I have no idea what this is demonstrating.
basically, a new font.
Looks like a take on the android redesign video
New customizable font settings. You can change boldness, width etc system wide.
Nice but…. why?
It’s like they are trying to fix a problem that doesn’t exist.
Agree. This is so stupid.
Yes, you can change the thickness of the font to pretty much anything. Personally I find it gimmicky but perhaps for people that have a hard time reading the current font it might be nice to have them thicker.
Only reason why I think someone went through making this is for people that have a hard time reading and turn the text thickness to max..but those people would already have a bigger text size.. just a update gimmick i guess.
The font changes also during animations… It’s not that stupid
I literally unboxed and set up my first MIUI device, a Mi 9T, 6 hours ago and I’ve gone from not caring whatsoever about MIUI updates to caring *intensely*.
Yes.
You can change the width.
>Further, MIUI 11 features a variable thickness slider for the font instead of fixed-step changes, allowing users the freedom to choose the exact thickness for the font.

I don’t understand why my comment above got downvoted but oh well.
In a good way or in a bad way? I’m looking into buying the same phone
Personally, I used to be really big into customizing my phone, but I don’t have a custom ROM anymore, so up until recently I was using an app to use a custom font to replace the default. This new font thing is something I’m super excited for, because I just don’t like the default font and a lot of people that really like the option to customize every aspect of their phone’s UI I think will enjoy something like this.
I like my font THICC
Both.
MIUI 10 is fine, but has a few oddities, at least some of which I know are being fixed in MIUI 11 (and/or Android 10).
But also, I now appreciate the good things I’ve found in MIUI (vs the stock Android I came from on Essential), and look forward to more unique stuff I’ll like, such as the custom always on display in MIUI 11.
Very good phone, fast, snappy, *excellent* display. Only few issues I’ve found are those aforementioned software quirks, the fingerprint scanner not being super fast or big, and inability to change default camera to GCam.
For chinese people this might be a game changer, considering hanzi legibility
Customizable fonts, Nice! Will it be able to change colors too ?

I’m with you there. Great phone. Just some minor software issues for me. And also, a bit disappointed with the battery life. Lots of wake locks. Hope miui 11 fixes some of this issues.
Boy, my 9T adopted me 2 months ago… Dynamic Font may be interdasting
He answered yet but I tell you buy the PRO in China for the same price is called K20 PRO: 8 RAM 128 ROM SnapD 855… for 320 €
I got the 9T for 300€ 6 RAM 64 ROM… and the PRO is way better
Maybe there is just a new font is costumizable FONTS, that means a universe of new fonts no a new one.
someone extracted it from the closed chinese beta rom and it appears that at the moment is not ready for global as it doesn’t have all the accented letters àèèàòìù
Thanks for the reply, super helpful. Going to give a look at that k20
Each version is a bit better and I always crave the latest, but I’m always a bit disappointed as a few things get better and you’ll find a few things have gone but there’s never anything life changing there.
Sure, new customisation options are welcome but I won’t be staying up to download it!
MIUI always comes with big hype.
You can change the default camera app to Gcam. Go to Settings, Manage apps, 3 dots at top right, Default apps. Over there you can change it.
In the design world this is fucking amazing and have wanted to see something like this done for *years*
Nice to see some variable fonts in the wild. You can play with some examples here to get an idea what they are all about: [https://v-fonts.com/](https://v-fonts.com/)
Yeah that doesn’t actually work though.
Things like double-tapping the power button still launch Mi Camera.
But it doesn’t apply to gestures and shortcuts like “Double tap power key to open camera” though. Checked it just now.
MIUI already allow you to change the system font iirc.
Dunno but if you flash your favorite rom, who knows?
In my example: they flash custom global xiaomi official rom and works fine…
I need your source, u know? By Xiaomi xDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

K20 pro from china 300€ works only band 800 doesnt work…
Check it out
It does through the themes app, if you have your region set to India. But you can only select from their library of mostly terrible fonts, without the option of changing font weight. I was using a third party app, but my theme kept resetting after the last MIUI update so I’ve had to stop using it.
Just so you know, reddit obfuscates votes, so you’ll refresh and it will be higher or lower then it actually is
I don’t know, I didn’t get MIUI 11 yet as of now.
Maybe make a new thread here and ask them.
