I did the same downgrade almost 2 years ago from Pixel 2 to Mi A1. I regretted the purchase of the Pixel 2. For an average user, it had the same specs except the CPU and camera. Just installed GCam and the phone took decent pictures. And for 150€ I couldn’t complain at all.
Anyways, I sold my Pixel 3a because I had enough of the software. I am a gestures user and it is beyond me why having gestures enabled requires a fucking navigation bar what displays mostly a black bar below white content. It looked really awful and that pissed me off to be honest.
I ordered a Redmi Note 7A for 80€ and it blew my mind that there was no navigation bar when I enabled gestures.
Sorry, but my first impression of MIUI: better than Stock Android, coming from someone who had all Nexus and Pixel phones.
The fingerprint sensor is 10x faster than the Pixel 3a’s fingerprint reader. Once the fingerprint sensor of the Note 8 came in touch with my finger just for 10ms, I could let go my finger from the sensor. Nice.
Okay, the camera of the Pixel 3a might be next-level, but what I like about Note 8 Pro’s camera is the 64MP sensor: When I zoom in the picture, it doesn’t look blurry as I zoom in pictures taken with the Pixel. And for someone who bought a Pixel 3a just for the camera, who also take 1x picture in a month, I shoudn’t care about the camera of the Note 8 Pro at all.
I really love MIUI. This OS feels more polished than Android 10. Better features, superior gestures.
Thanks for reading.
Enjoy your device dude… In the end it is all about what makes you happy. Nothing else matters. ✌🏻
i cant uderstand people who buy expensive phones to get 1 picture a month, or even 10. those mid to high range xiaomis can take very solid photos with good lightning and gcam mod. for half or quater the price. you did so good with your “downgrade”.
del5eted.
I’m not even going to argue. I think exactly the opposite of yourself. All MIUI adds to the table is crap imo.
You are arguing
I kinda know that feeling. I like the camera of my RN7, but where to take photos? There’s nothing interesting around here, really.
Downgrade? Pixel 3a is a downgrade from Note 8 Pro. 3a is a good phone but for $400 it is the shittiest compared to Redmi phones.
Should have gone with the Note 7 instead of 3a… but now you have a good phone.
I have a note 7 coming from an iPhone 8
iOS is more polished and just works.
Bang for buck the note 7 is great
The camera even with g cam / hyper cam is hit and miss
Night photos are super bad, selfies and videos are also bad it’s the only thing that lets this phone down
If your a typical snap chat instragm person I find the videos here are always choppy but apparently that has something to do with android
Lets agree, the 3a’s price is crap, could buy the Flagship realme phone that has a 90hz display and a good battery with a s855+.
I think youu meant, upgraded
I went from mi mix 2s back to mi A1 (mix broke) and I know what you mean about miui. I miss the gestures for sure and I also thought the UI looked more polished. I should probably just install gcam on this and settle for a while. It’s pretty gross how much money people spend on phones these days.
Just switch from the S10+ to a mi 9t pro, I hate curved screens and the hole punch which started so great got more and more intrusive.
It’s only been a week and haven’t regretted the decision at all. On the Samsung I averaged about 8hr SoT with the mi it’s been somewhere in the 12-13 hr range.
I’d never buy Pixels because of the overprice. Loved the Nexus. That doesn’t make MIUI good. AOSP is still the best.
How on earth are you getting so much screen on time?
Cheers and more power to you!
P.S: The only con I see with the Note 8 Pro, personally speaking of course, is the Mediatek Soc. Am sure it’s a nifty little device like most Xiaomi offerings and punches way above it’s asking price.
Low brightness, max power saving mode and sometime just using grayscale
Exactly, that’s why I will get the RN8.
As a Mi 9T owner I feel you on not needing the best flagship out there.
Pixel 3a with Android 10 with full gesture enabled is that bad?
Yep, i also think gesture on miui is better than stock
As someone who has almost completely used nexus and pixel or very light skins like oxygen os since 2010, I was quite pleasantly surprised with my k20 pro experience. I think software experience is overrated, over a period of time, you will get used to it and get along just fine. The main concern was the camera but I didn’t feel that the photographs were that big of a downgrade over my pixel 2 and in cases where I wasn’t that happy, I just used the gcam port. I get a lot of benefits though, hugely better battery life, dual sims and better performance
I’m planning to buy this phone but Im worried about touch jitter or latency issues, do you face any problem with it?
None!
You could’ve just installed Fluid Navigation Gestures on your Pixel, same Gestures as Miui but with stock Android. That’s better.
Pixel 3 looks like 2005…hardly a down grade
Considering each device is made by someone different, they don’t really have a “line up” to speak of.
I just don’t get why anyone is paying for super old looking phones..what’s with that god awful bezel?
>Pixel 2 to Mi A1. I regretted the purchase of the Pixel 2. For an average user, it had the same specs except the CPU and camera.
it does not have the same specs or camera. it’s just so far apart! mi a1 camera was so terrible I could spot the difference after using my Moto he.
There is gcam now available for RN8 pro as well. BTW great decision!
This exactly. A Xiaomi with a custom rom on it is the champion for me.
Fite me.
Yeah. Good purchase man. If photos aren’t your main thing, then the Note 8 Pro is definitely a much better phone.
>I am a gestures user and it is beyond me why having gestures enabled requires a fucking navigation bar what displays mostly a black bar below white content. It looked really awful and that pissed me off to be honest.
This is what pissed you off???! Gestures on Android 10 are pretty nice IMO. I never imagined that tiny black bar would annoy anyone. It’s much better than what stock Android had on Pie. But to each their own I guess.
Is grayscale a thing? How?
Does the latest release include the night mode without “installing” those config xml files?
Yes, but also no. I currently use Mi 9 with Xiaomi EU. My first experience was with Mi 5, and went through all this trying to find multiple stock ROMs. It will never work out. All of them have bugs, or some feature missing. Important ones as NFC payments, Google Assistant, are commonly not working.
Even being tech savvy, it’s not a nice path to travel.
Android 10 custom roms in general still need a few bugs worked out.
As i used both if them you downgrade only these part
Display- much better in pixel 3a with always on
Speakers- much better in pixel 3a dual speakers
Mic- pixel 3a alot better capturing audio
Camera- 3a is another league
Software and smooth also to the 3a
All other point will go to note 8 pro
Sorry I cant say
how much worse note 8 pro’s camera is in your opinion?
Plus I like being updated. Android 10 is old.
The way you put it, doesn’t seem like a downgrade at all.
Are you having any screen issues? White lines in the upper part ? Seemingly dead spots on the bottom left and right?
wut?
Have you done any hard gaming on it. Thermals seem ok?
Oh sry got confused with MIUI 11.
It’s in the pull down menu
I only see Reading Mode, but that’s not black and white, is it?
When in the pull down menu, there should be a box that says edit, in that the first one should be greyscale.
Xiaomi has exceeded all my expectations. I have a note 7. I am so impressed with this device.
That I am now wanting to buy the k20 pro premium edition.
12gb ram 512gb Rom 855+
I am very pleased with the 48mp camera on the note 7. The k20 is even better.
As someone who has distanced themselves from using Google services.
I will be ordering the China Rom and install Google play. This is because I tend to use other app stores. And use other email services.
My phone is better without relying on Google so much. I have an excellent keyboard called swiftkey. It’s better than the Google keyboard.
Xiaomi is one amazing company and there phones are simply better than Apple, Samsung etc. China are making the best phones on the planet… They have only just begun! 😊
