As first reported [here](https://www.androidpolice.com/2020/01/02/uh-oh-xiaomi-camera-feed-showing-random-homes-on-a-google-nest-hub-including-still-images-of-sleeping-people/#1), Google disabled support for all Xiaomi devices in Google Nest and Google Assistant until security issues have been fixed.
Edit: As reported by /u/Phil_O_Sophiclee, functionality for yeelights, desklights and possibly other devices has been restored. Camera integration still seems to be disabled.

That’s the origin of the decision by Google. I think they made the right call. Xiaomi shouldn’t take security issues like that lightly. Interesting to see the reddit->news->company decision->reddit cycle.
Is that why my Mi Band isn’t sending sleep data to Google Fit?
When did you first notice that issue?
Today. Last night’s data didn’t sync.
Then that might be why. If it’s like that for others too, they might have disabled Google fit integration along Nest and Assistant integration. Xiaomi is trying hard to get established in the European market/western market right now, it will be interesting to see how this debacle will play out.
Thanks. For bulbs and most of lights stuff, you can use the Yeelight service (sadly, it doesn’t support my bedside lamp, so gotta wait for mi home to come back)
I’d love to use Yeelight but it just won’t connect to my Google Home app. Guess I have to wait till they fix it
This is a great time for Home Automation fans to look at Home Assistant.
The current version can almost entirely be configured using the GUI, making it much easier than just a few months ago.

Wouldn’t want the majority of the general public to actually know how much power they have.
*Mi Home product integrations or commands* for the Assistant…. not ALL products by Xiaomi… like cellphones.
It actually hasn’t been that simple. While switching to Yeelight has let me get back my Yeelight branded light strips, Google Home ALSO isn’t letting me control Xiaomi branded bulbs and desk lamps with Yeelight (they just don’t show up, but I’ve tried Yeelight before and they used to work, and they show up in the Yeelight all, so Google seems to be blocking them).
This is infuriating. On the one hand this is why I trust Google with security and security does come first. But this is a camera issue so cutting off my lighting control to address a camera issue is infuriating… But so is Xiaomi letting it get to this point and not doing something themselves to keep Google happy (like disconnecting their cameras while they investigate).
Will it not connect at all, or will it only not show Xiaomi branded items? It’s working for me but only for Yeelight branded lights.

Statement by google: “We’re aware of the issue and are in contact with Xiaomi to work on a fix. In the meantime, we’re disabling Xiaomi integrations on our devices.”
Oohhhhhhh this is why my calendar is not working with my watch. Wait maybe its not working at all…damnit.
edit: Nope google calendar is working fine and syncing on my mi 9t… Good news. But not my watch. So personal issue. Thanks for playing.
Any word on which region cameras are affected, or is it the same firmware for all regions? Just curious, really. No word on the intended region for the affected cameras. Maybe it’s just my paranoia acting up, but maybe it’s gray-market chinese-intended cameras that are suspectible to this?
Oh, ok. I’m sure they’ll fix it. I only have a Google Home Mini, but it’s surrounded by Xiaomi devices including a MI Mix 3 5G, MI TV Box, etc.
Interesting argument for not exclusively investing in a single manufacturers “Family” of products.
I doubt this issue has anything to do with the device itself or the firmware version. Afaik all Xiaomi security cameras send their video feed first to a Xiaomi server. You can then access the feed via the server. For western customers, this is a privacy concern since both Xiaomi and the Chinese government theoretically have access to your camera feed at all times. In this instance, there probably was a bug in the software the server is running. It also makes me believe that Xiaomi uses bad encryption (if they use encryption at all).
It just won’t connect, after I give it a try it redirects me to the main page of the app. I’m using Xiaomi bedside lamp 2
That sounds like the same result as if you had no devices. I think it’s the same issue I had because your only device is Xiaomi branded.
My Xiaomi bulbs work fine with Google home. The Mi Home option was removed so I switched to Yeelight account linking and then turned them on and off with 2 second intervals (the standard reset procedure) to re-pair them in the Mi Home app, and they showed up fine on Google Home.
So that’s why my light suddenly went offline…
All my bulbs are disconnected, can’t start my robot …xiaomi sucks more and more every day
I don’t know what is more worrying, the original buffer bug or the fact that Google can just nuke any device it wants at will.
Fanboys downvote ahah
Just a pita to get xiaomi devices on it, I had to jump through quite a few hoops to get the robot vacuum cleaner on it, and there is no way for me to get my mi home hub on it
After reading a few places there was one piece of information sticking out… A specific Xiaomi camera on a specific firmware-version. That’s why I asked. From the articles I found, it looks the bug(?) is limited to that one specific camera, even if Google took down all Xiaomi-integration.
I also guessed something wrong with Xiaomi’s servers, but ..
Guessing they focus on the wrong things ..
True. Hopefully soon we won’t have to do that anymore with that new smart things alliance. But for the moment, there’s that “ecosystem” argument to keep in mind.
Also, I must say regarding Xiaomi in particular, their pricing is amazing as opposed to other manufacturers. Take Yeelight vs Phillips Hue for example.
Other than that, yeah, I’d love to be able to have items from multiple manufacturers all working together.
I’ve got two homes running HA with lots of xiaomi gear…
For the robot vacuum, look at valetudo.
For the hub, you don’t need it, look at zigbee2mqtt
Same here. I spent way too long trying to relink Mi Home before reverting to the Yeelight service. Didn’t even have to resync any lights. Only had to re-assign them to the proper rooms and we’re back in business.
I have bulbs that aren’t yeelight but Philips x Xiaomi. I’ve added them to Smart Things and synced that with Google Home.
It’s worse, they trust them.
I am not saying it is impossible, I am just saying it is not straight forward, you need a bit of hacking and fiddling, but then again, if you going HA then you should not be a technophobe.
Xiaoai has been having connectivity issues all day today sans the google thing
Functionality has been restored for yeelights and desk lamps. Just used google home and my Google nest mini to turn on and off my lights. Cannot play my mi 360 camera feed through the TV though so seems cameras are still off the Google home integration at this point.
Nice! Seems like Xiaomi has been working with Google to resolve the issue.
There has been a [CNN article](https://edition.cnn.com/2020/01/03/tech/xiaomi-camera-intl-hnk/index.html) about the whole thing.
Here is the part that contains statements from Xiaomi:
> “Upon investigation, we have found out the issue was caused by a cache update on December 26, 2019, which was designed to improve camera streaming quality,” it said.
It said the incident the user experienced happened during the integration between Mi Home Security Camera Basic 1080p — the model the Dutch user owns — and the Google Home Hub “with a display screen under poor network conditions.” It has suspended the integration service until the root cause is solved.
Yup for sure, but if you are a bit technical then it’s certainly the way to go
