I just got the MIUI 12 update yesterday, version [here](https://i.imgur.com/2i4vknH.jpg).
Now I know its a beta, but I’m giving some impressions.
I feel like they messed with the notifications and status icons big time. Now they just put the app logo as the notification icon which is bothering me a lot. I think they tried to standardise all types of notifications, which leads to some inconsistencies. For example incognito mode on Chrome used to have the icon with the glasses and hat, now it’s just the Chrome icon. Also when a site is playing sound used to be the speaker icon, now again, Chrome icon. So it’s anyone’s guess what the notification is for. Screenshot [here ](https://i.imgur.com/QOXw8HA.jpg). Also I’ve seen some notification actions, like “Reply” or “Mark as read”, have like a “bubble” around them, while some others don’t, which is inconsistent. Screenshot [here ](https://i.imgur.com/nKqrJWn.jpg).
Noticed [this](https://i.imgur.com/T4GCECV.jpg) just now during a call. Why would you need two icons telling you you’re in a call? [Here](https://i.imgur.com/gX52Hs4.jpg) you can also see the missing bubbles on the actions.
Also the status bar tries to adapt according to the background but it’s not that accurate. On Chrome with dark theme the status icons change to black with a gray background when you open a page making it not so easily readable. Screenshot [here](https://i.imgur.com/lhlcbmp.jpg).
Control center looked nice when they announced it, but you have to swipe down from the right upper side of the screen to access it. Swiping down from left (or anywhere on screen) opens the notification shade and from there you can’t go to the control center. Since there’s no settings shortcuts on the notification shade, now the notifications stay at the very top and that makes it harder to access on big screen phones. So the idea was nice but execution was bad. (Yes, I know, you can still revert back to the old quick settings.)
There’s also a bug in the recents screen where a couple of most recent cards don’t appear at first. You have to scroll down a bit and up again to see them. I figure this is just a bug which is gonna get fixed so no big deal here.
Feel free to ask me anything and I’ll try to answer.
Edit: added MIUI version for clarity
Edit 2: added screenshots
Edit 3: new “bothering” issue added with screenshots
Can you add screenshots to what you’re saying?
[This](https://i.imgur.com/QOXw8HA.jpg) is what you get when you open incognito and got sound from one tab. Like I said, it’s just Chrome’s icon, no way to differentiate between notifications.
[This](https://i.imgur.com/nKqrJWn.jpg) is what I meant with the bubbles for notification actions.
And [this](https://i.imgur.com/lhlcbmp.jpg) is what I meant with black status icons on gray background.
First 2 screenshot in lock screen seems familiar
Ah, I see you’re a man of culture as well
Anyone using xiaomi.eu? Are there same issues?
Yeah, those look bad
How is Google Play Games for you? I just could not get it to run it would just freeze up my whole phone tried everything to get it work.
Also the icons in status bar is ugly and no option to change it.
Everything else seemed ok though.
I believe you can edit the notification icon under Settings > Display > notch and notification. That’s where is the path I believe. When I used the xiaomi.eu MIUI 12 rom for MI 8 Lite, I had the option to either turn it on and off. However, xiaomi.eu has more feature than Global version of MIUI. While it makes the menu more colourful with all the different designs that every application represent, I always had it off because like you said, the incognito mode is just the Chrome icon, which is annoying.
Google Play Games seems OK, I guess. I don’t use it that often to be fair. I opened it and played an in-app game for a while, no problems whatsoever.
What about when you tap on “Storage” when you go to “About phone”? Does it work for you? As soon as I tap on storage it closes settings altogether. Probably just a beta bug tho.
Hahahaha
Ya it’s just to log into pubg but it just freezes up in app and when trying to sign in.
Storage worked fine for me. Huh very weird bugs on this build lol it was definitely released a bit early lol.
Do you mens the “Show icons for incoming notifications” toggle? If so, then it’s not really a solution to the problem. I want the icons to stay there, I just don’t want **THIS** type of notifications in particular. MIUI 11 didn’t really have this problem so it’s weird that they went out of their way to change them when they were working just fine.
Well, to be fair, this is what we signed up for. This type of problems are pretty common in beta builds. I’m actually more than willing to report them somewhere but I don’t really know if anyone ever reads them bacause of the lack of response. I’ve used the feedback/issue app before but like I said, it feels like you’re talking to yourself.
No I don’t mean that toggle actually. Seems like Global version of MIUI 12 doesn’t have that feature. A lot of features are missing actually e.g.
The ability to enable Google Discovery instead of App Vault.
Ultra Power Saving Mode. This specific one was introduced in MIUI 11 and was only available in China roms / xiaomi.eu. They finally added it in MIUI 12 Global.
The ability to change font without using third party tool.
Tap on twice to lock. Global only has tap on twice to unlock. You need Poco launcher or a tool to enable that.
No ads. This is good actually. Ads are annoying.
I believe there are more. I used xiaomi.eu for almost a month. It has more features which are nice to have, however it wasn’t that stable (because it is a beta, of course it won’t be), battery performance wasn’t that great and phone was overheating to much to the point where I deleted it and went back to Global version.
I’ve tested this on my Mi 9T running MIUI 12 Beta Stable.
It seems that doesn’t change the notification in the status bar. It only changes the style of individual notification in the notification shade. They might have messed this up for MIUI 12
Yes, the option is there and you can still toggle between them, which was my first thought as well. Mine are set to Android style though. When I change to MIUI style, only the notification style itself changes, so the icons don’t change at all. IMO this is where the problem lies, maybe they haven’t implemented the Android style yet or there’s a bug that doesn’t change the icons on the status bar.
Yes, I’ve reported some of them in the “Services & feedback” app, but like I mentioned in a comment, they don’t actually acknowledge what you report, as in “we’re aware of the issue” or “can you help us further” or smth like that.
I’ve seen videos of the open beta and of xiaomi.eu which is based on the Chinese beta and the open beta is missing a lot of new features, as always…
I see. Xiaomi.eu does really have some nice perks, but the global version does the job just fine for me. I haven’t messed with ROMs since my Galaxy Note 3 when I used to change ROMs almost every month.
The debloating tool is helpful to remove some junk though so I’ve used that for some unnecessary Xiaomi bloatware.
Oh cool, I didn’t know about that. Thanks for the heads up 👍🏻
They showed all these features you mentioned in the global announcement video so I believe they will be added when MIUI 12 gets out of beta. It would be suuuper weird to show all the features during an official reveal and then just take them away. (I’m sure the Google Discovery function was shown in the video)
I didn’t see the announcement video. If what you said is true, then that’s amazing! There is no need for me to change back to xiaomi.eu once this version will be out. I’ll stick with Global version That’s good to know.
VPN with incognito ahhaha
Having so many devices xiaomi can’t deliver a perfect experience in any of them.
Can you see a gesture bar like iPhones have at the bottom of the screen? I saw it in a few screenshots online
That’s the android 10 navbar and it’s supposed to be a toggle in MIUI 12 although not all devices have it
Like the other comment mentioned, that’s the Android 10 navbar. I don’t see any toggle for that but in the telegram channel some users have managed to apply it. Doesn’t work for me though.
Ok, I have done some more research and found out that only the Ultra Battery Saving mode was shown in the official video and the rest I’ve seen in some videos using xiaomi.eu. Sorry for misleading you man.
Well dammit. That’s sucks. I noticed a lot of YouTubers are using xiaomi.eu as Global rom in their thumbnail or even title which clearly isn’t. I got confused as well. Anyway Thanks for informing me!
Oddly enough all the gestures work for me. Just can’t see the floating bar
I’m also a beta user but with Mi 9T Pro.
To enhance your experience, you should install the latest Miui launcher alpha from apkmirror ([Link](https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/xiaomi-inc/miui-launcher/miui-launcher-alpha-4-18-0-1920-05221947-release/#downloads)).
You’ll get new animation for recent app, the Android 10 bar at the bottom and swiping the left side or the right side on your launcher, you’ll see either control center or notifications panel.
I also have the mi 8 lite how do you get the beta miui?
Right now you can MIUI beta with xiaomi.eu. It’s a custom rom. You need to unlock the bootloader. I honestly don’t recommend it now as it isn’t that much stable. The new gestures aren’t smooth at all. Wait, like most user will, including me.
That VPN icon could be because of Blokada if OP is using it.
the instagram’s stories is fixed?
Close, I use AdGuard 👍🏻
I forgot about AdGuard, nice!
***I don’t know anything about installing a ROM on my phone.*** I messed with it 8 years… Is there any changes, problems related to changing my ROM? My phone won’t be “original” anymore? Could I change the ROM I installed to the official/original one?
Thank you 🙂
How did you get this update? Via ota? Or did you manually flash it?
Update came through OTA, but I had to sign up as a beta tester
Huh, would you look at that! It works! Thanks for the heads up! I thought it’s more of a system thing than a launcher thing. But still, I don’t really use the MIUI Launcher, I’m more of a Nova fan. Sadly you can’t use the new gestures with it, at least yet.
I totally agree with that last bit.
At least put an automated response Xiaomi!
Nope. On the Play Store it’s not compatible and from APKMirror it just won’t install.
Or use this [Modded Google Phone](https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-google-phone-v14-0-175904292-bubble-t3708218)
Not using xiaomi.eu but China internal beta (xiaomi.eu is based on China beta anyways). I tried both China and Global and the bugs are basically the same. One of the more annoying things is that for some reason China gets a MIUI styled permission UI (the window that pops up when apps request permissions) while Global decided to keep AOSP style and it just looks so out of place it actually annoys me.
I flashed the very first MIUI 12 (China) build a month ago and I was thinking about switching back to Global the moment they released their MIUI 12 but honestly these small inconsistencies made me reconsider. I get daily OTA updates anyways, while God knows when will Global release the next one.
Wjere can you sign in as beta tester?
Ok i have unlocked the bootloader like 2 months ago to download a costum rom but it didn’t work
I do not know if you had the same problem with instagram with miui 11, that is, any videos of 15 seconds or longer could neither be saved or be uploaded and it came with a “error” and nothing else. Please try to take a video of longer than 15 sec (basically two stories) and see if u can upload it. U can choose to upload a video from ur camera roll as well if u wish to. Pm if u do not understand what I mean cuz this has been a big issue for me and I hope they fixed it
How did you get the beta? I have the same phone!
Literally just asked this I swear that bug is dumb af can’t upload any more than 15 sec videos
To be honest I don’t think I’ve tried uploading a long video on stories with MIUI 11 so I don’t know if I had the issue. I tried now and it worked as it should, a long video was split into 4 and it uploaded normally.
It was somewhere in the MIUI community forum but beta tester sign up is closed now.
Yes, on the app and on the telegram channel as well.
Thank you so much now my problem is finally solved. I have emailed so many miui developers and tried to fix this so much, now it’s finally done.
Saw [this](https://i.imgur.com/KM1HUOW.jpg) in the telegram channel, related to your problem. Apparently they actually sometimes reply 🙂
See [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/gqu9hl/mi_9_global_beta_v12008_update_impressions/fryhjhw/). Yes, it’s fixed.
Good news! I talked to a MIUI developer about notification icon change. It is now acknowledged https://c.mi.com/thread-3084860-1-0.html Bug #21 🙂
You had to candidate on a Google forum, but that’s too late for now, you could apply between May, 5th and 18th (more or less). Check miui forum for more info.
Finally! How did you get in touch with a developer?

i Have a problem on my new poco f1 for the app clash royale which some of you might play. the problem is that before updating to miui10 it used to fit in my screen with the things below used to be streched which i was okay with. now after updating to miui 11 everything is just larger and fits to my screen but the problem is that when i click on battle , the tip box is so down below that it doesnt fit to my screen and goes out of it hence i am only able to read the first line of the tip.. is this a glitch of some kind an does anyone have a fix for it? pls help guys
The Mi A3 was the best value Xiaomi phone out there, and I was going to buy one as a replacement for my redmi note whyred, because it had an IR blaster, way superior cameras and would have enabled me to escape having to use that awful MIUI skin. Unfortunately, Xiaomi has discontinued this device, so I am going to be holding on to my note 5 for a while simply because I love the IR blaster, in spite of the horrible MIUI interface. But when I finally have to upgrade, I don’t think I will be buying another Xiaomi phone
I know what you’re talking about and I hate it too. Unfortunately the screenshots are still saved in that path.
On my mi 9, latest update have some problem with heating
