Sad.
Came here to say this.
I don’t think thats a good move for western audiences
I’m personally think it should be the other way around, especially considering how much money they spent on that newly designed Mi logo. 😕
As mi 9t pro owner, I don’t care.
as a european who’s work with gsm service and accessories. Finnaly some importers will sell you Mi note 10 back cover instead of redmi note 10. With the name change it would be easier to notice.
Plus the Mi branding has gotten so much renown only to drop all of that for a longer name, Mi was unique and iconic, and this might be offensive but Mi just sounds more premium than Xiaomi because of the shorter letter count
As a Poco F1 owner, I care
In that case iPhone doesn’t sound too premium.
does this mean that Mi branded devices that exist already will no longer get updates ?
i own many Mi devices.
Nope. It’s just a branding being changed to all of their products.
I think they wanted more branding recognition of its full brand name globally. Also it makes sense as instead of “Xiaomi Mi MIX 4”, it’s now simply “Xiaomi MIX 4”.
Won’t be like that except that they want suicide
Does this mean that they are dropping the MI logo as well? It would make sense if they are making this move. I wonder what they would put instead of that logo. Probably just the brand name shall me in some sans serif font…
\>The word “Xiaomi” itself translates to English as “millet”, a small-grain crop, while “Xiao” translates to “small.” Lei Jun thus tied the company’s name to the concept that a grain of rice for a Buddhist is as great as a mountain, meaning the company focused on the smaller things before moving its way up.
Weirdly an unpopular opinion it seems but I think its a great thing and also a move that makes a lot of sense. moving forward for Xiaomi. Also kinda sad that people never really cared for what the Xiaomi actually means or what Mi means. Xiaomi has finally reached the number 1 spot for smartphones and from now onwards kinda needs a brand new identity for the US market. To be honest, there is where the money is and a market Xiaomi trying and should definitely have a crack at.
Look Mi already doesn’t really anything for people who don’t speak Chinese and for those who speak Chinese, just sounds weird for an electronics company. The reason Apple was named Apple was because Jobs thought Apple was already a word that is unintimidating to people and wanted to make computers unintimidating to people. And apple stays true to its name by producing one of the most user friendly albeit expensive products on the market. And remember Xiaomi is a Chinese product. Names mean a lot to Chinese people and the larger Asian culture as a whole.
For the Chinese market, I think Huawei is still more preferred among people for phones for laptops but Xiaomi brands itself with “Innovation for all” kind of tagline. A Xiaomi store in China isnt just a showroom with some phones and a couple of TVs, it is literally everything from electronics toothbrush, sneakers, backpacks and the latest laptops. Going back to the buddhist thingy, it makes sense for Xiaomi to be called Xiaomi. They are trying to create a brand image and thats what the name is for.
I think it is also the right step in creating a unified identity in both China and the global market. Like it is said in the article, in China products are called Xiaomi phones not Mi. Nobody says Mi. In fact, Redmi phones are called Hongmi (Hong means red). So going forward, i think they might be trying to unfuck the naming they have done for their phones too.
For the most confusing thing, just look at the recent Poco F3 which seems to be a hit. The Poco F3 is released as the redmi k40 in the Chinese market. For a casual person who liked the k20 and had it imported, they wouldn’t know that the Poco F3 is literally a much newer generation of the k20. The redmi k40 gaming is also in the Indian market as Poco F3 GT. Seems simple enough but if you look at the previous 2 generations, the k20? Yah that was released as the Mi 9T globally. Its just really a mess to be honest.
Then instead of mi 11 we will get: Xiaomi 12?…
yeah that makes sense actually lol
Why? I always got confused why some products had a Mi branding and some just a Xiaomi branding. I thought Mi was some kind of product line. But then it was just on too many different products…
No reason to do this, straight up sad.
I hope they at least maintain the Mi Logo.
In my opinion, Xiaomi will be completely fucked, Mi sounds good and is already well know, but Xiaomi will make those stupid people think “oh Xiaomi sounds chinese it’s plastic and shitty”
Not to mention that Xiaomi 12 will be a weird name for a phone instead of Mi 12 which has a much more premium feel to it.
I thought that Xiaomi already had the brand recognition, atleast in the shops I go to it says Xiaomi mi 11 or Xiaomi Redmi 9 for example. I just think this was an unnecessary move tbh and there are things which are more important to address.
Sounds so bad, imagine Apple 13 or Samsung 22, the S on Samsung makes a whole lot of difference.
Well I guess we will see in September 15th (which is actually yom kipur so I will have to wait I guess)
Do you really say **Xiaomi Mi** Mix 4 though ? I never say Microsoft Xbox or Apple Macintosh usually saying the latter is fine enough.
Mi is better
Always though Xiaomi Mi Mix was a bit of a mouthful.. anyway, what’s it now gonna be, Wi ?
Maybe the CCP prefers Wi.
If they really want to be known by everyone they should just name the phone 12, at that point Xiaomi would be a laughing stock but nothing surprises me tbh
What about the iPhone that came before Apple’s?
I never meant to call like that so I’d prefer to call it just “Mi 11” but some tech reviewers or some websites like GSMArena calls it that way like “Xiaomi Mi 11” or “Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold” except for the new MIX 4 of course.
why did i get 14 downvotes for asking my question ?
it was a simple and legit question, did it threaten the trolls in some way ?
thank you for your answer.
it seems my question upset 13 trolls.
may i ask how you like your Poco X3 NFC ?
i have been thinking about getting one for myself.
my last poco phone is the Poco F2 Pro 256GB
sadly it was stolen and before i got it back it got cracked glass front and back. it sill works technically but cracked glass gives me bloody fingers.
is the Poco X3 NFC a good substitute for my broken Poco ?
I think it’s good anyway but better get a POCO X3 Pro as it’s newer than mine and it has a better processor.
thanks for the feedback !
🙂
This is what ticks me off, our phone being sold as both “Mi 9T Pro” and “Redmi K20 Pro” is infinitely more confusing than XiaoMi vs just Mi.
