Looks like Google removed the part about 2 years of guaranteed OS updates from the Android One page.

yikes
There goes my plan to buy an Android One device.
This is good to know and thanks for pointing that out, I really do hope that there is some error in this, if not there goes wanting to get an Android One phone!
Oh, one of the main reasons for choosing this phone.. fuck I hate tech companies.
Android one will still get security updates. The issue here is that the promise of OS upgrades has been removed.
They removed it because the only upgrade left now is P and Q. They are definitely going to provide OS upgrades till Q as the Android One was released with the promise of the same.
Maybe this is an indication that the company is close to replacing Android OS with the rumoured (don’t recall the name) new OS that Google is working on.
So, I guess, the Android life is now limited to only a couple of years.
I know.
I meant to say that Google may not be interested in upgrading A1 OS further after Q, thus there’s no question of mentioning about any upgrading in the official site.
They will have to comply with the upgrades to all the A1 phones upto Q. Any new Android One phones made thereafter with Android Q will have no future releases in terms of upgrades to OS. The security patches are hopefully going to continue.
So, what happens then to those who have an Android One device?
Could we blame HMD Nokia for this?
Xiaomi seems to be doing fine with their Android One phones. But HMD lately had been struggling with updates with some of their phones.
I was wondering about this too, since i just bought a Nokiq phone days ago. I’m shook.
Just one additional reason for choosing a device with good custom ROM support. Fortunately, many Xiaomi devices are very developer friendly.
Mi A2 Lite got the Pie update …
Uh oh. The Mi A2 as my automatic recommendation for €200, now what?
