb. now it is a different phone altogether.
MIUI beta 8.9.13. It’s there in the OP
They could stop them from using their services.
Android One is a quality mark by Google.
If they abuse it, Google could stop all xiaomi phones from using Google services.
Already happened to another brand
This is definitely not usual. Probably some adware oP got from shady sites.
Laugh in bootloop. Can’t see ads if I can’t use the phone 😎😎😎
Which brand?
Indeed. And even better, Xiaomi.eu ROMs do not trigger ARB4, so you can flash em happily like you’d flash a custom AOSP or LOS ROM.
Hello fellow Malaysian! Hahaha just drop by to say hi. Which model of Xiaomi you’re using?
Consumer ignorance isn’t a valid excuse. don’t buy the cheapest possible product lol. If you’re buying something it’s your responsibility to know what your buying. If it has ads it sucks but you can find out if you research
i can deal with their secondary apps showing ads, but this is sick! either they fix this or they’re gonna have some rough opinions from everyone.
And that reason is they don’t have warehouses, not this crap.
I think, there are still prime phones or something like that. they put lockscreen ads on phones from other manufacturers and cut prices.
The real winner here.
At least with them you could opt to pay more for the ad free version
And Google sells your data to advertised and analytics companies.
This better not be an issue on the OnePlus 6T
I use blokada to cut down on those… Somedays it doesn’t work.
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
“$1000 phone is better than $200 phone”
I thought they allowed you to change roms or was I wrong?
What efforts?
You can spend a little more to not have them
By making them cheap?
Custom Rom SLPT
No they don’t.
Xiaomi was doing that too? I thought it was just Huawei.
Yeah, the primary downside of Xiaomi phones is MIUI but the A1 and A2 don’t have that.
Laughs on EFIDroid
LG FTW
Which is weirdly why I am not creeped out about Google knowing everything about me. If it stays internal to Google (and doesn’t get hacked), then the services I get are probably improved with little chance that anyone knows this information about me except Google and its software.
Between Xiaomi and Huawei I don’t know what is worse now.
I have MIUI 10 Global 8.9.13 Beta on my Mi 6 and **don’t** have these ads anywhere in settings or any app that I use (I don’t use most of the built-in Mi apps though). Maybe it’s regional? Or a vendor ROM?
Thank you! Finally got out Google garbage and Xiaomi apps that dublicated funcionallity!
They do, not sure what he’s talking about. You have to wait 15 days to unlock it though. This was to stop resellers from rooting it and loading malware on it before reselling it.
Somebody pls update blokada so that it blocks these pos ads in miui.. The other day I was served an ad in themes app, then later downloads app, then music …
**I mean where does it stop with you guys?**
NSA already has it
*yet…*
They don’t even do that. They rent out abstractions.
Google IS the advertising and analytics company.
Also Facebook.
Nope, they had a long wait and they just reduced that time to 3 days, afaik they never proposed blocking bootloader unlocking.
Laughs on Mars. Got no signal here.
That’s true, but I feel like there is little to nothing I can do to prevent the NSA.
oooooooooooooooooooo. Is it Italian or Russian?
NOPE!
In the words of other people, referring to really bad phone trends,
“You get used to it.”
“It’s not that bad.”
And that’s why they can get away with it.
did you recommend xiaomi before that?
Trash
I wonder if AdAway happens to have their severs on the filter list. If not, you could probably get the addresses by setting up Fiddler as a man in the middle and add them to a blacklist
Or like, Windows.
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
Nope.
Samsung’s stock voicemail app has ads and asks everyone if you want to upgrade to premium.
Damn. I wanted another mi mix.
Is this a legitimate problem? I haven’t heard any other manufacturer doing this.
300 dollars is an amazing price? Show me a decent 50 dollar phone and we can talk about amazing prices..
I mean, yeah… But at some point enough is enough. It’s a lot to ask of *everyone* to do full research on every product they buy. Googling really is a skill, simple as it seems to us.
Now, it *could* be a requirement to *clearly* disclose on the packaging and product descriptions that ads are included. Amazon makes it very clear on their discounted devices that that you will be fed ads, and that should be the base regulation for all manufacturers.
I disagree, in America at least, we’re a capitalist nation. We already have to hand feed our populous due to ingorance. If ignorance is no excuse to break the law, then it should be no excuse to spend your hard earned greenbacks on a 300 dollar purchase imo.
This isn’t a stock rom, wipe your phone now and flash an official update. Highly suspect a reseller or other middleman to be doing this.
what
Well the ad-free version is basically any other android phone but yes, I see what you mean.
Still haven’t seen adds on my xiaomi, hope it stays that way.
Your comment doesn’t mean anything because you completely ignore what the phone even gives. The point is that it has similar specs to Galaxy phones, which are $800+. Obviously, there are 100$ phones too, but that’s like saying a 1000$ Ferrari is overpriced because you can buy a 500$ shit car from craiglist.
It used to be before the implemented the 15 day change. I haven’t heard of anymore issues since they made the change.
Stop buying their shit. That’ll xiao them.
Highly likely its some shady vendor rom, these aren’t anywhere on the latest global betas.
ok.
I use Custom ROM.
If they make money from miui like that, it now makes sense why they screwed everyone who had u locked the bootloader and stopped supporting it when it became the default thing to do.
edit, that was Huawei
That was Huawei
> Xiaomi is an Internet company not a smartphone company.
Smartphones represented 72% of their [revenue](https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2018-08-22/xiaomi-earnings-maybe-its-future-really-is-in-smartphones), internet related things only 9%. Lifestyle accounted for 19% of their revenue.
Its not shady vendor! I downloaded official miui 10 yesterday and it have ads in they apps.
Great job MIUI. Now i can recommend Xiaomi to my enemies. Yes, even my enemies take my advice on which device to use for which specifies purpose.
I’ve never seen an ad in MIUI.
its an differend rom and since indian is only a other languagi think you should be fine
im typing this on my miuu eu rom ohone and not seeing any ads
The problem with Xiaomi phones is that many people import them from 3rd party Chinese reseller which install malware, when you get a phone from a 3rd party reseller in China, always wipe and reflash… Never use it as received.
Source?
That’s a defiant reason to stay away from xiaomi tbh.

Sorry but this comment is still obtuse, are you saying that we are bringing up the A1 and A2 for seemingly no reason, so you’re sarcastically saying it has a botnet because that’s tangentially related to the OP, or saying it has a botnet because there’s evidence of one?
It really isn’t that bad. Just text, it isn’t even flashy. I know this might get downvoted but I love my Xiaomi, I paid for it 1/3 the price my last phone costed and it’s just as good. I never saw those ads but I wouldn’t mind them.
>People just need to quit buying products that do this
Well I for one had no idea about this until I saw this. I even considered a Xiaomi phone at more than one point in my life. Bullet dodged, I guess.
Ok maybe I’m just a dumbass but what would prevent the seller from just waiting 15 days? If they’re installing malware to make profit why just not keep the phone for 15 days?
I also have it on my mi5 with global 8.9.13
/r/assholedesign
The onus to prove a claim is on the person making the claim. u/Ceph isn’t being the lazy fuck here.
The default list is no longer updated. Try enabling some of the other blacklists in Blokada.
I had this issue as well but after enabling additional lists in Blokada, I no longer see ads everywhere…
I bought a Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro this summer (just a couple of weeks ago), no ads what so ever.
I live in Europe, maybe there is a difference or OP installed some “free to play games” or other crapware without knowing?
My kids do install “free” to play games on our old phones and have all this kind of shit all the time.
I believe there’s a Mi account restriction too (you need to sign into an account to unlock it). Also, I don’t think people are buying them as much from sketchy sellers as they were when it first became known. If someone really wanted to load it with malware and sell it, it’s just a deterrent.
MIUI is great, explain yourself please.
I’ve never seen any ads in miui. Is this the Chinese rom or the global one?
See: ads in settings app.
There is no ‘ads’ in the settings.
I personally love MIUI, but ads in standard applications like settings would be a complete deal-breaker imo.
This post is literally about ads in the settings…
If you have an unlocked bootloader, why the fuck are you running MIUI?!?! If you love MIUI soo much, at least flash xiaomi.eu!
There are absolutely no ads in my phone (Redmi Note 5, not even 2 month old), so I’m asking for evidence about ads in Xiaomi phones at it seems it does not exist.
MIUI is shit, explain yourself please.
Just unlock your bootloader and flash a custom rom. Problem solved.
You need some prescription paranoia pills.
On XDA there is a post for skinny MIUI, follow that and keep in mind if you freeze or disable some auto starts, MIUI won’t boot. Keep a running backup in TWRP to recover from those (just backup System)
True. Except you can actually unlock the bootloader on MIUI, while you cant on Amazons shit.
Well in my phone, there is no ads in the settings. Maybe it’s in your country? I’m in the EU.
With Xiaomi, you can unlock the bootloader, flash xiaomi.eu or another custom rom, and you dont have to pay a cent. Much better.
Well, if someone says it is bad, than the burden of proof , or at least to explain, lays on them, not me.
Dude, just flash xiaomi.eu. Its MIUI, except fixed. So no ads, no bugs.
Finally some rationality on reddit
Yep – I bought one of the higher end Samsung 4K TVs last year – with each update the fucking thing tries to display more ads.
Fine then. The problems are various bugs, a horrific mess of a UI, stuff like ads as mentioned here, and the shitload of bloatware and other random crap software.
READ THE FUCKING OP.
Me too i dont have anything like this, OP prolly installed stupid shit
Is that just for xiaomi wireless or for the whole company? I have a vacuum cleaner by them, all those stupid Bird electric scooters are by them.. they make a lot of great products. Maybe that’s “lifestyle”
This is entirely subjective. Some people just don’t care for MIUI.
Strange. I do not get any ads there.
Maybe you’re running xiaomi.eu.
On the *Global* beta?
Wtf? It’s in this fucking thread. Wtf is wrong with you?
I bought it from the Xiaomi official store, it was on global stable, I updated it to global beta and it’s the official ROM.
Well most people would like the ads to fuck right off.
You need to put the phone away from your head, and go and get checked, pretty sure you’re cooked mate.
My guess would be antirollback.
Updater app, global beta 8.9.13
Laughs in Nokia N85
It’s a dark, dark place you never want to take your phone to visit.
As once you visit you can never leave…mwuahahahaha!
Don’t understand why people but Xiaomi
Global Stable 10.0.1
The thing is, this one is quite resistant. Froze MSA and analytics, I think this might be embedded within settings itself
You can, why not? Just flash the pre-debloated miui rom from xiaomi.eu
I wonder why this is a controversial comment. Can someone explain to me what’s the big deal?
I can understand the initial comment being downvoted, but what’s wrong with his sources? They seem to say xiaomi makes most of their money off software, as he initially asserted?
P.s. on bacon reader it shows controversial meaning lots of downvotes and upvotes
I use miui for very long now , and i never seen something like this before
6 months Reddit Gold For anyone who can run a Charles Proxy trace on these ads for me and send me the results. I do marketing fraud work and want to see this fun level of bullshit. Digging into my data to see XIaomi devices. Didn’t even know they made them,, doh
Official ROM bought from official store
Mi max 2, it’s in my flair
Setup adaway, took a list I found online and some DNS lookups and got rid of the ads
I fail to realize what keeps you people on MIUI when there are alternative ROMs for basically every Xiaomi phone out there: from LineageOS to some more obscure projects. I realize some like the gestures, but is it really worth having to tolerate the ads in the freaking Settings, of all places.
Running Pixel Experience (Android Pie) on a Mi-6. Shit’s solid.
Remarkably good battery life, NFC (reportedly) working, BT, MIUI/Google Camera – everything works as intended. With no clutter, bloatware or, god forbid, ads.
As much as I want to move, there’s no LineageOS for the mi max 2, so I’m kinda stuck. Might move to Xiaomi.eu
What rom are you on? A official one? I’m on China stable miui 10 and no ads anywhere…
Ok since this has quickly gone out of hand, I should clarify some stuff. I’m running MIUI 8.9.13, latest global beta at the time of writing this post. Official ROM download via the updater app. Phone is bought via official Xiaomi store. MSA is frozen which killed ads MIUI apps but did not remove this ad from settings. Also ads only show up in the installed apps section.
From mi.com? A lot of people mistake those stores on Xiaomi as being official when they’re not.
Android 7.1.1, I could install a magisk module
Nope, a actual physical Xiaomi official store
MIUI 10 beta 8.9.13 global
Ran the Redmi note 3 with lineage for 3 years it was awesome!
The profit is made in the internet company side.
Xiaomi.eu is everything MIUI is, except the ads. So if you’re okay with MIUI as a concept, I see zero reason not to move.
This is the correct answer. I believe Xiaomi even sell some of their phones at a small loss to get people on miui and into their ecosystem.
Ok good that’s more of a relief. Perhaps ads are being served based on the region you select during setup?
I’m just not sure how haha.
Like do I just flash the zip in twrp or do I need to nuke system partition or something?
Rip Poco F1
Poco F1 seems to run a different version of MIUI, so you may or may not see ads.
I’m quite happy with the Fire tablet I got to use as a clock in the bathroom. Cheapest automatic setting clock I could find. 😎
Might vary from phone to phone. I’ll not sure all have it activated.
https://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-anti-rollback-protection-brick-phone/
thanks, i prefer facts over bullshit
While I’m somewhat sure you could dirty flash it over your existing ROM, the proper procedure seems to backup whatever you need to backup and proper nuke everything from within TWRP.
Then flash. That would, at least, ensure, that any problems you might encounter aren’t related to the leftovers from the original ROM. Xiaomi.eu also provides OTA, so, in an ideal world, you won’t have to look under the hood ever again.
It’s actually pretty painless if you’re synching stuff with Google. Your address book, your photos, bookmarks, even your saved passwords and apps from Google Store are reinstated once you login into your Google account. I also realize that it sounds (and is) rather creepy. Just use Titanium Backup or something if you don’t sync.
Thanks for this, was looking for more host file lists for phones since the default ones in Adaway and the popular ones for PC dont usually block all of them
That’s the whole company. I Googled it and other sources back up that guy’s comment.
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/05/03/xiaomi-ipo-everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-chinese-giant.html
They’re primarily a smartphone company, and are branching out into other electronics and services, but that makes for a small footnote in their earnings. In 2015, smartphones were 80% of their overall revenue, in 2017, it dropped to being around 70%.
On top of their blocking of EDL mode and the time for unlocking the boot loader. This will be my first and last phone from them.
Who needs the fire phone when we have the hydrogen one for 10x the price!
I personally never seen an Ad in my MIUI; these are my current settings.
Global dev rom
Debloated everything that was allowed using the debloater in the wiki.
Installed Blockada ad blocker.
I’m curious which part is doing the work, since I did that since day 1.
MSA is responsible for ads in system apps, so uninstalling that removed that section. Blockada would have cleaned the rest
thats great as long as no bloatware like samsungpay!!!!
LMAO ROTF
Uninstalling MSA via adb and installing adaway with a host file for MIUI fixed it
Out of principle only we should not buy phones that serve ads.
Samsung is pushing it and seems more brands will follow. Dangerous waters
> I paid for it 1/3 the price my last phone costed and it’s just as good.
For some reason I’m taking this with a grain of salt.
Thank you 🙂
u/jawz101 shared [this list](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/jawz101/MobileAdTrackers/master/hosts)
I live in China, and they just installed TVs in the elevators playing loud ads whole day. Nobody says a word about it. Advertising is as common as watching a tv show here.
i’m sure 95% of android users are able to do that in 5 mins.
/s
It’s because Xiaomi sells phone’s for cheap. The don’t earn much from phones so they hope to earn from ads.
I’m constantly amazed at how many people you guys think even give a shit. They don’t know any different because they don’t use their devices for what you do and can’t afford a more expensive one.
most stores out of China and SE Asia are franchises run by local companies, Xiaomi doesn’t really have strict control over them
I used to like Xiaomi product, I owned Redmi 1S, I’m using Redmi 4X today and it will be my last Xiaomi phone.
Ads everywhere this makes me consider to invest more money on pricier phone rather than buy a cheap phone with a lot of bloatware and ads all over the places.
And this gives me another reason to install a custom rom.
Yeah. Didn’t know xiaomi had ads on their phones. I’m kinda sad. I was excited to buy a phone from a non-major smartphone brand but this is unacceptable. Won’t buy a xiaomi again.
Laughs with Mi2 cant anti rollback an unupdated phone
Hi
I want to install xiaomi.EU ROM I have few doubts.
* when updating the ROM via twrp do I need to flash magisk everytime? If yes, all the root modules are intact after update?
Can I also skip updates without losing data? I don’t want to update every week.
Also, do I need to flash lazy flasher zip?
Because they sell phones for cheap with the caveat that you’ll have to see ads. Poor people are ok with it because they get a good phone for pennies.
That’s literally their business model
One chat conversation with Amazon and they removed special offers from a fire tablet that isn’t even registered to my account. Just had to provide serial number and address of the person it’s registered to.
How do you think they sell phones at a loss? It’s all tied into everything else they sell
No ads in bootloop for now. Stop giving them ideas
Terribad business move after Hugo left…
What the fuck.
Then where do they keep their stock?
Better battery too
Weird. I don’t have this.
That’s what people say about iPhone notches lol
People still backing this company?
I’m so sick of ad’s period. No matter where they are. We gave them an inch, and they took 10,000 miles and keep on running..And 98% of ad’s are either useless or scams that are no better than the scammy phonecalls you receive on the phone already filled with scammy ads!
Couldn’t you just buy a phone with pure andriod? Just buying a new phone that’s more expensive doesn’t mean it won’t have ads..If you don’t want ad’s or bloatware just buy a phone that comes with a stock version of andriod only.
They’ve been cheap for years without ads.
Me and my girlfriend both on Xiaomi. No ads.
Well I mean you can’t really expect people who own Xiaomis with no ads to just accept that their phones have ads that they can’t see or something.
And some people say Samsung experience is bad. Guess they never tried spy*cough miui
That’s more Google’s fault than Amazon’s. You can’t use the Play Store unless you build in all of Google’s services on your device.
1. No.
2. Yes
3. Yes you can.
4. Not needed
Adaway, my friend
Hey I have the same setup as you do too!
Aka. Nexus 5X
kindle is not cheap lol are you kidding is the most expensive e-reader
You can disable these ads. Go into settings of these apps and disable the “Receive Recommendation” option.
It is off.
Did u disable it for all apps? You have to go to each app like security, cleaner, downloads, file manager etc.
Just wait until they fill the notch with another Candy Crush ad.
Yep
Because you retards keep buying them.
Nah, dude. In downloads too. Ads are everywhere.
[Save Me!!](https://i.imgur.com/A8qnuBd.png)
Don’t know. MIUI is shit ROM. Seriously. After updating to MIUI 9, they are showing ads everywhere. In app folders, in file manager all, in download app, etc.
I turn data access off for all of the Xiaomi apps. Don’t seem to get ads.
Another reason to avoid Xiaomi’s phones for me after the terrible battery life of Mi4, which I used for a week only before I gave up and sold it.
now u know y their phones r cheap
That sounds interesting. How do you reckon that works?
Then fuck them.
Unlock bootloader, load LoS.
Do you have a list by any chance?
They have ads on the app vault, music app(most ads are on this app), security and *facepalm* File Manager. They don’t even spare the stock apps.
They’ve long moved away from the purely online model Xiaomi. They have stores all over China and India, and are moving those to Europe.
glory days have ended for xiaomi with mi4
it is only down hill from there
No
Change region and you will be fine.
Adhell3 sounds like its badly needed on these phones. Check the reddit for install help
I had ads, and this is the MAIN reason I download a MIUI based ROM (MIUI.eu) download it and you will see even better battery life with probably a snappier phone :p
I’m on the fence of jumping over to Xiaomi.eu
That’s an excellent choice, btw, for some reason I prefer MIUI.eu rather than Masik, so if you are hesitating, I would advise you to chose MIUI.eu :p
I dont get ads on my mix2s 9.4.6.8. what vendors do this? My understanding of the wait time to unlock bootloader is to try to stop resellers pulling this sort of shit.
*Laughs in CrDroid*
I don’t have a list as of now but i saw one on XDA. My list was almost the same. Just don’t remove Bluetooth, compass and other such apps.Don’t remove mi account, find device and security related stuff else you will get bootloop. Most normal apps you can remove which throw ads like mi browser, mi music, mi app store, mi wallpaper….etc.
If you think miui.eu has better battery life than you’ll be amazed with the battery life on miuipro.
What are good alternatives?
Can you tell me how it’s done? I don’t want the gold, I’m actually curious about it.
Could be a vendor CEO
You can uninstall cleanmaster?
The denial is real.
Same on a Redmi Note 4. In the UK.
I’m about to pull the trigger on a MI Mix 2s in Denmark, official retailer (3) there’s no reason I should be concerned about this is there?
No big deal, just restrict data access to MSA, if you unlock bootloader you can do more.
Not if you import from gearbest
Same phone zero ads
Lightning fast performance and insane battery life for 150€ though. Only negative is the camera which is “only” decent
Maybe the terrible misuse of costed, demonstrating a fundamental lack of understanding of the English language?
I mean, I guess. It’s pretty trivial to sideload the play store on fire devices.
kobo and nook
Unfortunately, the number of people in the real world who don’t care about iPhone notches greatly outnumbers the people who do.
But how would this file insert a whole new section of UI into a system all (which is updated with every major update)?
A notch isn’t that bad when the alternative is a full bar of useless frotn space.
And you can still root and side load apps (without rooting) to make it basically a full Android device.
Last I checked it’s actually pretty hard. I never got the services working on my original fire
Yup.
Most people use only very common super basic apps.
I recently introduced my girlfriend to different launchers and she nearly peed herself at how crazy that is and how useful it is.
Most people don’t know there is a better way out and sometimes the caveats are understood and calculated.
Ever heard of Amazon?
Kindle with special offers. People will often take *cheap* even if it means having to put up with ads.
I don’t think it works that way with compiled apps. I’ve worked with android code in the past. I don’t see how that mechanism would work.
Unless the updater is compromised.
It’s more of a consumer rights issue rather than a serious roadblock for techie people. It’s harder for the average person to deal with, and it sets a bad precedent for the industry.
Yes, I think I’ll buy something like Mi A1 / A2 or even OnePlus which is more expensive than Redmi series and I don’t think there’s any stock android phone that has the same price range with Redmi 4X, at least in my country.
Don’t bullshit. What services do they sell that allows them to run the smartphones at razor blade margins?
Luckily it’s fairly simple to add the play store. No root required
damn, I laughed so hard on this
Is it flagship ?
Or is it redmi note 5 pro??
Not everyone in the world speaks English..
It is bad when it cuts videos in fullscreen mode. If you unfullscreen the video, then u don’t get the notch bar block but also youre not using the full space your compromising for….
Absolutely! Give me a bit and I will post step by step instructions. Basically you download Charles, find you computers ip change your device WiFi IP to your computer’s ip, have Charles running and and you see the processes your phone sends in real time.
I can see the ad calls and then either trace the ad network or attempt to figure out what sdk is being used and work backwards from that. Then I will submit to ads.txt to have this shit globally blocked or work with some MMPs to have them publish this to their global black lists.
The 15 day unlock period does hurt quite a bit and since you have to wipe data when unlocking you lose everything you’ve done with the phone if you want to start using it before it can be unlocked. Also, there are no lineageos builds for the mix 2s yet
I’m actually a pretty bad judge of it, I’ve been using [Bluetooth Headphones](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AWIPITS/) exclusively for about 3 years now, so it made no difference to me. As a side note, the speaker is surprisingly decent, at least from a Nexus 5.
Not flagship, mi max 2
is this phone official from Xiaomi? reseller in my country are notorious for putting stuff like this on customer phone
Official from Xiaomi, bought from their official physical store

Frickin Xiaomi being stupid
Adguard is your friend, worked for me atleast.
The individual posting obviously does, just poorly.
I personally did not, but that’s because I’m a as-close-to-stock kind of guy, so I would recommend phones like Motos, Nexus’ and Pixels to people.
Because you do get used to it. The notch disappears after a few hours of use. That being said I’ll still be happy when they ditch it. Just because you get used to something doesn’t mean you are resigned to it forever.
I watch a lot of videos on my phone. I didn’t get used to it.
Sorry, I just don’t believe that. Maybe you can learn to live with it, but it never goes away. Especially when you can’t truly full screen without having the notch block 10% of the video.
“Full screen” in almost every case is “zoom to fill”. No thanks.
I’d rather lose a bit of space to black bars on the sides than have some parts of my video randomly cut off.
Yeah. Exactly
sort of yes. they do show ads in their built in apps like music, file manager etc. actually that’s how they manage to keep the prices so aggressively lower compared to others, after all the are an internet company first. but till now they never showed any any ad in settings app. we can use a 3rd party music or file manager app but not in the case of settings app. and that is why this is getting so much hate.
kobo seems like a decent contender, specially with the whole blue light filtering.
I wouldn’t really call either that much cheaper when you look at the balance of features and performance.
I meant top and bottom bud. You’re worried about the notch while you’re cutting off a ton of top and bottom space.
What’s hard about this for you to understand?
With my Note 8, at least it’s not a visible blocking of certain parts of the video. Worst case scenario, I can un-zoom-to-fill and it shows the whole video still bigger than the iPhone X “unzoomedtofill”
What’s hard about this for you to understand?
At first you argue that blocking the screen is bad, then now you don’t mind that vertical stuff is being cut?
You are also just a lying sac of android fanboyism.
> I watch a lot of videos on my phone. I didn’t get used to it.
A year ago you’re posting to r/AndroidMasterRace and asking for gear recommendations for a Note 5. Argue honestly bud. You’ll get further than this r/QuitYourBullshit nonsense.
No ads on my Mi Mix 2s, just updated to MIUI 10, haven’t flashed it or anything.
After reading this, no Xiaomi phone for me anymore.
I b
Oh lord. Never getting Xiaomi ever. Thanks!
Xiaomi brings a phone that hits western market like an earthquake. Instant threads show up with talk about common stuff in western phones. Sorry my old Sony had in their Sony apps advertising too.
I bet if one of you is crossing my way you wear advertisment on your body you even paid to show of for others.
Pure hate
You can’t vote with your wallet if it gets patched into the system after you bought it.
Could you please expand on what apps are essential to the phone so we can actually get rid of some if not all the garbage that comes bundled with their phones? Only if you have the time of course.
I have the Redmi note 5 and get ads on my homescreen and messages app going as far as to suggest investment options when my salary is credited.
Oh, I thought you were talking about how removing certain bloatware from the system could cause bootloops, not from actual system apps which thankfully I already have enough experience (bricking my phone in 2.2 era) to not mess with. It was really helpful nonetheless, so thank you my friend.
Even as a veteran I still greatly appreciate quality advice, as knowledge is always welcome. My MIUI will definitely be more usable now until Xiaomi lets me unlock my bootloader. Cheers!
Oof.. At this point i’d suggest getting a custom rom
Ads,3rd Party Apps ( Tencent Cleaner/CleanerMaster), Paid Apps/Themes(China),Mi Cloud. Just Google “Why Xiaomi is an Internet Company” and read their wiki page.
Edit: And also evaluation as an Internet company to Stakeholders and Investors by projecting users of MIUI.
True but they don’t intend to that, when I bought Mi3 the first Mi Phone in India I was sceptical about how can they afford to pack so much at such cheap prices I found 3 reasons:
1. Their only presence was on Internet
2. They don’t do ads.
3. They earn from MIUI.
And I read at that time Xiaomi was an internet company and they wanted to prove they are not a smartphone company and announced they will bring down their smartphones earnings to 5% or something from 8% or something. Their is a video explaining why would a company that is earning good wants to earn less from smartphones , a product they are known for globally.
MiUi was built before Mi sold phones. I think their are management problems but the heart of the company is in creating MIUI so good that people don’t flash. I got Mi3 rooted from Xiaomi the security app has root manager inbuilt and they provided service to custom flashed phones.
That is correct. Remember Mi3 ? I keep on bringing that phone in this subreddit all the time as that phone was sold at a loss of 2,000 RS and I know that because when I got that phone I saw the MRP and it was 16,000 I got the phone for 13,999.
Apparently yes. I’ve been using my original region Slovakia, then switched to Indian for wallpaper carousel and I have ads.
