No… No it isn’t.
*5 years later
First, you’d need to have a minimum of 500 medals in your MIUI forum account order to download the update
Then you need to ask for update permissions in MIUI forums stating why you need to update
Then wait about 3 days for a reply, then download the authenticator on your PC
Connect your phone and run the program on your PC, and your phone will be authorised to install the update
Only one update a month per MI account
Yap camera on Mi8 is really good. They might not be literally on par with those phones, but ther are not far off
You forget “Added few bugs not present in the previous version”
Sir VOLTE when???
You fooled me for 5 seconds.
Good job! lol
Go on, show us one these amazing pics you take with your phone.
Excuse WHAT? Lockscreen notifications are gone???? Tf that was a useful feature why remove that??
Expected answer Mr. Photographer.
Even the best photographer in the universe would say that the camera on the Mi 8 is objectively inferior to that on the Pixel or on the XS Max. Without even getting into the superior software processing that Google’s camera provides, the hardware on flagship phones is just better.
I don’t need to know how to use a camera to tell that you don’t have a Pixel 2 or a girlfriend with an XS Max.
Maybe he uses GCam ? Then it would be similar or same as Pixel
Spending the time to tweak manual shots still doesn’t change the difference in hardware, or the fact that very few people with phones have the time or bother to do such things.
Camera software is half of the equation.
THANK YOU SIR

BATTERY FAST DRAINING PLS FIX MR. MIUI
He uses GCam
Decreased battery capacity to make phone thinner…. lol
r/xiaomemes
I use gcam too since I am on PixelRom right now. But stock cam on MIUI is better in my opinion.
\>Added MIUI forum medals as stickers in camera app
the real reason MIUI camera is better than GCam

THANKS MIUI TEAM ALWAYS FAST, KEEP FAST. GREAT NEWS
As I said before, software is half of the puzzle. The camera hardware in top flagship phones is simply better than that of the Mi 8. I use GCam myself with a lot of tweaks but it still doesn’t get nearly anywhere as close as a Pixel or Note 9. This difference is especially apparent in shots with challenging lighting.
My argument retains its credibility because it goes unchallenged by you. I never said that you didn’t have a girlfriend (though with this attitude you’re sort of raising some eyebrows), I just said you didn’t have a girlfriend with an XS Max. But you are free to deflect away. How about comparing your phone camera to A DSLR or even a Mirrorless point and shoot? I’m sure you’ll go places with that phone camera of yours…
Medals need to be compulsory on all outgoing emails, just like “sent from my iphone”
And then it will tell you it couldn’t unlock, not giving any error code

Really? I mean most of those above are true though…
It is but, aren’t they talking about manual settings? The camera hardware on the Mi 8 isn’t that bad
Also badly translated
“After 300 hours we couldn’t unlock the device”
Omg, that’s a thing
Do you have evidence for this claim? You’re saying the sensor and lens setup are identical? I am of course referring to the Pixel 2, and not the Pixel 1.
The IMX378 was only used in the Pixel 1, not 2. We don’t even know the exact model of the Pixel 2’s sensor, we only know it’s capabilities (PDAF and a coprocessor for image processing to name a few). These features enable it to pretty much hit top tier camera quality – arguably still better than a Note 9 DESPITE it scoring lower on DXOmark.
My point wasn’t that it was bad, just that it was still not as good as more developed cameras in Google’s or Apple’s flagship phones.
Like 500MB?
You hope so. More likely 2GB
Today was the day I could unlock my bootloader on my rn5 I’ve installed a custom ROM and so glad I can leave miui behind
it’s actually even worse than that, usually it says “after 360 hours of trying to unlock the device” when it really means “try again in 360 hours”.
i don’t know why the translation is that bad when it’s fine for the rest of their products.
Is there anyway to reenable lockscreen notifications?
Since I updated my phone to miui10 I haven’t had any lockscreen notifications though? I have show all notification content on lock screen enabled but I can’t see notifications until I unlock the phone. Maybe a bug.
RN5, Global Stable
E* ok they seem to be selectively working now
Doesn’t look like improvement
Every. Fcking. Indian. Comment.
Yeah. I just learnt that I have to wait for the unlocker.
Oh, this reminds me of a pain I had installing custom ROM after checking out MIUI 10 beta. Took me 2 days to figure out what is anti rollback and how to go around it. And then I had to wait 2 weeks for unlock, even though I already had permission to unlock phones, and didn’t unlock one in almost 2 years.
Hahah
Does anyone know why are Indians so keen on VoLTE?
Because Jio is a 4G only carrier that offers data plan that are almost Unlimited quota at very competitive price.
My problem is that app opening/closing animations and the recent apps menu are stuttery. The performance is not what I’d expect after so many months of development. My 2 year old Redmi Note 3 is noticeably smoother.
4G only? so without VoLTE, they literally could not make calls?
if that’s it, then that makes a lot of sense. i thought they just enjoyed having volte or something.
Yes but if the phone doesn’t have volte support I think they can use the Jio app for calls
Not Indian, but one day I had nothing to do and followed a conversation about it on Telegram. There is an App to do it, but it drains battery and it keeps a permanent notification to run in the background and catch calls
To be honest I would never sign up for a carrier that works on 4G only as 4G reception is nowhere close to everywhere in Italy, but you do you. I don’t know, maybe in India every single inch of land has LTE reception, then I get the point I guess.
Does it roam on other networks? Iliad is a new carrier in Italy and it has their own towers, but in most of Italy they just roam on Wind/Tre networks
