Unlocked the [bootloader](https://www.getdroidtips.com/unlock-bootloader-any-xiaomi-devices/). Installed [TWRP](https://www.getdroidtips.com/twrp-recovery-redmi-6a/) and [Magisk](https://www.getdroidtips.com/download-latest-magisk-zip-magisk-manager-root-phone/). Rooted the phone. Installed [Lineage OS 17.1 and GApps](https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-unofficial-lineage-os-17-1.4252127/).
Say goodbye to MIUI and its sluggish interface. Lineage OS is smooth as hell!
Hi, a Redmi 6 user here 😀
Hi! I can’t believe someone’s still rocking a Redmi 6! Cheers to you and to the people who create these custom ROMs. My daily driver is a Redmi 5, by the way. 😀
You know, there’s a ton of custom ROMs you don’t know about. XDA has like 1/10th of the ROMs that are out there.
You can check telegram channels ([this](https://telegram-store.com/catalog/channels/redmi6a_updates) one for example). There are even Android 12 ROMs, but they’re very laggy and almost unusable. Android 10 and 11 is the best for Redmi 6/6A my opinion. I also made a [tool](https://github.com/Sucharek233/Redmi6-6AFlashers) you might find useful.
Thanks! I’ve also browsed XDA for ROMs for my 6A and so far, this Lineage OS is the most stable so I chose it. Thanks also for sharing the tool. I appreciate it!
Yes, [here](https://telemetr.io/en/channels/1238390659-oliveofficialupdates/posts).
Nicely done, looks very sleek.
Thank you for this info. My Redmi 8 is too damn laggish nowadays
Do you have a link for redmi 2a? Thanks in advance.
How are the system apps? I’ve regretted installing lineage OS in mine a few years ago because the camera performance dropped when i did.

A12 is a lagfest on anything less than 4GB
yeah, cameras are not the best part of Custom ROMs. You have to install GCam.
i have Redmi7 with LOS A12 which works smooth AF, As long as A12 is officially supported by a Custom ROM I believe it works fine. A12 is super laggy if it is Unofficial. In my opinion.
what do u mean by TWRP mode? The device doesn’t boot?
do all apps work? like banking apps, uber, foodpanda etc.
Initially banking apps don’t work, but you can easily fix that by watching a vid on YouTube.
Can confirm, tried it once and my phone was extremely laggy. Audio cutting out, video playback lagging af, but suprisingly, games were smooth (probably because it needs an arm64 vendor, the default one is arm).
on my redmi note 4 3GB a12 is usable if you reboot daily though its still slower than other roms. but go more than 1-2 days without rebooting and it’s a lagfest
I think so cause it’s much lighter (400mb) and has less features than PE. PE’s size is around 1.0-1.5GB.
I didn’t. It was my old phone. It was very slow due to MIUI, so I installed LineageOS to make it much more usable.
Yup, you need a PC. Check my comment on this post. I’ve attached there the links of the guide I followed. It’s pretty easy to do. However, the main guide I followed was how to Install PE. I installed Lineage OS instead, the link of which can also be found on my comment.
my mom has a 7a and when she upgrades im def doing this
I use DotOS, used both LineageOS and Pixel Experience on a Redmi 5, the best part about LineageOS and DotOS is that you don’t need to have Google apps, which use a lot of resources. I have f-droid and Aurora installed, no google services. Pixel Experience is the most convenient, but the others give me more than double the battery life and a smoother experience without GApps
Nice! Did the same to my Galaxy S5 mini. Now I use it to test apps that require a rooted phone
Gcam was still a downgrade from the Mi camera app.
Doh, I’m literally reading this on my Redmi 5A 😅
seriously? u should have done something wrong. GCam exists cause they are better. Which GCam did u use??
Dude redmi 6a launched back in 2018 and yours is a very recent device, so it’s obvious that the old device will lag for sure. I had an old redmi note 3 it died out completely last month.
I had Redmi 6(cereus) for past 4 years and I exchanged that phone for the new Redmi note 11 pro+ 5g. Now I miss my old phone. The only difference I find is the performance and camera. MIUI 13 with Android 11 gives me a mixed feelings about my phone😐. I don’t like the chip limitations and restrictions from Android 11 but I like the MIUI only special features.
We’ll, if you can fing Resurrection Remix OS for your phone, you should definitely try that as it has Many customisation features built-in and gives the best battery life. Also this rom is based on LineageOS, Pixel Experience and Omni Rom.
Thanks bro
I’m thinking about doing the same, but, my screen is broken, looks well, but the center of the touchscreen doesn’t work and I’m afraid I could drive my device useless if I cannot touch something needed and cannot use scrcpy on my Linux desktop to mirror my phone and touch it either, or use a mouse. I need some information about that process.
Also, I wet to Lineage’s website and I wonder If the latest 19 version of the OS isn’t compatible with Redmi 6A, because it is not listed. If that’s the case, the solution is to stick with the 17.1? Are there ways to upgrade after installing?
Thanks
For me in all roms it reboots when I try to rotate the screen
I have a POCO F3 and Redmi 6A is my old phone. Is it worth installing custom ROM to my old phone first and then to my F3?
Adb sideload stuck at 0% help anyone
Thank you, it’s quite interesting, I’ll try it out!
Your three year old comment saved my old Redmi 6A from impending doom. Just flashed LineageOS onto it and it’s like a new phone! Very nice.
Glad I could help! I didnt know some people are still using their redmi 6a 🙂
I only upgraded last year, but most phones nowadays are huge compared to my nice, small, lightweight 6a. I can’t daily drive it since I’ve gotten used to modern features like NFC and 5G, but it’s great as a fallback phone – perfect for taking on runs and stuff like that. It’s mind boggling actually how such a cheap phone still holds up today now that I think about it.
can i install without root?
i already unlocked the bootloader
hey brother can you lend a hand? you just installed the rom and gapps without wiping anything on the partitions? i have my redmi 6a here and i always failed in flashing custom roms. thnkx
How did you do it, there still isn’t a version for redmi 6A by Lineage OS?
