I know this phone has it’s flaws (720p screen OLED, Android 10, 6 months late etc) but when it comes to the camera (especially with GCam/Low light) It’s laughably good for the price, the selfie camera is a beast too, samples below!

This phone was too underrated because of its HD+ resolution…
Incredible pictures! Which GCam mod are you using? Does your GCam work properly on A10?
I had it and i agree with the pictures. They are stunning. Even the stock can pull of amazing quality pictures but….. I had horrible eye strain from the display,i read that a lot of people do as well so had to return it . I don’t know what kind of amoled they used but it’s shit. I never had eye strain with lcd never. Now I’m scared to buy amoled display phone because of this eye strain. I was eyeing mi note 10 lite but I’m terrified if my eyes and head will hurt again.
impressive Pics ! i just wish xiaomi would take Android One program more seriously. Imagine how crazy it would be if the phone would receive monthly security update + 3 years of major android bump.
gcam is just magic though, makes any camera take good pics!
heres one I took yesterday with my 2016 Redmi Note 3 Pro using gcam
It sounds like you’re very sensitive to PWM (pulse width modulation) which is the way most AMOLED panels control brightness; by essentially flashing the display on and off at a frequency that is usually imperceptible to the human eye. However, the lower you turn the brightness then the lower that frequency becomes, some devices have a far too low PWM configuration and some people just naturally are more sensitive to PWM to begin with. If you want to buy an AMOLED device you should make sure it has an option for “DC Dimming” which is an alternative way of controlling brightness which doesn’t require pulsing the display and therefore doesn’t cause eyestrain or headaches like PWM. It has a few tradeoffs like inaccurate colours at low brightness but it won’t have any of the physical effects of PWM. All the new OnePlus phones have this option, and I think most of the newer Xiaomi AMOLED devices do too. You can usually find out just by googling the device name and the phrase DC Dimming.
I read that already but look like it doesn’t help too much for some users. I wait for redmi k30 racing edition to be launched globally if it does i suppose it is possible to don’t launch at all but fingers crossed.
Redmi k30 racing edition has lcd
With Gcam you mean Google cam?
i wish xiaomi had as awesome hdr and night photo in their stock app as gcam provides. truly some masterpiece of software.
Please share the version you are using!
There are certainly Mi A3 owners around here who would like to achieve similar results.
😉
I use GCAM 3.2X on my Redmi 7a and can’t see much difference to the stock camera although I do like
Panorama mode
Sphere
lens blur
the timer
there’s a thread on XDA that gives you some optimum setting in advanced mode to use for best results
I would take a lower resolution for an AMOLED screen every day of the week.
Same, plus a better battery.
The day after I got my Mi 9T Pro (which AFAIK has the same sensor for the main camera as the Mi A3) I went for a walk to test the camera and I was appalled by how poor the photos taken with the main cam looked. They were soft, smeary, with poor dynamic range, weird colors and super yellow White Balance. Ditto with the frontfacing Cam, which processes and filters the photos to the point of being unusable.
I downloaded a GCam port on the spot and never looked back. It’s stunning how much better the pictures look as many examples in this sub constantly show. The hardware is not bad at all; paired with Google’s computational photography magic, it just shines.
Only problem with GCam is that it lacks distortion correction for the Ultra Wide (since no Pixel to date has an Ultrawide). Here’s hoping the Pixel 5 has it so we can finally crib that feature.
Which gcam are you using?
Technically yes, but GCam is a port to phones which aren’t supported by Google Cam
Officer Lee loves them, they just need more headshots for some bots in Guatemala fake Facebook accounts.

What G-cam models do you use?
It’s an Android app that isn’t the the Play Store
Can you imagine how great xiaomi phones would be if they came with pure Android and could be configured at purchase with miui? Their sales would skyrocket.
The good thing is that there are a LOT of custom ROMs for this device —and for most xiaomi devices in general.
Google Cam (the one available for Pixel devices), but modded by enthusiasts and adapted to various compatible devices.
Which mod?
Me too. I regret getting an LCD phone (Redmi note 7). It’s an excellent phone, but it feels bad that dark mode doesn’t change battery life. At least Gcam also makes a big difference here on the RN7.
Yep I agree I just wish Xiaomi would release a simple Android One ROM for every device they release as an option for power users.
Xiaomi phones are amazing hardware wise for the price but MIUI really brings them down!
To me this phone was treasure. 150 euroes, good camera, great selfie camera, good enough performance, insane battery time (both last two due to screen size) and at the end just better screen than a full HD LCD. Its not S10 screen, but for 150 euroes it looks better than any other for that price.
And what hurts me the most, phone was so much critized for that, but out there, there is Apple selling bellow FHD for years for 700 euroes and people are shitting their product less than this 150 euroes masterpiece.
I use [this one](https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-urnyx05/). It’s specifically tuned for the IMX586 sensor on the Mi 9T Pro and several other 2019 phones like the OP 7 series.
It’s based on GCam 7.3 and is frequently updated.
Hey witch mod did you use?
Also do you have any gcam that works with the wide angel lens?
Can you please share link of that gcam?
My mother has the same phone. Teach me how you did this lol
i think it’s this one

Those are some amazing pics! I’ve been trying to tweak my settings and I can’t seem to get the same result.
Could you please share your gcam mod and config file? Share that power with us noobs.
This is one of the best smartphones at its price range. Stock android, super amoled display, snapdragon 665..overall a great package for heavy users. The camera is also a beast❤
sorry for the late comment, but it is too much of a hassle to install GCam in the Mi A3? For my A1 I can’t bother enough to do the unlock>install>re-lock bootloader thing oops
