So this is happening for a while now, first on MIUI 10 and then 11. Never flashed with another ROM, only factory reset the device a few times to no avail.

While sometimes it boots up, it rarely stays on for more than a few hours.

Moreover, I noticed that when I press down on the middle of the screen with one finger, screen starts to show some damn impressive glitch art and then it shuts down.

Not sure how this can be troubleshooted, should I consider it a hardware issue?

Your chipset is in it’s last days. Some times this starts after an overheating, an overload or something like that. I had this problem with the 3S, and it ended up dying some time after.

Might be a corrupted boot partition, an old phone of mine did that type of thing while booting too, reflashed the ROM and it was fine after that

    that sucks.
even low end xiaomi redmi outlast apple shits.
oh yeha at least xiaomi isnt in court in every country because they slow down model with update to force you to buy the new one 🙂

first , since reset rarely really help , just reflash your stock rom. take it here
    [https://c.mi.com//miuidownload/detail?device=1700340](https://c.mi.com//miuidownload/detail?device=1700340)

if it doesnt work , and ONLY IF IT DOESNT WORK , your phone is lost and you lost nothing even if you brick it for good.

THIS WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY ( if still applicable lol ) AND EVEN IF THE RISK OF BRICKING IS LOW , ITS STILL THERE.

ok now seriously , next time it boot , put devlopper mode on and enable usb debugging.
generally you spam the “build number” in parameters to enable devlopper mode.
once done get the ADB shit package. read that amazing page.

now that you have ADB working , go there and read at least twice. [https://helpandroid.com/how-to-root-xiaomi-redmi-5-plus/](https://helpandroid.com/how-to-root-xiaomi-redmi-5-plus/)
i suggest you use One Click Root.

rooting NEVER go wrong. trust me. unless you have less brain than a cat.

    so now download this rom
    [https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5/development/rom-nitrogenos-t3972303](https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5/development/rom-nitrogenos-t3972303)
i do not have a redmi 5 , a friend did it for the fun and it works. i personally am done with apple crap. after 4 replacement in a year , and before they make it stupidly slow , i throwed it to trash and ordered a redmi 8a. done with crap. people i know wont touch this crap ever again too. why pay 10 time more money it they never last…. anyway…
you can choose another rom , many are goods. but i have no idea how well they work. look here for other roms
    [https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5/development](https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5/development)

once you have everything ( the rom , TWRP , gapps and so on )
install TWRP with ADB. there are many tutorial for this and its the same shit for ANY twrp install , even on my very old but still working Motorolla Moto G xt1032 first gen.
i could tell you how , but it take long to write and i’m not even sure you will try that.

so anway… after TWRP is installed , reeboot again. just to make sure. now put all your downloaded shot ( not ADB ) inso a SD card or USB key if you have a otg cable ( they are nothing but usb extention with the right plugs )

in TWRP select instal. now you just follow instructions and install order on the page where you got the rom.

and remember , even if xiaomi is known for its f\*\*\*\*\*g amazing MIUI that has no performance hit at all and work damn good , a custom android , if well made , will always be better.

why i suggest you that ? because that guy r/ShadowKiller2001 is absolutly right. the boot partition often go wrong with old phone. its the reason i installed CyanogenMod ( now LineageOs ) on my old moto g.

if stock roms reflash or custom rom flash worked , then enjoy the xiaomi quality for the years to come. im pretty sure xiaomi will even push the android 10 update. im sure i read it somewhere… they wont force you to update a virus that slow it down to force you to buy the new mi 10.

I mean to be fair Apple does update their phones for like 6 years. I don’t know about Xiaomi as I’ve never owned one but I guess it’s like other major Android brands and it’s like 2 years.

Seems like the SOC is dead. Try reflashing, but I would bring it into a service center if possible.
