iPhone 6S to Mi8.
I saw a few people posting about possibly getting the 8 as an upgrade from the 6S and I’d totally recommend it. Great screen, top camera, amazing price tag.
Really happy with my purchase. And even after a few tweaks of MIUI I’m not missing iOS one bit.
What tweaks did you made ?
Yeah I jumped from IPhone 6+ to MI8 myself , couldn’t have been more happier. Great phone for its price , can’t compare iOS to Android both are very different in their own way but using IPhone for so many years and then coming to Android was pleasantly surprised on how fast things get handled on this phone .
Wow, the iPhone X isn’t that much bigger than a 6S despite the screen difference.
Good one
How much did you pay for it? 😯
Oh so you jumped from the iPhone 6S to iPhone X?
Explorer edi?
r/technicallycorrect
Me and my GF both use iPhones. We’re using family sharing and I use the photo tagging a lot (faces). How does the Xiaomi phone do this? Those are basically the things keeping me on iOS (and the better camera in general).
Try out Google photos. It has facial recognition like so:
https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6128838?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid
It exists for the iPhone too so try it out now and if it works for you you can expect similar/better functionality on any android you end up choosing. It does seem restricted to some countries for some reason though.
Everyone who cares about photos and images I know who uses an iPhone is already using Google photos. Mostly because of the free space on the cloud thing but I’ve seen people saying it is actually better at editing photos and whatnot. It’s search features are top notch (it’s Google after all). However, I don’t personally use an iPhone so I can’t tell if gphotos retains all the same functionality as android.
It’s worth a try, nothing is lost (quite the opposite) and there isn’t any risk in it.
I’m don’t think Xiaomi do this (Correct me if i’m wrong) but Google Photos has a face recognition feature.
>I can’t tell if gphotos retains all the same functionality as android
It does. Sometimes even gets features before Android like the new video editor. Google Photos is not just an alternative but a superior solution in this situation.
Gallery app has sort by people function. I don’t know if it’s what op is looking for though.
Took the leap with both of you to the Mix 2s a month or so ago… Bye apple… I have seen the light!
How do you find communicating with iphone users? I hear sms txts go missing sometimes. I stopped using imessage even with other iphone users since it was even more buggy.
Nah that’s definitely a leap forward 😛
How does bigger mean a phone is better ?
I don’t understand why is this comment getting downvoted.
The Mi 8 IS an iPhone X clone. With a top of the line SoC and a great camera, features. No doubt. But u/DonneyZ is correct.
I love Xiaomi devices but I have used iPhones and they are fantastic devices. The smoothness is second to none, and I have used most flagship (Pixel 2) or flagship grade devices (OnePlus 5t).
Android sure does have it’s perks, with the whole ability to customize and the flashing of custom ROMs once official updates stop.
But as something which ‘just works’ out of the box, and has EXCELLENT 5-6 years of support from Apple, iPhones are tough to beat. Fuck customizations. Give me stability, and long-term support.
P.S: I am still going to keep my Mi Max 2, maybe even pick up a second Mi Mix 2 as my only Android device, once I switch over to the Apple ecosystem end of this month. Mi devices were what got me started with modern day smartphones and I LOVE MIUI, which borrows heavily from iOS.
Good choice…welcome
When i have money, gonna upgrade from Mi Note to either mi8/mix2s.
What about that notch though? Been on Android since 2010. And went to Miui shortly after, never looked back!
I see what you did there! :p
Excellent! Fuck the downvoters!
>notch
That’s not an upgrade
Does Mi 8 have a global ROM already?
I might buy it(from aliexpress), but I’m clumsy, so I wanna avoid having to mess with its ROM if possible.
I can see some advantages to iPhone, but I find them quite overpriced and I have a major beef with a number of Apple’s policies which I consider very anti-consumer. So I don’t think I’m gonna get an Apple device anytime soon.
‘Overpriced’ is one way of looking at it.
But then again, most Android flagships cost the same and have a far shorter support period.
Not saying you should get an iPhone. You do what you do.
Just an opinion, and I respect yours 🙂
haha, amen brother.
Well there’s no global ROM yet so I had to get the play services on the phone which was a bit fiddly. Debloated the phone and got rid of Xiaomi’s annoying useless apps. Got rid of the Chinese keyboard that was baked on there and made a nice little custom SwiftKey theme.
Yeah and I saved £700. How do?
About £300, bought it on Taobao (Chinese Amazon/Ebay).
I was seriously considering the Mix 2S for the wireless charging but eventually saw the AMOLED on the 8 and made the decision right there. The screen on this thing is nice. And I’ll get over the notch…
I mean, I can’t say I like it. But the screen size is still a massive upgrade from my old phone. I mean I can video/photo edit on this thing now without squinting like hell.
Bought it in China! On Taobao.com
Sadly not, just the 6GB version with 128GB Storage.
Well I’m a bit of a special case, I essentially only use WeChat because I live in China and that’s what everyone uses (even the iPhone users).
I just mean I had to do some debloating and stuff. Getting Google Play Store on the thing was a little harder than I had expected.
What can I say? I’m seeing it as an upgrade.
It doesn’t I’m afraid. I live in China so using Chinese ROM right now.
Nooooo……
Nowadays bigger phones are considered as trashy.
Thats why I decided to pick up the Mix 2s, no notch. Only the notification LED is at the bottom. One step forward, three steps backwards.
Holy sh!t…Mine is lost on the way 🙂
You are definitely not a typical iPhone user. That said, congrats for taking the leap. I’m waiting for LineageOS 15.1 for the Mi8 – I think it’s the best way to experience Xiaomi. In the meantime, perhaps take a look at [Xiaomi.eu](https://Xiaomi.eu) ROMs if the stock ROM gives you trouble.
Edit: unless you live in China, then you kinda want the chinese services
Taobao or the phone? It’s an 8.
I’m not, no. I jump between android and iOS as it suits me usually, just like a change of scenery. But iPhones are just crazy money these days, I honestly don’t think I can ever see myself spending more money on my phone than my laptop/desktop.
How did you debloat it?
Who said anything about bigger being better?
Also come from iPhone to xiaomi. Only miss GarageBand :/
Oh I’m sorry for the misunderstanding but I actually bought it in China. I’m British (hence the pounds) living in China right now.
You did well.
Exactly what I’m doing. Just waiting till the next iPhone X has no notch (fingers crossed) then 2019 will be the year of pure bezzle less
How is the GPS on the Mi 8? Is it accurate?
Idk man, outside of Samsungs and maybe Huawei P20 Pro, none of the flagship Android phones cost the same ridiculous price as iPhone X.
You’re right. Sadly none of the flagship Android devices with the exception of the Pixels have decent software support.
This is why am switching over.
Not defending the X. It’s way overpriced.
I might even pick up the 8 Plus over the X as I have heard BAD things about Apple’s implementation of it’s first gen. Face ID.
