Is this still the case with custom roms?
Change your region to China and start blasting pro tiawan shit on webui, alibaba or MI forums. They’ll put your phone in self destruct mode and take your kidneys and wife. Yes I meant kidneys.
Only if they come with Xiaomi bloatware on MIUI variants. But also why one should NEVER use the Xiaomi spyware/spamware on any of the Xiaomi phones. Even if you don’t custom-rom, least you can do is debloat the device.
Note, Xiaomi bloatware phones home. There are plenty of tutorials on how to kill Xiaomi bloatware.
Custom roms are where its at.
I’m switching countries every 2-3 months, and I have to say, no wonder my phone was always trying to send strange txt messages to someone all by itself and giving me errors. I don’t usually even get a cell phone plan that includes texting or calls, so, WTF this is insane? I mean, in the US if you send a text to an international number it can cost as much as $1/SMS on AT&T. How can they incur fees by sending SMS without permission? It could cost someone a fortune.
“In addition, officials said they also found a second issue impacting Xiaomi phones, which also sent an encrypted SMS message to Xiaomi servers whenever the owner chose to use the Xiaomi Cloud service.”
Went through the original report in Lithuanian, here’s some stuff not mentioned in the article:
* Since 2017 there were 9 Common Exposure Vulnerabilities uncovered on Xiaomi devices concerning personal data security, 1 on OnePlus devices about 3rd parties being able to sent SMS messages without permission, and 144(!) on Huawei devices mostly concerning interfering with device functionality
* They looked into the Xiaomi Mi 10T running global MIUI 12.0.10 on Android 11
* 10 serious security risks were found in total, with the report only talking about 4 of them. The rest will be further analysed and the results will be published before the end of the year
* Preinstalled apps on Xiaomi devices send data about other installed apps to Tencent servers
* Xiaomi Cloud stores your phone number regardless of whether you choose to sign in using it or your email
* Automatically sent and then deleted SMS messages were only detected to be sent if Xiaomi Cloud is on
* The P40 is the only phone they tested that got Android security updates on time, with the OP8T and Mi 10T being 2 and 3 months behind respectively
* Huawei’s AppGalery automatically uses multiple 3rd party repos for apps not available on it that track user data and contain a lot of fake apps and malware
* Mi Browser, in addition to the mentioned stuff in the article, also tracks if you’re using a VPN and, if so, which one
* The censorship code in MIUI is mostly focused on blocking incoming and not outgoing media and is off by default, but the code exists and can be remotely enabled by Xiaomi at any time
Which apps do that? Most devices should be able to uninstall apps up to leaving only nine of the original after 12.5.
Free Tibet
Just checking 😀
I fucking love Taiwan. Winnie the pooh can suck it.
I’m checking, yes
I bought Xiaomi Poco phone because it’s extremely cheap for the price performance ratio, but I’ve installed an AOSP custom ROM, Now I can enjoy a good phone without Chinese bloatware.
Taiwan is a country!
Taiwan. Tibet.
…looks over shoulder.
Do hope Xiaomi addresses this, or they might end up having a bad time in EU.
Aight first xiaomi phone i ever owned and will be the last, i got nothing but an annoying UI that looks clean but has many annoying unclean shit and privacy concerns and fricking forcing me to use and suffer through their shitty cloud service for a private album.. goddamn can’t i install one ui here 🤣🤣
Was there any info about having tested Samsung, apple, Nokia phones also or just Xiaomi, OnePlus and Huawei?
So you’re saying that Redmi phones are safe….!
Incidentally, can I install a custom Rom without rooting the phone? I would prefer a more secure custom Rom, but when I’ve done it before some of my apps (such as banking) won’t work on a rooted phone ‘for security reasons’ (which I know is rubbish).
Maybe this video helps? I have the same phone.
Free Tibet,” “Voice of America,” “Democratic Movement,” “Longing Taiwan Independence,” and others
… If you can read this, my Mi9TPro is not flagship chinesd phone 🙁
Do you have the balls to use these phone!?
What phone is it? I couldn’t stand miui and ended up installing a custom ROM, aside unlocking the bootloader it was mostly smooth sailing.
Im running a mi 11 ultra love the device hate the rom
It’s probably a knee jerk reaction and another chapter in the ongoing [**degeneration of diplomatic relations** between Lithuania and China](https://thediplomat.com/2021/08/whats-behind-lithuanias-outreach-to-taiwan/) because the former commited the *HORRIFIC* act (to China’s eyes) of letting Taiwan set up a “representative office” in their country.
Just the 3 models mentioned in the article. They were specifically investigating Chinese manufacturers.
English version of the report

If you don’t want the bloatware it takes like 5 minutes to remove.
Your phone does that when changing country, it’s entirely normal.
Rooting is a security problem, so it makes sense that banks don’t want their apps on rooted phones. Most custom ROMs I’ve used came without root, for example Pixel Experience isn’t rooted, official LineageOS shouldn’t be either, though LineageOS is honest about being a custom ROM, so security checks can fail
Well I wish I screenshoted it so we could discuss more properly, I wiped my phone before passing through customs last time
IIRC
1. anything normal shouldn’t be causing error messages, it should work without error
2. I do recall seeing it as something Xiaomi
But yeah sorry I’m in no position to argue without a screenshot
ADB disables it but doesn’t remove permanently.

Magisk can hide root

Thanks.
Why did you wipe your phone before going through customs?
There are some bloatware that can’t be removed (if removed will result in bootloop or not booting), for example xiaomi security app, not to mention that the core miui apps may also have ability to do some spying.
And for some people , the whole miui is bloatware, so the way to remove it entirely is by installing custom ROM, though custom ROMs still use proprietary xiaomi blobs, and the firmware partitions aren’t touched/aren’t replaced.
i haven’t used a xiaomi before, but am considering an 11 ultra. Is this what the xiaomi.eu ROM achieves? a debloated MIUI?
custom MIUI roms all the way
https://xiaomi.eu/
I got my poco x3 pro and switched to lineage the very day I was able to unlock the bootloader. If I can do it, anyone can.
Don’t think too much about the value add features like scrolling screenshot or IR blaster. Of you really need them, most of the features can work with third party apps.
I would recommend something like pixel experience, lineage, or arrow.
probably secret spy hehe
For some reason my autocorrect changes Taiwan to China??? Gotta install Gboard to get around it
Usually for Xiaomi devices, the IR blaster will work on official LineageOS ROMs, though no bundled/stock apps that make use of it.
Fuck I’m mi 10t user help
Time for a nice custom rom. Try arrow or lineage.
Bro.. iPhone scans your entire device. I’m sick of this trade war being fought at the cost of the users.
Xiaomi just became no. 2, I would’ve been surprised if they weren’t attacked.
no its just reused shit codes from chinarom to global
Xiaomi.eu ROM solves most of your issues. Use alternative gallery app like google photos or whatever. No need to use any of Xiaomis own apps.
What is likely happened here is that xiaomi, in order to sale in China, have to comply with Chinese laws. So they implemented the censorship module. But they compiled it into the OS for exported phones as well. But the thing is, if they enable this censorship, or Chinese government has a secret plan to use this method to control public narrative, it will be caught in a second. And people will know what is being censored and intent of censorship. It will backfire. So it doesn’t really make sense at all to be an intentional desire to add censorship for political and public brainwashing.
The report also didn’t find anything in Huawei’s device or oneplus device. So its likely not a marching order from the ccp or government to export censorship abroad. If so, then all products with Chinese origin should all have them. Yet, they said people should throw away all Chinese phones. That is a much wider accusation than their evidence shows.
I also doubt ccp has any secret and marching plans to manipulate global narratives through Chinese companies’ international business. Chinese phones have large market share all over the world, huawei’s networking equipment is in a lot of countries. But have anyone was censored from posting negative China or ccp comments on their phones? Tencent owns a large share in reddit, and alibaba owns SCMP. But reddit is filled with “fuck china, fuck ccp” comments and news. And SCMP seems to free to write negative China news like always. I have seen a lot of anti-china and fuck china posts on Tiktok too. And the amount of negative news on China in the past 3 years has to be the worst in a long while. If they are secretly preventing people from saying bad things about China, they aren’t doing a good job.
And censorship will always back fire, people will always want to do the thing you try to prevent them from doing. Truth will always surface. No amount of brainwashing is able to prevent people from knowing the truth.
🤔🤔

Who in their right mind doesn’t? It’s the only time they have free reign to demand access without a warrant or cause. God only knows what sarcastic inside joke one of your friends may have made on a telegram message that will make them decide it’s time to do a thorough search.
Now they dig into your work laptop and see encrypted backups. Now they demand you decrypt all of this, while you know you’ve signed a court protective order and are liable in a million different ways should you provide anyone access not under the advice of an attorney (perhaps for a foreign state) (and especially me, someone who doesn’t have an attorney handy at all because I’ve never had a need for one). Now you have to admit to your boss and subsequently to the judge that there was an “event” where data was exposed. Now there is public embarrassment for your company and your head is on the chopping block. yeah no thanks!!
People need to think of customs & immigrations as a danger zone – BEWARE!!
Apple… Hold my beer…
And there’s the guy who leaves an inside joke on my phone message history that gets me searched lol
No shit Xiaomi is trying to make unlocking the phone as hard as possible (having to wait 7 days to unlock the phone..)
Going to flash a custom clean rom on it
https://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-secret-blacklist-explained/
A lot of it is just straight up misleading, though. They even fucked up some of the basic stuff, like giving the wrong MIUI version.
It appears to be 404 now.
It isn’t.
[Then there’s also this](https://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-secret-blacklist-explained/)
What about the warranty, does it get cancelled?
[Does not appear to work for me, might be a problem on my side though.](https://imgur.com/a/cqv84IQ)
No.
They’re not that big as*holes as Samsung z fold 3 and cameras not usable on unlock
Google already collects all your data, and censor you, anything negative you look up about the american empire will be censored, 9/11? Censored, look up Taliban? Censored.
So really, all these big countries censor you in their own way, it sucks that there even exist monopolies on services like search engines, operating systems and what not.
Im still bothered that i can’t just install “secure folder” feature, or fix second space literally hundreds of threads and comments on these threads have the same issue of not being able to send photos to the second space, most likely because of Android 11, i am using samsung music as my main music app it just feels better and is much smoother has better features,
And since the moment i have got this phone everything felt off, like copying stuff with bluetooth is followed by alot of bugs and issues, this is kinda disappointing and i wish they fix those asap
Which partitions doesn’t get touched??
dsp, modem, rpm, keymaster, tz, lksecapp, aboot, sbl, cmnlib, cmnlib64, devcfg, splash, and some (most) of them have clone (bak) partitions.
stock MIUI recovery and fastboot ROMs contain images to be flashed to those partitions, custom ROMs mostly don’t, even in the rare case when the custom ROMs ship them, they are just stock images extracted from stock MIUI ROM.
They are part of the “firmware” partitions, which sometimes custom ROMs mandate the users to update (or downgrade) them separatelly.
The name of those partitions may vary, there may be more or less of those partitions, depending on the device.
Do you think those partitions may have the potential of hiding a spyware amongst the real purpose?
Have potential to hide spyware: YES, possible.
Likelihood: NO, very small probabliity, because the risk of being caught is more or less the same of hiding spyware in the system.
A lot of them are actually in English in the file, too.
https://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-secret-blacklist-explained/
This is my article… The words are in English? Words aren’t blocked at all, either.
Am still not receiving all push notifications sounds on Facebook on redmi note 7 pro fix for me to get back please
Ahh, America and their allies dumping shit on a Chinese company because they’re scared as fuck, how surprising. Check https://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-secret-blacklist-explained/ and see for yourselves lol
it’s because of the backslash \ breaking the link
