636 is way better than 625, but in the future we might see the 710 from the m8 se being used no?
It’s interesting to think about how the industry could develop if Samsung and Huawei offered their SOCS on the open market instead of keeping them to themselves. Now we only have Qualcomm and Mediatek, and I for one sure know I would never buy a Mediatek phone.
Even if it has less Mhz per core?
Are they still doing Surge CPUs? They only used it once.
eh. I just need US LTE bands.
Mi max 3 is rumored to have the sd710
Are there any as well optimized CPUs except the 636? Most devices on GSMArena’s battery test list rely exactly on those SoCs.

Meh
Well if it would be a MTK, they definitly better stay on old SD…. 🙄😁
I’ve had 3 Mediatek phones, never again. Primitive.
eh, the p60 and the a/p22 combined with treble look solid, i’d give them a chanche
Mediatek has a good price. They deserve a second chance. And competition is always good. But I always buy Snapdragon, so….
The new P60 and P22 are great. Should give them a chance.
Mhz per core means nothing in real world use. Ex: Intel vs AMD.
_MeHz_
Ive never used AMD so I dont really know about their processors. But I still think Mhz per core matters. Im not saying that 625 is better than 636. I was just wondering how is it that 636 can be faster with less overall Mhz.
it doesnt matter unless u know the specific architectures of each core.
dont say that here. this sub has lots of indians that dont want to see us getting the p60. they raged so damn hard when i commented about it being on par with a 660 rofl.
How many fucking phones does Xiaomi have released with sd625?
Major downside with MTK is that you don’t know if sources for it will ever be released. I’ve used a couple of MTK phones. All of them were good phones. Had to retire them after a year not because performance wasn’t on par with SD, but mainly because there were little to no updates and the custom ROM path was not an option. Not to mention the pain it is to root them or unbrick the device if something goes wrong. Same with Huawei and Samsung chips. That’s why, I have to stick with SD. Even if the performance isn’t as good, I’m ready to pay the premium if I know I can install a half decent, or a much newer version of Android after a year.
99% of users will NEVER care for unlocking bootloaders. the new mtk chips are ahead of sd’s midrange chips, barring the sd710
The “again”!
I read they bought a LOT of the CPUs and we’re needing to get rid of/use them all… But that could have just been conjecture.
MediaTek has improved in recent years but they still also have a long way to go. Their advantage is that they provide dirt cheap processors in mass quantities. Something Huawei and Samsung can’t seem to provide more of.
The 636 and 625 are popular with Xiaomi because they’re cheap, low cost, and widely available. The 710 is still limited in quantity.
$$$. Same reason why USB Micro is still often used. USB C has licensing costs. Same reason why Thunderbolt for USB C and hubs are rare (most are just pass-through) because licensing $$$.
MTK had a new policy, started 3 years ago to release sources on their newer chips. So in the last two years it should have been a lot better since it was a major industry complaint.
Cortex A73 vs A53. Higher MHz but smaller core.
It’s like a lower revving V8 vs a sports bike. You don’t count a cars speed based on what RPM it can do unless you are talking about the same engine.
Indeed, but more competition is always a good thing, in particular for us the customers, and the 710/636 will not show up in budget devices for a while. I look forward to the redmi 6a in particular, the jump in power and power consuption from the 425 to the a22 should be worth it
I see, thank you for the explanation!
They are a good furnace alternative for the winter day. Cheep heating system.
Too bad they tend to overheat.
You can survive the winter with one or two MTK phones.
lol what no they dont.
Source on the p60 and p22 overheating?
I meant MTK in general.
thats the past. whats the point of being stuck to the past?
Well they should have thought about that. First impression and bad reputation tends to stick. I got burned(not literally) once buying a MTK phone, and never again. The same way I would never ever buy and AMD processor for my PC after the crappy experience back in 2003-2006 with them.
damn those 2013 memes are so old now, OP is a boomer
Knowing qualcomm they wont discount it else it will cannibalize the lower chips.
They will launch the 647 and 720 (placeholder numbers) and discontinue the 636 and 710
Source? it could have the 636 just like the 2 had the 625 of the note 4
I seen non-samsung phones with exynos chips
There was a rumor of the 6x launching with the S2 but then it got the 660 of the minote3
Yeah probably, thats why we dont have midrange phones with 810/820 etc
