The Xiaomi Mi A3 cannot be considered anything more than an incriminatal upgrade if it could even be considered such.
From SD660 in A2 to SD665 in A3.
I guess display res is 720p in A3 from 1080p in A2, which is a downgrade.
The Mi A1 was a super hit device, after which **Xiaomi started ruining the A series devices because their own MiUI (AdUI) device’s sales were getting affected (Xiaomi earns money from MiUI/AdUI but they can’t do the same with Stock android/android one as Google controls are it), so they launched Mi A2 with poor battery, no headphone jack, no SD card Slot and now the A3.**
This all is being done because Mi A1 affected the Redmi Note 4 sales, so after the poor Mi A2 the Note 5 Pro sales didn’t get affected, and now no one will consider the A3.
It’s disappointing because I was waiting for the a3 to upgrade my a1 but now I don’t know if it’s worth it. Any ideas on how much longer the a2 will be supported? I expect a price drop so might buy one of them.
I was waiting for the A3 too bro, I can feel you.
I’d say don’t buy the A2, Android Q is the last major android update, just security update for next year.
I think that is unnecessary the AMOLED display. To make it cheap probably, xiaomi downgraded the display resolution…it is a shame actually…
Why though. Other companies are giving amoled 1080p in same price bracket. The thing is they started making A series devices so poor because A series was affecting their other device’s sales.
Mi A2 has 3000mah while A1 had 3080mah.
Ya A1 sold more than they expected thus affecting their MiUI devices sales.
Xiaomi even posted a poll on tweeter, asking what consumers want MiUI or Stock Android/Android One. Android One won and Xiaomi deleted the tweet because they didn’t wanted to accept that Stock is loved more than their very own AdUI.
Not if a powerful processor is given instead of the power efficient one which the predecessor had.
Yes, you’re right. But they know that Mi A series is know for the budget android one, for pure android lovers. This 720 p downgrade is sad.
A2 had a 3000mah battery with power hungry SD660, while Mi A1 had the battery champ processor SD625 with not so big battery 3080mah. A2 lite is the one I guess that has 3800mah battery with low end SD400 series processor, not so hungry for juice hence good battery life.
The same processor as the Mi A1, which I said like, 625 was a super power efficient processor and definitely one of the most stable processor ever made by Snapdragon till date. Remember the Moto Z Play it had SD625 with 3500mah, the legend of battery champs.
Not for budget, actually it’s for mid-budget, in the price bracket of Redmi Note 7 Pro, RealMe 3 Pro and all. Xiaomi did so with A3 so that it won’t affect the Redmi Note 7 Pro sales, as simple as that.
Yeah I was planning on getting the Mi A3 as ell. But after this I am kind of changing my mind. Would anybody recommend something else I can look into? Doesn’t matter if it’s not Xiaomi.
If it’s like my A2 Lite I’d expect it to be supported until Android 10 plus an extra year (till 2021) on Google security updates.
I’m keeping an eye for the Mi 9T Pro which is the value king. Or atleast I hope so if Xiaomi doesn’t fuck up global prices like they did with India release.
You can look for Nokia 8.1 and 7.1 if the after sales services of Nokia are good in your country.
I recommended a xiaomi note 7 to a friend because she doesn’t care about pure Android and that seems pretty decent from my little play with it so could be an option if youre not fussed on pure Android?
Yeah I did kind of like the Android One aspect. My partner has a A1 and I wanted something similar.
It’s because miui is average at best, the only os I’ve disliked more is my wife’s Meizu os. Pure Android without bloatware will beat any os.
I see the 8.1 is Android one here, I will look into this one. Thanks!
Jesus India’s prices are good, in my country you can find it at around $390 ( but that’s because everything is expensive here )
Welcome friend. Try going for the 6GB RAM variant, it’ll be better.
I got pixel 3a to replace my a1 and so far it has been amazing, even if a bit pricey
It does compensate with an under display fingerprint sensor and a 32mpx selfie camera, both of which I don’t consider to be more important than a 1080p display on a 6 inch screen. It’s a weird choice for sure, it’s bizarre to see an under display fingerprint sensor on such a budget device, but I see it as nothing more than a gimmick. It’s possible that they’re nerfing it so their other devices don’t stop selling as well.
Ya you get the point that Android One dosent makes Xiaomi money, but their AdUI devices do, so that’s why they did so.
In-display fingerprint reader is nothing but gimmick, rear fingerprint readers are still the best, if they wanted to cut price then they could have done so by giving the normal physical fingerprint reader but they didn’t and not to mention the SD665, which should have atleast been SD710+6GB RAM.
Same here, I guess I’ll go with the Mi 9T
You’ll get ads in MiUI, if you were using stock Android then you should look for Nokia 8.1 or 7.1 if Nokia has good after sales service in your country.
I’m currently using Mi A1, but Nokia in my country doesn’t have any type of after sale support or even selling points. What’s that about the ads???
Ads – Xiaomi gives ads in their UI – in the Notification panel, the browser, the settings app, and many places mainly in the system apps and extra bloat apps that are preloaded.
Look in this video you’ll get the idea 👇:
Maybe overall specs are great and price can be fixed but I simply do not believe 6″ HD+ w/ notch OLED will be suitable for media consumption.
Price drop for 3a announced today
It never will be friend. Xiaomi is killing the A series.
budget is budget they always have to cut here and there so they can afford to implement that stupid gimmicky 3 camera setup hype.
This doesn’t mean they can downgrade things from the predecessor.
Even better then
I love you bro, just telling the big picture here, on the other hand look at the design, at least this iteration looks nothing like the iphone which points towards firm grip on originality and more people will buy it, unless it was important to look like one. My concern is the hw quality issues memory vendor, fp reader vendor etc, i owned A1 and A2 and both of them had something annoying. They were “fixed” (workaround) afterwards but many people lost their patience with them.
To show that they care for the people who bought A1 and they do get a share from the sales of the devices too.
Thanks for your recommendation. I just checked here and apparently with the price drop it’s down to 540 dollars. That might be a bit too out of my price range 🙁
Now people don’t have patience to even buy the A3.
I was thinking of upgrading from Mi A1 to Mi A4 in early 2021, but now I’m not too confident on that. I don’t like neither the A2 (no headphone jack/no MicroSD/upgrade issues), A2 lite (ugly notch/no USB type-C) or the A3 (low resolution display).
RIP Xiaomi A series. Time to move on to other phones people
At launch it was 400, are you sure you looked at 3a and not 3
society fragile memory familiar offbeat aloof trees gold tie prick ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `
China/India regions have more ads but the normal global versions of Xiaomi have none if you turn them off in the settings. Some people don’t know this and think that ads cannot be disabled.
Thanks!
Seems like they based the mi a3 to the mi cc9e, honestly this device isnt that bad however its only pros is that it has android one, fancy cameras and a good screen to body ratio isnt good when you have a 720p screen
I hope they release a pro variant and that the one they released today is just the lite version, cant 100% vouch that they will make a pro version
Pixel 3 is around 700 cad, while 3a is 550 cad. This is ofcourse before taxes
The wiki has a guide on disabling ads. But its all in the main settings and app settings anyway so its not difficult.
I hope the Pro version is worthy enough to be called Pro.
In Europe ads are not there, but in Asia they do exist specially India.
Yeah. RIP.
Strange I have the mi 9t and haven’t seen a single ad. I’m using Nova launcher as I was looking forward for Mi A3 but it was a disappointment so it might be it.
Actually enjoying mi 9t quite a lot with Nova + companion (for Google discover swipe right) plus replacing some default Miui apps with Google ones. My daily usage didn’t suffer a big hit. Wasn’t expecting it but with some tinkering the experience is much similar to stock. Gestures takes some getting used to though. I miss the pill… But going back from the sides is so much better than the back button.
Without root and some short reading, you can debloat and stop ads on MIUI easily.
Coming from Pixel Experience (Pie) on Redmi Note 4 to Mi 9T, I can say that the experience has been pretty good.
I would love to try out that phone but it’s only import from small companies in my country – costs the same as the regular 3/3xl…
I really hope they release A3 Pro based on Mi9 cc because this is shit
well if this is based off the mi cc9e, then the pro version could be equiped with the sd 730 and a 1080p screen
Galaxy S3 had 4.8 inch 720p display in **2012**. Cant imagine how shit it will look on 6 inch displauy. It is not acceptable resolution in 2019.
Ad? U must be Indian then, I can’t spot any ad in my phone, and mind that mi a1 A2 are just rebranded 5x 6x
aDmUiU
A shame!
By releasing a LARGE number of phones in past 6-8 months and then removing beta MIUI builds since the company cant support all these devices, they are ruining themselves…
Xiaomi is going down the hill, their K20pro is a great smartphone sadly unavailable to global buyers instead a half ass version downgraded version comes out for us.
I want to upgrade my A1 and I think A3 is no more an option. Can anyone suggest an Android One phone with similar price?
I don’t understand why you’ve been down voted, everything you said is spot on. Under screen fingerprint readers are all terrible, rear mounted is the best, and you get swipe gestures. Also, the SD665 is just not good enough. I wished they’d just dumped the A series rather than foist this rubbish on an unsuspecting public. The A1 is still xiaomi’s finest hour, it put them on the map. Oh and it’s still a good device even now.
no ads , depends on region i guess i have mi 9t for a week 0 ads in miui, europe
Hate to break it to you, but your A1 is still better. If you switch over to a miui device you’ll be bombarded with ads. You can go through the process of disabling them, but they all get re-enabled after each update. It gets old.
Have a look at the Samsung A range. The A50 is a stormer has the Exynos 9610 which beats any SD6xx chip. It has a 4×4 config, and SD have 6×2 config, so apps will load faster on a qualcom, but the extra 2 performance cores on the Exynos will kill the snapdragon in gaming, video rendering etc.
Samsung A50.
>**Xiaomi earns money from MiUI/AdUI but they can’t do the same with Stock android/android one as Google controls are it**
Sorry but no.
A friend of mine has the Mi A1, and last month or so, after an update, gets Ads as well.
And the worst thing is that it’s hard to find instructions on how to disable them. For MIUI it’s easy to disable them as there are how-to’s everywhere.
Which country? I’m getting mine in Portugal
Amen.
Yeah me too. Staying with my A1 running Pixel Experience ROM. Pretty sure devs will release Q on our device as well so no worries.
Damn, I had no Idea about ads on A1.
Then it’s safe to say that it’s better to stay away from Xiaomi phones as whole.
Should have 675 tbh
Downvote happens bro. You mentioning this did put a smile on my face, thanks for understanding my point of view.
Try going for Nokia 8.1 or 7.1 if Nokia has good after sales service in your country or otherwise go for Moto One Power.
croatia , i am sure in all of europe you wont get ads
I won’t buy a phone too without guarantee updates. You can search on YouTube regarding the A series why they made A2 so badly after A1. Xiaomi even deleted their own tweet after Stock android got more appraisal than their own MiUI.
Redmi Note 4 sales did get affected after Mi A1, but the case wasn’t the same for Note 5 Pro after the A2 launch.
They are just confusing to the consumers buy launching too many phones and creating in company competition themselves.
Yeah **( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)**.
Yeah, I’m Indian.
Crossing my fingers for that.
Yeah but just for a very limited set of consumers. It’s based on the CC9 series so I’m crossing my fingers for a Pro version too.
Yeah bro, fingers crossed.
I know but I’m presently a point of view for non techy consumers who use phones as they are.
You must be having the global version of Mi 9T that’s why there are none to zero apps.
Yes I agree.
Currently they think they are doing an amazing thing by releasing phone for everyone but they arent the first company to try this. Nokia and many other companies try this and eventually they just start releasing many subpar phones as opposed to only few good phones.
Then it would have impacted the Redmi Note 7 Pro sales. 710 in my opinion considering 675 already exists in the company.
Amen.
People who know anything about phones will rather go for stock android over MIUI(no ads, smoother, nicer looking, more updates).BUT what I do understand is that Xiaomi will probably miss on alot of potential customers who hate shitty MIUI full of ads, and that IOS-like interface, and want something cleaner looking. Xiaomi please are ADS WORTH IT LOSING THOUSANDS OF CUSTOMERS?
Ya these are some confusing times just like professor hulk said in the endgame.
Ya, I don’t like Chinese skins only exception being the Oxygen OS.
In the android world the skins that I like would be :-
1. Google Pixel ofcourse the purest
2. OnePlus Oxygen OS
3. Samsung One UI
4. Sony’s skin
5. Motorola
6. Android One
There maybe a Mi A3 Pro coz it’s based on the CC9 series which has one, so I’d say cross your fingers for that or go for Nokia 8.1 or 7.1 depending on how is the after sales service of Nokia in your country.
wasnt it confirmed there wont by any ads (as xiaomi ads, google one still present) in Mi 9T? I dont remember name but guy from redmi department confirmed that.
Isn’t 710 even better than 675
Redmi told that they won’t be removing ads as they need to make money for keeping the price competitive. Mi series devices aren’t supposed to have them. But after Redmi becoming a sub brand instead of just a lineup I think they baked the ads as a feature in MiUI across all devices.
By Google ads do you mean the ads shown by Google in their own app? Google makes money by showing apps during search results.
Yes Europe here so global rom I think
They are actually equal overall if 710 isn’t better.
1. 710 has 10nm architecture while 675 has 11nm.
2. 710 has more powerful GPU.
3. 675 has more powerful CPU.
4. 710 has better modems.
Yeah. The problem is that importing devices in India is really a tough job, and if they get imported somehow then you have to pay a good amount of import taxes.
Nah don’t go for it. A50 has heating issues with CPU throttle and very bad performance.
No ads in Europe.
It’s Asia where they smuggle their ads to consumers.
First generation of in screen fingerprint were indeed terrible, they have improved greatly since however, I’m not saying they’re on par with rear sensors for speed, but they certainly aren’t terrible.
A series has always been more expensive than the equivalent Redmis. So I don’t think they made Xiaomi less money, neither the the same audience.
Mi A1 was priced pretty close to the Redmi Notes. It all began after that, from Mi A2, price was increased, and the phone wasn’t worth the equal price too.
I’ve been unlocking and rooting phones since 2011, I’d say I know a fair amount about phones, and personally I find stock boring and prefer miui, has a few nicely baked in features, is very quick and stable, and the xiaomi.eu ROM I use gets updated weekly, I don’t get any ads whatsoever either, you’ve made a massive generalisation based on your own opinion here, but there are many who do disagree with you.
I have the the A1 with up to date software too, no adds included
I had a Mi A1 too and was torn between buying the Mi 9T and waiting for the Mi A3… Now I’m really glad I didn’t wait lol
Try removing the ir remote app.
Careful with HMD and the data leaks, they said they would solve it but the problem’s still there
Buy a Note 7 and flash AOSP?
If they really hate the A series what the point in bothering to release them anyway? Why did they start the series? The marketing, RnD and support costs are surely not worth it just to prove a point.
The galaxy Nexus had 4.65″ 720p screen in 2011.
Mi A3’s price is noticibly higher than its predecessors without any huge upgrades as they use android one so, there are no ads that can give users lower price , I don’t think that you’re 100% right when you said that no one would consider the Mi A3 as there are so many people who love stock android and do care about its pure software experience and can pay more to get a device from A series even if it has less value for money and those people don’t prefer using custom roms on MIUI phones.
at least 675 newer cores
Fun fact, the Redmi S2 launched May last year with an 6 inch 720p display as well. This is not the first time they pull something like this.
S3 had 720×1280, this is
720×1560, the ppi is close.
Well, to keep relations with Google. Software is handled by Google in android one except a few tweaks here and there by the OEM.
The Redmi Note 5 started at rs 8.999, the a1 at 13.900.
The A1 also had a smaller battery in exchange for the metal unibody.
You seem too want to find things to turn things the way you want.
Sounds like someone is desperate, because this phone launch was not what you expected. But to jinx Xiaomi doesn’t help either…
Ya but the fact is A3 is not justified by any means other than Android One.
Yeah, Kryo460.
Xiaomi is totally ruining the A series.
A1 was launched during Note 4 not the Note 5, hence it competed against Note 4. Mi A2 would have been the competition for Note 5 Pro not the regular Note 5 which you have mentioned if Mi A2 was a good upgrade as compared to the Mi A1.
Exactly this is what you see if you see from the POV of Xiaomi’s profit.
Yeah they priced it for ₹22,000 for 6+64GB, which is a bummer, only if it was 6+128GB then it would have been acceptable.
You obviously haven’t bought or used any of the Android one phones. The updates are very bad, almost like they didn’t do any testing at all. Lot of pulled updates due to bugs. Phones bricking(Mi A2 Jan-Mar19), data loss, losing network bands(Mi A1), wifi/BT audio don’t work properly etc. Latest one – sdcard get corrupt(Mi A1). Its almost like Xiaomi purposely wants people to think that its phones are awful.
Redmi is not a parent brand, Xiaomi is, but the thing is Xiaomi is pulling away Mi series from India. You can see the track record of Xiaomi in the past few months and compare it with last year’s you’ll see this year only Redmi phones have been launched in India.
I haven’t used A series but have used other devices even including the very first android one phones that were launched very first in and for India. And recently I have used the Moto One Power.
iphone xr has 720 too lol
Well I couldn’t have said it better. I’m loving my Mi A2 coming from an old iPhone 5s since last year, and I don’t usually change phones till they die or become very slow , but was still excited for Mi A3.
So suppose you want to stay below $300 range, what’s your current choice for a an Android one device? How are the Nokia ones?
I might only change my phone when Mi A4 or even A5 is out, assuming the series live that long, but just curious to know which Android one phone within that range is good
It was a downgrade if you wanted SD card and a headphone jack. So I didn’t upgrade.
In the same boat. I heard Asus is almost stock Android, so I am waiting for the Zenfone 6 to be released in the US now unless I can see something else that’s cheaper and fits the bill.
The Nokia 8.1 has only 12MP camera- I need to move on from that after 2 years with the A1.
Sorry, but with that screen resolution at that screen size it is not an upgrade.
Depending on where you are if you’re looking to upgrade and still want stock, Pixel 2XL can be bought on eBay (refurbished) for around 200 dollars. Still beats most of this year’s cameras and is an overall amazing phone even in 2019. Got one for my sister in law and she’s amazed by it. (Helps that she had a crappy phone before lol but still)
I would think hard before purchasing a MIUI phone in response to the shitty A3: it would prove Xiaomi right that the shit specs will increase their other phone sales.
I absolutely love the look of Xiaomi phones, but if we all now flock to MIUI, the A4 will be nonexistent or equally ridiculous.
Yeah and first iphone released it didn’t have ability to copy paste, video record, gps and 3g. That doesn’t make it right. We shouldn’t be looking at iphone to see what’s right and wrong
If you want a theory as to why…
The thing that stuck out to me right away was the characterization of Xaiomi’s skin as “AdUI.”
We all know in some regions on some ROMs there are what Xaiomi call recommendations and others call Ads. If you live in those regions then this is a possibility.
Some people don’t like what I will call “Righteous Indignation” (I’m not singling out this post in particular) and get rankled by this.
I’m running stock global on my Mi Note 3 and have NEVER seen an ad in my OS. All recommendations are off (never saw ads even before this) and I’ve never seen anything that could be called an ad.
Also, Xaimoi didn’t foist anything on an unsuspecting anyone. It’s the users choice to buy or not, if they don’t research a product before they buy it then more fool them.
From my viewpoint both statements in the post are mischaracterizations, so I thus disagree with them, I suspect the down voters have similar opinions but choose to use that arrow rather than long windedly explain themselves like I just did.
I didn’t down vote BTW, if I’m gonna disagree then I’ll state why…
I disabled ads when I bought my phone, got an update a few days later and they didn’t get re-enabled.
Have heard that Nokia phones’ software is a bit buggy. Not sure if it is a reliable option.
Here in India, Xiaomi is almost a monopoly with genuine good products in budget range but I hate MiUI.
Moto One Power would be my go to for a $300 android one device.
Yeah I felt the same as a tech person not that I had to upgrade to it.
I haven’t heard any such thing for the 7.1 and 8.1 infact you have a Gcam bonus on the 8.1. But like I said only buy Nokia phones if their after sales service is good in your area, otherwise don’t do so.
Its more an upgrade for the A2 Lite version in every aspect except the display res which sucks, I guess lite version have more sales on the A series.
Sounds like 710 is better
Yeah it sure is.
But lite versions are not launched in every market to begin with.
I thought I would upgrade for sure, seeing how I loved my A1 and assuming I’d love the A2 even more. Also assuming the same price point, even though I didn’t need to upgrade either.
How wrong I was.
Have been using my A1 for 2 years. No ads, ever.
Thanks!
You could be as wrong as the company itself which thinks it’s right but actually is wrong. You’ll be that much wrong nothing less nothing more.
I can’t speak for A3, but the Xr has a great display.
So you haven’t used A1 or A2?
I mean, Xiaomi is an internet company, they don’t get revenue from mobiles. Of course they want MIUI to sell more than the Mi A series.
I’m dumbfounded why Google doesn’t sell in all countries and regions where there clearly is a market for it.
I still think the Mi A3 will be a contender. A 720p screen will let the processor work a lot faster and won’t be such a drain on the battery. And if the Mi A3 doesn’t have Widevine level 1 support, Netflix and Amazon Prime will only be displayed in Standard Definition anyway. I’ll wait for the reviews before I condemn this device.
Things are getting messy for sure.
Not personally as my very own phone, but I have used the ones of my friends.
But let’s get to see the markets it’s being made available in, which would be after July 25th post to the even in Poland I guess.
Who actually wants an in-display sensor? Having it on the back is much more ergonomic.
Yeah but this time its even worse because of amoled and pentile Arrangement
There’s a mi a3 Pro coming. Wait for it. Could be very much with the India launch in September. Wait and watch
Crossing the fingers for that, but don’t you think the phrase just wait and watch doesn’t suits till September!?
My source tells me this. I can’t reveal the source.
He also told that the device would launch mid August but Xiaomi caught everyone (literally everyone) by surprise on July 14th with the A3 launch poster. Anything could be happening now
I hope the Pro launches sooner than mid-august.
A2 lite is better than A1 IMO
The only good (decent) under the display fingerprint scanners are in the flagship devices. The mid-range phones get the trash optical types which take ages to recognize a finger. I’d rather have a regular capacitive one.
Also you can’t unlock the bootloader on hmd phones. I know it’s Android One but still..
Except the A2 didn’t have a poor battery and the headphone jack wasn’t a xiaomi thing, but an overall phone thing.
I have the Mi A1.
Have NEVER had ANY issues other than the “notification LED” bugged for like a month. Which is like so irrelevant lmao.
Updates are great 😉
What about my a2 lite?
And people with android one have seen 0.
1 ad in your phone is 1 ad too many.
Hey that’s me! hopefully no one buys the A3 and it gets cheaper so i can pick up one around a2 lite price : )
Wait and watch for… what? A decent phone that is gonne be even more expensive than the already stupidly expensive Mi A3?
No thank you
>A friend of mine has the Mi A1, and last month or so, after an update, gets Ads as well.
False
\- On aliexpress you can buy K20 pro however they have global ROM flashed on them, by the resellers on aliexpress.
\- They are chinese variant of the phone with global ROM (software).
\- That is different from a ‘global variant’. One reason why its different is due to the 4g frequencies the phone supports.
K20 pro (chinese variant flashed with global ROM on aliexpress) – 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 34(2000), 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500)
Mi9T (K20 global variant)- LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 20(800), 28(700), 38(2600), 40(2300)
\- As you can see the global variant supports many different 4g frequencies. Different 4g frequencies become important depending on your country/region. in UK/Europe band 20(800) is the most important followed by band 3(1800), in other words if I buy K20 pro from aliexpress the 4g wont work in the UK/europe.
\- This is why Xiaomi phones generally dont work in American 4g networks. This is also why Hong Kong (which mainly supports band 3(1800) and 38(2600) gets global variant and you wont be able to connect a k20 pro bought from Beijing to Hong Kong’s 4G networks.
Mi A2 user here, (128gb) so far it’s been a superb experience apart from the update nightmares. Until someone posted a comprehensive how-to flash custom rom and recovery on this device somewhere Mid-june (and me getting tired of the update team not fixing the camera app for like, ever since Pie came out in December) I have never looked back to any of their stock Rom ever since.
Yes Mi A2 is shit, but I got this 128gb ver on Sale earlier this year (750-ish MYR, about 180 USD), and with a custom rom, its one of the best phones ever that I’ve used.
Tho no amount of custom rom/Magisk module can put back the headphone jack 😢
To be honest, any xiaomi phones with a custom rom is a match made in heaven, but that’s just my 2 cents.
Btw where’s my mi A2 gang at?
Lol I’ve been using the A1 for over a year and there’s no ads. I’m on the latest updates.
They could have just increase the price a bit as a premium for Android one, no need to make the phone worse
I am using a k20 pro bought across the border in SZ and I am connecting to 4G just fine in HK. I dunno where do you get your information but please do a fact check. Chinese phones works like global releases for East and SE Asia, just in EU it doesn’t have band 20 and the US, I can’t say cause your Telco is not standardised.
How is the under display fingerprint sensor an upgrade? It would be better if it is on the side button, ala S10e. And if they are really concerned that the A series would cannibalize other series, why bother making them?
720p means that it will run faster than a 2k phone. Also Android One makes it faster than MiUi equilivants. If camera is as good or better than Mi Note 3 and the price is under 200$, i dont see why you shouldn’t buy it
I think most people go for the A series is because of the Android One. I am one of them. If the Redmi Note 7 is running stock Android, I would get them 100% more than the Mi A3.
On the other hand, how is your wifi reception? Mine has been poor eversince the February or March update.
this one’s got a 4000+ mAh battery with a SD card slot and decent performance. so no complaints with the A3.
Not to mention the 11nm node, this phone will be a beast on endurance.
Now let’s see if Xiaomi will release a pro version or just stuck with normal Mi A3.
At least Indian pricing won’t be this ridiculous as in Europe
I’m not sure where is that coming from. My A1 doesn’t have any ads. Stock with the latest update.
They must have installed something.
Battery wasn’t good if you are more than a general user.
Totally agree with this point.
But the price isn’t going to be below $200.
The phone isn’t bad unless you start comparing it it’s predecessor phones not to mention the competition let alone.
it’s better than the a2 and a1 if that’s what you mean.
I hoped so too, because android one is controlled by Google and Google isn’t known to give ads in the UI.
But you know the fact right a generation old phone and an even older processor.
No, what I mean is comparing it to A2, it just can’t be called an upgrade other than the battery life. It’s more of an upgrade from A2 Lite which had a 720p display I guess.
>I mean is comparing it to A2, it just can’t be called an upgrade
it definitely is from the specs I read. better processor, better camera, bigger battery. just the display is slightly compromised on paper for an in display fingerprint which is unnecessary for this price imo.
The processor isn’t also much of an upgrade in performance or anything, you can say it’s similar to the upgrade of SD625 to SD626 to SD630.
So you are upgrading?
It’s not at all an upgrade thing if compared to the A2 specially, it can more likely be called the A3 lite.
but there isn’t much to rant about other than the fingerprint which they could’ve just used the regular faster one and improved the performance.
I like the idea of the phone case not having a hole in the middle of the back.
Difference being that it has an LCD.
This has a PENTILE AMOLED screen, meaning effective resolution is lower.
Yeah, exactly what I replied to someone in any one of the threads above.
By seeing track record Mi phones are more powerful than the Redmi Note series contenders.
It helps keep good relations with Google, and attracts customers who don’t like MiUI, but instead prefer clean vanilla android.
Ya 720p is more than a bummer, but it feels more like an upgrade of Mi A2 lite rather than Mi A2.
The Price is 250€ for 64GB and 280€ for 128GB versions in EU.. too much.
Then it’s even bad for the A3, than I expected it to be.
Really too much.
Guys the resolution on a smartphone display is overrated. For example the iPhone xr has just a HD display…
I’m sure most of you won’t even see a difference in the a2 and a3 display if you don’t put it next to each, but a 1hour longer lasting phone can make a big difference…
I said that too unless you compare it to other devices it’s good, but the thing is that A3 will be priced differently in different countries and everything will depend on that. And for the XR being mentioned you are forgetting that iphones are a different category themselves, no matter what Apple gives there will be stupid people to buy it for whatever the price it may if it has the logo on it. Android phones have competition, by which I mean serious competition specially in the budget department.
Amoled is a big upgrade over the mediocre ips, 720p+ is more than fine.
Right you’re correct.
It indeed will work in Hong Kong, the website I looked at hong Kong band wasn’t displaying the full info on the phone screen.
A2 lite has a 1080 display. Typing this from one
Someone in the thread mentioned 720p due to which I did here.
It’s called market flooding, kid. Samsung is #1 because it’s following the same policy.
I don’t think trading good quality components for nothing more than novelty “features” nobody needs is the right direction. This phone is a downgrade from the Mi A2. The display matters people – it’s the main means of interaction between you and your phone. It’s the part of your phone you interact with the most. If the display is bad, it’s pointless how good the rest of the phone is.
* It’s not 720p
* It’s not OLED, so no pentile matrix
Not only would the Mi A3 still have a lower resolution than the iPhone XR if it had an IPS panel, but its resolution is even lower than straight 720p because it has a pentile matrix. There is no comparison between the iPhone XR screen and the Mi A3 screens, as Apple’s XR screen, regardless of the low resolution, still stacked up against other flagship screens. Not that I would buy the XR personally, anyway. Too expensive, but that’s a personal problem mostly.
Shelf. It’s things like this that make the difference between a hit product and one that will hardly leave the shelves. It’s clear that Xiaomi sadly doesn’t care for the Mi A line anymore: after the Mi A1, ever single Mi A device was one step away from being a good buy and always had something significant missing. This trend has been consistent:
* Mi A2 – Great, but no jack and teeny tiny battery (I wonder one year later how many Mi A2’s surpass 3 hours of screen time in LTE)
* Mi A2 Lite – Has the jack and the big battery, but stuck on the somewhat slow Snapdragon 625
* Mi A3 – Seems to have finally be *it*, but the screen is an embarrassing downgrade that, in my view, make the Mi A2 at its now much lower price the better buy. The performance bump is rather insignificant, the battery bump is the one thing that really needed to be added, but the screen just outweighs the better battery life
720p is not fine in 2019. It was fine in 2011.
720p drove me crazy on the Samsung Note II’s much smaller Super AMOLED screen even back in 2012.
Thats the with the A1/A2, the updates are terrible but its cheap so its worth the hassle of fiddling around with custom roms and gcam. But now the A3 is not cheap.
Yeah updates are so great that :
– higher impedance headphones (>32Ohm) either cannot work or is faint after the Oreo update
– messed up bluetooth aptx/ldac mode, and only work in sbc
– made wifi disconnect or slow down when bluetooth is switched on/active
– have dual sim battery drain
– GPS becomes inaccurate when data connection and bluetooth is active
– gcam has focussing issues on Pie while it was ok on Oreo
If you don’t use the features I mentioned above, you won’t notice that updates suck dog crap.
Haven’t updated from Oreo. Its kind of my backup phone now.
I would suggest several things to improve wifi – switch off BT, location, but especially BT. If you are using the same wifi network name (ssid) for 2.4/5Ghz, use different ones.
I bought my A1 a year ago and passed my redmi 3s to my dad, he now is thinking about wanting my a1 and I wanted to get the A3 when I heard it is comming, I was excited about the features and then I saw the HD+ on a 6″ panel 🙁 I am now strongly considering mi8 or redmi note 7
Except that you do get a 7th-gen under-display sensor with the Mi A3, which is better than what most flagships that launched in Q1 this year have.
If you can’t imagine it, then I’d suggest actually looking at one in person.
I have a Mi A3 in my pocket right now and I’m perfectly happy with the display. I’m not saying you will be just because I am, but I think it deserves a look in person instead of being dismissed outright. It’s not as good as an 1080p screen, but unless I really strain my eyes to look for it I can’t really tell the difference.
I watch a lot of Youtube on my phone and i got to say there’s a notable difference when i switch from HD to FHD.
I just don’t think 286ppi is close to enough for a phone like this. For a budget phone ok but not phone like this.
Yep. Android One. And also you don’t need to wait to unlock the bootloader. The fact that the stock rom have some pervailent bugs that the devs didn’t fix since first version of pie is what made me switch to custom rom (evolution rom)
WiFi? I do think it was problematic but I have unlimited data, so WiFi isn’t a concern for me. But sometimes I do realize the shitty reception for the WiFi.
Btw get the RN7 and install a custom rom. I think the experience will be superb ☺
Sure, but videos aren’t the same thing as a screen display because videos can have their apparent sharpness affected by the downsampling or upsampling converter when they are remastered. You can’t take a HD video and say this is what a HD screen will look like on the phone.
All I’m saying is that if the screen resolution is the only thing holding you back, then it’s worth seeing one in person before you dismiss it offhand.
I watch movies on my phone too and not shitty compressed ones. You can definitely see the difference. Reading books goes out the window with that ppi.
>You can’t take a HD video and say this is what a HD screen will look like on the phone.
I know what a 720p amoled(pentile too!) display looks because i have one at home…. and it doesn’t look good. And that’s on 4.8 inch display…
Mia1 is getting better every time… Battery lasts now much longer than initially (easy a day, and fast charge is awesome). Probably the darkmodes are helping but oreo increased it drastically.
Wanted the a3 but chip and screen put me off… Just the design looks great (bezels on a1 looks old).
Ya Mi A3 is just disappointing when you know about the predecessors.
Anyone with the Mi A3 device and can give first hand info on it? Is the display really that bad – does it affect reading books (pdf files)? Or is the display fine and people are just compaining because, well, it says its 720p?
For simple users difference won’t be noticeable, and as for your PDF/reading requirements, ya you will see the lack in pixels if you zoom-in/enlarge the texts to read.
What’s gonna be the price for A3 and A3 pro in India?
No idea. A3 Pro might have been cancelled. We’ll get to know on 23rd
Motorola one action was just announced. Although it doesn’t impress. Nokia could bring something worthy to the table next.
Thats a really good comment. I wanted a real budget android one phone (I regret my choice as I game a lot and I could afford the mi 8) and I decided mi A2 lite. I am actually pleased with every aspect of this phone except well…., performence (mostly only an issue in gaming).
Why?
++Android one;)
+Pretty small notch
+Not to big
+Dual camera (nice for depth)
–sd625 (gaming is possible but pubg needs the lowest settings)
–it weighs 200 grams (unacceptable for a phone this size imp)
-big bezles (spelling?)
-micro usb
Nokia’s Android One devices have locked bootloaders.
No sale.
that and not having to grab the phone to actually unlock it. My previous was LG G3 so i was spoiled with double tap 😀
This is true for me too, my friend just bought a MI A3 and the screen atually suprised me by how vibrant it is coming from an LCD 1080p panel on my Nokia 7 plus.
